It's pleasant today - in the low 80's, partly cloudy with a nice breeze.

I do fear that Carl's thunderbumpers will arrive here just in time for the evening's planned fireworks.  I'll be on the mountain bike, running EMS patrol downtown on the waterfront.

Getting some laundry done while it's nice out - I love the smell of line-dried cloths.

Lunch is out of the way - time to get back to work!

Hello Everyone.  I recently read of a {maybe 3}, passenger trains..{Amtrak}, to start running into {thru ?}, Roanoke.  Believe it might have been in "Railroad News".

Projected to start this Dec.  Question....Has anyone caught that rail news item, and if so, would anyone know if it would be on the route we can watch from the hotel cam....?

Item:  Our heat continues.  98 plus something here today, and heat advisory all this week for this area.  And of course, Indiana humidity.

The rain turned out to be a non-event - some drizzle which cleared up in plenty of time for the fireworks.  In fact, the only thing that delayed the fireworks was two upbound ships.  The second was a tanker, and those are usually loaded with all sorts of stuff that doesn't do well around fireworks...

Headed to daughter's house for a picnic tomorrow afternoon.  At least most of the traffic will be headed south when I'm headed north later in the day.

Tired from pedalling around town before the fireworks (EMS bike).  Time for bed.

Good Wednesday morning and Happy Birthday, America!!Happy B-Day Happy B-Day

It's    going to be a very hot, humid day here in Louisville (although I've  only been up about 40 minutes, so haven't heard a weather report this morning).  Like Quentin, we saw a high yesterday of 98 degrees, and I think, last night at 6, the heat index was 109, 110 degrees.  It is already hot and sticky outside:  just came in from giving outside cats/kittens fresh water (put ice cubes in it, too).

Coffee, juices and all the other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And on the breakfast bar:  pancakes and waffles with little American flags stuck in the center of them.  Plenty of real maple syrup to go with the pancakes and waffles, or there is blueberry, strawberry syrup to go on them, with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage.  Getting ready to put a 1/2 sheet cake in the oven, and will be decorating it to look like an American flag for later this afternoon.  The extendable awning will be going over the patio, so we can enjoy being outside this afternoon.

Everybody have a good morning, take care if you're traveling to be with family/friends for the 4th and please keep safe today, so we'll see you all back in here tomorrow.

Joe, there are plenty of salads, just about every kind you can think of, along with hot dogs, steaks, pork chops, chicken, veggie kabobs, corn on the cob, etc., just off the grills.

Our heat index is already up to about 110, if I heard the noon report correctly, and I believe I did.  So everyone keep well hydrated, stay as cool as possible, and take care for the rest of the afternoon.  See you all later, maybe towards early evening.

Right now, at 4:11 p.m., our temp is 100 degrees.  Could not find the heat index listed on the WHAS 11.com website.  And believe me, I looked!!  Could tell it was 'hotter than a firecracker' when I went outside just before 4 to feed the outside babies and their adult sisters and Mama.

Have another round of our Independence Day Cookout on the warmer/serving station and our Special Cake for today is on the counter inside the Cafe/Diner, so the icing doesn't melt all over the place.  You can't miss it:  chocolate, with red, white and blue icing.  Yep, the cake is decorated like the American flag, complete with little white stars in the blue field.

I sincerely hope that everyone is enjoying the day, but also keeping cool and keeping safe.  See you all later.

Good Thursday morning all.  Whew!  What a night/early morning we had:  after the man made fireworks, Mother Nature gave us another one at 2:45 - 3:45 this morning, with thunder, lightning, and I believe I heard hail hitting the ac unit in the bedroom!  It woke me up out of a sound sleep.  Have been outside, moved the garbage bin back to where it goes, picked up the recycle bins and put them where they go, the outside cats' food bowl in place, and put their blankies somewhere to dry out, as they are soaked.  But we'll be going back up to a high of 102, with  the heat index anywhere from 105 to 110.  So what else is new, right??

Adrian, welcome back in here!  How are things going for you?  Maybe my thoughts brought you in??  I was thinking about you last night, wondering how you are.

BC, hope everything goes well for you today at the doctor's.  Will be praying for you.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the breakfast bar.

Guess after 10:00 this morning, I'll take a bus trip up to the grocery, and get a few things:  some meats, frozen veggies, etc.

Everyone have a good morning, keep cool and take care.

CW - Frozen peas (still in the unopened bag) make a great ice pack...

Supposed to be pretty warm here today.

