Evenin' Fellas.

FINALLY got around to taking 5 minutes to disconnect the Legacy System, get it boxed up, and shipped to Lionel yesterday. When it gets back I hope it doesn't take me 2 months to get it set up again...

Fife - still no word... waiting and more waiting

Mitch - hope the interviews went well. New job's benefits aren't near what the old job's were. Benefits aren't hard to find, finding good benefits is difficult, finding great benefits is like finding a avid in a lady bug swarm.

Roy - how's the house reconstruction coming?

If I don't send in my York packet can I still get in at the door? I don't know if I'll be around that Friday...

Got the tractor back from John Deere yesterday... they dropped it off on my front yard after Susan and I had left for work... good thing we are well off the main road and our neighbors are honest... of course I could have ended up with a new riding mower... needed a newer brain, battery, mower belt, and who knows what else...

Please excuse my absence.  I have been sitting my granddaughter since our return from vacation in the White Mountains of NH and haven't had a chance to read let alone post.

DougM......re the football escapade, it cuts a parent to the bone to see the unfair side of life smack our kids in the face because we can't "fix" it, and our words seem shallow or inadequate at the time.  Along those lines, I got to have a  private chat late one night on vacation (when everyone else had turned in) with my 33 year old daughter.  Seems like those "inadequate" words we speak and the values we live have more of an impact on our children than we think.

The Lucas and Chris challenges come to mind among so many that you guys have shared. I have to smile at some of the stuff I read in the Pot because I get to thinking, "Hey, that's my kid to a "T."

It might take a decade or two before a child says what's been on their minds all those years, but the kids do listen, they do get over the hurt of life's setbacks, and they find great strength in the foundations we set and the unqualified encouragement we provide.

Now if we could just get our kids to avoid our mistakes.....

Good evening everyone,

It's been a beautiful day here again today.  To continue that way until the weekend, when the rain is to start.

Not much happening trainwise, picked up a new MTH, CNJ S-2 switcher that I had preordered way back when.  Haven't taken it out of the box yet, but they ran it at the shop and said it ran fine.

Brent, Looks like the new job is keeping you busy, no time for trains?

Good evening from hot Southern Ohio

On nightshift and eating lunch, leftover taco salad.  Turns out I won't need to come in for another night shift which suits me fine.  I did get some train stuff done before I went to bed this morning.  I removed all the gons and replaced them with 640 Hoppers with simulated coal loads.  I cleaned the wheels and oiled ‘em up.  Ran some and need to adjust the couplers as they want to uncouple.  The links are finikey but once adjusted work great.

Kurt - Glad it was just a minor cut.

Jack - Your words are so true.  One of my most rewarding moments was when our oldest daughter who always had to learn things the hard way said to me, I wish I had listened more and did what you said.

Buckeye - We went on vacation in the UP two years ago to the area you were talking of.  It is beautiful.  Lots of really nice camp grounds.

Anjdevil2 - Wise idea to pick your battles, tough choice give up a Honda 1300 for a HD.

May God bless

Jim

Jim SP - I hope my kids say that to me some day!  Kurt, glad to hear all is well - that was scary!  GG1 sounds great!  Sir James was feeling poorly, so I guess I'll just run the Tardis around the beacons and head home early.  Tried to get a buddy at work into O with a free OGR mag (somehow I bought a 2nd copy of the same issue I bought last month?), but he said he doesn't need another hobby right now anyway.  He had an HO layout with his son a few years ago, so it was worth a try.  Hmmm, maybe he can come over and help me on mine, and then run the trains and then... Would like to think I am the first one up this morning - or is it the last one down???

Brent - the contruction is done and it looks great - so the big $$ paid at least left me being satisfied with the work quality. New marble floors in front entryway, new hardwood floors in den and old dining room (now TV room for the kids), new tile floors in kitch, breakfast , and laundry room. Cabinets in kitch and breakfast room refinished. All the above rooms repainted with new baseboards, crown molding, etc. Lots of sheetrock repair, raised the ceiling to 10 feet in front entry, new light fixtures. Acoustic ceiling in breakfast room scraped off and refloated smooth. New low-E windows in front, new front door and sidelights with cut glass. New eaves and fascia around outside and complete exterior repaint. Could have done all this myself for a fraction of the cost as everything I made the past months (plus some) went to pay the contractor. So I am not ahead in any form - but at least someone else did the work! Of course after all this the furniture had to go - so all new furniture in den and new TV room.

Mike C - you will be pleased to hear my son and his best friend (9th graders) made the HS JV soccer team. The boys were considered outsiders since they did not play select soccer and thus may not have been up to par with the current team members. Made the team first try.

anjdevil - no word on my aunt - I am a bit worried.

