Hello all,
Not sure of the etiquette here if you have an opening salutation by saying Good Night, or what? Oh well on night shift and that is the kinds of turn around you have when working nights and your day "starts" at 3 p.m.
Bride and I had a meeting in Lancaster and I tried to make a stop in a Smoke Stack, but was told No, we did not have time. Too bad, so close and not able to stop, oh well train budget is recovering right now anyway. It rained pretty much all the way there and back. I was dropped off at work and bride went on home.
Got a thermos of coffee and it should hold me through the night. All take care
May God bless, especially those in need, God knows what you need and will provide it in His time

Mornin' boys. Mostly cloudy and 50 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. I think it will be a good train buying/layout visiting/railfanning day. Took fifey's-wifey out to dinner last night for fried shrimp and stuffed rockfish, and she must have really liked her meal. I'm feeling pretty zippity-do-dah this morning...and it's not even my birthday!
GregM - I have endured years like you are going through now. While you're in the valley, don't forget to look up at the peak. And if you really enjoy this painting thing, I know of a cape cod that needs a coat or two...
Chief - There are some great nighttime photos of your SD80's at Cresson, PA on railpictures.net. Have you given any further thought on the CNO&TP?
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cloudy 42 degrees. Going up to 52 today, with a little sunshine.
Today is a busy day. Niece and son are coming to visit, later. I have some errands to run and the usual chores around the house. Maybe I'll get some train running in, later. I need to relax.
Nascar race today from Texas. Longer track.
Dining car has arrived and it's breakfast time. Later.
Y'all have a great Saturday.
Chuck
Even in these trying times there is laughter. Karen has wanted pancakes for breakfast for quite a while, (she is watching her diet very carefully). So this morning she mixed up a batch of batter for us. When I commented that the batter seemed too thin, Karen said she had even added more mix to the bowl because she thought so too. I have always had the task of cooking the pancakes, Karen says when she does it they never turn out. So after I poured some on the griddle I could see that the pancakes were not raising either. I said "maybe all the rise had gone out of it." refering to the pancake mix. Karen's response
"Sounds familiar."
I really love this woman!
GOOD MORNING
We have a beautiful sunny morning, going to 60s. Finally.
This is a special day in our little family.2 kids with same birthday 6 years apart. Our oldest son born in 1963 and our daughter in 1969.
As usual not sure what the day will bring so I'll just roll with it. Everyone have a great weekend.

Hi GIZ,
Dreary day today after rain yesterday. May hit 60? Ran a nice 3.5 miles this morning felt good. Tomorrow will do a 6 miler?
May go TROUT FISHIN this afternoon? Got to check creek first to see how dirty it is from rain. Then if we go probably have a fire with BRO and dogs and burgers with some fine OL MIL.
All have a good one.
B GOOD or B GONE,

Good afternoon everyone. Got to go help assemble and set up some granddaughter furniture at granddaughter's place. May as well say it's her place because her stuff occupies most of the space in all of the rooms except the kitchen and bath.
Greg, your painting escapade brings back some "great" memories......the dreaded bathroom. I figure, how tough can it be? Lots of work around doors, mirrors, the tub, vanity, molding, closet inticasies, etc.....what the heck, will just take a little longer than rolling unobstructed walls.
The wife looked for a color over the course of a couple of "paint shopping" trips. The entire dining room table was covered in paint swatches. Comes home, excited she has found THE color. The most putrid shocking pink. "I don't like it."
My opinion fell on deaf ears, so I paint a 3' x 3' spot on the wall, let it dry, and tell her to observe it in natural light and artificial. She still likes it. Paint the room and the closet with shelves. Daughter and SIL come over, look up the stairs and into the bathroom and start laughing hysterically. Continue laughing upon closer inspection.
Wife takes paint can back to store and gets more, cutting the color to soften the shock value. Comes home. I'm ANGRY, remain silent, repaint the bathroom a couple days later, skipping the closet for the time being. Same pre paint process, 3' x 3' swatch applied and let dry, look at it under natural and artificial light. I still hate it. She doesn't.
Daughter and SIL come over. Laughing commences again. Wife gives up on the pink color and returns to paint store.
Now she's into earth tones. Narrows it down to two, picks one. The paint swatch on the wall routine again with both colors. She picks one. "You better be sure." Painted two 3x3 swatches, one for each color. Her choice remains the same. Jack starts to paint again, well beyond caring about the freakin color. Get finished. Wife looks at the job....."You used the wrong color." Yup, I was so ANGRY I had grabbed the wrong can.
Daughter and SIL come over. No laughing. Moving in the right direction according to her logic.
Painted that sucker 4 times!
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Mitch, glad to hear Katie is doing so much better. This isn't the first time I've heard that story. I'd suggest to the vet she remain on the antibiotics for an extended period of time to make sure whatever infection she had is knocked out completely. We train with a couple whose dog got a staph infection, initial response to antibiotics minimal, vet left the dog on the antibiotic for 6 weeks. The dog's recovery was steady, slow, but complete.
Happy birthdays all around for Carter and Sir James' kids too!
Doug, guess I missed that one - I'll look for it. Sounds like a fun trip, bet it will be warm compared to home!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Ran some trains this afternoon in my basement what fun even if it was only on the floor, looked up as best as I could the otherday for info(menu) from a new resturant called The Bluefish on the cap, well somehow I got on a page that had a how to write a business plan for a reasturant so I got to wondering is there one for a hobby shop, found some advice on running a hobby shop and did a search for a business plan template for word.
I most likely will never own a hobby shop but it is fun to read up on how to plan for one
Jack & GregM,
Been there, done that. But in my case, no matter how irritated I may get it is SO MUCH better that I paint than let my better half do it. I honestly believe that she ends up with more paint on her and everywhere else than on the wall.
As far as any minor household project does the term "Might as Well" come to mind ? Whether it be a major remodel or just hanging a picture it always turns into since we are doing this we might as well do this to. $$$$$$$
Got a question for you Weaver operators. The 2002 GP's, are they vertical dual motors or were they still using the older driveshaft & single motor ?