Managed to catch a fireworks display on the way home from daughter's yesterday, so my 4th was complete.

Lots to do.  Better get to it.

Good Morning.   Something cold with ice.     It's already 79f with 72% humidity down here in SW Arkansas. Forecast high today is supposed to be 99f.

BC All the best to you.  Hospitals and Doctors aren't much fun at times are they.

Has anyone ever heard of Murphy''s law of unintended consequences as it applies to computers and transportation?

Well hear it goes.   A long time ago at the dawn of the computer age a wise man predicted that computers would create a paperless society. (Think of all the saved trees).

What no one thought about was the computers ability to endlessly, massively, in 10 part forms print more and more paperwork with absolutely no human input whatsoever!!

And Murphy was an optimist.

Thx Ian

Good mornng all....Hope everyone made it thru the 4th safely.

Here, terrible heat.  Did not hear very many fireworks, and it was not legal to be setting them off as our area is so tinder dry.  Believe some were displayed by officials where they could be put up over water, etc.

Today, our instrument indicated 81 this morning when I first looked, indicating it might be as hot or hotter today...and of course humidity.

I did see 100.2 on our readout yesterday.

My little {black}, min. Doxey pup wants to go outside and then I have a little difficulty getting her back in....I go for her, and she is just laying in the yard {at different places}, and I'm afraid it's too hot outside for her....I think she is still "waiting" for Jean....Vigil, looking and looking....Difficult to handle.

Happy Thursday Railfans!

Lisa and I got the heck out of town for the 4th and got in some RRAdventures time plus did some other stuff in and around 11,000-12,000 altitude range.  When we drove back into town the city was in a haze from smoke so we jumped to see what the news was and to our surprise it was smoke coming in from Wyoming from their fires.  Seems like the entire Front Range is burning these days; but, at least for Colorado fires are slowly coming under control...

Well, it's official, JUNE was the HOTTEST is Record History here and we have been above 95F for nearly two weeks straight.  They say some serious RAIN is coming in by the weekend - YIPPEE!!!!!!!; but, that too can be bad news for mudslides in the burn areas and could cause damage to the Colorado Spring water supply...

Hope to have my Travel Blog updated by the weekend from yesterday's travels so stay tune for that...

Hello folks.  103 degrees here in Louisville at 4:38 p.m.  I know, because while I was in the kitchen, heard Walt start yelling:  local meteorologist came on and gave the current temp on the 4 p.m. newscast.  It feels every bit of it outside:  went to the grocery, and felt totally drained when I got back home.  Beginning to feel better now that I've been inside for a couple, three hours.

For supper tonight:

Salads, salads, salads, cold strawberry and cherry cheesecakes, sliced tomatoes, whole tomatoes w/your choice of fillings, etc.:  any that will help all of us cool off.

Desserts:  along with above mentioned cheesecakes, just about every flavor of ice cream there is, including my favorite, Kroger's Death by Chocolate

Hope you all have had a good day, stayed as cool as possible, will have a good evening and take care of yourselves.

....Tom, I believe every word dogs are extremely faithful....And this one is certainly no different.

Niece and Nephew are up here from Florida in the Summer time, and they have a Dachshund dog and I'm thinking of letting them have "Ella" for a day or two, and get our pup into a different environment and of course to play with "Gretchel"...They really do know each other....Even by just mentioning their names to one of them.

Hot....Touched over a hundred some here today again....I did see 101 plus, but really didn't look for the max.

BOC - I think we got some of your palm goop....

Promise is that we will be cooler for next week.  What's cooler - 98 instead of 100?

Had a major fire here - Con Agra had a fire in their "carton/box" building.  That is the 2nd time we have had a major fire that started in a building holding "paper" products.  The other one was during cold weather and at nite and everything wet, froze.  Today it was in 100 degree heat and everything melted, including the fire fighters.

They couldn't pay me enough.....

Face down in the chocolate, thank you!

Good Friday morning all.  79, 80 degrees is what we're starting out with this morning, going for a high of 105 degrees later this afternoon, with a heat index of at least 110 degrees.  Sunday and Monday are our best days for some good rainfall, with temps going back to to mid to upper 80s, low 90s for next week.  Will definitely be looking forward to that!!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the breakfast bar.  Mookie, want to join me in a big bowl of Death by Chocolate ice cream for breakfast??  Sure sounds like a winner for me.

Everyone have a good morning, keep as cool as possible, and take care in the heat.  It'll be another triple H day.
