EVENING ALL

A great day today, lower 70s,spent a lot of it outdoors, mowed the lawn, it really looks nice untill the dry summer gets here. Some rain once a week would be just right. Cost too much to water, though some do. My wife gave me some kind of meat and I turned it into a burnt offering on the grill, gee what a nice day. Tasted good too. No trains today, but I know where they are. Got to watch a tv show I like, comes on after the dancing,oh for the old days of variety shows.  Later all,,,,,S.J.

EDIT Chuck I have a Williams catalog(the new one) is there something I can look up for you?

Mel - good joke Laugh [(-D]  Cannibal jokes are so funny to me, I could just eat them up Wink [;)]

Jason, so sorry to hear about your problems.  You might want to have someone look at your furnace.  My buddy is a HVAC guy and told me once that the transformers don't just go out, usually it's because there is some extra load on them - maybe a board is going bad?  Good luck, man!

Welcome to the other other coffee pot, Marcie!  Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

Fife - I guess that guy showed you, didn't he....

Don, sounds like a good day to me!

Dennis - I don't know how you do it; but, I guess a man can learn to deal with the lack of sleep.  It takes me a long time to recover from a couple days without some sleep at least.

Jim (SP) - more power to you, but like I said, that split shift just wore me down.  Plus, they would never give us 2 days off in a row during the week, it was always split up and the days off would change too.  It was just too much for me.  I'm much happier with my current job and I can set my hours to start as early as 6 AM or as late as 9.

Laz, crappies are my favorite fishing.  I love losing my hooks in those trees and then only catching one or two fish Laugh [(-D]  No seriously, I'm a real Crappy Fisherman Wink [;)]  But, a few beers makes up for a few fish, I always say!  Most of the fun is the company and time to just hang out and enjoy some quiet time.

Roy, that story about the WSJ article is funny - that's just what they did here in St. Louis.  They had a small article about toy trains, Lionel to be exact, and showed a 2 rail train, I guess HO, that was not a Lionel!

Watching Der Tunnel -- what a great movie!  I highly recommend this one.  It really makes you think and remember how hard the cold war was on so many people.  It's amazing how quickly these things fall from memory and this is the way it was for almost 2/3rds of my life!

Banilla time soon?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I just smiled.

Net savings = $72.

Hmmm... so they have motion detectors on those ladders? That's how you get 'assistance' at Home Depot? At Lowe's they have buttons that you push that causes a nice lady to announce that you are in need of assistance, so everyone in the store can walk by an gawk at you - all the while the associates are ignoring the announcement while talking in the next aisle over about what they did at Billy's party last weekend and how much beer they are going to drink at Mary's on Friday... No I'm not at all bitter about wasting 45 minutes trying to locate something at both stores only to find out they moved what I was looking for... Banged Head [banghead]

Evenin' All.

That's a crock on the Williams/Bachmann catalog. Real good customer service ?

Need a favor of you guys who frequnt some of your LHS's. During your travels if you come across a "Minnie & Mickey" handcar, 6-18476, would you drop me an e-mail with the shops name and phone number. I keep getting skunked on the Bay of E, and my LHS has had no luck with his distributers.

Morning to All,

Been catching up on posts I missed over the weekend. NASCAR race was great but wish Jr had won.  Felt bad for Denny Hamlin until he pulled that bonehead move and brought out the caution that set up the fiasco that collected Jr. and made Kyle Busch the most hated man in NASCAR-dom.

Spent last evening running the chipper shredder, grinding up a lilac bush that we lost in an ice storm last winter. Noisy dirty work.

Yesterday was supposed to be substantial completion at the School... No way they are substantially complete. Still waiting on some paving, exterior sod and seeding, tile floors in cafeteria and gym, along with movable partitions in Gym and 7 classrooms, also countertops, sinks, faucets, cabinet, lockers need to be finally finished. You get the idea, there's no way they are done.  Maybe by this Friday, but I wouldn't bet on that. Final inspections are a week from Thursday, I sure hope they are done by then.  I am ready to move in.

Take care,

Mitch

Morning.  Up early.  Wife was late getting up and then with all her lights on getting ready, I was wide awake.  Got to go to Town Hall for a photo shoot.  Town Manager [Coast Guard Reserve] applied for me and I got a Patriot Award for my supporting his reserve duties.  News reporter did not have her camera last night.  Told her to make it early as I was getting into tee shirt and jeans and working outside and might go fishing.  Came home from Town Board meeting and ate fresh strawberry shortcake.  Watched movie and you guessed it.  Woke up at 12:30.  Went straight to bed.

Rich, talked to Charles Siegel yesterday.  Sure enough, Choochoo and his whole operation is moving to FL.

