.....Wild looking sky Ed.....Good shots.

M C:  A   17.....24.....and a 25....Wow, three rare ones at one place.

We've had all three of those models in here at our Muncie airport within the past decade.  A couple of 51's too, and Corsairs, and the more I think about it, even a few more....  Saw a 17 and a 24 {Liberator}, following right behind it pass over our crowd waiting for them at our airport some years ago, and only a couple hundred ft. high before they came around and landed.

Knew the 24's were getting rare but wasn't aware we were down to just one flyable....I've heard they were a little difficult to fly.

All of them were good enough to do the job in WWII though, as we did happened to win that one....!

I think the Confederate Air Force has a 24, I know they have a 17...and a P 38 Lightning too!

Plus they were working on a Zero last time I talked to them...

Don't know about a Corsair...but would love to see a Thunderbolt fly again.

They were buzzing North Yard a few weeks ago, had the annual Air Show out at Ellington Field, mock dog fight and a few bomber runs...North Yard is on the approach from the west...kinda eerie and rather nerve racking to have a bomber that big, and that loud fly over you at a few hundred feet, and open its bomb bay doors...

Those old aircraft are a sight to behold - on the ground or in the air.  Had a PBY fly over the house a few years ago.  Could tell right away it was something out of the ordinary.  There are some Japanese aircraft that have passed this area several times - not sure what they are, but to see a group of them in formation is something else.

Was at Langley AFB a few years ago for an air show - it was neat seeing not only the vintage prop stuff (the P38 sounded nice), but there were several vintage jets flying, including the "shiny chrome plated stovepipe"  F104 (although this one was painted powder blue, IIRC).

The F117 that crashed a week later in Maryland was there, too.

One highlight of the show was an F15 flying in formation with an F51 (a P51 built later).  Talk about a speed mismatch - I'm sure the F15 was hanging around stall speed while the 51 was pure hustle to keep up.

Of course, I've seen a few now "vintage" aircraft flying in regular service, too.....

Great pics, Ed!!  Do we need to send you all a boat, to get around, or are you all "dry"?

Supper tonight will be a Mexican Fiesta:  tacos, beef burritos enchilada style, Spanish rice, tortillas with your choice of salsa or con caso, tamales, etc.

Didn't make it to Kroger for a grill:  Mutt and I went out in the front yard, and did trimming.  Maybe I'll make it up there in the morning.

You all enjoy your Mexican Fiesta tonight, and take care!!

NICE SHOTS Ed!!!!!

I'm VERY sure you all would like to get rid of that rain, please send some our way, but not so much.

I've seen a B-17 and a P-38 at our Thunder Over Louisville Airshow, but don't think I've seen the others.  They are a sight to behold.

Got hung up on the aircraft and forgot the pictures - impressive, to say the least.  Wish I'd been more weather wise (although I was working in the weather field at the time, albeit as an electronics technician) while I was in the Air Force at Tinker.  Still, I did see some pretty impressive stuff.

We're forecast for scattered T-Storms on the 4th - I love working the trains in the rain (not) - and up to a half inch of rain.  Hopefully the fireworks won't get washed out.

Cool shots Ed!  Both sky and planes.  Have you seen a Bf-109?  -51's are nice but I like the lines of the -109's.

The muesuem in Galveston has both a P-47 Thunderbolt and an Messerschmitt 109...the 109 looks faster and a little more sleek...but the Jug looks exactally like what you would want it to...a big machine gun with wings.

The P 47 is big, and I mean big for its time...the 109 looks slim and sleek, but the sheer size of the 47 is impressive.

I would love to see one of these in the air!

Well, gotta go to work tomorrow, don't know if we will be getting a early quit or making the hogs, depends on how many customers want work...still big money time!

So, all of you be safe, don't drink and drive, and if you do drink, have a designated driver who dosen't...

Stay safe, and come home in the same shape you left in...

Happy 4th you guys, remember whats it is really about.

"Nothin' fancy, but it'll kick some tail"

was how my grandfather described his 47.  Warbirds of almost any vintage are cool!  We have EAA coming up at the end of the month.  If anyone wants shots of anything specific, just let me know and I'll do what I can to get them.  I love doing that kind of stuff.  Like if anyone is interested in any road's cars/engines and wants photos-if I see one I'll shoot it for ya!  Cool [8D]

I hit the big EAA convention a couple of times back in the late 70s- had some friends who were private pilots.  I even saw John Denver fly in to one.  Memories, memories...

