Morning to All,

Lazy day here. Reclinerizing and watching NASCAR race. Weather is not great, had hoped to wash car and do some yard clear up. It is too wet and windy.

Going to grill some steaks for dinner. Think I will go to Wal-Mart to pick some things up.

Anyone guess why this is happening on the layout? I have a reverse loop on one end, and any engine that runs out on it stops dead at either end of the far '1/4' of the loop. I have three remote switches along one end with fiber pins for each along the outer edge. I guess I have to find a photo of it. I'm not explaining this well at all.  Confused [%-)]

I have decided to not get Legacy because I am about done with buying engines and TMCC I has served me well. However, sounds like you and the Chessie Cat are very happy with its performance. I have read some about its features and if was younger and into Norfolk Southern diesels would probably use it.

Mornin' Fellas.

Eventful weekend here in the woods. Little sister, brother-in-law, and niece left this morning... was nice to see then but we can do with all the drama (all I am saying on that topic). Had my b-day celebration last night (b-day is tomorrow) and Susie-q pulled through and honored me with the Chessie 3044 GP-30! Thumbs Up [tup] She got to stretch her legs with my new Legacy System (thanks Rich) last night. Then I latched her up with 6495 and what a dream they are together. Battery is dead in the EOSxt so pics will have to wait.

Oh, the kitchen light is sitting on the floor. Didn't have time to get to it this weekend.

Haven't taken the time to read all the posts, but do want to say Hello to Dewey, always good to hear from him.

Watching the Penguins put a licking on the Flyers... [tdown]

Morning All!  WOW it took and act of congress to get on the board this A.M.  Kept getting a page unavailable when logging in.  Hope everyone is having a good day.  Been playing around with DCS4 for a while and still doing some Legacy stuff.  Looking forward to the York spring meet.  Gotta head up to my kids Cheerleading competition in Hershey after Saturdays show closes.  Perfect timing for that.  I usually get out of those things.  Don't know what's worse to deal with the cheerleaders or the cheer parents.

Yep Chief, home with what for two weeks now, the Doc says is the "edge of pneumonia". Told me I could stay home if I did exactly what he said, otherwise he would hospitalize me and I would get really sick! He shipped in oxygen, nebulizer [steamed meds] and a C-pak---I feel like a robot getting batteries charged. Also doing the steriod/anti-biotic bit along with very high-priced Tussin--$80 per bottle. Went up the 16 steps to the layout room and had to rest for 15 minutes before I could play!

Caught a "virus" from one of my "parasitic" grand daughters who kissed me right before she sneezed on me---one of those mean Raleigh school system contamiants. Anyway getting better but sore back from coughing---fella could get a hernia from this mess.

Know little about the NS except it takes 5 minutes for it to pass at the grade-level 4-lane Yanceyville Rd crossing on the double-track main northbound out of G'boro. Also, at nght can hear it horning there occasionally. Have watched idiots weave around the crossing gates just as that sucker is getting up speed and coming hard---scary!

Although it is too modern for my era, my Atlas MP-15 Switcher arrived yesterday. Haven't test run it yet but it shore is purty in its "Tuxedo". Bought it because one like it shifted in G'boro in the Mill Yards for years. Sons are diesel types and run "modern" SD-35s, GPs.  I like Atlas and bought their 0-6-0 steam switcher undecorated. Jeff Sohn is decorating it as the passenger yard switcher Spencer assigned to Greensboro in 1950--black and trimmed in yellow gold with "Southern" lettered on the tender like the passenger steamers. I may just carry it around and pet it!

fife may be planning to recommend that you model Lake Ponchatrain and the Slidell to New Oleans Trestle on the south end of Central Lines and the "Ratholes" on the north end. Given your Mayoral duties it would probably only take 2-maybe 3 terms to get all that scenicked.Wink [;)]

OK you two, not familiar with that division of the NS.  Guess you two need to send me some photos and info on how to get that info.  I liked it when Fife suggested it [he knows the NS].  We need to chat.  Dewey, you home or in the "hills"?  Been passing by G'boro for three weeks in a row.  Figured you were "up high in the hills" snowed in.  Later

A & Y - I happen to think that Chief's current layout would lend itself to that stretch of railroad.  Lots of tunnels, deep rock cuts, bridges and ravines, plus his LOVE of NS, make it a natural.  A lot of the topography would be really quick to mock up with styrofoam sheets and a good hot knife.

