Peace be with you. 80 degrees a half hour before sunrise in Carolina, expected to make it to 101 later with scattered storms this afternoon.

We seem to be plagued with perps either shooting at cops, trying to take their sidearms or trying to run them over at traffric stops. Of late, there have been a number of cops having to shoot someone who is trying to do them harm and thus justifying the shooting. In one instance, a lunatic was stabbing himself and jumped the first cop on the scene. He managed to get the cop's pistol and shot himself to death. The family, who was standing around and not trying to help is threatening to sue the police because they claim the cop could have done more to stop him from shooting himself. I am glad I am no longer in law enforcement.

On the wireless, for some reason, band conditions are totally stinko. I am looking forward to seeing the day when things pick up and it gets to be fun again. On 24 June, 1964, I got my first license out of the mailbox, and 48 years later, I am still pluiggng away at it. I guess I will never retire from this hobby like some have done.

All from the Pettibone Plantation for now. Everyone take care and try to stay cool.

End. No more.

Tom

Good Sunday morning all.  Currently 81, 82 degrees here in Louisville this morning, going for a high in the mid to upper 90s later on, with the rain/storms coming in sometime this afternoon.  Come on rain, to everyone who needs it (especially the farmers)!!  Our official high out at the airport was 106 degrees yesterday.

Quentin, right now, our grass is basically green (and we haven't been watering the grass, only the flowers and tomato plants, and our little trees).  Maybe, come Tuesday, we can get the grass cut, as some sections of the yard are going to seed already.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages, like Gatorade, lemonade, iced teas, etc. are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast bar is ready, with bacon, sausage, homemade buttermilk biscuits, milk gravy scrambled eggs, toast and cereal and some fresh fruits like papaya, cantaloupe, watermelon, etc.

Everyone have a very good morning, take care going to Church, work, railfanning, whatever/wherever you need to go this morning, keep as cool as possible, and I'll see you all later this afternoon.

Good Morning "blownout cylinder"......May you be blessed with your testimony in church today....

And our report from here....It's still hot.  Looked at the reading in our attached {and insulated garage}, this morning, and it was still about 88 degrees from when I had to close the garage door late last night.

So, with it being only "81" when I first looked this morning, I opened the garage door to let in the "cool" air.

Sure hope we get relief stating with sometime today...{Like Carl up in the Chicago area}, mentioned last evening.

100's are not our normal here in a typical Summer and we need a bit of cooling....Noted Robins this morning hunting all over the lawn, and really not finding worms in this extreme dry grass....

Church later this morning, then perhaps Sunday lunch with niece / nephew a bit after that.

Paula.....I note at my eastern neighbor, they have a great oak tree in their front yard, which shades that area, and it has quite a bit of green in it yet.

Here, when we built this house....I purposely did not plant any trees near the house...{because of the potential winds in this area}, and so with no shade over much of my yard, it is simply brown dry.

I have no trees that produce leaves.....Evergreens {3}, at the back of the lot connecting the golf course....{one died some years ago}, and I do get a bit of shade in the western side of the property from a sizeable tree in the neighbor's lawn....and there, there is some green grass.

Hope for some cooling today....but Pray no massive storms are created from this massive heat dome that's been here over a wide area, for many, many weeks now.

Quentin and others, we finally got some rain earlier (a little after 1 p.m.)!  A lot of pouring rain and wind.  From the west, looks like we might be in for another round:  pretty dark sky, when Walt and I were out on the front porch a few minutes ago.  Temps have dropped, and it feels really nice outside.  Walt looked at/emptied the rain gauge, and it had a little over an inch of rain.

Here is our Sunday Dinner menu:

1.  Grilled chicken w/garden salad, homemade buttermilk biscuits, mashed taters and milk gravy. there's also green beans, broccoli and cauliflower to choose from.

2.  Beef roast w/potatoes, carrots and onion, and the above mentioned side dishes.

Dessert:  Pineapple upside down cake, yellow cake w/chocolate icing and whatever flavor ice cream you want (got all kinds of flavors in the freezer), and peach cobblers.

On a personal note, read in the paper about an hour ago, that the best football coach we ever had at my high school, passed away Friday.  He was living in Clearwater, FLA.  I knew, from his daughters on Facebook, that he had been ill for a few weeks.  Along with being the football coach, he was also a teacher (forgot which subject), along with being the boys' PE teacher.  Even if you weren't a football player, you knew and loved Coach Wilson.  He was a good ole teacher, who taught values, fair play, etc. to all the students who attended the school.  He was definitely a beloved teacher, coach and all around great guy and role model.  R.I.P Coach!  You had a great life.

Everyone have a good afternoon/evening, take care, keep cool and see you all in the morning.

Greetings from the Stampede City.

The 100th edition of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede started with a parade on Friday. And it runs until next Sunday. Based on everything I have seen and read, a good time is being had by all.

It is 81° now and it has been sunny right up until a half hour ago. I was going to say it is gearing up for a thundershower, but just as I was typing "hour" I heard a distant clap of thunder. The weather forecast for the rest of the week is for more of the same.

Well, so it begins. My sister and I just finished a number of hours up at my Mom's house beginning the clearout, so it can be sold. It seems like a daunting task, but if you persevere it seems to go quicker than I was expecting. If her schedule permits, we could get things in good shape before the end of the week. With two kids and an ill husband, her schedule is much more jammed up than mine. And comparing her schedule to my brother's, she looks like a slacker.

