I'll have one of everything, and two of a couple of them. Good thing it's all virtual or I'd really be suffering later...
Nearly 400 people celebrated the 4th by riding along for our "Train Robberies" today. All in all, things went pretty well - it was kind of nice just to sit back and check out the landscape. We had plenty of car hosts, and once we got rolling, the cast of the robberies pretty much ran the show.
I don't know if the fireworks on the river got cancelled tonight, but my ride (a local fire boat) did, so I'm enjoying a restful evening in.
Hope everyone had a pleasant day.

Well, this has certainly been an interesting 4th of July for us! Apparently, some of the neighborhood kids setting off fireworks ignited a gas leak from a main under the street. So, talk about possible fireworks!! We've had a fire department squirt apparatus, plus several police cars, and several gas & electric company vehicles out in front of our house, since about 9:30.
At 10:35, a fire captain rang the doorbell, telling us to evacuate and go around the corner to the funeral home (like they were really expecting something bad to happen!!) They even called a metro bus for us to sit in, since they were expecitng thunderstorms to roll in. Which they now have, after we've been back home about a half hour now.
So breakfast may be late in the morning; I'll probably be sleeping in. So everybody can help themselves to any of the leftovers from the cookout, or whatever else you can find.
morning

I've seen that paw print somewhere before, like on a mug of coffee. I think I won't mess with that container! Morning everyone! I love these short, 2 day workweeks, LOL!

I am glad that your house did not go up in flames last night, CW. We should never underestimate the destructive potential of fireworks. A couple days ago here in Sioux Falls there was an 18-year old kid who ended up in the hospital after he had climbed into his car and accidently set fire to the stash of fireworks he had in his car. From what I've heard, he was pretty badly burned and the car is a total loss.
Sioux Falls is surrounded on three sides by the Big Sioux River and there was a big fireworks show down at Falls Park, just north of me last night. I lit a few fire crackers and a few bottle rockets when I got home from a cookout at my sister's house last night, but was much too tired to do much of anything, so I was in bed by 11:00 PM.

Good Thursday morning, everyone. Hope everyone had a Happy and Safe 4th!! Joe and Ray, thanks for your best wishes. Had just gone to sleep, about 1:15 this morning, when I heard the jackhammer out front. Didn't keep me awake, though. Turned over, and went right back to sleep.
Woke up at 8:11, looked out, and all g&e vehicles gone!!
Joe, thanks for making the coffee, juice, etc., this morning, and making the cinnamon rolls. I'm very glad, that we didn't have a gas BOOM last night. You know the old saying about feeling like you've been run over by a semi? That's about how I feel this morning. Everyone have a good morning, and see you later on.
Huh? What? ^?
(Illegal fireworks until 1 am)...

The Harrah's Casino fireworks last night were excellent. They put on a 20 or 25 minute show that is synchronized to music. I never listen to the music on the radio though, I'd rather just hear those fireworks exploding! There's another show tonight that was good last year, so I'll probably try to see it again this year.
Hot and humid weather continues here in Omaha. Mid to upper 90s expected this weekend with no rain until Monday at the earliest.
CW - glad to hear that your entire neighborhood didn't go up in flames!
Willy
Lunch is now on the warmer bar: leftover burgers, hot dogs, steaks, and hot sides, and in the cooler the cold sides.
Got plenty of cake (chocolate and the patriotic cake from yesterday for dessert today.
Now to get ready for another doctor appointment: orthopedist this time. See you all later on, probably around 5 or so.

