Great news, Jon. Back from sledding with the youngest. We were the only ones on the hill. First year he was old enough to go down by himself - and more importantly get back to the top - 'course he let the sled go twice.  Cleared the driveway. Off to see the trains at the library.

Fife, you're right! I could have bought a lot of trains for what I wasted on that awful habit.  It's funny how times and attitudes change.  When I started smoking years ago it seemed like everyone smoked.  All our heros in the movies, all our roll models and even the doctors.  They even had commercials with doctors saying which brand they preferred.  It was almost not American to be a non smoker.  Of course now we have the benifit of medical knowledge and education.  I'm happy to join the ranks of non smokers now.  Just wish I had done it 30 years ago.  Not much going on here today except news in the paper, I hope for the last time about OJ.   Grandson and I had fun running trains last night in spite of a few crashes.  Nothing serious though.  Just rear enders when one train overtook another.  Grandson is crazy about the microphone feature with DCS handheld.  Like to talk on it a lot.  I see where Laz is out stalking Bambi again.  The pheasant soup sounds good but the whole bird would probably taste better.  Just guessing.  I don't think I ever had any pheasant, under glass or anywhere else for that matter.  Have a good week end y'all,

Just a quick stop by.  Went to town today as they had the Christmas parade.  Rather nice affair with lots of local clubs, etc represented.  The kids love all the candy that is passed out, the parents like to have the kids entertained for a little while.  The 40/8 club was there....didn't even know that we had a local for them.

John Baker, Statins may not be for you, but you should speak with the doctor as there are other alternatives.  Not sure what is available under the British System, but you should be able to take something that does not negatively affect you.

Currently baking some white chocolate and caramel cheesecakes.  One is for the party tonight and the other is for the media/ video team at church.  Wife has already tried to break into the goodies.

Got to watch the "I Love Toy Trains" video that we taped on DVR the other night.  This particular episode was on Christmas and Trains....they just go together.  Makes me want to set another tree up with a train.

Well, I hope that the gang here has a great weekend.
God Bless,
Dennis

Back from the library. Sure is nice to see the trains that club ran - nice modular oval with three loops. Lotsa Depart. 56 and little plastic figures - Mickey, circus clowns... that sort of thing. Nothing scale. They were running a long Amtrak train double headed by 2 F40s, a shortie Big Boy, with a long Christmas car freight and another colored docksider with aquarium and other holiday cars. They were handing out all sorts of neat little booklets and paper engineer hats put out by our friends at Kalmbach. Lotsa kids and grownups came through.... they were pretty friendly.

Good morning from north east Iowa where the boss and I are taking care of the princess all day until bedtime, it's a WONDERFUL job Smile  I've already read 3 books this morning to her and now it's just about time to head to Caboose Stop Hobby store Thumbs Up  I'd really like to help out the economy today, if that Standard Gauge is still there I just might............... Whistling

I was stood up again by DirecTV yesterday, 2nd day in a row, talk about frustrating.  Sharyl had taken the afternoon off yesterday so we could leave early and get up here but I was told they would appear at our home between 12:00 PM -- 4:00 PM so I waited and she left, at least gas is cheap.  I finally left at 5:15 PM and spent most of the two hour drive on my cell phone trying to find out what the heck is going on.  Got cut off twice after waiting 15 minutes Angry  Almost everyone was apologetic but problem solving seemed less important.  Here are the states I talked with on my drive:  California--dispatch call center, TN- DirecTV, Georgia-DirecTV, CA-again and finally OHIO another dispatch call center.  The DirecTV folks are trying to help but it's the 3rd party vendors that are the problem, probably over stretched and under paid--crummy work conditions at this time of year.  I'm determined to stay at this but if nothing is resolved by Tuesday I'm going to go with my own independent installer, very frustrating.

Even though the afternoon was frustrating I got an email just before I left with the results of the kids I have been working with since Sept., TREMENDOUS results so I felt a lot better, I need to worry less about things I have no control over.

 Off to the Train Store!!!!!!!

