DCS came in yesterday.  I Got up this morning and hooked it up, and programmed my two MTH engines/locos.  I now see what everyone is saying about a DCS or TMCC setup.  I had operated Buckeye's TMCC layout, but this was the first experience with DCS.  I am so glad I pulled the trigger and got it.  Gone are the days of manually hitting the horn and bell buttons to trigger features.  It was so easy.  I was up in running in less than 5 minutes...

Well, off to the pediatrician.  Jack has been caughing too much at night lately.

Hey, I'm back.....Banged Head [banghead]

Left NJ yesterday morning, temps in the 30's got here at 12:30 temps in the 60's....

Brought back my Dad's 1666 & tender, going to clean it up and get it running.  May start on it tonight, depends how bad work gets...and it's already a disaster....6 day of work by Friday.  Sometimes it doesn't pay to go on vacationBanged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead].

Gas in NJ was generally $2.83-2.87, here in paradiseWhistling [:-^], its $3.18.  Looks like 50/50 on the move right now, depends upon sale of house, etc.  Will make formal presentation to wife next week.  I have a Fire service seminar Satuday, so it won't be done then.  Probably going to buy my BIL '87 Lebaron, all the engine & trans work done/rebuilt.  If I leave this job, I'll need a car, all I have is the company car...the rest of the cars are up for sale and I'm not gonna drive 'em now.

OK see ya later

Morning all.

Here is one for LAZ.  Jon E. might have taken it.

Yankees failed again.  Rain started last night and temps were on the rise. Thumbs Up [tup]  Damp and warmer today.  A trip or two to UPS and get started packing for a long flight tomorrow evening.  Now for red hots and grits.  Have a good one.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 20s and snow late tonight.  I check the weather everyday and it is warmer in balmy Alaska than it is here.  Had some work related stuff to do last night and the digestive system was not functioning too well (or maybe too well, take your pick!) so I really did not do much else.  Good thing about today is that it is pay day.  There was a nice breakfast of bran muffins waiting for me this morning courtesy of the "saucy wench" in the kitchen :-)   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is 12 degrees. Cold. Going up to 32 today, with some sunshine. No snow for today.

Today is the day that I drive up to Cambridge for groceries. Gas around here is still at $2.87 a gallon. Might be cheaper north of here. Looks like there will be no train time today. Maybe I could squeeze in an hour, this afternoon.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

HI GIZ,

20 and little cool not as bad as other morns this week but still cold.  No snow, lied again, said it evaporated before hitting the ground.  Way to cover up their boneheadedness.

Tonite to clean tracks, after supper.

  B good,

Mornin' Fellas!

This is my drive by post for the day... heading to DC for a meeting to demo my project for the Congressional Liaison's office. Stopped by the LHS yesterday to pickup some track, got most of it Thumbs Up [tup], rest should be there tomorrow or Friday. Also picked up the other 'rag' so I have something to read during the 2 hour trip to DC.

Have fun, and be safe.

Mitch - sucks about the Subaru! Both the Prius and Camry are nice cars, the Prius is about the size of a Civic, and a nice commuting car. Not so good for long road trips.

Lots more to say, but no time. Shuttle leaves in 14 mins... so I better run!

Jim, I will try to scout out the train museum earlier in the week.  Once I get to the meeting, I will be able to check the agenda and see when I will be able to get out.....many times, they have presenters who just rehash old arguments.  New kids on the block tend to do that, they do a litterature search and decide they will show those of us who have been doing it for awhile how we need to start doing it "correctly".  Then they get experience and learn us older guys had it right all along.  Anyway, I skip those talks as they bore me.  As we used to say at the firehouse: "get some time on the job before you lecture me son".

Heading out tomorrow after cases are done.  Hope to get on the road early enough not to drive in the dark.  Have a good week everyone.  I will be bringing the computer, but only for the kids to watch DVDs on as SWMBO will have my head if I spend too much time at the keyboard.

God Bless,

dennis

Morning all,

Jim, Sorry to hear about your pal. That's well out of order, as we say over here.

Did sombody mention Toyota Prius! Whats going on? I've been away for a few days and the home of the V8, land of the Dodge Ram V10 has gone all 1.5 litre four pot on meShock [:O]. Please say its not so. Sad [:(].

Had some train running time last night. It's great to just be able potter about doing bits on the layout.

Good night, Chief - hope you feel better.  Just got back from Sir James' place.  He was asleep, but Chewy snuck in and grabbed us some peanut butter and Banilla - Laugh [(-D]

Got the van serviced yesterday and they kept it through today, also replaced tires (nearly 4 years old) and fixed window and hatchback - cost about $800. There went a really nice trainset! Hope I can get some more OT when I get back from FL.

