...Right on CW....Although it does look better outside now...I can see our street light and it appears to have slacked off on the snow as it's supposed to this evening.  But the threat is there for 4 or 5 more inches of the stuff before it all moves on east out of here during the night.

Must be 12 or 14" of the stuff now and we're not able to go anywhere.

Nor do we want to.  Hopefully we'll get the drive way plowed out sometime tomorrow.  Have nice trimmed shrubs around the back side of the house and they are covered and that extends out into the back yard like that is the yard level.  Can't hardly tell there are any shrubs there.

Our county is one of the 5 declared emergency conditions and only emergency travel allowed.

Another factor that doesn't play well with this much snow is the 40 mph gusts to occur tonight before it ends.

Yes, as long as the power stays on we'll be cozy...Total electric.  Shouldn't be any problem as the sleet and ice was from Indy south.

15.6 degrees now.

Don't worry.  Eat all you want.  I baked about four dozen of them. (Had them hidden in the ovens, surrounded by the cookies.)

Emmar, we did do a lot of cookie baking this afternoon, didn't we?  Those cookies really taste great, with the chocolate mint in them!  You can come in anytime, and help me with baking cookies, or baking anything else.  Enjoyed your company in the DD/CS kitchen!!

For supper tonight, we have:  Italian spaghetti w/meat sauce, garlic Texas toast or garlic bread sticks, garden or Caesar salad, and plenty of chocolate chip mint cookies for dessert.

Just heard on our local weather report, that blizzard conditions are now north of Indianapolis.  Looks like modelcar may be cozy warm in his home tonight.  How are conditions elsewhere in this storm's path?  For our immediate area, around 8, 9:00, the rain will be turning to sleet, ice and snow around midnight or so.

Everyone take care, and be extra careful, if you HAVE to get out in that mess of snow.

Brian and Chris, of course you can join us!  Plenty to talk about, especially with UP 7605 reportedly headed west tomorrow.  That's a paint scheme to die for (familiar to folks who have seen a GE demonstrator lately).

However, the kitten has probably left the garden, and so must I--tax time.  The news this year is better than last, fortunately.

Willy...........It started about midnight last night and seems did so all night.  Today, since daylight, we've had steady heavy snow and up to 30 mph winds gusting from the east.  Hard to determine just how much we've received, but I went out to the mail box a while ago and took along a ruler and it showed to be better that 7" at that time and no relief until late this evening {as forecast}, and then it should start to slack off a bit and start to trail on out east.  We probably will see upwards of a foot of the stuff here...At least no ice and sleet which they got 50 miles south of us before the snow started.

Saw on the news awhile ago a big water main burst in the street down in Indianapolis....What a mess....

This is a big one...no doubt about it.  We'll not be getting away from our home {nor do we care to}, until we have the 70' drive way plowed sometime tomorrow after the major part of the snow has passed us by...

So...Willy, it's a bit past starting here...we're probably in the midst of the system now.  I really haven't taken a peak at the radar for several hours so after I push the post button here I better take a look.

And what better to listen to at a garden party than "Garden Party" by Ricky Nelson. Thumbs Up [tup]

By the way, Quentin: The NWS in Indianapolis says they already have a report of 11 inches of snow from Muncie. I checked out the radar for your area and it doesn't look like it's going to end for a looooong time, so stay safe and warm!

Carl, nice to see you in.  Like the others who have been misssing (and a couple still are), don't be a stranger.

The weather "people" say that when this cold front comes our way later this afternoon, this rain will turn to snow and ice.  And I'm thinking they're talking about mostly ICE.  Since it is raining, they can't pretreat the streets around here with the brine solution, because the rain will just wash it away.  Since our street is a state highway link, we've not seen any of the brine trucks.   All we see are the regular salt trucks.

Mookie, glad to see that you made it in all right.  Thumbs Up [tup]

On the warmer bar, you'll find Carl's (Pat's) Soup, along with some cream of potato, tomato, vegetable and cream of broccoli soups.  There are also grilled cheese sandwiches, "fried" bologna sandwiches, and some tuna salad sandwiches.  In the cooler, you'll find:  Caesar  and garden salad, fruit salad, grape Jell-O w/fruit cocktail in it.

If none of that suits anyone's appetite, I'll fix you a burger and fries.

....The dreaded winter weather system is here and doing it's thing.  Started about 12:30 last night and snowed during the night and basically looks like it will continue all day today and into the evening and supposedly then taper off during late night and begin to tail off to the east.

We are one of 5 Indiana counties under an emergency alert..{stay off roads unless an emergency}, this being Delaware Co.

Very low visibility now....with the strong east wind pounding us.  Must be 5 to 6" of the stuff added to us by now and seems if it continues as forecast we'll get that foot or more before it starts tailing off....

22.8 degrees now as we type....and almost a white out.   Very heavy snow fall now.  The kind that adds up.

Enjoy the day all....Hope all can be safe if in any part of this massive system.  But this too, will pass....Hopefully.

It's often hard for me to tell just exactly how much snow we've gotten until I have actually stepped out in it. I have roughly a half an inch of snow on my front deck, but our local news paper, the "Argus Liar" (I could call them worse names than this) says that we got better than 2 inches last night. So go figure.

What a beautiful day!  The birds are chirping up a storm.  Literally.  Well, okay, maybe "storm" is an exaggeration, but it does look like we will get some more rain today.  And as they say, "February showers bring March flowers"!

Bob - looked you up - you are practically our neighbor!  I am getting so I think of travel from here to Chicago and all points in-between (Cedar Rapids) as being our neighbors.  My world has shrunk considerably since I have been on the forum!  (Just not quite to New York yet!)

Snow and Ice should be a normal winter for you! But like our city - they drive like they are all late to something!

Well, just breezed into the diner!  We got snow overnite - about 5-6 inches, but unlike wimpy Omaha which is about 50 north and east of us - we kept everything open - including the 24 hour fast food places!

I came in a little later since had to get up at regular time and then get the remote snowblower out of bed at his regular time.  Our pod faces north so the garage had big drifts in front of it.  He spent about an hour getting just the driveway and walks done.

I love that - I push a button and voila.....my snow is shoveled.  Where was he when I was single and lived in a rental on a corner lot and owned a cheap snowshovel!

Tree - I like your pictures.  Makes me feel right at home.  Pictures of San Diego would make me really feel much better, tho!

Anyway - I will snitch a chocolate chip cookie that I think Joe hid away for me.  Brother Carl!  Glad to see your smiling face was in da diner!  Next time, we will get coffee and sit on the back porch and sniff the garden.  It is always nice weather here in the diner.  Plus, since I buried something out in the garden last Xmas, it smells much better!  Evil [}:)]

Beware east of New-brass-key - it ain't gonna be pretty!

I got out of bed a little better than a half an hour ago, and right now I am guessing that we have about 2 inches of fresh snow on the ground, it could be a bit less than that. Right now we have a temperature of 3 degrees above 0, and with the wind out of the north at 9 mph, this leaves us with a wind chill factor of 11 below 0. I guess we are back in the deep freeze once again. I would almost rather stay home in the warmth of my house than to try to go anywhere today, but the reality is I can not afford not to go to work, both in terms of income and what my new employer and co-workers will end up thinking of me. In other words, my reputation here is at stake.

I also turned out a batch of molasses/sugar cookies last night, and being a bit tired, I forgot to set my timer and almost burned the last dozen cookies......they still make good coffee dunkers.
