I have no inside knowledge about anyone's identity.   However, it is now obvious that edblysard does, and perhaps other railroaders as well.   his is all about a little clique, always has been.   I do recall that ed picked up his football and said he would not return and deleted all/many of his posts after he was censured.  This forum has always had a group of railroaders plus a few supporters who get pissed off when anyone disagrees with them.  Their favorite tactic has been to start a series of inane, off-topic posts, engage in disrespect in an effort to get the thread locked.  Now we are hearing a false, revisionist history.  No wonder folks like the "Convicted One" finally spoke up in disgust at the double standard.   So Murray, Zugmann, Ed, and Murphy: go on with your games and see how long it lasts.

To be fair, I was being serious until I found out I was part of a conspiracy to bring down the world's governments, and all it took was for ConvictedOne/The Anti-Gates/Dweezil to blow our cover. In all honesty, let may say this. I'm not *in the know*, but I was at one time. Therefore, a lot of things really strike me as funny. One of them being that the moderators (used to, and probably still do)get all kinds of complaints from posters who felt like the moderators were favoring whomever was the other guy. On some of the more contentious threads, both *sides*(?) would complain that the moderators were favoring the other side. I guess it's life a lot of things in life, some one is always sure that the cars are stacked against them.

I don't think any of this is applicable to Ed. He has never, in my memory, engaged in "inane, off-topic posts." When I noted that he has not posted a bio, I was making a technical point.

He is not one of the offenders around here. I think we all know who the bomb throwers are. If the shoe fits ...

Now, since you just recently showed up as Euclid, and oddly, just like the person under discussion, have nothing listed in your bio too ...

C'mon, Ed, fair is fair. You have nothing listed in your bio, either.

Perhaps a bio of some sort should be made mandatory.

Yes! This would be great. I have been waiting for this!

Larry said, "I don't think it's a matter of being considered correct just because they are members of a class."

I agree with him.  That was my point when I asked you how can there be honest discussion if one particular class of participants are considered to be correct whether they are or not, just because they are members of a class.

"Members of a class"?  Sounds like class warfare to me.

With bucyrus gone now, unless someone currently has some *inside information*, we'll never know.

You sure the Perfessor will know?

No clout that I know of, simply the time and ability to be the squeakiest wheel in the universe.

You are implying something I did not write….he had no ability to tell Kalambach or Jim what to do, just the time to wear him and the mods out, precisely like those people we see in restaurants or grocery stores who make such a obnoxious spectacle out of themselves in an attempt to gain extra service or free stuff, he managed to get what he wanted simply because they wanted him to shut up and leave them alone.

The poster in question was locked out of the forum under his then current screen name after that, but has since come back with a new user name.

I personally know of one forum member who had 3 different screen names, and had logged in from their computer, their child’s computer and their work computer, all you need to do is set up separate e mail accounts.

Now, since you just recently showed up as Euclid, and oddly, just like the person under discussion, have nothing listed in your bio too, unless you were a member back then under a different username, I find it hard to see where you could “remember” any such dust up, since none like that have occurred since you joined as Euclid….unless of course you were one of the participants back then under a different name.

Care to tell us who you were then?

I didn't think that bucyrus had been locked out. I thought he had left on his own accord, after one of those "You won't have Dick Nixon to kick around any more" type speeches. With bucyrus gone now, unless someone currently has some *inside information*, we'll never know.

My first career choice in high school was to be a porn actor. Railroading was my second choice.

In any case I only here cause I like (ed) trains. I enjoy stories and all those years ago I knew the folks at Kalmbach . My life in the last 2 years has not been good so I like a discussion that raises my hopes and hopefully put some of the enthusiasm for the job that was lost last summer. I keep hoping...

I haven't been unemployed for 25 years but suddenly I don't know what to do with all the time I now have.

Ed,

It sounds like nobody was able to do anything about this instigator you mention.  Are you telling me that the moderators, the forum managers, and Jim wrinn were all powerless to stop this instigator, so the only solution to end it was put a bunch of innocent people on moderation status?