Good Wednesday morning, and HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!!!!!

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Ted Marshall!  Hope you return to the Diner more often!  (No hair in the food around here:  wear hair nets or caps to keep hair out of food.  And everybody washes their hands very, very often!

Coffee, juice, tea, lemonade and ready and waiting for you.

On the breakfast bar, you will find cinnamon rolls, muffins in red, white and blue, along with doughnuts, danish and bear claws.  Each item on the menu this morning has a little American Flag in their center.

Let all of us today remember why we celebrate Independence Day!  Remember our Founding Fathers, and all the others who fought the fight for our Independence!!

Here's a sneak peak at what you'll have to eat later on today:  American potato salad, steaks, hot dogs, corn on the cob.  Maybe some country back bone pork ribs (they have lots of meat on them!) potato chips, and everything else we can think of, to celebrate our Country's bithday!!!

Everyone have a safe morning, and hopefully, some of you all will be back in here around 1:30 EDT, when the first round of food will be ready to eat!!

I hope everyone has a good 4th today.  I will be volunteering all day with the Red Cross in their various 1st Aid Tents as well as the DAT team, in case of bad weather.  Uncle Sam won't let me grab a rifle and serve my country that way so I do my service through the Red Cross.  I guess it's just my way of doing something to pay the country back.  August sometime is my 10 year anniversary of being an 'official' volunteer.  Gotta run!  Have a good 4th!

If you can make hot dogs Chicago style (e.g, using a poppy seed bun with toppings of relish, mustard, a pickle spear, chopped onion, two tomato slices, two sport peppers, a sprinkling of celery salt on top) I'll take three of them! Dinner [dinner] (Note the lack of ketchup; given so many toppings no wonder you don't need ketchup. Smile [:)]

Ed; neat pic's, wish we had some here at the Jct.( 110deg. now)  also there is a B 17G at Falcon field in Mesa Az.  ( Sentimental Journey )  . Is that the one you saw?? A beautiful bird all sparkley & twinkley in the sun. A few yrs.past Falcon had a ME. 110 , but it was pranged beyond repair. This desert is home to many war birds .  After WWII Litchfield Park was a scrapyard for aircraft as well as Kingman Az. Story & pic's in  Ariz. Highways Mag.  July 1946 . Have a cool 4th.  Respectfully, Cannonball.

The charcoal grills are fired up, and ready to go.  One of them has burgers and hot dogs on them, another has steaks pork chops, chicken (breasts, drumsticks, thighs, and and another one as corn on the cob, taters, and assorted veggies on skewers. And there is another grill with a couple of beef roasts.  (And there's already food on the warmer bar, staying nice and warm.  And I didn't forget deviled eggs, baked beans, three and five bean salad, along with a few other goodies.

In the cooler, there is a variety of salads (Jell-O, potato salad, cole slaw, and a white cake w/white icing, with a blue field of blueberries, "red stripes of strawberries, and "white stripes" of Cool-Whip.  Inside the  DD/CS, all the tables have little American flags in the center, and the picnic tables have red & white tablecloths, with blue candles in the center of each table.

So everyone grab a plate or two, fill up, and head to your favorite table, or booth inside, or head on out to the patio!!

Ed , OOPS I made a mistake on the info. The Falcon field German plane was a He.111 not a Me.110 .The Me.110 has a ( greenhouse canopy ) while the He. 111 has a glass nose and a single blister canopy. Mr. Champlain has quite a collection of aircraft at FalconField. I am chagrined at my error . Respectfully, Cannonball

....Cannonball:

I note your mention of the Kingman, Az. Airport storage of WWII warbirds....Yes, I learned of that as I was involved in doing some automotive testing in that area many years ago...In fact, some strange "old" birds...{not war birds}, were parked there back then.  3 Constellations....{4 engine passenger planes}, at one time.  They had been scavenged of some parts but basically were still together....Believe some were missing an engine or so....Wonder what ever happened to them.  I'm talking of a time frame of 1970.

And yes, I even saw photos of the Kingman airport with fields of war birds in place....
