Evenin Boys & Girls.

As of today "Hell Week" is finally over. The better half was hosting her Bunco Group last night so the honey-do list was quite extensive. All of them got done but the roughest was yesterday, started cooking at 4am and finished up just in time to have everything on the counter & ready to eat at 6pm. I swear, when I redo this kitchen #1 on the list is a double oven. Grumpy [|(]

RT- Hang in there guy.

Roger- I'm gonna echo some of the other comments, Pictures Please.

Buckeye- Look on the brite side when it comes to the chocolate. Just think what a mess it would be if I came and had to bring California Avacado guacomole. Clown [:o)]

Supposed to be flank steak, man!  Sirloin is too dry.  Dinner [dinner]

70 degrees after the big storm last night.  No tornados, but sirens were scary for kids.  Jack, we have decided to postpone Disney another year so that we can "do it right" and not break the bank.  We're finishing the basement and other stuff and do need to pay off some bills.  Kurt, did you ever post any pics of the GG1?

I'm running late due to mowing the lawn after work tonight, so I'll just say good night and the Tardis will be along shortly, so turn on beacons.  Sir James, I have some Pee-Can pie my wife bought me, so I'll share a little piece to make up for all that peach pie!  Wink [;)]

Woops - sorry, Roger - prayers for your back.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool 49 degrees. Foggy. Sun is trying to break thru. Going up to 75 today with sunshine. Looks like a nice day.

Today is the day that I drive up to Cambridge to do the weekly shopping. Gas prices have stayed about $3.49. Food prices have continued to go up. But, coffee dropped 2 dollars a can.  Hmmm.....

No time for trains today. This weekend will be train time.

Dining car has arrived and it's breakfast time. Later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Sounds good. I can be in York around 7. I think it best to not include SusieQ as she is usually asleep by 8 - 8:30. I'm not familiar with any of the eateries in York other than Isaac's so if someone else can make a recommendation that would be helpful. Or... if you want to do earlier, we could meet half way and do dinner in the Timmonium area (near where Fife lives). But we'll leave that up to the ones driving the furthest.

Fife - Looks like Saturday is a go! Thumbs Up [tup] Works better for me because I can save the vacation day and I'm not really looking for anything specific so I won't be pressed to make it through all the halls. I could meet you in Timmonium and we can all ride together if that works?

Morning all!

York sounds like it's shaping up to be great fun!

Rock:  I expect to do some work on these old girls.  And you're right...I do find the work relaxing.  This one just had me stumped.  Something new every day.  With each project I am always amazed at the engineering that went into these.  Very simple solutions, and built solid.

RT:  Laugh [(-D]

Brutus:  No photos posted yet...the GG-1 is in about a dozen pieces, including the e-unit in pieces.  Made a parts list yesterday.  Need to call today and order the parts.  Looks like the lamp holders are supposed to be part of the sheet metal assembly, and not available seperate, so I'm leaning toward building LEDs.  Starting over with the wiring.  What would you like to see?

Time out with the kids today!

Good morning all,

It is clear and cool in SE Indiana with temps near 70 today.  "My" soccer girls got pounded again 3-0.  There are times I wish my job was closer and I got off work earlier so I could coach the team.  We are 0-5-1 and we should have won at least three games by now with the talent we have.  I go to the practices and help where I can.  I know the coaches work hard and the girls work hard, but the results are just not there.  I ran the 318E last night for a half hour with NO pileups.  I picked up sticks in the yard and the wife and I went for a walk.  I did a little Second Life.  Work was great yesterday and I got an e-mail from my Norwegian soccer friend, which is always a bright spot to my day.  I switched back to the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast this morning.  I did not have to drive today so I got some extra shuteye on the way to work.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

While in the dining car this morning I was watching "Good Morning America" and see that they will be starting a series that will be broadcast from Amtrak.  I think it's title is "50 States in 50 Days", didn't know Amtrak did all 50, especially Alaska and Hawaii.  From what I gather it has to do with the political campaign, or is it camPAIN.

Roger....If you live in Buckeyeland it is camPAIN.   A DVR is a must for every citizen of Ohio so we don't need to watch every 15 second campaign ad.

Good Morning America will have a difficult time riding AMTRAK through South Dakota and of course Amtrak misses Columbus, the largest city in the Western Hemisphere without rail service.

88 - We may meet at Tom's (Timonium) before heading Nawth.  Not sure how he wants to go yet, since he will be toting choo-choos.  I personally want to be there when the halls open at 9.  Not "needing" anything either, but it's a long way 'til April...  Fall colors should be nice along the Susguehanna by that time.  May the sun shine. Morning all. Sunny and cool again this morning - fall has fallen here in Illinois where we aren't seeing any political ads either - guess they think the state will vote for one of its own... Gas jumped to $4.09 yesterday. I could see them changing the signs from 3.99 as I drove down our main strip. Guess it is 'fear of Ike'.  Ran trains last night for the longest time in months. It felt great - restored the soul.

Good morning,

A little overcast, still feeling some far reaching effects of hurricane Ike. According to the weather channel no other storms out in the Atlantic ocean or in the tropics right now.

Cut the grass while it was windy yesterday, did not have to get as sweaty as usual.

Got Historic Rails catalog the other day and may order some stuff from there. Also signed up for Dearfield Beach FL train show in October, no membership fees.