After all that work, a beef dinner sounds great. Thanks CW.Dinner

Good Monday morning all.  73 degrees here in Louisville this morning, going for a high of 89 degrees this afternoon.  Our high yesterday was 97, before the storm blew in.  Across the corner from us, on Virginia Ave., a tree blew down, bringing down the power lines over at the funeral home and apartment buildings.  That was the closest damage to us.

Blown out cylinder, have to agree with Q:  you may have inadvertently stumbled going up the stairs, but you had everyone's attention, and I know they really listened to you.  So that was a good thing. Thumbs Up

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And a nice, good breakfast is on the breakfast/warmer bar.

Hope everyone had a good weekend, have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

BC - after the work, comes the fun!  And train watching is always fun!

Busy doing "office" work today.  I am a trained professional - do not try this at home!  Calling the dentist, the doctor, going to the post office, filing a backlog of paperwork - you know - the really hard work.

I think I left out trainwatching.....

Filing might have to backlog some more.  Gotta pace myself, you know.

.....I don't know what we should be calling the weather since this past Winter, but evidence sure seems to be showing something is going thru a viscous cycle in ever widening amounts.

The photo of flooding in Denver....Britian, being flooded.....And Russia similar trouble.....and of course, we all have seen the extremes we've been thru, including last Winter here in our own country in many locations.....Our snow fall was HALF of a normal Winter....and now on into our Summer.

It appears crops are in real danger in this part of Indiana, and I expect a wider range too...I've not seen my yard this burned and brown for I don't know when.

At least the extreme dome of super temps has been broken....and we hope it lasts.  3 figure temps are not normal around here and we've had plenty of it.....I kept wondering about rail-kinks.....If they were going to happen, one would think they certainly have done so here recently and other very hot locations as well.

I wonder if they send hi railers {vehicles}, to inspect these tracks everyday under these conditions....I did see a hi railer coming down the N S track as I crossed it here in Muncie yesterday.  Or even a speed limit....?

Fellow just up the street a bit ago, had his John Deere lawn tractor out to cut off the tall weeds that come up under these circumstances, and it looked like a dust storm, what in a "normal" year would still be rather green lawn.

It's official, the past 12 months have been the HOTTEST in record history (1895)

http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/09/us/extreme-heat/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

High temperatures during June also contributed to a record-warm first half of the year, the agency said in its monthly analysis. The heat during the last half of June broke or tied 170 all-time high temperature records in cities across the lower 48 states.

Currently 79.9 degrees on our outdoor thermometer; official out at the airport is 81 degrees.  It has been a perfect afternoon for yard work.  Sarah mowed & trimmed, I swept, and did a few other little odds & ends and Walt trimmed outside the front gate on the sidewalk and next to the yard.  We hardly had any sun today, been overcast pretty much all day.

Mookie, how about coming to KY?  South and east of us are to be getting rain later this evening, and tomorrow and into Wednesday.

Here is our menu for tonight:

1.  Fried chicken w/mashed taters, biscuits, gravy, corn on the cob, salad, fresh slicer tomatoes, green beans or lima beans or broccoli.

2.  Country fried steak w/any of the above listed veggies/sides.

Hope you all have a good evening, enjoy your supper/dinner, take care and see you all in the morning.

Well, another hot day in the Stampede City.

The thunderstorm I alluded to in my last post turned out to be the one clap of thunder I mentioned. It cleared up about an hour after I posted. It is 81° and sunny now.

As Quentin says, (good to see you in here) something is definitely up with the weather. 30°C. or about 83°F is something of a benchmark for us. The last two years it only got that warm once or twice each year. We have now had two 30° days in the last four or five days, and more are forecast.

The Stampede is setting all kinds of attendance records. Over a 100,000 a day on a 193 acre park. And after having to put up with watching the chuckwagons race in the mud for the past several years, it is fun to see them kicking up all kinds of dust and dirt for a change. YEE Haw!!!

Latest from the 11:00 news. One of those Powder River Basin to Prince Rupert, BC unit coal trains derailed nine cars on the CP portion of the trip near Stirling, AB, about 45 miles north of the Canada/US border. No injuries. BNSF and FURX reporting marks spotted. At this point I would hate to bet against a "sun kink".

Good Tuesday morning all.  73 degrees this morning here in Louisville.  Going for a high in the mid to upper 80s again today.  Speaking of Willy, been wondering about him lately, as I've not seen too many posts from him on Facebook for awhile.  Guess he's really been concentrating on the studying.

Mookie, you and I can get together anytime, anywhere, and do our planning/plotting!!  Whisper  It has been awhile since we've gotten together to do some plotting.  If nothing else, email me, and we'll plan/plot that way, o.k.?  (We DO need to keep these guys on their toes, don't we?

Ed, are you saying that you'll be ready for good ole Tex-Mex food tonight??  How's the weather down your way, and how is the family?

Blown out cylinder, hope you have another good day day today!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is ready and on the breakfast/warmer bar.

Still hoping that, when the Produce truck arrives this morning, they have some really good things for us:  like some iceberg lettuce, yellow squash, some zucchinni and some onions.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all this afternoon.
