Sunshine 73.  3 more degrees before the sun sets.  Perfect car wash weather.

Keep sniffing the air.  All I am getting is pollen.  And itchy eyes!

Trains uncommonly quiet lately.  Tues is usually a good "noise" day, but have heard nothing since really early this am.  Wonder who's working where to cause the slow down.  Sigh

Afternoon Railfans!

Sadly a second person has been found dead in the fire zones today as the main fire is still 0% contained.  I have seen confirmed reports / photos that air assaults are well under way so hopefully they can get this thing beat down soon...

Tom, congratulations to you and your Mrs. on your anniversary!!  Best wishes to you both.

MC and Darren, how close are you all from those wildfires?

We started out this morning, at 5:00 a.m., with a temp of 42 degrees.  By 8 a.m., when I went 2 doors up for Produce, we were down to 40 degrees.  Think we may be at 69, 70 degrees right now at 4:35 p.m.  It was really cold out there, considering what it has been in the mornings.  One of my helpers, who is originally from NYC, said he was feeling the cold this morning, so he went back in his house, and got a thicker jacket to put on.  We did take the produce inside the gym this morning.  The heat wasn't turned on, but it was still warmer than being outside.

Here is our Chinese menu for  this evening:

1.  Appetizers:  Shrimp egg rolls, Fried wonton, crab rangoon

2.  Soups:  Wonton, egg drop, chicken rice

3.  Fried rices:  roast pork, shrimp, beef, chicken, special, and vegetable

4.  Lo Mein:  plain, vegetable, roast pork, chicken, beef, shrimp

5.  Swet & Sour:  pork, shrimp and chicken

Dinner Combos:  Moo Goo Gai  Pan, Sesame chicken, Seafood Combo, Pepper steak, Chicken w/broccoli, Kung Po chicken and boneless spare ribs

Hope you all have had a good day, enjoy your evening, take care and see everyone in the morning (before I go back to the doctor for me test results).

MC and Darren, how close are you all from those wildfires?

I'm about 20 miles away from the major one in Centennial.  One of my co-workers has property within the BLUE area which is where the new 6,500+ home evacuation zone is at.  There are 15+ fire crews of the ground (~400) and several air teams attacking this but still at 0% contained...

My sister is probably fretting - she lives in Aurora.  One of their favorite camping spots was burned over a few years ago in another of the major wildfires there.

Question  Question   At 505pm mst.  the news said a nasty derailment in Ind. Just a quick 4 or 5 second blurb was all that was said.  CNN & HLN  has nothing about said event.  ~~ CSX or NS.

Good Morning Railfans!

*Cough*      *Cough*      *Cough*

News from the fire, it's still 0% contained but has only grow to 4,500 acres.  We have three large bombers attacking this from the air plus other small aircraft making drops.  Homes lost is currently listed at 23 with 2 fatalities and 1 missing.  The two lost are identified as Sam Lamar Lucas, 77, and his wife Linda M. Lucas, 76; they were found inside/near a home.

Here are some photos from Day #2

Good evening everyone.  Well, it has been a pretty good day, weather wise.  Did a very short walk, after getting back from dr. visit.  Winds picked up a little bit, and had a few sprinkles, but that was about it for our area.  The rains just passed on, moving eastward.  As far as the doctor visit went, I do have a blockage in my right leg.  They're going to be scheduling an appointment for me go into the hospital, as an outpatient, for a dye test, to see exactly where the blockage is, and then we'll discuss treatment.  He also changed my bp medicine (insurance doesn't want to pay for what I'm currently taking)..  So will get that prescription filled this weekend.

For supper tonight:

1.  Leftovers from our Chinese fest last night

2.  Grilled chicken breasts w/broccoli and sliced red tomatoes

Darren, thank you for posting the pictures of the fires out in Colorado.

And Joe, thank for you taking over here in the Cafe this morning.  I sure do appreciate your help around here.  And the help of others here as well.  I will start packing things up tomorrow, for our move for Sunday morning.  Yeah, it's that time again.  The three months sure does seem to fly by, doesn't it.

