Like I always say: Never argue with a fool on an internet message board. Because they will only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience. Which is why I tend to just let them ramble on, unengaged. Don't give them a platform from which to preach.
gardendance Murray, thank you for supplying that definition of cabal. I wasn't sure if it was how we get our television or a form of Jewish mysticism. Anyway when you brought up caballah you said "about three (or so) individuals who have not been associated with this forum for as long as most of us have been", and since I haven't been active on this forum, or even this site, very much, I wondered if you were counting me in that cabal. Are you? And who are my coconspirators? Or is that kookooconspirators?

I think we're doing pretty good....we put the FUN in dysfunction.
I think a guy on a car racing message board I belong to had it figured out: "What's a guy got to do to get along in this place? Belong to one of the cliches?"
Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.
Wait a minute, we have a cabal now?
What the heck happened to the cadre?
I go off for a few days, Murphy takes a vacation, and when we come back, everything has changed….so what’s next, ya’ll gonna change the secret handshake too?
Murphy Siding I guess I still need to do some research on cabals, though.

Convicted One BaltACDComplainers complain! I actually think that complaint inclination behavior ( such as we are talking about here) is rooted in control-obsessive personality types. They actually believe it is their prerogative to decide what others are permitted to discuss. It's a way to curtail points of view not in harmony with their own preferred outlook. THAT is why simply "not clicking on the thread that offends me" is not good enough for them. Not only do THEY not want to read opposed points of view, but they don't want others thinking free thoughts, either.

schlimm edblysard So, if Kalmbach as a company doesn’t gain anything from this conspiracy, then the moderators must have gotten something, right? Not sure what that would be, seeing as how Murphy had already quit being a mod, and Jeff Wimberley quit over this, as did another mod, so I doubt they “won” anything other than heartburn and headaches….and the folks who were moderated, most of whom were railroaders, I don’t see where we won anything either. So, again, if there is a conspiracy or a bias, who wins, and what do they win? There appears to be some revisionist history in all the verbiage of exchanges. 1. The person who suggested a conspiracy was the former moderator who generally sides with a subset of the railroaders, not an outsider. I would hope that we can not only be civil in our posts but also tolerant of disagreements with each other and neither make personal attacks nor take criticism personally.

Euclid This seems to have begun when Murphy Siding confirmed what Norm had said about moderators being told to favor the railroaders when they engaged in disputes with non-railroaders
Murray, I don't know if you're talking about me. I'm a longtime member, only sporadically active because, as I noted in prior posts I've been active on another site, and have only recently returned to trains.com. Does this make me an individual who has not been associated with this forum for as long as most of you?
I'm tempted to reach for my Funk and Wagnall, What do you mean by cabal? I do have a desire about the direction and tone of how the trains forum should be operated, but I don't think I can direct it. I can only vote with my feet and stop participating if it's not operated the way I like, which in case I haven't been clear, is to treat everybody equally well, as opposed to what I worry is "if somebody complains I'll punish everybody" which is the impression I got from the moderator's posted warnings.
John WR BaltACD Big boys don't complain - they deal with it. That is why there is Private Messaging! Have a beef with someone - take it to PM's (not PMS) Well yeah, Balt. But one way of dealing with it is to file a complaint. Apparently some people have done that. Once a complaint is filed it has to be addressed. I personally think Angie is leaning over backward here. John

John
I filed a complaint to the updating the forum thread - and yet they continue to screw up the forums operation and my complaint hasn't been addressed.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
The problem we have here is that there is a cabal of about three (or so) individuals who have not been associated with this forum for as long as most of us have been, and it is their desire to direct both the direction and the tone of how the Trains forum should be operated.
Agreed John. But out of almost 9,000 views I suspect most viewers are more interested in what we have been discussing than filing a complaint. Thus far, the discussion has been pretty civil and I'm sure that's why Ang has let it continue.

Convicted One Angela Pusztai-Pasternak 've received several complaints from forum users about this thread. Ang Tell them, that if they quit clicking on this thread, it won't bother them, anymore. I've never understood the complainer mentality in an environment such as this where they can simply ignore a thread they don't find useful. Why allow them to ruin it for the rest of us?

The closest legitimate reason I can figure is that folks might complain about bad posts in good threads, but Angela says she's gotten complaints about the thread, and not about some posts within the thread. And many moderator's solution seems to be to lock threads. If only certain posts within the thread were the problem I don't see how locking handles the complaints.
Well Mookie,
In one MOW crew I got to know there was one woman. No one harassed her, but that may have been because she wasn't a 'little woman' and probably could have kicked their rears if they did. She did everything the guys did and carried her weight in the crew.