Chief, Buckeye, Chuck, Fifer, & Mitch - there is no such thing as a GRITS crisis unless you live in Ohizo.

Regards, Roy

Roy - I guess I am the next one up.  You were probably first up and last one down.   Hope you will make York.  You now what they say about a new house... new house, new trains.  Gotta get somethingto show off.

Interviews went OK.  More tonight, then have to interview for Cafeteria postion.  The crazy contract language allowing transfers among schools at any time really is tearing me up.  We now have two, 2 hour a day positions to fill.  (No bennies for them until they get more than 4 hours per day.)  All in all our benefits aren't too bad. Employer contributes more than half of cost and up to 90% of premium depending what you select. Best part is the family coverage.

Take care,

Mitch

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a warm 66 degrees with some fog. Sun is breaking thru. Going up to 90 today with mostly sun all day.

Today is less busy. I have some chores to do and an errand to run. Then, I will take it easy. Shopping is all done for another week. Gas was at $3.49, which is lowest in the area.

Maybe some train time later. Need to relax.

Dining car has arrived and it's time for breakfast. Then, it is off to the stops at " Points West ".

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy in SE Indiana.  Roy, congrats on your son making the team.  It is unfortunate kids have to travel and practice so much just to have a chance of making the team.  Our program here is not that far along as we have some seniors who have never played before being on the team this year and some may get varsity minutes.  "My" soccer girls are at home tonight in a winnable game while the boys are on the road.  Hopefully the weather will not interfere with the games.  I did "work" work again last night.  There were bran muffins on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

When I got home I saw the bride made oatmeal raisin cookies, under baked just like I like them.  Talked with her a few minutes before she took off to work.

Heard bits of Palin's speech on the way home.  I am impressed.  I may vote in a whole different manner this fall.

Morning all. Remnants of Gustav gently falling on us today. Glad to hear good news about your daughter, Kurt. Good news about your son, Roy. Still praying for your aunt.

Jack, SP, I sure appreciate hearing from you guys who have gone before me in the parenting biz. Makes it easier for me, in turn, to reassure the bride.

Rich, the bride told me today she wants a pink Vespa...

Good Day All:

Here on the east end of Long Island we have been VERY lucky with the weather, although by tomrrow night we may have some wind and rain as the remains of Hanna go by.

Frankly a rainy Saturday would give me some train time, after a monthly board meeting for a foundation that I chair. It has been almost a month since we had a rainy weekend day.

An interesting debate is going on here concerning cell phone use.

On the Long Island Railroad, unlimited cell phone use is allowed, with the railroad asking riders to speak softly and be considerate.

On the Hampton Jitney Bus Line that serves the east end (North Fork, South Fork), cell use is greatly limited (as in one emergency call), and their policy is enforced  as in putting a uncooperative rider off the bus, and baring them future patronage (HJ busses require reservations).

For the record, due to limited LIRR schedules on the east end, about 80% of the people using transit to travel between NYC and the east end use the Jitney.

What are your thoughts on this ??

For what it's worth, I know how upset people can get over cell phone users, but oft times, people using their cell phones on the LIRR are no louder than people talking amoung themselves.

Oh boy, Ken, you haven't lived until you've ridden a full bi-level Metra coach with everyone on their cell-phone, talking very loudly. I can't fathom such a restriction... Gives me an insight on what inner circle of h*ll it would be like on a plane.

Hey Peeps...

I havent had much time to do much posting... But I did manage to do some work on the building today. Put some outlets in it. I had lights and a ceiling fan but no outlets. So I added one or two today, they are just the standard outlets I am going to get two of those power strips from Lowes that are prewired with like 10 outlets in them for the trains. Also hooked up my little stereo out there to listen to music while I am working...it will come in handy for when I am running the trains also...has a cd player and I will play railroad themed type music...at low levels in the background...

Brutus, Yes that Lionel Building is Dept 56. Do you have to do any eletrical wiring in the basement? Or did you have to before you started to hang the sheet rock? Also getting excited about going to the Train Show In Raleigh at the State Fair Grounds..

Anyhow... ya'll have a good day...

--Black Diamond-- One thing about a train, it doesnt matter where it's going, You just have to decide to get on... Woo Wooo.....

Afternoon all!

Thanks again for the prayers and support for my little ones fall.  Much appreciated.

Received the CTT 2000 back issue on the GG1!  Nice article!  Thanks again Jim Trumpie for the tip!  CTT was $36.95 for 9-issues in 2000...not much price increase in 8-years....maybe I shouldn't say that too loud.  CTT was $36.95 for 9-issues in 2000.  Shhhhh...

Date night tonight!

Phillreading--

The next time you are in a bind w/trailer--block the wheels, raise the trailer tongue with the trailer jack and pull the pin on the hitch and drive away. Go back and simply raise the locking lever and presto you have the hitch and ball in your hands. Many times I have to back my trailer up a small hill to park and I've done that trick OFTEN, it's rare when I have help.

