Q - thank you for the update! I will look so smart now since so many people have asked me where the name Ball State came from - now I can tell them!
I quote my forum friends a lot when I talk to my co-workers. They are learning w/o realizing it from people on the forum.
Tree - I will take the chili - I love good chili and probably won't even need the Tums.
Ed - you were doing really well until you hit the onions, peppers and garlic. I will just scrape that part to the side. My mouf would love it, my body would not.
I brought in a beef roast and a pork roast - remember those? Kind of like turkey? I will put them in the freezer and when we run out of ideas, I will make one with tatos and carrots around it. Beef roast - the one food I do eat with ketchup on it. I love that combination.
Ed part 2 - the black shirts are something you will read about only in history books. I think the time of the Cornhuskers has come and gone. The fans will remain faithful to the bitter end, but my crystal ball sez that the end is very near. But....we are becoming a very good university in matters other than football. We are on the cutting edge of a lot of good science work. For that, I am thrilled. (Except for the Driver, I don't thrill easily!)

....Cannonball: If you have not seen Ball Hospital in some years, you might be surprised to see it's size now....
A brand new Cancer center {believe 120 million dollars worth}, is under construction now.
There is one wing of it ten stories high.
Believe they can do almost any treatment there now.
Happy motoring to you both.....
Quentin

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Good morning. We have a clear sky and 46 degrees here in Sioux Falls. It's supposed to warm up to about 73 here this afternoon. It rained here most of yesterday.
Joe, thanks for making the coffee and the orange juice. I think I'll grab one of my cinnamon rolls before I leave the diner.
I was planning on shipping a care package to someone special later this afternoon, but last night while I was baking some oatmeal cookies I discovered that I had burned out the lower heating element in my oven. So I am now forced to put my plan on hold. Fortunately, I have a brother-in-law who knows how to go about replacing things like this, and he told me that he will drop in here later this afternoon to take a look at my oven's heating elements.

.....Weather is still a story here....64 degrees early this morning. That's mid Summer temps. Still very dry too. And....It's hot. high 80's yesterday and to continue for at least 6 or 7 more days...Might even see a bit of 90's.
Morning All
Yes, it is me.
I finally got a new computer yesterday and trying to learn to use all the new bells and whistles. I am not sure that new is better but it does look nicer. I do like the new 19" flat panel monitor. I don't like the new keyboard as it seems smaller and harder to type on.
I might get high speed now as I have been kicked off AOL dial up more times than I can count in the last 2 days. I was not happy with AOL high speed when I had it before so I might switch to Yahoo. Is AT&T and Yahoo the same service?
I wish our cook a speedy recovery. I hope all is going well with her.
I am off today and was on vacation the last week so it is back to work Thursday. For those who did not know I am a machinist's helper now. I have a few other irons in the fire and hoping for another promotion but that might be a while.
Last Friday was dad's birthday so I was in Missouri for that occasion. He is a WWII vet and is still alive and kicking (not as high as he used to tho). It is a blessing to have both parents alive and somewhat well as they both are in their mid to upper 80s.
Our weather is nice at night but still hot (upper 80s and lower 90s during the afternoon) but at least it is not lower or mid 80s for the low at night. Today it is suspose to be around 90.
On the way to Missouri I saw 2 wrecks both were Toyota pickups following too closely to the vehicles in front. Both small pickups had major damage to the front end while the other vehicles had no damage or very light damage.
There is a wrecker just across the street picking up a small car that was totaled in a front end accident. The hood was slightly creased and had a small dent and a headlight cracked. That was all the visible outside damage but my neighbor said there was damage to the radiator. It is amazing to me that such minor damage can now "total" a smaller new vehicle. Actually it is vary scary to me.
I guess I will drive my Ford Ranger another year. It is a '97 and has had no major problems.
I read recently that Amtrak ridership is up. It would be nice to see it grow and the government fund it to be a viable service. I would love to take an Amtrak vacation. Anyone want to go with me?
Well my coffee cup is empty so time for a Diet Coke.
Everyone have a great day.
Jim, Welcome back, very glad things are going well for you.
Just talked to CW, she was in the middle of having one of the therapists in the room helping with some exercises, said it HURTS, but..........
Joe don't know about her using a wheelchair to get out to the patio, but she will have a walker to use, she's already done a bit of walking in the room with the help of one.
She says HI! to everyone, was surprised and pleased to hear about our owner coming in.
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
....Jim: Good to see you back on here with the rest of us.
Good news of getting a new computer....That's always kinda fun, but new stuff takes getting used to too.
As for high speed internet, we used dial up here for years, but the wife finally put her "foot" down and it's now Comcast hi speed internet since last December and we're well pleased with it for the most part of it's operation. Don't know if that is avail. in your area.
I get almost "0" spam.....Absoutely almost nothing. Good security is included with it, and it is always receiving "updates", so overall...I can say we're well pleased with it and of course no comparison to speed of former dial up.
We too are having "hot" weather still up north here....Was just outside touching up some trimming to my extensive shrubs around the house and got pretty warm. That should do it for this season, as they will not grow much more now and look nice for the Winter time until next Spring when the trimming starts all over again....I created a monster....for me to take care of.
Walt: Glad it's seems to be going normal for Paula....and we wish for a speedy rehab and mending.
Mutt glad to hear paula is doing ok.going to be hurting for awhile.Jim glad to see you.I've seen alot of close calls on the road myself where people dont leave themselves an out.they have to change lanes every 5 minutes or less very scary.Jim if your email changes let us know.time to matt off the bus.
This is what I get for missing a day or two in the diner....sheesh!
Ray, a late to you! I hope it was a good one and that there's many good returns.
CW, I'll pray that everything gets back into gear for you quickly and as painlessly as possible.
Sorry that I've been away. Things at home and work have been uber busy. I should be around a bit more now.
Dan
Dan, thanks much for the birthday wishes, even though you are a few days late.
And it's good to see you back in the Diner.
Ray