Hi Joe, Got the pic you e-mailed, thanks, and thanks for the heads up.
chad
not a problem.hope everything on it got fixed.
To All, Thanks for the concerns, we all are very glad we didn't have an extra Fireworks Show right here. Apparently that gas main had been seeping/leaking for awhile, and it took the neighborhood kids (and adults) with fireworks to set it off.
(at least it was just a flame, and not a BOOM!!)
For one member of the household, that this is their very first 4th of July here, asked how the day was, and she just said: "Very Interesting"!!
We didn't have much of a choice in evacuating the house, since they used our front fence for the "Perimeter Tape"; that put us in the "Hot Zone"!!(stretched from our fence to across the street)
(Mookie, they wanted us to get out in a hurry, Winter went with us, but Sweetie decided to hide so we couldn't get her.)
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
Joe, have containers made up and in the fridge for you and Lance for tonight.
You all did a pretty good job at lunchtime, cleaning up the leftovers from last night.
So for supper tonight, you will find on the warmer bar: THURSDAY EDITION OF PIZZA FEST. Canadian bacon, cheese, anchovie, Hawaiian, supreme and pepperoni/sausage/mushroom.
Okay, here is the doctor report: I have to have knee replacement surgery on both knees. The doctor did not say if he was going to do both together, but I would imagine that is how it'll be done: one frist, then after awhile, the other one replaced. We don't know when the surgery will be yet. I need to contact the insurance, and make sure they will approve the surgery; then get back with the doctor. He's basically leaving the when, etc., up to me (he did say though, not to wait until I was in a wheelchair, to decide to have the surgery.) I'm kind of thinking around the end of September, when it'll be cooler.
You all have a good evening, and I think I'm gonna go try to take a short nap.
CW - Sorry to hear about the need for a knee replacement. I'll be praying that everything goes well with that, whenever you decide to have the surgery.
Well, I missed three of the Union Pacific Heritage Units when they came through today, but I guess they will be coming back sometime in the next few days to spend some time in front of the Durham Western Heritage Museum in downtown Omaha. I'm anxiously waiting to see them and take some photos!

When my wife hears about this, she will be INSTANTLY JEALOUS. As you may remember, she had orthoscopic knee surgery a little over a month ago on her right knee, and the same back in October on her left knee. The surgeries have done little to alleviate her pain. She's been told by the most recent Orthopedic surgeon to see her that she's too young for knee replacement.
Did you ever try the jell injections? We've heard mixed reviews on them...
Quentin; My son Sam told me that Kingman airport has been sold as of 2yrs. ago . The graves of all the planes are still visable from the roadway. This is all private property now. But you can see the humps in rows . Sometimes with bino's one can see bits of metal stickin' out .As for Litchfield Park~~ The land belongs to USAF ( part of Luke field ) There is really a lot of history from WWII at both places if you care to hunt for it . If you are really interested I would be glad to help. Both our sons were in the royal yacht club ( Navy ) They could help with info also. Respectfully, Cannonball

Good Friday morning, everyone. Well, another week is rolling to a close. Hope everyone had a pleasant evening last night, and best wishes for a good day today to everyone.
Coffee is ready, fresh juices are made, and there's iced tea and lemonade. There is about 4 dozen doughnuts on the counter, as you can see everything from glazed doughnuts to chocolate covered, cream filled longjohns, along with bagels and bear claws.
It looks like it's going to be another very warm day all over the country. We're to get to 88 today, but back in the low 90s tomorrow through next week. Ah, summertime.
Yeah, Cannonball, just when you think things are maybe getting better, something else hits you in the face. I knew, in my heart, that I'd eventually have to have knee replacement surgery, but when you hear that's it's going to happen sooner than you figured, it is still kind of a shock, after being told that I was "too young" for the last two years, and they wouldn't even send me to an orthopedist.
I did tell the doctor what that "nurse practicioner" told me two years ago, and he said, "She doesn't know what she's talking about"! That put my first opinion of him up a notch, believe you me.
Everyone have a good morning, enjoy your breakfast, and I'll be back in later to start our FRIDAY FISH FRY.
v~v - just hangin' around.
CW - wow - both knees! But if it gives you long term relief, then it will be worth the surgery!
Mutt - I kind of figured she would do that. Fortunately we never had an emergency, but I know we would have never found Mookie. She could hide in plain sight and if there was a commotion, she had some great hiding places. One was behind a drawer in a dresser....
Willy - so many trains, so little time. And while I have you here, I know it supposed to cool off next week, but is this horrible humidity going to continue even with the cool? Gah....(place fingers around throat while saying this...)
I am just now recovering from having the 4th off and now I am out of here early today. I will never get caught up! And that doesn't even include my work....
Off to see what the rest of the forum is doing.
Happy weekend! Driver's birthday is Sat - hope he wakes up for it and hope he likes his gift from me - he gets to take me train watching in the heat! Who wouldn't like that!
Oh yes - someone reminded me that my list of animals around the watch site should be:
1 turkey, 1 fox, 1-2 kestral(s), 1 woodchuck (groundhog, whistlepig), numerous pigeons, 1 driver and a most important ingredient in this wildlife recipe - 1 MUDCHICKEN!
0 asparagus!
Bye...
Mookie, wish "Driver" a Very Happy Birthday from here! Hope he likes his present!!
(what's a "Whistlepig"?)

(Grabs two cream-filled longjohn doughnuts )
(Makes tall glass of iced tea--it's hot in Sacramento, CA! )
Driver Duuuude!!