Jon heres what you do You call them one last time and tell them you think you have been patient enough over this. (If you have paid anything) tell them you want a full refund and your going to go with Dish network as You have lost work time because of them. And personal vacation time . ask if they would like to refund in a check not credit for x number of hours at $35.00 an hour for your lost time because of there so called subcontractors as its not really rocket science to install a system I've installed at least a half a dozen of them. bet you get some action then .

Evening all.  Back from a long day at the lake.  We cleaned out a ditch with lots of multiflora rose.  Then we burned a very large pile of limbs, dead trees, clippings and etc.  We all had fun while we worked.  Met new and wonderful guys.  Turned cloudy and COLD.  Flurries are forecast for the lake area.  I actually timed my trip going up today.  It takes less than an hour.

I use to smoke but only a little.  Quit years ago.  Bad habit.  I do think that the government should start a very active program [like they have done with tobacco] to do away with vehicles and alcohol.  Both individually kill more people than tobacco.  Then we can work on sugar [especially sugar beets] as it causes more health problems and shortens lives too [obesity and diabetes].  No, next will be guns.  I hope the NRA rules.  Watch out for your electric trains. Shock  They cause grown men to act like kids. Laugh

Cough Cough Cough.  Now for the strong meds as not driving but at home.  Later.

Great day with the princess, sure is FUN to be around the little ones---very refreshing.  Trouble is they turn into teenagers.

Chief, I don't think the government will start a program to do away with alcohol like they did with tobacco because the same bleeding hearts that were death on smoking are probably the biggest boozers.  Jack up the prices on booze like they did on cigarettes and you will here the screams all the way to the moon.

Good Evening All

We got our first real snow today although there has been snow all around us already. It's 29 degrees with about three inches of snow. It appears to be finished.

Charlie, I did read  your thread about you having a cold and I hope you are feeling better. Maybe you caught the cold bare hunting and not deer hunting. Come on over anytime AFTER you get well. Well I ran a few trains, watched tv and tossed in a short nap. That was my day. I hope everyone has a nice Sunday..S.J.

Good evening all,

It was SNOHIOZONING in SE Indiana today (thanks to all who made that possible....not).  Of course it was snowing hardest when I was wrestling the train equipment up to the museum.  The HO display is completely set up, but the standard gauge needs some work.  I have three hours tomorrow to work on it.  Watched "Bolt" last night at the theater and watched "8 Mile" tonight at home.  Notre Dame plays for national women's soccer title in the Chief's neck of the woods (Cary N.C.)  Maybe they could help the men's football team after they are done!  I had bacon and toast for breakfast on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from beautiful Ohio, where we have 2" on snow and it is cold. Cool

I'm still fighting the head cold.  Sad

Here is a nice oldie but goodie Ohio Snow video:

Chuck....If we banned grits, it would solve all of America's problems.

I thought that the Polar Express post about the pricing was interesting.   Retailers like Macy's need to learn that impulse buying is not going to work except for a small percentage, due to the internet's ability to inform people.   We just purchased a coffee maker at Kohl's with coupons and found it to be only about $5 more than Amazon's price.  Kohl's gets it, Macy's doesn't.  My 2 cents

Jon.....I believe the real problem is that the satellite providers do not know where Iowa is located.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

Speaking of the Chief,  I wonder if Rich could by pass sending a certain car to the Chief?

Good Morning from Snowy Southern Ohio

We had our first real sticking snow yesterday.  Very slick out.  Our youngest daughter came up from Cincinnati to celebrate youngest grandaughters birthday at our house yesterday.  It was a lot of fun.  This is my second weekend as Deacon and this week I am preaching.  I was nervous.  We had Mass Saturdaynight and there will be two Masses today, then off to Lancaster to help with a Mass there.   Whoo whoo.

Chief - Take care, sounds like you are getting the crud going around.

Got to run

May God bless

Buckeye--

Jon.....I believe the real problem is that the satellite providers do not know where Iowa is located.

You might be right, they probably think we grow potatoes instead of corn and soybeans!!!  They have one more opportunity, tomorrow morning, to get it right.  I'm not holding my breath.  I'm sure in the end it will all work out, MY problem is I want it done right now or yesterday!!  Even though I'm mostly retired my patience meter still tends to run on low, not all of the time but once in a while.  I think if we lived in St. Thomas my life would be 1000% better, right........ and the Cubs will win the World Series too.

