, Ray!
And, in case for some reason I don't get back to the forum later today, God Bless you and your surgeons tomorrow, CW.
I'll take a burger or three, please...

TO ALL MY FORUM FAMILY:
Thank you for all your kind words and best wishes. Hopefully, whenever I do make it back here, I won't find this buried about 10 or more pages back!! I want you all to keep things going in here!!
So long, for now. . .

The Cook
31.5 here this morning. Worked on the railroad Saturday - fall colors are at about 30% and changing fast.
CW - see ya soon back here at the Diner - won't be the same without you. I might have to step up and cover a supper this week...
Rehung the daughter and son-in-laws front storm door today - tale about cheap construction (by the original builders - I only do quality home-handyman work.... )
On the way back from the railroad last night I was tooling along my usual route - a curvy, remote back road, but the shortest route - when what should appear crossing the road in front of me but mama black bear and three little ones. They hustled across the road, except the last little one. I stopped in plenty of time, but apparently the little one thought I was too close, turned back, and scaled a tree. I didn't wait around to see what mama would do.

....51.6 here this morning and the sun is about to come in my east window here. To be sunny and dry at least thru Sunday. Temps in the 80's....Even up to upper 80's at times. Fall {Late Summer}, can be real nice here, even Oct. But we'll see.....
Quentin
Ray - belated Happy Birthday.
CW - Best wishes!
Joe - mmmphmmffmm yummy......
Tree - You started by sounding like "Guido" - "I rehung".....stopped me in my tracks a minute.
We might be able to use you, tho - went out to the double stall garage to get Millie this morning and the neighbor's sport VW is in there with a totally smashed out back window. Someone did some batting practice on it while it was out somewhere. Driver reassured me that it wasn't done in the garage. The car was ok Sunday afternoon, so sometime after that. A real wake-up call when you aren't quite awake yet for the day!
I checked on the Joe's Sloppies - they are delicious. I hope there is enough left for lunch...
Off to find trouble....
She who has no signature! cinscocom-tmw
// Trouble passes through, refills gatorjuice jug. Heads out to start survey for new 12 track SIT yard in NE Colorado, well behind asparagus barricade. BNSF Boise City sub was just nuts last night while we drove beside it. Five trains between Las Animas and La Junta in 20 minutes.
BossHen has talons crossed for CW (She may be next)...
Hanging out in Nags Head today. Probably go over to Kitty Hawk and check out Orville and Wilbur's digs. If you want to see how much air travel has advanced in the intervening years check this out. http://comics.com/wash/opus/index.html (look for the Sunday version)
Train travel can have its moments. Walked outside to kill a little time waiting for my checked bags to get into Washington Union Station and the alarms went off. Evacuation and lock down lasted about 10 minutes. Don't know if it was an "unattended" bag or what, but obviously there was no problem. A worker in the station told me "it" happens about every three or four months.
The AC on the east end told me that their westbound trip on the Capitol Limited the night before had more than just a little incident. A ways out of Cumberland, some braindead clown decided to use the ditch lights for target practise. Got the windshield on the locomotive too. The AC said he learned some new curse words from the engineer. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
All the best wishes to CW for a fast recovery.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Mookie. Now, if I may ask, WHEN IS YOUR BIRTHDAY??
Since Cherokee Woman is going to be out of action for a while, I think I may at least show up in the Diner tomorrow with a pan of my cinnamon rolls, fresh from the oven and still warm!

Joe, I think CW would tell you to send some of that her way, especially since she
couldn't have anything after midnight. (when I left, she had gotten some crackers
and Sprite) She's doing fine, (albeit somewhat groggy) seems to be in good spirits.
She did say; that after she "heals" and has the therapy, etc. she is going to be
practicing kicks a bit more often, so certain people should beware.
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
Hello Everybody ! It certainly has been quite a while since I've last visited. CSX surely has been keeping me busy lately.
Well it seems as though someone had a B-day yesterday.. Ray happy belated B-day hope it was a speacial one for you!!! Hopefully, u didn't eat too much cake.
I am sorry to hear of the absence of the dinner's great cook. BUT I am glad to hear that her surgry (sp) went well; glad to hear that CW is doing well!!! Way to go
WELL........I guess the new sign in the kitchen will read "DON'T miff the cook, or else foot will be applyed to butt" hehehehe
I for one, am glad to hear that Cherokee Woman came through her knee surgery O.K. Judging from my own experience, the first 24 hours after any kind of an operation are the most critical. In April of 2002 I had surgery to correct a hernia and I really got sick coming off the anestetic (not sure of the spelling on that). Fortunately I had one of my sisters looking after me at her house. I hope the same does not happen to CW. My prayers are with her!
Y6bs evergreen in my mind
CW again sends her thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers.
She did however say; that the "Diner" had better be clean, or she's going to find
out who's responsible for ANY messes, and she's going to "kick" them!!
(just make sure she doesn't take a "level swing"!)
....Walt, very good to hear it all went well for Paula. We'll add a bit to prayers for good recovery and healing.
// Living in a time warp.....
Had a bright orange Porter 45 Tonner with siderods working around me all day. Rev's up like a bulldozer and comes with a cowcatcher. The critter/diesel mouse is at least 10 years older than me, probably more. Pristine condition, fairly purrs - even under load. Shares the enginehouse with a Davenport/Whitcomb RS4TC...
It looks like I am the first one in here this morning. I've got the coffee brewing and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice. I got up early enought to bake two pans of cinnamon rolls, and I have left both pans on the counter here with plenty of soft, spreadable butter.
I am thinking it will be at least a week before Paula is back in the Diner, and I would imagine that she will be undergoing some physical therapy for her new knee. I for one was glad to hear that she came through this operation O.K.
Sir Muddy: At least 10 years older, purrs, pristine condition (sort of) - maybe you should nickname it Mookie?
CW - you go girl!
Sarah - welcome back. Send more CSX this way! We need something new to look at for awhile!
Q....had 3 people scurrying around trying to find out where Ball State is - we play them this weekend here in Lincoln. I didn't have a clue and seems I wasn't alone! (I just found Wake Forest the other day!)
Anyway - we found it in Muncie! Probably been there the whole time and no one bothered to look!
Off to hammock. Short nite. Will require several naps throughout day. Hope I can sleep thinking of poor chicken working/slaving away in them 'ol cotton fields of home! Yeah right!