Everyone have a good evening, take care and see you all in the morning.

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Beautiful day shaping up, with  a current temp in the mid 50s.  Our high yesterday was 81 degrees.  Can't remember what our projected high is for today, probably about the same, somewhere around 80 degrees.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go,  Breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast, oatmeal, etc. is ready and on the warmer bar.

Heard on the news this morning, that a couple of fans (1 Wildcat and 1 Cardinal) got into a slight slug fest over the Final Four.  Happened at chiropractor's (?) office in Georgetown, KY.  Some people have to take things to the extreme, don't they?

Any way, you all have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

Peace be with you. 64 and clear in Carolina, headed for sunny and 89! Looks like no spring this year.

Paula, take care of yourself with that blockage. I pray for you to recover quickly.

I guess it was inevitable. The idiots in Columbia are trying to start the process to turn I-95 into a toll road. Since I don't drive anymore, it won't affect me personally, but the wife goes to see her sister from time to time, Guess she will probably use 301 instead if that happens. It is the principle of the thing.

In a nearby girls soccer game the other day, one of the girls tripped and fell. She came up swinging, pulling hair and had to be pulled off the other girl. It's just a game and won't even be remembered in a few weeks except for the incident. How can you call such behaviour sports anymore, and is it really worth it when such people participate?

Everyone take care and have a great day.

Tom

Tom - sometimes you have to know the backstory.  Both of my kids were in sports and they brought home stories of players who were always just short of "the line."  Of course, when an opposing player had had enough and reacted, it was never said instigator who "threw the first punch."

All too often the instigator is an otherwise good (even great) player whose coach looks the other way at such behavior.  They aren't quite at the level of hockey's "enforcers," but they still often cause opposing players to give them a wide berth - which is why they are so "good."

Unfortunately, I also saw that officials often gave breaks (like ignoring such instigator"s behavior) to the perceived "better" team.

Damp here this morning, but at least that'll keep the grass fires down.  Some people still haven't heard (after two years) of the total ban on burn barrels and the seasonal ban other outdoor fires.

Tragedy on the high seas - a tugboat traversing Lake Ontario caught fire the other day seven miles offshore in the eastern end of the lake.  All six crew members were injured and had to abandon ship.  The engineer eventually died of his injuries.  The tug is tied up nearby for the investigation.  I stopped for a look - all that's left is metal in many parts of the superstructure.  A sailors worst nightmare.

Time to get on to today's projects.

Darren, hope they find the missing person, and hopefully, they'll find said person alive! that was a very interesting video you shared from the Denver Post.

Been a busy day around here.  Been catching up on laundry, while Walt went to the library.  Resting right now, while he is napping, and I'm trying to decide if I want to wash the inside of the washer.  Have one packet of the Tide Washing Machine Cleaner left, so may go ahead and do that in a bit.

Here is our menu for the rest of the day:

1.  Grilled burgers/cheeseburgers, home made french fries, salad and baked beans

2.  Grilled pork chops, with fries and salad, along with broccili w/butter sauce, baked beans and corn on the cob.

3.  Tuna melt sandwiches w/any of the above listed side dishes

Everyone have a good afternoon (what's left of it, at least here in the east), take care and see you all later.

Good Friday morning everyone.  Hope you all had a very good evening.  Our evening was good and uneventful:  quiet night in the neighborhood.  Starting out the day with a temp of 58 degrees, going for a high near 80 or in the low 80s, with rain and possibly some hail, high winds and heavy rain coming in the the late afternoon/evening hours.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the warmer bar this morning:  bacon, eggs, toast, jam/jelly; doughnuts, danish, chocolate chip and blueberry muffins, bagels and danish.

Everyone have a good morning, take care, and Larry, et al, hope the wildfires are gotten under control soon.

....Tragic, the loss of life out west in the Lower North Fork Fire.....

Our morning is cool....40s' temp.  Full sunshine though, and to be in lower 70's today.  Rain is probably headed this way by this afternoon....and I need to mow again....Sunny projected for tomorrow, so that's plan "B".....
