I've visited some HO club open houses over the years in the northwest suburbs -Not the Lionel clubs which are relatively far away. I've been the big DuPage fairgrounds meets too. I was able to see the O gauge layout at the Museum before it was taken down and the incredible HO layout that replaced it.

Hi Don and good morning all,  We are getting the Santa Ana winds over here on the East side of L.A. also (Glendora below the foothills)  Pool is a mess and yard is full of neighborhood pine needles.  No fires around here yet, thankfully and I hope they catch any crazies before they start anymore.  Not many of these fires start by accident.  I'm celebrating my 72 birthday today.  I think that old joke is true.  The one that says "If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself".  Now-a-days, I'm a non smoker, non drinker, non woman chaser but at least I still have trains, and good friends. Happy Birthday, Ray!! Happy B-Day [bday]

Too bad GM just announced they're accelerating the closure of their Janesville WI SUV plant - there goes most of what little freight still moved on my favorite rail route (through my town) -  I think only ballast trains are left...

Hey Guys, good to check in and see everyone doing well.  Was a quiet day today as no cases. .The area around here, most folks like to take the kids out of town or just spend time with the family when the schools are closed.  We only do emergencies.  Did have another candidate for the position come today for the interview.  Going to meet out for dinner tonight with the group.  I think we are going with option #1, but want to make sure all goes well before telling #2.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I may get another addition to my roster yet!

On a sad note, my neighbor sold the railroad to Genesee and Wyoming.  They will be moving back to Chicago.  Guess we will have to visit them there.  They have been great neighbors and friends.  We are happy for them as they did get a great deal, and in this economy, that is hard to come by.

Hope the guys in York have lots of fun and with all the buying up there, we should see the economic crisis be fixed!

God BLess,

Dennis

Doug - now they want to buy Chrysler, is that right?

Had a nice talk with an old buddy who retired to SC this morning and then with Kurt Polak, mostly about trains and house projects.

Finished trimming and mowing the yard, then cut out some more bushes and made a nice big pile.  Uh, now what Dunce [D)]  Gotta figure out how to get rid of this waste.  Oh well, I'm sure someone will take it for a few bucks.  Wish we could burn here.

Happy Birthday Ray!

Thur/Fri at the train store while the guys go to York. They come back for saturday work though.  Sat PM birthday party. I think I just tired myself out. Afternoon All.

A big Happy B-Day [bday] for Ray, and many more!

Spent the day at the museum cleaning the layout, my knees are killing me after crawling around on top of all that track. Foam padding and carpet tiles work for a short time only. Sad [:(] No major destruction although I did manage to knock down a few parking meters, Freudian perhaps. Big Smile [:D] Just a couple of small areas against the back walls so we should be able to complete them this friday and the next, maybe. Dead [xx(]

Don & Ray, be careful up your way. The hi-winds haven't really kicked-in down this way yet, they're saying by 6pm hang onto your hats. However with 6% relative humidity it won't take much of a spark to cause a heck of a fire. Just anounced a small hot one by Oceanside & Camp Pendleton, evacs ordered.

Jack, I wasn't surprised by the Charger win, the Pats just ain't the same w/o Brady, but I was shocked by the ease of the win after watching the Bolts earlier games. What's the old saying "Go Figure". Think we should all send Roy an e-mail message, "How bout them Cowboys?"

This crazy weather is driving me bonkers, started out last week running the dickens out of the AC, saturday nite had to fire up the furnace when temps got to 41*, brrrrDon't you just love the aroma you get the first time the furnace is turned on after about seven+ months inactivity.

Hey Doug - that is EXACTLY what we are saying down here!

Leaving for York early tomorrow morning. Spoke to Buckeye and John F to coordinate activities. Looking forward to meeting Wes and Buckeye face to face finally!

Also had a chat with Don B to say hello and catch up a bit.

Happy B-Day Ray & CSX! Happy B-Day [bday]

My B-Day will be celebrated at York. Even better...

Got pretty warm here today. John F said it was 80 in the York area and weather should be nice - maybe a chance for a little rain Wed/Thurs?

Have a great week folks. Talk to you when I get back next week.

Regards, Roy

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Sunday was a disastrous day.  Packed everything BUT our suticase for the trip to Bloomington.  Basically tried to do too much in one day.  Visited wife's sister and her family, went to Lucas' scholarship reception (was supposed to last two hours with speaker halfway thru it) and by the time I got in from parking the car, the speech was half done, visited the daughter and her family in Bloomington and dropped a chair off at her place and dropped Lucas back at the dorm.  Wife and I were so mad at each other at forgetting the overnight stuff, we just drove home.  Turned out there was a silver lining as we drove past a mattress place on the way home Sunday night, went back over there Monday and wife bought a new mattress, which she has been wanting.  I did get to spend some time with "my" soccer girls and wrote them each an encouraging note for the game tomorrow.  They should win.  I hope they win.  Tomorrow will be an intense day for one soccer fan in SE Indiana.  If you hear a loud shout of joy or scream of anguish from thereabouts, you'll know what happened.

Big news of the day:  Pine Cones!  After 20 years, there are pine cones on some evergreens my dad, my daughter and I planted when they were just twigs.  Now some are 30 feet tall and we have Pine Cones.  I had a mixed fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone (especially "my" soccer girls have a good day).

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Happy B-Day [bday] CSX.  At least you did not start any major fires like Ray's cake did.  Shock [:O] Happy B-Day [bday] Ray.

Grass mowed and weedeating done.  Weedeating done at pond [hope the last time this year].  Wife has bale of straw, scarecrow and two ghosts standing on it.  A couple of pumpkins on the bale too.  Corn and stalks staked out next to bale and colored gourds on the ground.  All spotlighted.  Now I can rest in peace [since I had to do all the work and she pointed]. Bow [bow]  Got to pack for trip to RT'ville.  Just laughed through Two and a Half Men

Dennis, watched RFD-TV several times at Lake House and have not seen any trains yet [except on their "commercial" strip].