GOOD EVENING ALL
Chief- it sounds like you are happy to be home.
We had a nice Mich. day, went to 62 I think. The ground is too wet to do anything with but we did go for a walk. Not a long ways, just looking around the neighborhood. Party for our two birthday kids postponed as one of the g/sons is sick. Best it just stays there. Our youngest son stopped by with his two monsters and they were full of energy, He said they were outside all day but hadn't slowed down any. They should sleep good. Hope I do. All is well,,,S.J.
HI GIZ,
Well no fishin today. Went to church then out to eat with wife and BRO and his wife. Ate great had Wisconsin Shrimp. What it is, is 6 bigger shrimp smothered in cheddar cheese and has pieces of bacon in it and peppers too. Great taste with french fries and fire fried vegitables. YMMMMMM! Great meal all of us had this and it was well woth $16 dollars each. Definitly a winner.
Came home took dog for a walk about half mile and then went down to run trains. MILLERSBURG YARDS were running all SD90s. CSX, NS CP, and CONRAIL. ALL ran good NO PILE UPs except for putting the NS on the track wrong that caused a short but besides that all good. Even WIFE and dog came down to check it out and said she really liked all the progress I made this year. Maybe she'll buy me something at YORK?
Hope all are well?
Good evening all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 60s. It was a busy day and last night. Spent last night working on scholarship applications (hope we get some money out of this). Did go to the YMCA and do weights. Watched new episode of "Numb3rs". It was good. Finished up housework this morning. Fixed a lamp. Walked for an hour on the outside course at the YMCA at a 4 MPH pace. Washed three of the vehicles today. Got Domino's Pizza and watched "Pride and Prejudice" (the one with Kiera Knightly. Not as good as one of her other flicks, "Bend it like Beckham", but they all can't be that good). Had bacon and biscuits this morning on the dining car. Manning starts 11th tomorrow at St. Petersburg. Danica and AJ IV start way in the back. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Hum...Looks like food was a big part of the day for many at the pot. I worked 07:00-15:00 hrs and then fixed brake bulb on wifes cousins car. Off to church music practice and then to pick up.........here it comes.........food product............ Buffalo wings, mild and garlic sauce. Hummm satisfied tummy!!
Still clearing out room for wifes future home office and put the 'N' gauge trains away. When the needs of the home are done the trains will begin to reasemble. I'm contemplating 3 scale layout. 'N" in the small corner, 'HO' by the window, (this could be an L shape of about 6'x4') and 'O' at the 8' wide far wall.
cooltech Best to all!
Week is winding down in Jax, FL. A cool 62 tonight after an afternoon and evening of off and on steady rains. Thunder and lightning around but not here. Grilled steaks on the grill in the rain-nice supper with Madge and soaked in the spa for about an hour.
Did get to the LHS this afternoon. Took in my Lionel Cab Forward to have Dave take a look at it. Quit running a while back. Tender spouts off lots of sounds but no amount of resetting or changing ID #'s has helped so put it in for repairs. Had a nice chat with anjdevil2 and Rose who really is the one who runs Dave's LHS.(At least that is my opinion-Rich-is that right?). Came home without spending any money!!! Have plenty on order though. No time for trains today or tomorrow. Still have a set of Elementary Statistics tests to grade-157 points on each one. Will be a busy time tomorrow night.
Have a good rest of the weekend all.