Buckeye, you do NOT bar-be-que steaks.  Bar-be-que is for pork or beef [I hope not] with bar-be-que sauce.  You GRILL steaks.  Yanks do not know correct terminology.Disapprove [V]

Chuck, Betty Banks said she was too busy drving you around to get to NC.  I was too busy riding around with Hillary yesterday. Whistling [:-^]

Read pages of posts that was made after I posted yesterday and forgot some things I was going to reply too.  Oh well.  Breakfast cooking time [GRITS].  Have a great day and God bless.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 50 degrees. Going up to 74 today with sunshine most of the day.

Today is a busy day. I have to change the drive belt on the mower. Just finished mowing, yesterday, and it broke. Just what I needed. Lots of time to fix it. Tools will not get dusty.

Dining car is here, early, and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Morning all. It turned out to be a good day after all yesterday. Kids had a ball fishing, as fast as they droped the hook there was a fish on it. Called the wife and told her pick up a small bag of charcoal, some dogs, fruit salad, potato salad and marshmallows on the way home from work. We had a nice little dinner in the park, kids played on the swings and slide. Even went for a 3 mile walk in the woods. Home in time for a shower and bedtime stories at 8:30. Found a great place to walk in the woods. Two 3 mile trails. From the parking lot they share a trail for about 3/4 of a mile then one goes right and the other left and they loop back around to the start. So you could even do about about a 4.5 mile hike too. Best part its ony about 3 miles from my house. Lived here 10 years didnt know that were there always thought it was a small picknick area buy the river with a few picknick tables and that was it. Only saw one other couple there the whole time. I might even start running again. I ran crosscountry in high school. The reason I quit, I didnt like running on pavement.

On the job front- Thank you for all the positive comment and prayers! When the kids were in bed the wife friend called she wantes hardwood floors on the whole first floor of the house. Said she will buy material and pay cash for labor. At ten after nine my dads friend I guess mine too called she wants the ceiling replaced in her restaurant/bar she ownes. I had been dooing finish carpentry on the side before I was laid off. I receive lots of positive comments and refearls, turned down a lot of work. Looks like its paying off now. Should hold me over till I get back to work with a full time job.

Brutus- the furnace is a Lenox Pulse so it vibrates when running. The soder joint that holds the coil wire to the stake on tab came loose. maybe a cold soder joint I think. It wasnt too shiny.

Talk later time to get the kids up. My 4 year old has preschool at 9:00.

Mornin' Fellas.

Back from my morning meeting, trouble tickets updated... time for a nap.

Jason - sorry I didn't post yesterday, sorry to hear about the job. Been there a few years back, not good times, but sounds like you're going to be busy. Could be the start of a personal business? Will keep the prayers going for you.

Rich - had forgotten your wife lost her job... but sounds like things may be picking up? Thumbs Up [tup] Keep the fingers crossed for ya and the prayers a pumpin'.

RT - any more word?

Greg - How about from you?

With all the job loss I've been holding back on some good news here. Susie-Q's department passed their audits for ISO, Canadian Certification, and their EU Mark. They got 8 minor non-conformance notes, which is really nothing, so now she has to create a non-conformance plan and submit that to the auditing agent. Once that is done (tomorrow I think she said) it will be two months and the company can start marketing internationally. Well she's been underpaid for her position since she started and was going to go in yesterday to talk with her boss about a raise. Well Friday before she left for the day (her department was giving a 1/2 day on Friday as thanks), her boss calls her in to her office and tells her she is going to be getting a bonus AND a raise. She's been thinking of looking for a new job because of the commute, but now it will make it more difficult to do so because of the raise... told her she needs to be thankful because her company just showed her they value her and want her to stick around. Also, they have been growing and have reached maximum density at their current location, so they are looking for new office space. She's been ensured they will be moving closer to the DC Beltway or further out 270. This will reduce her commute, so that helps even more!

Morning!

Rich:  Hope things work out on the Bride's job prospect!

Jason:  Great news on the home improvement work!

Brutus:  Thanks for the kind comments.

I've found that I only get real help at our Home Depot in the plumbing dept.  He really knows his stuff, and is looking to help.  Otherwise it's a ghost town.

Morning all. Beautiful day today. Long evening tonight with class. Glad you're hanging in there, Jason. Love the jokes. Great talking to Don on Sun. Getting ready for my trip to Carefree, Arizona tomorrow. I never travel for work so it is always eye-opening to see how Marty and the Chief do it. Wink [;)]  Great news about Susie-Q, Brent. Fife, that's why I go to our local Ace - unlike the former one in Roseyville, the one in our town is like an old fashioned hardware store - has everything and they take the time to help.