Waiting to see what holiday pay actually is in paycheck this friday.

Good Mornin', ya'll,

Nearly got wacked in my car twice yesterday.  In the first incident, during rush hour crawl, a guy going the opposite way rear ended stopped traffic, and both vehicles wound up in my lane....margin of error, 3 feet.  In the second, while I was coasting to a red light at 1 AM with scant traffic, a guy elected to borrow my lane versus slamming into the one and only car stopped for the light.....margin of error 3 feet.  Sometimes I wish I was a state trooper or a police officer so I could dish out some justice to brain dead folks driving 3,500 pound weapons oblivious to the lives of others. SoapBox [soapbox]

Re the guacamole discussion, those comparing avocados and guacamole to grits suffer from what we have here in MA.....a dearth of decent Mexican restaurants.

RT......does that link you provided yesterday suggest I should be drinking more beer or less?

Chief....how are the doggies getting along?

Read DougM ($4.09 IL) and Chuck's ($3.49 OH) comments about the gas prices.  Lowest major brand prices here for 87 @ $3.50.  Ever notice how the pricing between the grades of fuel fluctuate so radically?  Price gap here between 87 and 89 runs about $.20 per gallon but only $.10 between 89 and a premium grade?  What's with that?

Brent.....Smile [:)] Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup] on Suzieq's good news.

DougDG....my first (tiny) house had a galley kitchen, but the wall mounted double ovens came in handy constantly.  If I ever remodel my kitchen here, a double oven will be the first thing in.  Second will be countertops made out of granite or similar material.  They may cost 3-4 times as much, but they look new 20 years later or when selling if maintained properly.  Granite is expensive here even though I live within 25 miles of the Granite State (NH). Banged Head [banghead]

Brutus.....good move with the Disney delay.  My (former) budget has been blown out of the water this year due to an "excessive" number of family vacations.  Disney in May.  NH White Mountains last month.  And we are planning on "driving" Chicago for Thanksgiving (5 people and 1,100 miles each way) in SIL's 7 passenger Nissan Quest.

Roger....take care of that back.  You've only got 1.

Chuck.....the coffee price wars have been in full swing here for about a month.  Wonder what that is all about?

Roy.....we Nawtheners have been taught that everything in Texas is bigger.  Does that apply to fire ants?  You should never have buried those contractors in your back yard.  You disrupted the fire ants' turf.

Laz....if you run your 3 miler after school today and don't shower before the ("yuk") open house, you might not be invited back in the future, getting you off the hook permanently.  To be sure, eat a half jar of minced garlic before the event.

Kurt.....your GG-1 repairs and all of the Christmas layout discussion that has started up reminds me of the train repairs I never got to this year.  Got to get moving on some minor engine repairs.

MikeC....it's tough keeping the soccer kids motivated when their W-L-T record doesn't match their potential.  Are they leaving it all on the field, or are they playing not to lose?  I learned that in a bad way in HS (losing), and later in a good way in college (winning) when my team came to realize that potential doesn't get it done.

CSXect....good advice for RT and the rest of us, and your progress shows it can be done!

Buckeye.....if you guys are showering Suzieq with chocolate and roses, where does that leave Brent?  He'll come out of this looking like an unromantic insensitive slug even though he insists he is not. Whistling [:-^]

DougM....re IL gas prices, yesterday I chatted with my FIL just South of you and he also can't figure out why prices are still so high in your neck of the woods.  Il taxes?  With the Mississippi so close to you, one would think transport directly from the refineries in the Gulf would be cheap.

Fife....how do you plan to keep in line all of the Yorkies from the POT during the big train event?

Today's prayers for all of you guys with kids Angel [angel] Banged Head [banghead].

Jack

Jack,

I am not quite sure what it is.  The passes are not sharp, they can't finish a shot, and they don't charge the net on a shot.  The defense is fairly good but one or two lapses are killers when the offense does not generate any scores.  18 to 18 they can play with anybody, but in the "area" is where they get hurt.  Thanks for the comments.

Keep on training,

Afternoon All:

Beautiful late summer day here on the east end, and for that matter even more beautiful since it is AFTER Labor Day. My daily commute of 2 short ferry rides each way is also easier post Labor Day, it's interesting, we still have tons of tourists around, but they are a less annoying, and smarter bunch than what we have during the "peak" of the season. I say smarter, as it seems to throw people through a loop that they have to take a ferry to get to and through Shelter Island. There is no bridge people just deal with it!

That said, I had some train time yesterday, and finally gave my new-to-me Railking Chessie System A-A set some track time.  Nice smooth runner and the battery did not have to be charged (yeah) !  Then I started to feel ambitious and planned to install and wire another new-to-me purchase, a K-Line (marx) double track signal bridge. With that plan in mind, I reached for my trusty Craftsman Power Drill,  took the  battery out of the charger, plugged it into the base, and  yes, NO POWER.  It seems that the charger died on the vine, and the drill can not be plugged in to operate.  I hope that Sears sells  replacement chargers, or this  drill is destined for the landfill.

For now the search is one for a manual drill that I have somewhere.

Gas went from $3.49 to $3.79 overnight in my neck of the woods.  Can you imagine if something actually does happen?

After Fifey posted his "######WMBO" comment, I wasn't surprised by the "Top Heavy" comment.  Maybe Wifey should post a comment on Fifey's ..... um, nevermind.  lol
