....Thanks Walt, info on that massive bridge.....Glad to hear it is finally open that walkers, etc....can pass all the way thru. And that the massive structure is at least being some use again...Not totally wasted.
Used to look over and see it as we crossed the river near by on I-65 as we did travel once or twice a year to the Opryland Hotel...and actually did pass under it once...{well twice}, in a boat. Anyway one looks at it, it certainly is a massive structure. Sometimes when I look at bridges, and take away the thought of that doesn't look like a structure massive enough to do a job....but that bridge...was not one of them...!
Sorry to hear of that ladie's passing in that fire Walt....That is terrible for one to lose their life like that. Sounds like the fire Co. didn't get the word very soon to get way out of control like that right there in the city. Perhaps being in middle of the night, and if only the lady being in the house....Terrible.

[Grrrrrr, That stupid yellow footer!!!]
The "connection" for the Indiana side of the bridge isn't done yet, it should be by sometime this summer. The "bridge" is open 24/7 except major holidays and certain city holidays for walkers, bicycles, dogs, etc. Right now, after it being opened just a little over a month, the city is about ready to ban dogs because their owners aren't picking up afterwards...causing a Big Stink!!
I didn't call 911 this morning, knew someone else had already; but if I were still on the fire department, this fire would have been an exterior attack only...if anybody was still inside, they would not have survived. Yes, it is a shame, I used to try to save lives as an FF/EMT.
Please don't get me started on the F.D. not getting the call on time. They did, but the "Bean Counters" for the city have said we don't have enough money for certain fire stations to stay open, and we can't afford to pay that many people to do that job. The guys got there, risked their lives to do what they had to do; as a matter of fact, this was an extra alarm fire, they had to call extra companies for the manpower. Nuff said.

Check your clocks, Walt. News says it was about 3 AM .
Fire doubles about every 30 seconds - night time makes it all the worse, as one may succumb to the smoke before even realizing there's a fire. The reports don't mention smoke alarms. It's possible one might have made a difference, but some folks (especially kids) will sleep right through them, and any sleeping medications can make it worse in that respect as well.
Given a good head start like it sounds like this fire had, the firefighters are behind the eight ball before they ever leave the station.
At least it was an older construction house. If it was new construction, it would have been far worse, as far as the damage goes.
It's never a good thing to have someone die in a fire.

Hmmm, did a "clock check" and they show they are still on E.S.T. And on that time. I think the news was wrong. (nah, they always get it right!)
Never heard a word on the news reports about smoke alarms or fire detectors or anything.
My house is somewhere in the 100-110 year old category, this other house probably would be about 70-80 years old.
If it had been "new construction" it would have gone up in a much shorter time than it did.
Lady had several medical problems and was on some medications.
My personal opinion, if the firehouse had been a block away, she Might have made it out; if it had been 5 blocks away, she didn't have a chance.
Larry, this fire had a very big Head Start, when I looked out the window and saw the "Orange Glow" to the west, I knew there was a problem.
Please forgive any errors in this post, I am trying to type, and have a 3 month old kitten helping me. (actually, he could probably type better than me.)
Larry, I'll send you a few pics. that I took from my front yard, and later after walking over to the scene.

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Ed: Be glad you don't drive professionally, labor rates at Kenworth start at $90, and go up from there, depending on which part of the country you're in. Was at our dealer in Madison for warranty work two weeks ago, they got my list taken care of, except for the dash lights in one section, they worked for two days, then quit. At least the warranty is two years/250,000 miles......
Thankfully, I don't have to do services on the semi, involves changing about 40 quarts of lube oil, oil filter and both fuel filters, cleaning the manifold pressure sensor and the doser valve (dumps fuel into exhaust to get the particulate filter hot enough to burn off collected soot), grease the driveshafts, and fill the automatic greaser that lubes the whole truck. Average time is 2-4 hours, depending on if I just came off the road with a load or not, if i did, they have to wait for the exhaust to cool down from about 1500 degrees......
Company bought 35 new 2013 Kenworth T680s, they have a switch on the dash that will start a light test, very handy to use, beats hanging something on the trailer brake lever to check brake lights. These trucks also have flat screen TV mounts in the sleeper, a compartment for a microwave, and an 1800 watt inverter with shorepower capability. They would not have to twist my arm to get me in one......
Home for the week for jury duty, not needed today, though, so may do some things around the house. Might also do some work on some models, shall see how I feel (home-cooked food is throwing my body for a loop.....).
See everyone later......