Not a diesel person but I am currently researching system wide regarding the Southern Ms-4 Heavy Mikado, the SRR's mainline freight engine for 30 years,1923-53. My transition modeling era stops at 1953 for SRR and 1960 for N&W. The Central Lines of Southern consisted of the CNO&TP, AGS and NO & NE[Cincinnati New Orleans & Texas and Pacific, Alabama Great Southern and New Orleans & North Eastern].  Don't know the organization under NS.

The "Rathole" had 27 Kentucky tunnels between Cincinnati and Chattanooga which were enlarged or in most cases by-passed by new right-of-way or "daylighted". Long tunnels were rough duty for steam train crews.

Had a brain lapse yesterday afternoon out in the trainroom.  I've been running the store's layout with a Legacy tied to a ZW much more than I've been running my own trains over the past several weeks.  When I went to run my trains yesterday I dialed up the TPC and nothing.  Went through all the normal checks for power in, power out, reset, etc.  After several minutes of frustration I did one of the "I could have had a V-8" head slaps.  Since with Lagacy the sequence is push the start button, select TR 1, crank it up, select ENG and go, I was using that sequence and totally forgot the sequence for the TPC on my layout is TR-1, AUX1, BOOST.  Almost like forgeting how to start your wife's car when you haven't driven it for a while.Blush [:I]

YORK is only a month away, and still, no one has submitted a plan of attack.

Chief - Have you had chance to research the CNO&TP sub of NS?  Any thoughts?

It's a clear 34 degrees. Going up to 48 today, with some sunshine.

Today is a less busy day. I have a few chores to do and then I will relax this afternoon. I plan on watching the Nascar race from Bristol. If it doesn't get rained out. Race yesterday ended half way. At least, that's the last , that was on TV. Maybe run trains later.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

When you mention "Bridges of Toki Ri" [with William Holden, Mickey Roone,etc] it brings back memories of 57 years ago when I was "temporarily" assigned [8 mos.] to Marine Task Force 95.23 which occupied and defended Yodo Ri Island in Wonsan Harbor. You hear Rooney mention "Yodo" a couple of times. I was a Navy Electrician sent TAD to repair the Marine's field generators, searchlight, Landing Boat electricals[had 5, none ran] and literally freeze! NK was colder than a well digger's----er toe!

Lt. Col Reinke was in charge of the 18 U.S. and 200 ROK Marines and a bunch of crazy Aussie commandos; he simply did not understand that I was a "craftsman" not a fighter and after getting everything fixed he issued me arms,assigned a bunker and kept me til 11/52. The only other sailor was a Corpman fresh out of embalming school in Uvalde, Texas---Marine grunts found this fact hilarous---I was too scared to even grin. [I was able to boat out 5-6 miles and trade captured Chinese/NK rifles, with red star on stock, to "souvenir sailors" on bombardment ships who gave up a Lincoln gas-fired battery charger[welder], once or twice ice cream, a few heavy jackets and awful old UK movies; for single-shot rifles made by Remington in 1937---given "Lend-lease to China]. In retrospect, I think Col Reinke kept me for trading/thievery skills rather than Sparktrician's.

Yodo's mission, [call letters "Gatekeeper"]was infiltration of the mainland and rescue of ditching Marine prop pilots returning to "Jeep" Carriers [Ted Williams, Art Hunter-LA rams, etc]. Wonsan Harbor was where the USS Helena, Wisconsin, Maddox, and a horde of others, wore out the rifling of their gun barrels firing at choo choos, haycarts, Junks and the "cave guns" that rolled out on tracks and tested our [my] "pucker"' daily with their 90mm mortars. Mines in the Harbor like peas in a patch---majority, old Japanese WWII mines that had not been cleared---U.S. lost a lot of YMS Sweepers at Wonsan, the Parrot, Phoebe, Pledge.

