Aluminum wire should be replaced as soon as posssible when used inside a house or other building. It is not a good wire for inside wiring, was allowed for a few years in the 1970's before Underwriters Lab (UL) banned its use, it is a real potential for fires.

BTW: the power companies use an aluminum/hybrid wire that is very good quality and very expensive for residential use.

Lee, have you tried the local hospitals?  I know that a number of them like to have experienced guys around for smaller jobs where they don't want to bring in a contractor company.  I am sure benefits are a big incentive for you to be looking for a position.  Hospitals usually try to have good benefits as it is hard for them to keep staff from going elsewhere.  Just a thought.

Chief, it was a good joke, all in fun.  Best part about it was no one was getting hurt.  Was a quick day at work.  Only some paperwork and minor things to take care of.  One guy is taking off the next few days for Turkey Hunting, so I will have a bit of work over the next few days.  Got a friend to take care of as has been having some health issues.  Will make arrangements for him to be seen by the best folks.  I don't like for anyone to be in pain, but especially dislike it when it is friends and family.

John, hope that your procedure goes well.  Good luck and get back soon!

God Bless,
Dennis

Morning all from beautiful Southern Ohio

Sunny and cool but it is to warm up.

John- Prayers for you and your surgeon.

Having the granddaughters yesterday was a lot of fun.  We did get the tree trimmings loaded and hauled off, but the place where I get topsoil could not get to their dirt pile due to being wet.  I'll try again today.

I ran into something at church doing a repair job yesterday and maybe someone can help.  The church was built in 1962 and has the original wiring.  The distribution panels are 1962 vintage General Electric.  A few of the breakers no longer function properly and the local electrical supply store, (not Lowes) does not know where to find replacements.  Any ideas where I could find replacement breakers?  I really would not replace distribution panels because of not being able to replace a breaker.  I've already checked for open spares in other panels.  When I would wire a place I'd always put in open spares, too bad they did not do this.

Thanks if any one has any ideas.  I am going to see if I can get some dirt for the flowerbed in front of the garage addition porch.

May God bless

Jim

Lee, Your best bet is one of the houses that specialize in obsolete electrical items.  Before I retired we bought from them all of the time.  The manufacturers will not help you at all with this problem.  I can't remember the company names that we bought from but here is an example of the type of company I am talking about.  They should test the breakers before reselling them.

http://www.baybreakers.com/catalog/about.html

There are more of these companies out there.  I will check tomorrow and come up with a name that we have purchased from and had good results.  Will then email you.

Bow [bow]

Prayers for you, family and doctors, John - hope your surgery goes well!

Chuck - like that dining car and also your new avatar, looks great!  Was that from one of your Buckeye/Chuck shopping trips?

Jim SP - maybe try these guys:  http://www.electrical-ess.com/cgi-bin/electrical/cutecast.pl?session=9pxLrfPChsxkxkhy0x4kLyCLwv&action=&forum=&thread=&user=&query=&msgid=&page=&sort=&do=&key=&others=

I got some help from that forum (I think, looks different though) when I was putting in a subpanel for my workshop - works great, BTW!  220 service to a tablesaw, a dust collector, and plenty of 110/120 left.  No Pile Ups Laugh [(-D]

Kurt, Doug, Sir James and all others, I emailed troop leader and told him I'll hold the fort and wait for the boys at the finish line or something, but no hiking per doctor.  Did stretching this morning and again later - no pain today, so that's a good sign!  Thank God!

RT - Sounds like you are on the way!

Sir James, I've got to pick up Doug and Kurt, then grab you and take a big ole bucket of icecream over to RT's?  Sound good!?  Chewy can lick up the drips on the way Laugh [(-D]

She was in "hog" heaven tonight!  I was cooking a couple pork chops and some grease hit the floor - she was just wiggling and wagging all over as she cleaned up my mess for me - what a sweetie!  After that, she got a nice big bite of porkchop (shhhh - don't tell the "boss lady")!