Chief, Aside from enjoying the ribbon and wrapping paper how did he do with his first piece of b'day cake ?
Mike, her Pride and Prejudice is one of our favorites.
Doug, both hands in full swing. See, wife cooked a monster cupcake [they now have pans for them, pointed top and regular round bottom] for him. Then she cooked 50 regular cupcakes for everyone to have. The monster one was his with one big candle on top. Came off excellent. He got his own in his highchair and everyone got a cupcake so no cake to cut. Seems that cupcakes is a Martha Stewart thing this year. Off to bed.
Jack - Like your paint scenerio, been through that as well. Our family room, hallway and 1 bedroom is a Peach color. Which is the pinkist peach I've ever seen. We all refer to it as pink, and not really appreciated. (Best to just let it go, here anyway.)
Spent most of the day in the train room, downloading DCS 4.0. The download was easy and went quick. Getting the serial port to work was a bit of a challenge! That took the majority of the time. Once the downloads were done, a couple of unusual things ---
The new DCS software provides lash-ups on TMCC engines. But, it also reserves engine numbers 91 through 99 for lashup train #'s. So had to reprogram 2 engines to totally new id numbers because of that.
Second thing, the TMCC engines had to be deleted out of the DCS and added back in. When they would come up the speed was at 225 mph. But got it all done!
We gotten interested in watching the old classic movies recently. North to Alaska, is up for tonight, with John Wayne.
So toak to you all tomorow have a great day!
Morning!
Happy Birthday to your children and grand children, Sir James, and Chief! We did cupcakes for our youngest's first birthday too...3-yo decided that is what the 1-yo wanted.
Watched 3:10 to Yuma...Ok as a rental. Train only at very end.
Bride home...Me still fighting this stuffy head. Great day yesterday! 60 degrees, and sun, was able to get the kids outside! Now on to yardwork.
Kurt
It is a sunny 45 degrees. Going up to 70 today with sunshine. This may be the start of something called Spring.
Today is a relaxing day. A few things to do and then I will take it easy. Planning to spend some time outside and then run trains.
Nascar race from Texas. Junior has the pole. Go Chevy.
Dining car is here and breakfast is served. Cheerios and goodies.
Y'all have a great Sunday. Looking forward to SPF.
Mornin' boys. Rain and 46 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Already started laundry, repaired a broken kitchen drawer, and fixed a loose hot-water handle. Even retro-fitted my new tunnel portal (more on that below) on the layout. Fifedom is just like the ARMY...we do more by 9AM then most people do by 11:43...
Now, about yesterday. Picked up my buddy Tom and headed out to Brent's at 0930. Arrived at 88's abode around 1022. Checked out the new layout, which he had double-headed GP-30s on the outside, and his C&O passenger consist on the inside. He demonstrated Legacy for us, and it ran great. Boys, the pictures that Brent posts do not convey how nice his layout really is. He has accomplished so much in a little over 3 months, and it's pretty cool to see the basic track plan I gave him come to life. Off to Sykesville to a short visit to a train store (picked up some of that brick sheet for streets).
Then we headed out around 1115 for the famous B&O Point of Rocks Station, where we had to wait a good hour for an east bound coal-drag to head up the Old Main, and right after an ash train came west bound of the Metropolitan Sub. Around 1300 arrived in Brunswick, had lunch at Roy Rogers, then headed down to the railyard. Caught the CAPITOL LIMITED heading eastbound 3 hours behind schedule. We milled around the station area for another hour before a manifest freight headed east, and simultaneously another freight snuck by us from behind.
Back to Mt Airy we stopped by the train store there, met Tom the proprietor. He gave me a tour of the work shop, and gave a demo of MTH's new HO K4 with DCS. WOW! They have crammed so much coolness into this steamer, and I must admit, had this been available 15 years ago, I probably would not have made the leap to O. It is AWESOME. The MSRP of $399 may be steep, but I recall how brass engines were commanding that kind of coinage back in the 80's and early 90's. Kudos to Mike's. Other manufacturers are gonna have to cowboy up...
Brent & Susie-Q made us a nice chicken dinner, while Tom & I played trains. Brent also cut my new Knobley Tunnel portal from a piece of poplar, which he milled out on the right end to facilitate a curved exit from the bore. I love how it turned out...Thanks B!
Sunday morning sunshine,ahh finally.
Brutus did my computer scare you away? I did not hear back from you.
I forgot to mention the lionel dealers are or have received their christmas 2008 catalog. The usual fare. Have a great sunday and stay safe,,,,,S.J.
