Hey everyone Just got home from work and checking to see whos onboard. Got the day off tomorrow so I'm going to Biloxi MS and the BEAU RIVAGE CASINO. 25th anniversary so I guess I'll watch the wife put some of my train funds in the slots. Maybe I'll win enough to complete this project. That would have to be a heck of a big win with the price of things in this hobby. I just can't believe how much I've spent already and I'm not even close to where I want to be with this layout. I guess I'll have to be patient and just concede the fact that this is going to be a long project. But I'm loving every minute so far.

Steve,

When it came to layout I cheated a bit, I joined a club that had a pretty nice existing one. Approve [^]

Chief....have everyone who comes to your party on Saturday bring a bag of lime for your pond.  Then have a prize for the one who can do the best job spreading it in the water.

RT......congratulations on the job!  Two down, one to go.  Prayers for that loan approval for the house.  Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]

Steve....don't win too much money or you'll rethink the whole approach to your layout and wind up starting over.

Jim....re the upcomong homily, speak from the heart of things you know that the congregation can relate to.  And start with a joke.  Are jokes allowed?

Laz.....kids get candy when they go to the Doctor.  You are an adult, at least chronologically speaking.  Does that mean you get a new loco?

Fife....your daughter has talent, but some of us suspect she doesn't get it from you.  Don't forget to bring the camera, and recharge the batteries.  They sure do grow up fast.

Kurt....hope the little ones are feeling better soon.  Mighty nice of the better half to score the tickets anyway.  Nice thought.

Doug....don't get lost in the mountains.  Who gets your trains if you get eaten by some critter?

Early morning all!

Been real busy again this week.

Big projects at the work place and lots of work wrapping up the two robotics programs I mentor/teach. The HS band is also ramping down and we are dealing with all the folks who owe money so they can graduate or get their grades.

Daughter is upset - her beloved HS choir teacher is losing his job and she is really upset. Rats - if he had only made it one more year. Now she will likely drop choir next year - her senoir year.

RT - good luck on the house.

Doug - are you lost?

Dennis - get to feeling better. From your posts the last few weeks is sounds like you have really been hitting it hard. Hope you get some rest.

Buckeye & Mitch - all this bridge talk - you guys been going to the dentist?

Chief is becoming a limey? John B or Nick if you are out there - what is your view?

LAZ - good thing you guys are keeping an eye on yourselves - glad you got that taken care of.

Sat the 10th is National RR Day - our club will be supporting the Grapevine Vintage RR with a small display on Sat and we are also managing a spike driving contest - hope the visitors bring their steel toed boots! I am impressed they managed to schedule this on Mother's Day Weekend! Just what my wife was looking forward to!Thumbs Up [tup]

http://www.nationaltrainday.com/

BTW - how's that Mothers Day planning going on out there?

Here we have the Doug check list:

Dinner reservations Sun evening - check!

Surprise present - check!

Cards - in process

Flowers - planned and checked!

Have a great one guys...

Regards, Roy

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a rainy 55 degrees. Going up to 65 today with light rain. We need some sunshine. Chance of sun this afternoon.

Today is a busy day. I have some chores to do around the house. Can't do any mowing. Too wet. Maybe later, I will run trains for awhile.  I need to get the ground ready for the garden.  Looking forward to some homegrown tomatoes.

Dining car is here and ready for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Friday.  TGIF

Morning!

RT:  Great News!  Switching prayers for you to find a house!

Doug:  You need to spend some time at the golf course to see the coyote's.

Just about finished wiring the control panel...I'm short 4-LED's, and a few connectors...Now to get the foam roadbed in, and start wiring the layout!

Spent a bit of time cleaning, and re-attaching some wires on the 2033 dummy unit, as a break from the wiring.  I'll re-wire it when I have some additional time, the origional wires are getting a bit brittle.

Laz....TGIF, it was slow getting here this week.  I sure wish I was joining you tonight for burgers, dogs and beer after fishing for some trout.

RT....Good luck with house.  Flush all the toilets to see if the plumbing works before buying.

Good morning all,

It is another cloudy cool day in SE Indiana with temps in the low 60s.  RT, congrats on the job and make sure to check the crawl space/basement for water after a hard rain.  Also, do not buy the house with the appliances in it unless they have the receipts showing when they were purchased (two lessons learned the hard way when we bought our place).  Did laps at the YMCA using the indoor track last night.  Taped "Lost".  Worked on graduation announcements.  Did some eBaying and some Second Life.  Got stuff done for wife's birthday (today) and for Mother's Day.  Busy all the time it seems.  This weekend will be really busy. Lucas has a band/choir show tonight.  Tomorrow is Pole Day at the track (watching it on TV).  Sunday is Mother's Day and one daughter is getting her master's in social work at IUPUI.  It only gets more busy thru the end of May.