Chat later.

Happy B-Day [bday] CSX & Ray

Busy day at work, countdown to Biketoberfest is on and - guess what - bike is acting up again.  The harley dealer reset the timing and replaced the accelerator pump on the carb.  Had a short sit down with the senior service advisor, us old guys gotta stick together.  I'll drop it off tomorrow and se what happens.  Intermittant no start (cranks), like no spark but will crank and start when it feels like it.  Also looks like our trip to Orlando is cancelled, as I was just informed that there is school on Monday, and when I booked this, there was none.  Gotta love those *#$%@#$ school boards...$300 in the toiletBanged Head [banghead].

Devils tanked against the Rangers and looks like the Giants are nose diving on MNF againt the.....BROWNS?

Will start decorating the house for Halloween, then 1 month later,Christmas

OK, time for bed, early day tomorrow and more work on tap.

See ya on the morrow...

Fire Update....

Things are burning good tonight!  All the "outskirts" around LA are on fire, as of now over 10,000 acres burned, about 60 building, and 2 deaths.  The winds are suppose to get worse during the night.  Most of the areas threatened are in new developments and construction areas located in pretty rugged terrain, mostly surrounded by sage and brush.

I don't mean to make light of the subject, but.....

- First and primary fire allegedly started by a homeless person, through a lit cigarette under a freeway overpass.

- I'm sure a number of these areas have a lot of the "sub-prime" loan documents behind them.  (Now watch we will need to have another multi-billion rescue for insurance companies.

It is also unfortunate, and I'm sure there are probably a number of retired or near retired folk in that area, that saw their financial security go up in smoke in the last couple of weeks, and now seeing their home and vehicles go up in smoke.  Hope thing turn better!!!

Happy B-Day [bday]To Ray, Roy, and CSX.  Congratulations and may you all get something for the rails.

Doug, you may want to go to the local Home Depot and get a pair of good knee pads like the carpet installers use.

Chief, The OGR series and I Love Toy Trains is usually on Wed. morning.  The trains and locomotives program is on a few times.  I think, Saturday morning and Tues.?  Anyway, if you get to the channel under the Guide, you just scan over.  The other thing you can do with the remote:  Go to menue, then find "Search for programs" and type in "Train" and search...you will get a number of dog training and body training programs, but will also find some others.  Then, you go back and type in Railroad, and again, search and find the programs.  You set to record the series.

Well, kids are in the process of waking up.  Bride is making pancakes for them, but I can't have any since I have a fasting lab test this morning.  (I think she is torturing me for the Harley or Train rouse).

God bless,

Dennis

Good morning all,

It is warm and cloudy in SE Indiana.  It should be warm and dry for the game tonight but I am prepared for every contingency except losing.   I hope all goes well.  I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning and it is heading to "Points East".  I hope everyone (especially, especially "my" soccer girls) has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin'!

Cool this AM up to 85 today low humidity.  Rode the Harley in this AM, going to the dealer and see what is going on with it.  Hope it's a cheap fix.  Harley and cheap....not in the same sentence!!!

Already issues at work, so I'll check in again in a few.  Bright side is that we have softball this evening, so I can work out all the frustrations....and we lost to the BROWNS??? Geez, what a night!!

Later!

Morning!

Anjdevil:  Sorry you're having so many problems with the ride.  We have a lemon law here in Michigan...3-repairs for the same thing and you give it back.

Chief:  Still pulling for you on the election...They'll never expect you as a write in!  I can't wait to see the Powers running trains and solving world problems.

Raining....so no painting today.  I'm loathing the T-111 siding...especially since the recesses are every 4-inches.  Once I get it cut-in rolling the color is very fast.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!  Nice talking to you Brutus!

Just moved up to chief size print. A warm 66 early this morning but going down some during the day. Possible shower or two. I'm not sure about today as I was expecting train company tomorrow nite but he cancelled till fri. I want to set up some TMCC engines for him to run. My wife just came in she had a new flex pipe put on her Prizm, now I can't hear her coming in the garage so I better not get caught with  company..Enjoy your day..S.J.

Fall in Southern California !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ityQR2s5Pbo

The winds have started here, had a fire around Campo at 3am, fortunately they were able to knock it down before it got to big. People are still out of their homes and being horse country the animals are kind of freekin' out.

Sometimes my windchimes on the patio are more like a noisey windsock than a windchime.

Dennis......Don't fold your hand with the wife quite yet re the next train purchase.

Borrow a Harley and pull into your driveway with it, making lots of noise (not hard to do).  Wait until the noise arouses her curiosity or the children call her attention to Daddy sitting in the driveway on a motorcycle.  Don't bust out laughing when she emerges but tell her you're just looking, that the "guy" also has a "her's" back at his place for a reasonable price and low miles.  Then perform a pregnant pause, avoiding eye contact while you walk around and intently look over the bike. If she still doesn't start bargaining, RUN!!!!!! Laugh [(-D]

Have a blast at York for all those going!  Don't forget that 2245 Texas Special AA F3 or the 773 Hudson with the 2426 tender for my Christmas present.  C7+ will suffice.  No box, no problem. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

MikeC.....good luck with the soccer girls and their game.  Win, lose, or draw, the ride has been worth it. Thumbs Up [tup]

DougDG.....prayers for those threatened by the fires.  What a helpless feeling.  In CA., is a fire loss covered by homeowners insurance or a rider?  Special policy?

RT and Chief.....sounds like they are up to some monkey business.  Wonder if they have a dependable bail bondsman. Evil [}:)]