Wife found a place near my hotel that has an international train and trolley museum? We'll be going there on Sunday (a week from this Sunday)!

Now, just got off the phone and found out one of my fishing buddies got fired with 30 days pay. He's disabled and they let him go because he couldn't keep up. If they don't give him a disability retirement package, there will be a lawsuit for sure. I think that if he does get the disability benefits, that will be the best solution in the end, he has been having real problems due to some disabilities from the first Gulf War.

Good night!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Chief,

Don't forget to visit Lee's  childhood home in Alexandria near Duke street.  Just a Yankee boy pointing out a little history on Lee and "The War of Northern Aggression."

Still can't figure out what to do with grits but cover them in milk and spread on the sugar.

Mitch,

Your state may have some tax credits for buying a hybrid. The Dealer should know. Federal tax credit has run out on the Prius, but we did get $1500 state tax (Colorado) credit on ours. Worth checking on.

Good Evening All,

We got about 2 inches of snow today and the temp. reached about 32, then went down fast.

No playing with trains today, spent time off and on moving files out of my old email address before I call and cancel. I've been told some sites give a grace peroid but I don't know for sure.

Brutus getting close to my bed time got lots of banilla, but no cookies. Good Nite Chewy..S.J.

Evening to All,

Car woes still continue to get worse.  Found out today that my Subaru is really dead.  Cylinder has a hairline crack.  I owe the mechanic about $2000 for parts.  I am probably going to sign over the title to him and he will find an engine block in a junkyard and then repair it and auction it to recoup his expenses for labor.  I hate having to rush out to find a car.  Drove the Camry Hybrid and the Prius.  Like them both but will probably go with the Prius due lower initial price and better fuel economy.  Toyota dealer in MD was only about $1000 difference in price between the two vehicles.  Depends on what the PA Toyota dealer will do on the price.  Probably call the credit union to work out financing.

Absolutely no train $$$ now with the vehicle purchase looming...

Take care,

Mitch

I know.  Just trying to get a rise out of you Yanks.  Think the Yanks held Arlington.  I remember Robert E. Lee as mainly living in Lexington VA.  Great town in the Shenandoah.  Wife and I go there off and on.  Also, the great Stonewall Jackson and Lexington VA.    Careful edw, you'll tell where you live.  Wink [;)]

Here is a link to Arlington House, Robert E. Lee's former home, now the site of Arlington National Cemetery.

http://www.nps.gov/arho/

Just a few miles away in nearby Alexandria, Virginia, stands a monument to the Alexandria residents who died fighting for the South during the Civil War, oops, I mean the "War of Northern Aggression". The soldier is facing south toward Dixie.

That sounds good. Wes should be happy. Make sure the creek drains into the wetlands and not visa-versa.

Evening all,

Getting ready to go to work.

Jon-I have an 03 Avalon and love it.  Bride drives it most of the time.  Almost 74,000 miles and just routine maintenance.  On the open road 30-32 mpg, in town 26-28 mpg.  Very comfortable and room for three tall adults in the back seat with the front seats full back.

Jason- I do a 12 hour day night rotation.  In the almost 32 years I’ve been at the plant where I work, all but maybe 8 years has been shift work.  It does have advantages, but it is out of sync with the rest of the world.

Buying the green cars is a toss up.  You pay more in the front end, there are expensive maintenance items in addition to the regular stuff, and the technology would be beyond a lot of do it yourselfers and local garages, so you have dealer service with flat rates.  I once figured the break even point at well over 100 K miles before the gas savings money covers the initial larger cost and this is when a lot of the high cost items (batteries) will be replaced.

Don-Neat idea to use the printer stand!  Recycled, looks good and very functional.

Got to run

Check back later

May God bless

Jim

Some silos don't have tops so that the tree can grow up big and strong.  Driving through MO you can see a lot of old silos that have a tree growing up through them and out the top for some reason.

Hey Dougsagrump, check out ebay - there is a guy selling a modified Lionel vat car = Halloween vat car.  Looks pretty good!

Stock Market: Not me Roger - I'm just buying on a discount for a while, that's how I look at it.  I've been making my real money in the "I" fund, which is international stocks.  This includes a lot of companies that you think of as American though, that moved their HQ offshore for tax purposes.

Here's a graphic for a little signage for you Brent (88)!

How many train budgets are, or going to be, affected by the stock markets current downward spiral?  I know I'm having second thoughts about any new large purchases if anything of interest shows up in the '08 catalogue.

Just starting to rain here, luckily the temp. is just above freezing.  Further north in North GA should be getting freezing rain this afternoon.