I had a little extra on the dining car this morning for breakfast.  I hope everyone (especially Darren Manning driving for A J Foyt) has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning.  Storms came through this AM [around 5] but nothing like other places.  Good rain.  Suppose to clear out real soon.

RT, will you please get a house so I can send this box in my way. Wink [;)] just joking

Mike, your wife with B'day and Mother's Day so close gets big gifts.  Tough on the bank account.

Got County meeting for lunch [free meal Big Smile [:D]].

Jack, great idea about the lime.  A few are bums and would not show or just come with out.  I could write a book on some of that crowd.

Better get going so I can have breakfast.  Two cups of coffee and Outdoor Channel got me behind.  Later

Mornin' Fellas.

Boxed up a couple items I'm taking to the LHS today. One of the repair guys is buying one of my spare transformers that I will never use, and I'm looking to trade an engine for another engine (I know), the one I'm trying to unload is a PS2 and the one I'm looking to acquire is TMCC, mine was more expensive than the one he has for sale so hopefully it will be a wash. Confused [%-)]

Have to do some major reading for class this week... 3 chapters in one book, 1 chapter in the other book... reading about computers is about as much fun as reading about...... can't come up with anything as boring so we'll just leave it at that! Big Smile [:D] Paid my bills for the first half of the month... why do we bother working? After the bills there isn't much left over! Guess I need to hit the accountant up for a loan... that'll go over like a NYC Mobster with concrete boots being tossed over the Brooklyn Bridge!

Speaking of Mobsters... anyone heard from Rich? Did he make it to Joisie?

RT - Great Luck on the House! We'll be praying for you.

Good morning all.  Hope the sunrise found you all healthy and hungry.  Last night I disappeared from the family room to an alternate home site. Couldn't take one more minute of wife's TV choices, none of which included either the Red Sox-Tigers game or the Celtics-Cavs game 2 playoff.  Watching sports on a 15 year old non-hd 20 inch analog screen has its drawbacks.

Chief....stories of the bums that show up one's BBQs.  For me that would require two separate threads, one for family and another for friends and acquaintances.  We all know those certain somebodies that never cease to amaze.

Laz.....I gave up golf long ago when the cost of lost golf balls became the most significant expense in the hobby.

Kurt....so you too have some postwar AlCos.  Now I don't feel so alone. Seems like few people chat about them on the Forum.  I've got the earlier 2023 UPs as well as the 2031 RI.  The wires seem to be the only thing I've had to work on....they just keep on running without issue.

MikeC...sounds like multiple congratulations are in order for your graduates.  Now if our older kids would get rich, we could retire to the estate they bought us, complete with a toy train annex.

RT....been following your house hunting travails and can't recall if you said something about a possible train room in the house you WILL get the loan on.  There's no quit in you, and good things keep happening because you are making them happen.  Prayers continue for you until the Almighty caves in, if only to get rid of me.

ANJDEVIL.....Rich, hope your conspicuous absence doesn't mean your NJ past caught up with you and you made an unscheduled visit to the Rahway State Maximum Security Facility.

Mothers' Day Idea.....after decades, I'm tired of the same old Mothers' Day routine.  This year, the family is all meeting for brunch in Saugus MA., just 3 miles from Charles Ro Trains in Malden MA.  What do you think the odds are the wife would enjoy a side trip and a surprise, her very own train?  I didn't think so.

Have a good day everyone.

RT, congratulations on the job! Will continue prayers for house, etc. Do yourself a favor...go ahead and get the handicap plates.  If you feel fine, no problem, park where you want.  But, if you start feeling winded or have any issues, at least you have the option.  I have seen too many folks with no problems, they just have a parent who has the plates and they use them to get a good spot.

Chief, may want to get an extra bag for the outhouse with all them folks coming over.  need to keep the odor down.

Steve, you have hardly touched the surface of train spending.  Regardless of what you already have, you can always get more.  I have limited my purchases by having narrow curves so I can't run a O72 Hudson or other scale items.  May not look as authentic, but I need to draw the line somewhere.

Well, saw a helicopter heading in to land on the roof earlier.  Think I will skip out of here before the day gets rough.  I am not on call, so I will defer to those who are.  I have my MIL to go home to, so I will need to put my "nice" hat on and entertain for the weekend.  Hope everyone has a blessed weekend and will check in soon.

Good afternoon,

Warming up again, car thermometer read 91 about an hour ago when I went to some errands.

Police think they may have a suspect very soon in custody pertaining to the Boca Town Center murders, this guy needs to locked away for life for what he did(three dead and one attempted murder) already!!

Not much going on, even the barber shop has slowed down due to the economy!

Trying to make a little money here and there, got a job processing payments for a furniture company via internet and Fedex delivery. I get 10% of the money I get in before expenses, got my first payment yesterday. Also going to deliver flowers tomorrow for Mother's Day with a flower shop, temp job but it is money!