PS - Jim SP, my old house I owned when I met my wife had that old wiring inside and when I moved in I had the service and box replaced - I think the total cost was like $300?  Now I know how to do this work, it's not hard, and I would do it myself -- but, you have to have them undo the outside service first, then hook you back up.  They should inspect that outside wire, because if the inside box is that old, that outside wire might not be any good anymore!  Sound like you would have to pull new wire inside as well and that might be a big project though.  Good luck!

Laz - YES, that's the commercial - very funny!

Sunny but cool today in the Great White Nawth.  Melt, dag gummit! MELT!

Chief,   I got curious when you said both engines make sounds in lashup ( MU'd ).   So I separated them so I could hear them individually and, holy heffer, you're right!   Motor sounds come from both units.  The horn and bell sound only from the front unit.  Thanks for pointing this out.  Gonna put some miles on them in one direction then switch them front to back for more break in running.

Hello all. As i try to get familiar with everyone, John, I see you have surgery coming up soon. Prayers and best to you.

Have been cleaning out the room that will become wifes home office. Boxed up, temporarally, 'N' gauge PA passenger cars and 'HO' Baltimore Ohio passenger cars that I bought for my youngest son. He's now 18 and trains are far from his intrest. I plan on keeping these trains safe for him hoping the day he may have children of his own, the intrest to share this hobby with his children will be kindled.

My 3 line layout that son and I enjoyed came down to build the sound studio, his ultimate intrest and good for the whole family as we are all invloved musically. The new train room is almost ready for development as the two afore mentioned projects near conclusion.

Whew! I feel busySmile [:)]

Reclinerized again.  Watched Santa Fe on TCM as I ate dinner.  Yes, that late.  Got back from Mom's later than expected.  Got cabbage in the garden.  Put in onion sets.  "Buddy" I am trying to help stay out of trouble was at pond about dark.  Had the youngest brother with him.  They had caught some nice crappie.  Did somemore chatting as I fed fish and the geese [pair nesting there].  Fed deer and came home to heat up left overs [fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green peas].  Suppose to rain for the next two days.  Wife leaving for Youngest's in Wilmington tomorrow PM.  Sleep tight.  God bless.  BTW: John is going to do great with surgery.  Got it from a high source [he has a lot of suppoet from this group].

Had to drive down to East Boston this morning at about 1:30 am.  Passed a state trooper at the side of the road, cruiser with flashers on....bad scene.  A deer was struggling up against the guardrail, apparently hit/skip as there was no car or truck present.  Deer couldn't get up.  While I chalk it up to the downside mix of cars and wildlife, it always seems a shame.  What bothers me is we have a serious problem with deer overpopulation, but a reasonable hunting period to cull the numbers never seems to come to the forefront until lyme disease spikes, starvation takes its toll, or there's a vehicular fatality.  And whomever hit the deer didn't stop.  Sigh [sigh]

RT, glad to hear bureaucry has millimetered its way forward and you might get a start date soon?!  What a saga, but your story is one of encouragement and determination for those in the job hunt.  Bow [bow]  Banged Head [banghead]

Brent, you seem to be spending a lot of time at the chiropractor lately.  Sounds suspicious.  Case of KLFAS syndrome......kitchen light fixture avoidance syndrome?

Good morning all,

It is a cloudy day in SE Indiana with rain on the way and temps rising to the 50s.  Tomorrow I have two doctor's visits (dental and vision) so I am taking the day off.  Somehow I am looking forward to this weekend.  It should be more relaxing than the last one.  I did weights at the YMCA before I ate supper last night.  Much better situation.  We watched "Deal or No Deal" and I did some more Second Life.  The offer at the YMCA about a week in the condo turned out to be an unintentional April Fool's joke as it is available to members who work at a certain factory.  It is so typical of how half-a---d they do things there.  They don't clean snow off their walkways; they allow certain groups to remain in the building after closing time; and in this case, they did not distinguish who was eligible to participate.  It is really frustrating, but they have the only game in town, they know it, and they never forget to remind you they know it.  Off my soapbox now.

I thought I would get another Lionel Classic car, but I got nipped at the last minute.  Oh, well.  I had the regular fare in the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