Sir James:  Thanks for the offer!  We have a lot going on right now, Bride has been working more ridiculous hours...everyone has a cold...sore throat/runny nose...I'm just trying to keep peace around here right now.  I think I'm finally getting it, after about 2-weeks.  Eating cold ease.  Bride leaves for Europe end of the month for a week.  If I can beat this cold maybe in the next 2-weeks.

Picked-up another piece of the crane puzzle today...Magnet (origional) not much more than new.

Think I'll see if I can find Buster Keaton.

Hello Mike:

My wife and I attended the first two in Indy.  The one in 2000 was awful.  If you remember, it was rainy and muggy.  I-65 was under construction and it was a 6 hour ride home.  2001 was fantastic.  Since it was right after 9/11, there were a significant number of no shows.  We ended getting a room at the Adam's Mark, downtown, for next to nothing.  The weather was great and the race was pretty good too.  After being spoiled by that experience, we knew any future experiences would pale in comparison.  Those were my only two times at the Speedway.  It is an incredible place.

Good evening all,

It was cloudy, cool and rainy in SE Indiana with temps in the 30s and 40s.  As Tom Carnegie would say at the "World's Greatest Racetrack","It's a new track record!"  OK, so I exaggerate a litttle, but I finally did a 10 minute mile at the YMCA track today.  Then I followed it up with an almost 5 MPH walking session for 15 minutes.  Before that I did housework and finished the Lego house project.  I tried to watch the NASCAR race at Bristol, but rain kept getting in the way.  Colin and John, it is good to see some other F-1 fans here as well.  I used to follow the Minardi team and even STR when Scott Speed was driving for them, but after they dumped him, I do not have a favorite.  I went to all the F-1 races at Indianapolis, and I desperately hope it will return there.  The 500 is THE race, but I really enjoy the F-1 event as well. 

I had English muffins and bacon for breakfast this morning on the dining car, and I hope to run trains tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Not a bad day,,we made it to the 40s then it got cloudy but temp held until evening. I did a little more cleaning in the train room and let some trains run while there. All is well. My wife had a scratchy throat today she did not eat much but was nice enough to feed me. And I was Thankful.

Kurt, if you want to run trains some time give me a call and come over. Don't wait for an invite,you are officially invited for whenever.

Bridges of Toko Ri was on TCM this afternoon.  To let you in on a little JohnandJulie13 family history, my Father was in the Navy during the Korean War.  He has a lot of pictures from his time in the Navy.  Unfortunately, this caused me to have some trouble with geography in school.  My teacher could not understand why I thought Korea was in the mediterranean.  I would respond that my Father has shown me pictures of Rome, Athens, Morrocco, Nice, Crete, etc.  So, of course, Korea MUST be nearby...Tongue [:P]  Only when I got older, did I learn that, while in the Navy, my Father was fortunate enough to be on the other side of the world "defending democracy." Wink [;)]

You're right, it was TMC.  Fred Barner was the guy I was talking about.  Use to have his picture on the carrier but think I lost it in the computer where I worked.  I will check in my desktop.  Also my pilot buddy I go visit and shoot with, CMDR. Good evening;

Tried to get the DCS download yesterday and ran into major problems; first my computor needed the Winzip folder or download according to MTH website, then I needed winzip register download as I had too many bugs in my system for winzip to handle. So far I am out $59.90 on winzip downloads that didn't work for whatever reasons, also spent $35.00 for serial to bus cable and $5.95 for cable adapter for TIU unit.  I have looked at the MTH website on how to install the upgrade but it don't mention about how to get the upgrade without any problems.

One of my current projects is near completion; the upper level train is now has tracks all the way around the room and mainline able to run a train, need to work on side track that has passenger cars on it, want to light up passenger cars, have disconnected wire somewhere so I have to find it.  Thinking about using my 250 watt post war Z transformer for power as the two engines are Lionel #'s 611 & 8111 and have no electronics in them. Already have post war A.F. on that transformer, posts A & B.

Have to put the door back on since I put up the last section of my track, can't get a ten foot section of board through the door, also small hallway upstairs to work with, door is mounted on wrong side as for hinges.