Also want to see if I can get my old job back with Wackenhut security, new boss in area office.

Good afternoon all,

RT - Congradulations on the job, now that that is in place everything else will follow suit.  Your inspiration for all.

Wife is having her Bunco party tonight, so got the train room all cleaned up and ready for all the OOHS and AWES.  (Of course when they go in the other room its probably more like, How can you put up with that?)  Also installed a light kit in a AC4400 dummy unit.  Boy, the instructions regarding the pick-up rollers sure leave a lot to be desired.  Got it done though.

Tonight going to go play pool with the kid, another life lesson in order.  (Think he got me a new pool cue for Fathers Day, so will probably get to use it tonight.)

Hope everyone has a great day, and tremendous weekend.

No matter how old you are, Dad can still whoop you with a pool cue? Whistling [:-^]

Or geometry IS very important to learn and understand, also the force and english you exert on the cue ball can have varying degrees of effect on the target ball?

Or ... nevermind it isn't appropriate for this forum.

So that was my day. Reg. gas is pushing $3.90, one place near the airport was $4.09 and drivers were leaving without buying. I would not want to be  in a summer tourist business this year. Well guys, I still got banilla and cookies ifin your over this way,,,TTFN,,,S.J.

TGIF...and it is raining, too!  I hope to fire up the John Deere tomorrow.  I wonder what it is costing me to mow my lawn this summer.  How much do goats cost?

I think NBC's  Al Roker is duing a report from Washington Union Station tomorrow for National Train Day.  I think I will run my Amtrak set tomorrow in honor of the day or get the old NYC passenger coaches out of storage.  In fact, for SFF - passenger trains would be a good topic this Sunday.  I have passenger cars that I don't think even visitors to the layout have ever seen.

Good night.

Hey guys - banilla sounds good!  Well, daughter is at a sleep over and I have to work tomorrow.  I think I'll pick up one of those electronic picture frame thingies for the wife for M-Day.  You can load like 100 pics into the memory and the picture changes can be set up kinda like a screen saver.  That was a million dollar idea right there, LOL.  Hope she likes it!

Ate at a new restaurant, Bellocino's in Arnold, MO.  Pretty good and there is a local no smoking code too.  I had a stromboli "grinder" -- I figure that is LAZ talk for a sub sandwich?  It was really good but I couldn't finish the last couple of bites Shock [:O] - I think it was 18 inches long and just loaded with sausage and peppers.  Would have been better with an ice cold beverage (maybe a Sam Adams or Michelob?) but I thought I was driving so I stuck with diet Pepsi.

I thought about stopping at Electric Trains Outlet tomorrow, but if I don't get to work until 7 AM, I would only have an hour to get there across the city and probably wouldn't be worth the trip.  I wish they were open later!  Neat store, though.

I'll be back later, so TTYL

There nice but are concidered a big waste of energy.

Meetings. Banged Head [banghead]  Phone calls. Banged Head [banghead]  Finally in the house.  Did not feed the fish nor deer.  Too late.  Did feed the birds.  Going to watch some videos of NS trains.  First time I have used the DVD since we got the big screen HD TV.  Man what big picture and good sound.  BTW: did run trains last night from about 11:30 to 2 AM.  Switched from long double stacks/piggy back train to very long coal train.  Fun.

Brutus, I haven't heard much lately but our ISP had a warning/info post several weeks back about some of the photo frames coming out of the factories with some really nasty viruses. Apparently the factory where they assembled and tested them, the test PC got infected during breaktime net surfing. Black Eye [B)]

Wow - okay, maybe I will look for something else then, don't want to get a virus on the computer just to have some pictures....  Is the virus burned into an eprom or something, how is it able to stay in place on these things?  I would think that they just use a big "hunk" of memory and turning it off or wiping the memory would fix it?  But, if its in the ROM or something, then it won't go away....  I'll do a search and see what I can find out -- thanks for that headsup.

EDIT: This is scary!  Check out this article guys/gals:

http://www.news.com/8301-10789_3-9843574-57.html/

RT - if you got the loan, then I think you are good to go, right?  What are you worried about, the terms of the loan?  Can you get a VA secured loan, or did you already use that up?  I'm not sure, but I think that's a one -time deal?  You can look it up on the VA website....

Chief, glad you like your big screen -- I want one too, but waiting until we rearrange the furniture and get some new stuff for the kids rooms....

Brutus you are far more knowlageble then me as far as technology but an instructor once told the class about an incident where the virus was living on the "wire" as they coined the phrase which ment that when they took the infected work stations off the net and cleaned them up they got reinfected as it turns out it was a virus that was in the buffer/memory of a bridge or router sounded possible to me but computers and networking are not my strong suite I am more of a electronics person with some computer experience picked up along the way as needed.