I did not pull the trigger on the MTH Christmas Tin Plate yesterday, so tempting and they even shot me a great deal---it's still more money than I want to spend.  However, I'll be back here in Cedar Falls in 10 days to take care of the princess while her parents are gone for three nights.  I guess I want a better deal, they've had it for well over a year.  It retails for $595, they had it priced at $550 and they offered it to me for $525 out the door.

Back to Adel this afternoon, lots to do, we are behind.  But I would never pass the opportunity to be with our Granddaughter for the weekend and help out her parents.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cold and sunny 25 degrees. That's as high as it is going today. About 3 inches of snow on the ground. Good day to stay inside.

Today is a relaxing day. I may run trains later. Knee is feeling pretty good today. Not much else new here.

Dining car was here for breakfast and left for Points West.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Parade over.  70 some entries and thousands of people to wave at.  Now all the kids are lined up to sit on Santa's knee.  They are in the park across the street.  Come home frozen as temps dropped while the wind picked up.  Trying to warm up.  Later.

Just fired up the snow-blower and cleaned the driveway and sidewalks.   I would rather blow snow that mow grass.  The cold makes you feel alive and of course we know that Ohio Snow keeps certain undesirables in Roseyville.   I can't believe His Honor  complained about the cold today with a high temperature of 40 degrees and it never went below freezing.  Oh well, not everyone can be tough!!!  Laugh

Speaking of trains,  I took one of my Garden Trains to work and set it up around the tree yesterday.  It is filled with candy, so it should be a big hit.

Hockey game on TV tonight!!!  BTW, the Bungals lost to the Colts today 35-3 and then the Bungal players get on the radio and act like they played their hearts out.  Idiots!!!  I have never seen more ineptness in a pro sports team.   Needless to say I don't own any apparel with Bungals or Clowns logos.

HI GYZ,

What a weekend we had WOO HOO.  COLD and windy didn't get above 20 on Saturday.  Spent all day walking, about 5 miles, tryng to push deer to UNCLE, BRO and BIL.  Pushed alot of deer and UNCLE had a 4 pointer in front of him, but because of antler restrictions, they have to be 3 points on one side to be legal, couldn't shoot, NO JOKE.  I saw 2 tails, BRO, saw a big bunch and so did BIL, but too thick to shoot.  MOM made us a pot of PHEASANT SOUP and the OL MILs tasted great so did the heat, slept great.  Took MOM to church then went to LONG JOHN SILVERS for lunch, she likes their food, so do we.  Then went to Wal mart and I picked up 2 American Graffiti  cars.  Little expensive at $6.79 each.  Got the T bird and 55 Chrysler.

STUR FISH, long day.  Remember keep your homily under 5 minutes and people will love you.

BUCKEYE, ROCK and RYE for that head cold.  Works for me.

  STAY FROSTY.

Please describe the above high lighted word.  Does it require pushing?  BTW: I love to mow grass.  All I do when mowing grass is ride around on a John Deere mower in short sleeves with a can of Coke Zero in my hand.  Is the snow blowing anything like that?  Strange, all those Ohizoians moving to Roseyville say something about being glad they do not have to do any snow blowing.  Sounds like some drug thing.  Are you sniffing cocaine up your nose?  Maybe blowing it somewhere. ????  OH, I get it.  You sniff this drug up your nose and then blow it back out. Jim, glad you made it through your first homilies.  I'm sure you will be less nervous as time goes on.  You Deacons deserve a lot of credit for taking up the slack when the pastor is overloaded.  In our own parish, we are lucky enough to have two deacons at the moment.  Don't know how long that will last especially since some parishes only have one priest and one deacon.  Our own deacons conduct services for funerals and other duties as well as participating in the masses.  Thanks for your encouragement the other day on the occasion of my one year anniversary for quitting smoking.  The Lord answered my prayers.  With his help, I will never go back to it.  Be carefull what you pray for though.  I asked for freedom from this habit but I had to be knocked on my butt before I saw the light.  It was'nt my way but his way and it took what it took I guess.  Otherwise, I would probably still be at it.  Good luck and God bless,

Ray