Powerless? No. Apathetic and fed up? Yes. Taking the easy way out? Probably.

Well if the moderators wanted to take the easy way out, why not just block the instigator?  The moderators have all the buttons.  Wouldn't that have been easier than punishing a bunch of people who were just the innocent victims of this instigator?  That instigator sure must have had some magic powers.

I seem to recall an incident quite similar to the one Ed had described.  But it differed in several important ways so it can't be the same one.

Seems to me Euclid has the right of this one. I've also been subject to the kind of 'moderation' of which Ed Blysard has complained -- usually when I tried to respond to ad hominem attacks by the likes of Michael Sol, Railroad Man and Illinois Central. (The latter two maybe one and the same?)

How could such obvious mischief makers get such clout with Kalmbach? Good question.

The rest of us just keep plugging away, trying to take the forum in good faith (while no doubt stumbling, ourselves, once in a while into the occasional cheap shot, sometimes provoked). I like, so far, the new format for moderation and the way it's been exercised -- which is, with restraint!

Perhaps you could volunteer your services?  Maybe, there's just some of the finer points of the system that the moderators don't understand, and they just need someone to point out the finer details?

No insider information for me, I simply emailed Jim Wrinn, about the issue back then and the response was rather disheartening to say the least.

When I pointed out it was very un-fair to censor one group and not the other, he replied he didn’t care, he and the head of the mods had been hammered, in one instance, almost hourly emails for an entire day, by the poster in question, and he had had enough.

He told me he point blank instructed the mods to make it cease, by whatever means they could, fair or not, and in reality, he didn’t really care if it was fair, he thought it was quite petty in fact.

He even commented to the same in the forum on that particular thread.

So, following the instructions received from their boss and their boss’s boss, the mods placed a group of railroaders and a few non railroaders on moderated status because it was the fastest easiest way to put a halt to it.

The only preferential treatment anyone received was the instigator was pretty much allowed to rant and insult at will till he ran out of steam.

Stop and think about this for a second.  I don't know that there's any kind of *realization* here. What you have is one disgruntled(?) poster who made an allegation that you refer to.  Sinister conspiracy, or sour grapes?  I guess you'd just have to take in all the... evidence(?) and weigh the probabilities on their own.

it really isn't a new realization (more of a confirmation) and it has nothing to do with Bucky Euclid's post.  Actually norm's.  I will simply continue as a member knowing full well that the General Forum was and probably always will be rigged, with a certain group having insider information about its moderation.  One thing I hope we could end on here are the little one-liner snipes by some members who think they are witty.  And the other is to remain vigilant of trollers of the type many of us, railroaders and non, united against recently.

Murphy didn’t offer me any preferred treatment back then, in fact, I was on the receiving end of a few emails from him and other mods asking that I take the high ground so to speak and stop arguing, which most of the time, I followed.

This is, after all, just a forum.

Take it as such, and attach the amount of importance you choose.

I don't think anybody is saying anything like that. A railroader with experience deserves to be listened to, when his experience is relevant. An innovator deserves to have his ideas listened to. Neither one deserves to be dismissed out-of-hand. Those of us who have spent careers in some form of railroad service usually know whether an idea has been tried before, and can come pretty close in our predictions about the success or failure of the innovation. It's arrogance that is resented; not the new idea itself.

I love innovation.  I also think that re-inventing the wheel is so much theory, and short on practicality. Remember Kneiling's "True Train"?   In some respects, what  he thrust upon readers of this magazine eventually came true.  Some of it seemed crackpot at the time, yet, it makes sense today.  Example  DPU trains.

But, Kneiling had credentials.  The same cannot be said for a lot of others who speculate without basis.

Murphy Siding,

So, Norm says moderators were told by the forum leader to give preferential treatment, and you say that is a conspiracy theory.  Then you turn around and say you quit being a moderator because the forum leader told you to give preferential treatment.

I'm not sure I understand the question, if it is a question(?) But I guess you'd have to ask Norm.

I still feel the need to throw in some logic here. If it's the same set of rules and the same moderators on the whole family of forums, logically , they would all have the same... issues(?)