Kurt.....I don't know which child injuries to share, but I am glad you have health insurance.  You're going to need it with a child.

At 3 my son ate 3 red thumbtacks, thought they were candy.....took him 2-3 days to pass those little suckers.  At 4 he decided the bed was a trampoline and found the headboard was most unforgiving.  Stitches in the chin and two loose teeth that survived.  Then there was the time he was chasing another child and put his hand through a glass storm door.....13 more stitches.

Then at 10 he asked if he could take the dog for a walk and came back shortly thereafter crying with his knee split to the bone.....that one took 21 stitches to close.  The funny thing about the last escapade was that wife and I were interrogated by the medical staff to see if our story jived with his......his version at the hospital included a minor detail he had left out when telling us what had happened:  "Well, the dog was pulling me on my skateboard and.....(in stereo, wife and I respond) "On your skateboard?!?!?"  Hospital staff stops considering us child abusers, laugh, and change their tune to "Better you two than me."

The wife wasn't too calm early on about child injuries.  Nearly hysterical would be more accurate.....kind of like when Rich gets that first scratch on his Harley.  But as time went on and the various boo boos mounted, she settled down.

Trust me, it gets worse.

DougM.....how bummed out is your son about all the blood, sweat, and tears he put into those practices?

Chuck.....I finally paid less for gas than you, $3.50 this week.

Chief.....it's been bone dry here for the better part of a month, so wave on some of the next 3 hurricanes my way.  My front grass has gone into full dormancy with a nice golden color, though the rear is fairing a bit better.  We need the rain!.  My wife said with a straight face that I should paint the lawn green after watching one of those "Fix up your home for $13.75" shows.

JimSP.....isn't an ordination coming up soon?

Roy.....glad that wood chipper worked out so well for you disposing of the bodies of those bad contractors.

Brutus.....I waited patiently for you and Tardis to pick me up when I was on vacation up in NH but saw nothing but moose.

Rich.....I can't believe your motorcycle dilemma.  Fortunately you have a wife to help with the decision.  Which Harley did you get?

If I knew Brent's tractor was sitting unattended out in front of his place, he would be putting a claim in with his insurance company about now.  I need a rider!

The California Crew extends their sincere thanks to the Florida boys for taking the natural disaster spotlight off them for a few weeks.

Hey BD - yeah, I ran about 800 feet of 12 gauge romex and also put in a 50 Amp subpanel for my workshop.  In addition to all the lights and outlets, I put in about a dozen outlets that are only now hooked up to that gray conduit that comes out in the joist space above the walls.  That's for future expansion of outlets or phone/cable/networking/whatever we want later.  Seemed like a good idea to plan for the future.

DougDaGrump - that's a nice little Transylvania Docksider and caboose!

Jack - Did you turn on your rotating beacon?  That's how I find giz on the scope!

Rain rain go away, go on up to North Carolina-ay!  Rained all day and took an hour to get to work this morning - I'm sure someone wants it more than I do!  We've had rain all Summer.  Pretty soon, St. Louisans will be born with gills at this rate!

Good Evening everyone.   Tired, long day as we started off with two hearts early in the am and then I am on call, so had to deal with patients till late.  Good to be home, just hope I can stay here.

Rich, I think Wildwood is this coming weekend?  We used to stay at the Rio, but I don't think it is there anymore.  Was a good time.  South Hackensack Volleys used to bring an old ambulance with two stretchers.....we would have stretcher races down the street till the cops shut it down.  Had a lot of fun there.

Well, still working on interviews....did a few by phone tonight.  I am not a big phone person and rarely call  or talk very long.  Sorry, that is just the way I am.  But to conduct a interview over the phone is tough as it is something I need to do, when you can't be face to face as we have people from all over the country.

Chief, hopefully you are doing well with the weather coming your way.  I have been out of touch, but they tell me some big time storms are heading up the east coast and some inland around here.

I DVRed the speech from last night and watched it around 04:30 TODAY.  I had doubts to begin with, but I have become more impressed by her as I learn more about her.

God Bless,

Dennis

Evening all,

Been real busy around here.  I got the 654 apart and cleaned.  All that is left is to glue the windows back in place.  I will do that tomorrow after a good night's sleep.  It is looking pretty good.

Jack - I could relate to the ER stories.  Between the girls and me getting beat up doing projects (AKA Jim the Tool man) we had the seats warmed often.    Ordination is in 95 days.

We have the grand kids tonight.  They are fun but they can wear you out.

Guys take care and God bless

Detroit mayor has finally pleaded guilty to several serious charges and will resign from office as of Sep. 18.