No weather here so far today. Mostly cloudy and chilly. Probably going to be a couple of days before the garbage arrives again.
Hi everybody. Hope it is a good week this week, excluding the loss of my very good friend and ex neighbor. After Walt called me yesterday morning, and asked me which house my friend lived in, I just didn't have the heart or inclination to post anything yesterday. As Walt said, she did have some medical problems, including having a big toe amputated last year. She was a diabetic, had high blood pressure and just a few months ago, had been told that she was losing her eyesight, and would eventually be totally blind. R.I.P. my dear, dear friend. Still shedding a few tears for you today.
I have lunch/diner ready for you all. Here is the menu:
1. Baked chicken w/your choice of mashed taters or stuffing, green beans, mac & cheese and slaw.
2. Hickory smoked sausage w/fried taters, and any of the sides listed in #1.
Everyone have a good afternoon, take care, and see you all later.

This is a very ongoing story, seems that person was murdered, house set on fire from the outside.......she was a very nice person and friend, hard to believe she had any enemy's that would do that.....and yes I know..."this day & age"......

Good Morning
Brilliant sun is coming through the windows here....another beautiful day forecast for us'uns
A somewhat busy day for me here..paperwork needs done then it is time to start futzing with my tax papers for work...yeeesh...
So much for smoke detectors making a difference...
Same ol' same ol' today. Waiting for the phone people to show up to fix the phone at our banquet hall. At least the cable people promise morning or afternoon. These folks just cover the entire day.
Looks like Houston Ed had some excitement down his way this morning - fire at a plastics/chemical plant. One minor injury, according to reports.
Tree - I think they have continual excitement. Seems like they are always igniting something in the port area. Will have to rattle his cage and see if he knows anything.
And on a very cold, very windy, sorta cloudy, sorta sunny day - the front page of the paper sez that Gallup has decided that Lincoln NE is the happiest city in the United States! We are ahead of Boulder & Ft Collins CO, Provo UT & Burlington VT.
But when you read on - we are happy in job satisfaction and a lot of other job nonsense. I know it is hard to get a job because of continual low unemployment.
But what makes me happiest is Hey Chicken - Denver is #15!
afternoon
snow has started here in nw ohio.brunt of it might head down south of Ft.Wayne into Modelcars area. But with temps starting for 37 tomorrow and 40 and rain early next week it will be gone soon.Soo ready for spring. In 2 weeks Mamma hits a big birthday. We are planning accordingly.
Mookie But what makes me happiest is Hey Chicken - Denver is #15!
Looking at the overnites on the police blotter - I think they should look a little closer at the explanation of jobs being the reason we are the happy city.

See, I can generalize as well as the next...
matt is delayed 2 hrs today.had to shovel when we got home.have some nice drifts for the little snow we got.breakfast is ready.need to sleep fast.work is busy again.
OW! I stubbed mah toe on the yellow banner and fell into the diner!
I am not going to avail myself of anything on the banner, so will use some scissors to cut it off mah screen!
Just passing thru - on mah way to the fridge. Don't mind me.
Nigel (10 year old Scottie) is home wearing a vet's conical funnel collar after minor surgery at the vet. The anesthesia has not quite worn off yet. Think he now ought to be named "crash".
The encounters with the dog door are a hoot. Don't expect the vet collar to last the week.
I suggest you protect the cone. Dogs like to lick their wounds and can do it for a long time after the surgery.
NS had a steel local going to delta.mookie there is a deex train going back your way.Breakfast is ready.Chores and errands later.Tonight is friday.
No Joe! If it is Friday then that means I have to go back to the dreaded grocery store - a chore I hate - sooner. I am going to make it Wednesday - just to give me longer. (wonder how Thursday is going to fit in this week)
Good Thursday morning all. Beginning to feel somewhat better now; although, still no word on who murdered my friend, then set her house afire. Taking one day at a time, and trying to keep myself and my mind busy on other things. Thanks for the well wishes, you all. They mean a lot. Everyone have a good day, keep warm and take care.
The Countdown begins: 13 days until spring!! That's what my sil and I heard on the news awhile ago.
mookie
would be happy to go grocery shopping for you.would you like to work at matt's book fair or help my sister organize her house??Starting to gather tools as we speak.