Ray, unless she borrows a laptop, it will probably be longer than that before she can sit at the computer desk. [with one leg sticking "straight out", methinks she'll have a problem.]
They were going to get her up this morning and sort of start therapy on that leg/knee.
Thanks for those rolls, think I'll have a couple of them along with a BIG mug of coffee before I get going this morning.
"Chicken in the Enginehouse pickin' out those"; how about a least 10 years older than me?!
(and I know how much difference there is between ages!)
Pictures of those critters would be very nice and appreciated. And tell Boss Hen if she needs the surgery, go for it! After CW gets the other one done (whenever, eventually) I probably am going to HAVE one done myself. (joy of joys!)
Mook,Answering machines, Voice Mail?!
(and quit "hogging" the hammock.....the dog had a long day and night also!)

Supper sounds real good, maybe I should take some in to CW later. (I KNOW it's much better than what she'll get There!)
SUE the MAN upstairs?!?! Watch for lightning bolts, I'm staying away!!!!!
(this person HAS to be 7 cans shy of a six pack!!)
Of all the good things Nebraska should be known for - why does it always come down to someone who has a seat in our legislature and makes it his full time job to always make silly headlines.
We will always look like country bumpkins with people like him in public office! Fortunately it will end pretty soon and not a minute too soon for my part!
Mook
afternoon
mutt hope Cw is feeling better.hope everyone liked the ham sandwhiches.the chicken and rice should be done soon enough for mookie to have a takeout order.matthew has been working on the layouts.thomas is on track 1 and james and edward are doubleheading a freight on track 2.
Nebraska Blackshirts= country bumpkins?
Naw, I don't think so.....

I'll take some casserole, mild.
I'll get tomorrow's lunch started now - a big pot of my famous "crock pot" chili. Extra seasonings will be available on the side. It'll simmer all night and the diner will smell, well, like chili in the morning! We won't discuss what it might smell like after lunch....
Lots of French and Italian bread, too.
Tums are at the end of the counter....
Having pork chops a'la Ed...fried chops buried in mushrooms, with brazed onions, bell peppers and garlic.
Steamed green beans, white rice dusted with paprika, and for dessert, pear halves with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.,
....J: It is a pretty nice campus. Roughly 18,000 students, and lots and lots of brand new buildings that have been constructed in the past decade. The school goes back into the last century's 'teens or twenties.
In fact, we just had a big doings the weekend before last....
This is Dave Letterman's home Alma Maltre.....and as stated above {the doings}, a brand new 21 million dollar Communication / Media Building was dedicated.....with his name on it...!! It is state of the art for AM....FM stations....and Recording studios, etc...and of course class rooms for such study.
A gathering of thousands were in attendance....including his Mom on stage with him. 21 people in his entourage landed at Muncie in 2 airplanes for the visit. It was quite a weekend for the University.
Muncie StarPress reported Dave left a 7 figure check to President Jo Ann Gora before he departed.
It is known he has been a great supporter of the school for years.
Stedman {Oprah's friend}, attended Ball State too....
Dave's remarks at the ceremony were very touching at times....a bit out of his element....Very touching. He called out a retired Professor in the audience "If it would not have been for {his name}, I would not have made it.....I owe it all to him turning me in the right direction"....or words similar to the effect. He was so honored and mentioned he hopes his dad {who died very young...57}, was looking down on him now as he would be so very proud....Quite a touching moment.
Yes....Ball State is a rather fine University....and President Jo Ann Gora seems to get pretty high marks in her position. She's been here just a few years now.....
The name comes from the original "Ball Brothers".....of the famous glass canning jars.....Factory was here for years and years. That's all changed around quite a bit now. Product has changed and they now are headquartered in Colorado. Some of the remnants of the Ball jar and lid mfg. is still here.
Our 1st class hospital also carries the "Ball" name.
ED ; We will have some of that Delicious supper you got on the stove . Good to be functioning here at the Junction after a long ride this month. Been busy catchin' up . ~~~ white rice w/ dusty paprika AHHHH.
Quentin ; good to hear Ball Memorial is still there . Second Son born there in 1957 ~~~~ OOOH over stuffed on supper , gonna go lay down and grunt a while . Thanks Ed. Respectfully , Cannonball
