Walt

Sorry, I forgot that you also have a special interest in the C&O.  A few years back I saw the 490 parked outside, but the last time I went up to the museum it was inside the car shop and was not open to the public.  Good to see that it is stored inside.  Unfortunately, quarters are somewhat close so photo angles are limited.

I shot the rods to show the absence of the eccentric.  A museum volunteer who was a steam locomotive engineer did a great job of pointing out features of the engines in the shop.  I am not a steam expert and I think he said the valves on the 490 are "poppet" valves.  Did I get that right?

I got so busy reading, I forgot to leave a note!

Congrats to Sarah.  I won't be here for the celebration day, so will miss all the festivities.  We will have to have another party next week for anyone that missed this one.

Someone save me some cake!

Lunch is now being served on the warmer bar:  the beef stew, cornbread, and the usual lineup of desserts are on hand.  Everyone enjoy.

Mookie, you'll definitely be missed tomorrow!  But, I'll make sure I save you a plate, along with a couple big slices of chocolate cake!!

Congratulations Sarah!

Today has been rather dreary. It's cloudy and showery and in the 60s outside which is kind of sad compared to the sun and 70s that we've had for the past few days. It looks like we're entering an active weather pattern with lots of thunderstorm chances for the next week, so we'll see what happens.

Congradulations Sarah!

I'll take some stew and cornbread. Think I'll lay off the desserts for today, I have had a bit to many of them lately. I will stop in tomorrow for the big party. With all the excitement we might even hit  3000 posts.

P.S. Mookie, I will hide some cake in the back of the fridge for you, so you can party when you get back.

Emma - great!  Are we partying tomorrow or Sat/Sun.  I think Sarah is back on Sat just in time for "Darby" day and someone's happy day.

I will be here off and on tomorrow.  We are entertaining some VIP's for lunch tomorrow and my presence has been requested.  (wonder if they will serve hot dogs?)

Off to check out the BNSF - 'til tomorrow

Emma and Mookie, tomorrow night is the CELEBRATION PARTY FOR SARAH.

I don't know about Saturday.  Did hear from my twin brother.  He wished me a Happy Birthday, since he will have to work all weekend, and won't be able to talk with me.  If anyone here is planning something for Saturday, I don't know anything about that.

The beef stew and cornbread has been relaid on the warmer bar.  (Was almost empty, so need to get more stew heated, and more cornbread made.  So now everything is in order for supper tonight.

Sarah - Way to go!  You've had to work a lot harder (but will have a lot more responsibility) than I'll have to be able to officially call myself a conductor - and when I do, I'll have a whole 50 miles or so I'll potentially be qualified on..... (and maybe only 16).  I'm sure you'll do us proud.  If you wander into the wilds of Northern New York, we'll have to see about meeting up!

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Hope everyone had a good night.

Coffee is ready, juice is made, and on the counter, you will find all kinds of doughnuts, danish and muffins.  Bear claws also.

Heard on the local news this morning, that around 1:30 this morning, on the P&L (Paducah & Louisville) tracks, a teenager, around 15,16 years old, was hit by a train.  He's in the hospital, and is expected to survive.  I'm not too sure exactly his injuries are, or why he was sitting on the tracks at that time of the morning.  I sure do feel sorry for that train crew this morning.

Gave Sarah a wake-up call at 6.  She has to be at school at 7 this morning, and will be out at 10:30.  I'm asking for help from a couple of you guys, to help me put up CONGRATULATIONS streamers this afternoon, please.

Since I don't have to leave for work until 11:00 this morning, I will gladly make myself available to help decorate the Diner for Sarah's congratulatory party. Meanwhile I will grab myself a bear claw and a cup of coffee. It's a little cool here in Sioux Falls, only 56 degrees and it is raining. I think the whole weekend here is gonna be socked in with rain. I wonder what the weather is doing in such places as Lincoln, Cedar Rapids and Louisville? The web site of the Weather Underground will soon give me an answer. I hope everyone else out there has a good day!

Whether it's weather or whether it's not, it's definitely weather, whether I like it or not.

Foggy - warm - in the 60's - and was very dark at 5 am.  I wore a light long-sleeved shirt and driver wore a jacket and short-sleeved shirt.  I haven't worn a coat for the last 2 weeks and the driver just finally put away his parka.  I am cold at nite, he is cold in the morning.  Who sez opposites don't attract!  Blush [:I]

I can put up some decorations - made a banner - Homecoming Happy CW Birthday Sarah 2006!

Hmmm...well, I got the date right at any rate!

Maybe I should make a cake.  Or maybe I should just go get in the hammock and stupervise!

Ray and Mookie, thanks for helping hang the banners/streamers!  Appreciate it very, very much!!  Just heard from Sarah:  Sarah finished #2 in her class!!!  Missed #1 spot by one point.

Ray, we had rain a couple of hours ago, with thunder & lightning.  Has quit now (at least for awhile).

Mookie, you can bake the cake, if you want, and we both can decorate it!!

Our FRIDAY FISH FRY is now under way.  We have cod, flounder, haddock, hallibut and perch today, along with the usual side dishes:  corn on the cob, cole slaw, fries and hushpuppies.

Everyone, enjoy your lunch, and stay safe out there!!

Got about an inch of rain last night with much more on the way over the next few days. Severe weather possible later this afternoon/tonight with a better chance both tomorrow evening and Sunday afternoon.

All I can say is that I'm glad it's Friday.

Much appreciate the transmission packed in what looks like birdy seed (?) from the mad chicken.  Now just need to get it out of small box and onto paper to take trackside!

CW - leaving for home, so have a very happy, happy birthday -(bet you will, too!)  I will think of you tomorrow in-between all those coal trains I am going to see!

And I want you all to know that the luncheon didn't have one bit of asparagus in it.  Little broccoli, tho!  It was good!

Lance, kind of know what you're going through.  Except all four of my wisdom teeth were cut out, about 32 years ago.

Fixed a different supper tonight:  Sarah requested meat loaf, and shelly beans, so we have that on the warmer bar, along with mashed taters and gravy, your choice of cole slaw or tossed salad, and there are some homemade buttermilk biscuits.

Desserts:  chocolate cake w/vanilla ice cream and mudchicken's Mock Charlotte.

Congrats, Sarah!

I'm tired after a long day of driving and trainwatching.  I'll tack up a couple of pictures in the diner sometime this weekend.