Morning all from beautiful Southern Ohio

Sunny and 58°F right now.  Going to finish tilling the garden.  Found out yesterday my brother is going to have his prostrate removed in 3 weeks.  Please keep him in your prayers.  This on top of his MS is acting up.  All us over 50 need to keep an eye on those PSA numbers!

Jason- That stinks they way they handled your layoff.  Do you have union representation or layoff agreement?  I pray for gainful employment for you.  Having a skill like carpentry is always an asset.  It seems there are always a lot of small jobs for folks who have the skills and are reliable.

Dennis-I agree with the extended recovery time from not getting enough sleep taking longer as you get older.  If I would go like I did even 15 years ago it would kill me.  I try and plan for "brainless" activities the day coming off nights.

Brent-Have you ever noticed the stocking pattern for the nut and bolts at Lowes?  For the life of me I do not see a pattern.  I asked a vendor who was stocking the shelf once what the pattern was and he said well, all the nuts and bolts are in the same aisle.

Steve-One of the unfortunate aspects of having my train room in a spare bedroom is no train running when anyone is trying to sleep.

Rich- Prayers for wife's opportunity

Don't forget Mother's Day is coming up!  May God bless

Jim

Good Morning - Thought I was loosing my mind, I knew I put a post up about the Rail Fest, but couldn't find it.  You guys have really been busy this morning.  I should have spent time on the computer last night instead of playing with the trains.

I was having a great time, FINALLY after almost a year figured out how to get the ditch lights to work on my AC4400!  There are (is) two switches, and apparently I've never had them BOTH in the correct position at the same time.  Funny though, on the Menu set up there are options for the lights to be in "OFF, Auto, On, & FLS" positions.  Then in the soft keys the option is "Off, Auto" only.  So finally I can get them to work in the On, but not FLS, or Flashing.  Saves me the problem of downloading a new sound set for it.  (Havn't been able to do that anyway due to the RS232 issue.  Have cable adapter which works on sys upgrades, but not sound files.)  Then with all that was playing with the Cab Fwd, and marveling how since I loaded DCS 4.01, how ALL the TMCC features work correctly.  So then wanted to see if there were ANY that I was not getting.

Fired up the Legacy, and the battery on the CAB2 was low.  (Leave the charge turned off, unless it NEEDS charging.)  So when I was returning the engine to the shed, the CAB2 apparently died, and I couldn't stop the engine, backed the tender right off the track!  Got power shut down but it was too late.  The tender shorted across the rails.  Shut the system down and noticed that none of the TMCC or Legacy would work at all.  Put the CAB2 on for overnight charge, and this AM CAB2 cant find the base.  (Sitting on top of it.)  So will need to reset the base I'm sure.  Unfortunately the manual doesn't discuss this.  Found some instruction on the other Forum, so will do that.

On a more positive note:

Jason - I really admire your attitude!!  You won't be long looking for a position a positive attitude always will show through, and often is the deciding factor.

Chuck - Make sure the lawn mower is off, before you start working on it.  Has Buckeye returned the shoes to you yet?  Don't want you to loose any toes, working on it bare footed.

Doug - Glad your going to AZ at this time it will be really good weather.  Probably a little cool even, they typical get our left overs 24 hours later.  And, its been cool here the past couple of days.  Just remember if you are out walking around, don't put your hand or foot anywhere you can't see, and becareful of those "sticks", laying around.

More acolodes for the Chief, he's going to have to get a bigger house for all the rewards and certificates!

Mitch - Good luck with the inspection, you sure have done a great job with all this.  I didn't realize so much fell on the principal !

Don't want to take up too much space, so best for everyone, have a great day and good health.

Don

We are VERY fortunate to have a local hardware store with folks who will save the day for you in oh so many ways. Yes, they might be a little higher but they are two minutes away, no stoplights and are always happy to see you. We have all the big box stores 15 minutes away and I avoid them like grits, I love living in the country with a small town (4000) two minutes away, it's the best.

Lots of train time starting tomorrow, the Princess will be here for 4 nights and she is my buddy. When the boss went up to her house this weekend in Cedar Falls (I was busy in another part of the state) she asked her Saturday morning if she wanted to go out shopping "yes Gramma, Choo Choo store" -- just turned two, smart young lady :)

Jim- yes we do have a union agreement. And yes Iam glad my woodworking skill are good.

Steve -glad to hear that the last thing you would want was the old "2 hands on the shoulder" exam.

anjdevil-hope all things are good with the wifes job prospect.

Brent- I dont know if I want the hassel of my own business. But hay you never know.

Doug- a positive attitude can solve many things. As my grandfather said live for today everything will always work out in the future. He seemed to have lived a good life.

Looks like another bright sunny day. I think I will take the kids for a bike ride and then cook out on the grill. Later all.
