Well got to 23 today, Cold though. Tomorrow evening to get snow flurries? We'll see.
Put most of my engines on Legacy. Lots o time switching them over to new numbers and giving em names, oh well there in now. I recorded them on paper to so not to loose all the numbers in case anything happens to handheld. Ran a lashup with two SD90s, NS and CSX. Boy did they fight going down the tracks. Really pushing and pulling, don't know what I did wrong but they didn't get along, NO JOKE. Wonder if it was something in the Legacy?

IIABSDISEI with temps in 20s. I worked on the standard gauge layout on the back porch (the same one as I had at the historical society) and went to the YMCA for a 30 minute track work session. I dodged a major bullet as I foolishly bid on an Alaskan work train set and then realized I had no idea where I would put it. Fortunately some one else put in a higher bid. It made me realize that I need to rethink priorities sometimes. Trains are nice and I like to collect a desired item now and then, but I am beyond the point where a major acquisition is feasible in terms of space. I guess I could sell some stuff, but the market is so down that it would not be worth it.
I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.

Just so as ya know, the CN version of the Legacy SD40-2 also has ditch lights. I broke down last Sat. and bought this engine ( so much for my self imposed restrictions to transition era only, eh?) at a LHS in anticipation of the arrival of Cab2. Sure enough, my Legacy control pre-order was waiting at the other LHS when I got home that afternoon. So I've been busy setting things up. Unfortunately, the sounds started to crap out ( intermittent cutting out which progressively got worse ) after only a few minutes of run time. I'd bust open the shell to check for cold solder joints but I guess that'd void the warantee, so it's back to the LHS for service next weekend.
I must agree though, what I did hear of the SD40 sure sounded great and it runs soooooo smoooooth and slooooooooow! Nice paintwork too! The way the graphics are applied to the sides make it look as if all the access doors could be opened. One overlooked detail is the exhaust fans inside their housings....they're there but are pretty much impossible to see. Maybe a different color would help them show up inside the black housings. The 2 cab doors, while separately applied, can't be opened. No biggie here but they are tempting for those of us curious enough to try prying them open. Just a warning here....you'll bust them off.

Greetings from frigid Vegas. Only made it into the 50s today.One down side to living here I'll never like or get used to--no basements for trains--or other guy stuff.
Went to the park w/ daughter and enjoyed sunshine.
Back to work tomorrow and the chaos that is the second semester. Schools in LV are unique--not sure what guidance counselors do here. Kids add/drop classes for weeks on end and make a shambles of gradebooks and class continuity. We also register the kids for their classes and are responsible for recording where they go after they leave our classes--oh well, at least it's sunny.
Thinking of taking the Giants and the points.

No trains today.Cable guy hooked this laptop to the internet, spent the afternoon playing with it. Sure runs fast, I got everything under control I think. Hi Roy, Was just wondering if you were out of town again. Didn't see you post for a while. Kids sure take to the DCS handheld as it is much more intuitive than the Cab-1. I think the new Legacy will be better for kids to use. I used to do the same at a LHS that had a DCS/TMCC layout. (I helped to build it). They have since taken it down and now have only a small test layout. Economic decision. The O gauge sales no longer supported all that real estate.
Don, Enjoy your half day holiday. You did check with the boss first, didn't you? That club layout location sure offers some fabulous scenery. Anythning happening regarding possible renovations to the area affecting your clubs home?

Funny. Wife said rumor has it, wintery mix tomorrow morning. You Yanks just won't quit. Got to run some trains and then back to Raleigh for Mayor's Assoc meeting at steak house. Mighty cold for trip tonight. Went to feed deer yesterday and they were waiting and it was hour before dark. 9 came out and ate. One big doe [must have been leader] came walking toward me [standing at back of pickup]. She stopped, would move her head back and forth and stomp her foot at me. Did that for about 5 minutes and then hungar took over and she went and ate.

Well, I told my dad I wanted to build a "small" layout at his house since Im staying there and he said sure. At first he didn't seem too interested in it, but after a few minutes of talking over some ideas for it he was talking about where to put the holes in the walls!!!
We decided to have a double main dog bone that has an industrial yard at one end in room A and has a town/underground station at the other end in room B. He always wanted an underground station and even started one years back on an N scale layout that was never finished.
Cant wait to get this thing started! Have a good day everyone.
Morning all!
Quiet day today! Train show over the weekend went great! I put an MTH NYC 4-4-0 or Climax on the track (they are both slow runners, so ideal for this) and I put the MTH remote into every kid's hands that walked up to the layout. Boy did they have fun and how their eyes lit up when I told them they were responsible for running a train. One mom thanked me for paying attention to her son. Hopefully we recruited some new train hobbyists!
Still cold here - but not as cold as up nawth! - and raining a bit. 41 right now and that may be the high for today. The prediction for tomorrow is a "wintery mix". What is that? Must be some obscure meterological term for "snowhizo." Well you guiz won't sneak it into Texas for very long.

Too bad the Packers didn't win last night, but Giants played a great game and Favre was not looking well in the second half. There was a nice shot of Favre talking pleasantly to Manning after the game. What a good sport.
Superbowl could be interesting this year if Manning can make that next step up.

Good Morning - Going to go in for a 1/2 day today. (Thanks Dennis) Then come home and clean train room so I can take some pictures. Weather is cooling down again, only getting to 62 today. Then showers and rain forecasted for the rest of the week. Have some big JD tractors, got to figure out a place for them.
Planning on going down to San Diego on Saturday, and visiting the Kid's Club. Enjoy the day!!

MartyE, My basement was just too cold in the winter and too humid in the summer. My dream is to have a separate building with a woodshop on the first floor and train room on the second floor. With heating and A/C. Yeah, right, maybe once I win the lottery. Are you actually moving or is that just a wish too?
I keep wishing... No someday I will move and the trains will stretch their legs. It's a wish, a hope, a dream. We're looking hopefully in 2 years. Personally I hope the housing thing is on the edge of coming back but just not quite there so I can get a good deal.

Well its 10 degrees going to 22,maybe. Nothing new since last nite, I ran the new GP38 a little while last nite. The cable guy is suppose to be here today to hook-up my internet, can't take all these netzero disconnects any longer. I put it off a long time because I didn't want to change every thing, but enough already. I think I will wait a couple days before cancelling zero so if I have problems learning the new system I can still be here.sorry about that. It is a cold 12 degees. Clear skies. Going up to 28 today, which is a little warmer than yesterday. No snow predicted.
Today, I am busy. I have to finish a project in the house. Should take a few hours. No time for trains. Wife has her final doctor's appt., today. Should be ok. She has not had any pain for awhile. Healing has come along fine. I'm glad that's over.
Well, Green Bay lost the game. Now, on to the Super Bowl. Daytona is coming up soon. It will be interesting to see the new teams and drivers.
Dining car has rolled in. Well stocked. Time for breakfast and then it's headed to " points west ". Enjoy.
