I'd rather listen to a loon in the morning than a great blue heron.  As graceful as they are, their call is downright obnoxious...

I'd like to put a microphone near the feeders, so I could hear the "busy talk" of the birds.  I can recognize the nuthatches, and obviously the chickadees, but everthing else is just "cheep, cheep, cheep..."

Speaking of cardinals (the birds, that is), I had five pair at the feeder tonight.  Did a double take, for sure.  Two or three pair is the norm here.

Send your excess to Denver. Except for Red-winged blackbirds, that color is largely missing here.

Haven't seen any cardinals yet, but hear them about daybreak. Saw my first robin today, he was hopping around in the snow, looking a bit confused!

Someone mentioned on another forum I'm on that the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are supposed to be pretty spectacular Sunday night, and visible down into the middle part of the country.  Could be interesting!

A fair-sized CME (coronal mass ejection) was launched on 3/15, it's path is towards Earth, and it might intersect with the comet; this will be the source for the particles that will light up the aurora.

For those of you with an interest in Astronomy, here is a link to a science/astronomy blog that I visit every day (the link goes directly to the post regarding the CME).

Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone!!  Came in early this morning, and decorated for the day, and I've got a late breakfast on the warmer bar.  Also have corned beef, cabbage, Irish stew on for tonight.  Will mix up/bake the cornbread just before serving.

Allie's birthday party went well.  Lay down for about an hour after we got home, but guess I was too tired:  couldn't go to sleep.  But she had a great time and loved all her presents, and her "Snow White" cake, which was just a white cake w/white icing from the deli/bakery.  She and Allie will be back home sometime this afternoon/early evening.

Everyone have a good day, take care, keep safe, and don't be drinking too much of the green beer today.  Personally, I won't be drinking anything alcoholic.

Four hundred and fifty halves of chicken, gone by 12:45.

Unfortunately, about 25 people were left standing in line as we ran out.  I really hate to see that, especially because it's the second time it's happened.  maybe we'll get back up to 500 next barbeque.

I'm pooped.  Time for a nap.

The corned beef, cabbage, Irish stew and cornbread are ready to eat, and on the warmer bar.  Dessert:  Shamrock milk shakes.

Still raining lightly outside, cause I'm here in the living room, and I can glance out the dining room window and see it coming down.  Time for a NAP.

Katie and I planned to go out to see the lights, and forgot about it until a little while ago--and did not see any, even though we got away from artificial lighting. Still, thanks, Zardoz and Larry for the heads up.

Nice and sunny, if cold, here right now, but Joe has been kind enough to send us his weather for tonight and tomorrow.

Busy week ahead.  Meetings three nights, then an outdoor show this weekend that I think I'm covering by myself.

UmbrellaStorm Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day," is the song for the day.  We got rain all day yesterday, all night, and still coming down in buckets.  Whomever has some extra sunshine, please send it our way.  Some places up around Louisville and north-northeast yesterday got some rather large snowflakes mixed in with the rain.  All Carolyn & I saw here was rain, rain and more rain, along with some thunder/lightning.  Heard some thunder around 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. this morning.

Everyone have a good day, take care and talk with you all later.

Gotta love northern NY - yesterday it was sunny (if cold) with just a few residual spots of snow around.  This morning I wake up to this:

Time to fire up the snowblower - probably for the last time this year.

Note to self - fill suet feeders.

Tree - was going to tell you that you had snow - guess you got the memo before I did!  Re: your "snow" collectors - that's about a 45 min job! - Hope you got an Xmas card from your feathered friends.

Mud - don't suppose this will melt and run backward to Colorado/Nebraska?

We woke up this morning to temps in the low 30s, but with a wind chill, it felt like mid 20s temps.  Now, this afternoon, we have beautiful sunshine, but the wind picks up every so often, and howls at us.  Tomorrow, we could see a few snow flurries; hopefully, the flurries won't give us what Tree got last night/this morning.  Our high temps for about the next week, are to be in the low to mid 40s.

Everyone take care, have a good afternoon/evening, and see you all whenever I can get back in.

Not putting snowblower away yet - still more white stuff threatened.  Interesting trip to Syracuse - plenty of snow, but roads were good.  During lunch about 3/4 inch of it fell, covering the truck....