It's good to be back. Hopefully I can stay around for a while!
I hope that everyone had a great day. I gotta get up at dark-thirty tomorrow...
Good night!
Me again stopping in between papers, problem sets and readings. Just got my new bike the other day so now i am spending all my spare time trying to find good spots within a short ride to take pictures of the Dinky (such a wierd name for a train, although it is kind of fitting after you see it). Anyway i guess since I'm going to be in here mooching food a lot(as college students do) and not doing all that much talking I will provide breakfeast tomorrow.
Lets see--
Buttermilk pancakes with your choice of
-strawberries
-blueberries
-whipped cream
-or good old canadian maple syrup
Oh waffles too with all the same sides and some eggs-hard boiled, sunny side up, scrambled or an omlet.
Oh what else to make.
Almost forgot lots of highly caffinated coffee to get everyone going on a wonderful Thursday morning. Plus a juice bar and milk for those(including me) who are living off the caffine grid for the present.
On the meat side we have bacon, sausage(spicy italian or regular) fried sliced ham and for anyone who wants to be real Jersey folk we will have bagels with cream cheese and lox.
Hope there is something here for everyone.
Dig in!
emmar-the cook without a kitchen
(the only thing thats nice about college food is that you don't have to make it and the only thing that sucks about college food is that someone else makes it)
Evening everyone.....
Well, the convoy on Saturday went well, save for some parking issues, but nothing we couldn't handle. Prelim numbers were that we had about 170 trucks, and stretched for about 8 miles down US41. Millis had about 10 trucks show up, not bad.
Been hauling the mail lately, have 43,000lbs of magazines and catalogs in the back right now, headed for Buffalo, then Newburgh, NY.
Going to sleep now, will try to check in before I hit the road tomorrow....
Happy belated B-day to Ray, would have said something sooner, but haven't been hooked up to IdleAire since Thursday night.
See everyone later.....

Brian (IA) http://blhanel.rrpicturearchives.net.
Grilled steak sounds mighty good to me, Brian. I'll put in my order for a steak done medium-rare.
Brian, steaks from the grill sound great; I'll put in an order for three, 2 med. well, and one well done. (that's for CW)
CW did call just a bit ago, said Dr. had been in looking everything over and said it was looking good, so;
she should be checking out around noon or a bit after and then be home reasonably soon after that. Mook, if she's not too tired, maybe she'll try to "shuffle" out to the garden.
//edit; emmar, thanks for breakfast this morning, I forgot to mention that earlier; been
just a little extra busy around here this morning.
Mook, CW may have to postpone the "shuffle" in the garden, we're not sure if she's going get "sprung" today now or not; seemingly they aren't even telling her anything right now.
(Something to do with another dr., I think.)
Of course you can go out and still try to ketch dah chicken.
afternoon
Mutt hope Cw gets sprung soon.someone say steak??? 2 med well and 1 well done for mamma.will toss a salad.just hope matt doesn't try to hit the ceiling when he tosses it.hey this week flew by so fast its friday tonight.
stay safejoe
I'll take a pound of whatever meat's hot. I'm hungry!
Mook: I've heard that if you put magnetic seed out on a plate and get a big magnet...
CW/Mutt: I hope that you get some answers to the situation. I'll continue to pray for ya.
Thanks for the breakfast emmar. It hit the spot this morning! You're hired...
In other news...
Had rescue #133 today. I decided to stop by the aquatics department so I could get some paperwork for an interdepartmental project started and stood on deck talking to the parents of a swim class. I'd had some of their kids in as students when I was working FT as a Head Lifeguard/Swim Instructor last year as 5 year olds so it was nice to catch up. One mom made the comment "Where did Benjamin go?" The pause in the air was thick and I had that sinking feeling in my gut. On a whim I looked at the bottom of the pool near the drop off. He was there and still struggling. Not thinking of my phone, wallet, shoes, etc I jumped in and pulled him out coughing and spitting up water and breakfast. The lifeguard was tending to a 1st aid situation at the other end of the pool and didn't notice. Now I'm glad I stopped by to get some paperwork done. He's fine and all ended well. I guess I can't stay retired as a lifeguard!
....Congratulations....! Sounds like a job well done...very well.

Way to go, Dan! I think that mom owes you a new phone, wallet, and shoes.
Oh, and here's a big juicy medium-rare for ya...
...and here's four medium-wells and two well-dones for Joe and Mutt et. al.
Anyone else?

Thanks Brian, but guess I'll have to deliver CW's to the Hospital; they decided to keep her another night and run another test or two on something indirectly due to the surgery.
Can't go into any details right now.
I understand Walt. I'll pray for both of you.
Thanks Brian. It's not about the 'stuff'. That's what replacement plans and dryers are for. That kid will live to see tomorrow, which is the important thing.
Back to cleaning the house...ugh.

Another "unsung hero". Well done, Dan!
When I was about four years old (I'm now 53), one of my big sisters lost sight of me in the wading pool at McKennan Park here in Sioux Falls. To this day I remember being underwater and the life guard pulling me out and forcing water out of my lungs. I don't know who the lifeguard was, but I could have been history. And I never got a chance to thank that lifeguard for his or her heroic action.
there is a reason why we are where we are sometimes.Great Job!!! you get the first scoop of ice cream for dessert with your pie.we have apple and cherry tonight.Mutt you and CW are in our prayers.
