.....Just make sure the fish is not from China....!

Jean and I purchased some fish at our big box store, Meijer's yesterday and later noted on the package it's from China.  This morning it went back to the store for a refund...No questions ask.

Good Saturday morning, to one and all.  Joe, thanks for starting the coffee, and making the juice, and lemonade.  Also, thank you for the fresh cinnamon rolls!  They're really nice to have on a Saturday morning.  We have plenty, because that's what I brought in this morning, also.

Hope everyone has a great day, and I'll see you all back in here tonight, for our SATURDAY NIGHT PIZZA FEST.

Larry, believe it or not, I'm not really having any trouble sitting down.  I remember nothing:  they gave me some great pain medication before.  If I remember correctly, one was Darvon, and I'd never heard of the other pain med, so I can't remember that name.

On the breakfast bar this morning:  doughnuts (all shapes, sizes, creamed filled, vanilla filled, etc., muffins (strawberry, blueberry, apple-raisin), and bear claws.

Everyone have a good Friday, and if you're getting rain showers, be careful out there!!

I think you got a nice cocktail of drugs , I usually get demerol and versed, trouble is I do remember it AND usually giving the doctor performing the procedure advice while he's doing it . They like to keep you at the hospital until the drugs wear off a bit but for a while the deputy from the emergency room would handcuff me to the bed because I went to get a soda one time... I walked home ..I didn't remember that I brought my car ..

Good evening.

Yesterday evening I went to see Gordon Lightfoot with my parents. His voice certainly is not as strong as it used to be. However, considering that just a few years ago he was close to death, I think he's doing pretty good. The concert was sold out and it was excellent. I would have to say that my favorite Gordon Lightfoot songs are "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and "If you Could Read my Mind". Just teriffic music.

Not much else happening. Hope everyone has a good evening!

Willy, you and your folks are extremely fortunate to have been able to see Gordon Lightfoot and his band perform in Omaha. I am envious of you! I have been listening to Gordon's music since I was in high school (I graduated in 1974), and I can tell you right now that there are very few musicians who can even hold a candle to this gentleman's talent. I have acquired most of Lightfoot's albums down through the years, and I may have all of them except for maybe a couple of his very earliest. In 1979 I went to Calgary, Alberta, Canada for a convention with the National Model Railroad Association, and I was motivated in part to make that trip by the music of Gordon Lightfoot. If it were not for Gordon Lightfoot, I may never have gone up into Canada and I may never have developed such a strong interest in the Canadian Pacific Railway.

To the best of my knowledge, Lightfoot has never performed up here in Sioux Falls, and so I am trying to get the Washington Pavilion here in downtown Sioux Falls to bring him into town for a couple concerts. How long Gordon Lightfoot will be able to continue performing, God only knows. Lightfoot will be 69 years old on the 17th of November, and I have a Canadian flag which I plan to fly on his birthday!

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Joe and Bob, thank you so very much for getting breakfast ready this morning!  I just can't seem to get going this morning.  Feeling a little bit under the weather this morning, for some strange reason.  Just hit me, all at once.  Think it's sinus drainage.  But I will get through the day!!

For our Sunday Dinner, at around 1 p.m EDT, you will have your choices of:

1.  Fried Chicken w/mashed taters, gravy, homemade buttermilk biscuits, green beans, corn on the cob, cole slaw.

2.  Meat loaf, green beans w/onions and potatoes cooked together, corn on the cob and creamed corn.

3.  Pork chop abracadadbra w/your choice of potatoes, savory herb stuffing, broccoli w/cheese sauce and garden salad.

Everyone have a great day, and enjoy the trains, or whatever else you decide to do today!

Good Morning!

It's a very beautiful morning here in Omaha. It looks like it's going to get hot again for July 4th, though.

Did some train watching yesterday. I saw four trains, but there was nothing special about any of those trains. Just coal and grain.

Well, I think I'll go investigate what's happening in the rest of the forum. TTFN.

Joe, already got plates made for you and Lance, to take to work tonight!!  And, you know me:  there's plenty of everything for everyone!

And yes, I have enough hamburger, steaks, pork chops, country style ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, and everything else we'll need for our 4TH OF JULY/INDEPENDENCE DAY PICNIC!!  Everybody will probably be sick of the fare, by the time Friday night rolls around.Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]

Howdy doody all!  Just got back from an unintended railfanning trip.  I was headed out to fish when I heard the sound of some EMD's working hard and headed near the tracks by the 1899 bridge in town.  Sure enough a pair of SD40-3's came rumbling by headed north.  So then I said "Self-lets head to Neenah.  I have a feeling it'd be worth it."

It was.  I got about 10-12 different roster type shots of engines (my favorite railfanning thing to get!), saw about 6 or 7 trains and met a couple of locals that I didn't know.  All in all a neat day!  My shots should be up perhaps on my website or on www.locophotos.com later today or tomorrow.  On Locophotos search  by photog: Braun, Dan.

I'll sit in the shade for a while and count coup...what a surprisingly nice day!

Heading out until after the 4th I reckon. Highways were VERY crowded today here in the Northeast despite $3+ gas...

Well I'm disappointed this evening! The Space Shuttle Atlantis flew into Omaha on top of a 747 this afternoon and hardly anybody had any idea that it was coming in due to security concerns. What really makes me mad is that our house is directly under the usual flight path for planes coming into Omaha/Offutt when winds are out of the south, which they were today. I guess I just didn't happen to be outside at the right time. I usually hear the planes coming in, but hardly ever look out the window at them, so for all I know I might have heard the 747 but paid no attention. And of course this is a once in a lifetime experience since the space shuttles are going to be retired over the next couple of years and it's extremely rare that they come into Omaha for fuel anyway. In fact, the last time this happened was in 1985. I just can't believe it!

That was my rant for the day. Otherwise it was a decent day so I shouldn't complain too much.

I guess I'm the only person to notice that we have a new visitor to the Diner. Welcome to the Diner, Trainhooked! Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

Grumble, grumble - they updated my puter over the weekend and had to come in a back window to get in here!

Randy!  Cheap drunk!  I was given demerol one time many years ago - and boy can I see how you could easily get hooked on drugs!  That was very nice!

Well - how much wood can a woodchuck chuck?  I asked, but he didn't say a word.  So we will never know.  But he saw his shadow and it didn't scare him as much as seeing us did!

I don't think we are known for our woodchucks or groundhogs - altho we do have Unadilla Bill here for Feb 2.  We saw a real one yesterday.  He/she was there watching trains with us.  Very nice looking specimen, too!

So that makes one rabbit, one fox, one turkey, two kestrels, one woodchuck and numerous pigeons, blackbirds, sparrows and one driver that I have seen.  Busy watch site!

Off to terrorize the forum!  Driver on vacation this week - he is terrorizing the fish!

Good Monday morning!  FINALLY able to get in the door!!  I was trying to get in at 6:15 EDT, and could not get the doors open!!  Just about broke both hands trying to get in here, to no avail.  Joe and Mookie, so glad you all were able to make it in!

To go along with the coffee, juice and lemonade, on the breakfast bar, you will find:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, cantaloupe, watermelon, strawberries and blueberries.

I'm going to make this REQUEST WHATEVER YOU WANT TO EAT FOR LUNCH AND SUPPER.  So, just let me know what you want to eat, and I'll fix it right up!!  And don't be shy.  If I don't know how to fix it, I'll quickly get the recipe and directions, and whip it up for ya!!
