Here's hoping that your year starts off better than those teens whose party the police just broke up here.   Moms and dads had to come pick them up, with the last three young ladies getting a "courtesy" ride back to their residence in the back seat of a patrol car...

Roads are getting a bit iffy here - hopefully the combination of that and "amateur night" won't cause too many problems, although I've heard at least two dispatches so far tonight on the scanner that included the phrase "appear to be intoxicated..."

Headed to daughter's house in the afternoon for fajitas and Christmas gifts, which will include Papa assembling his gift to grandson...

Good Sunday morning and Happy New Year.  I did see the New Year in, but was in bed by 12:15 or so.  And woke up at 7:05.  Bet I'll be going back to bed after awhile.

Coffee, juices, and all the other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the warmer/serving bar.

Larry, sorry to hear that things went a tad haywire up there last night.  Maybe the kids will learn something positive?  Lets hope so.  Have a safe trip to your daughter's.

Have a good morning everyone, take care and see you all later.

Happy New Year everyone.

We had a bit of a jolt in our weather yesterday. I was out in the morning and the temps were in the thirties. Last night they dropped to about +5 or so and we are back up to 15° now. The recent nice weather did a pretty good job of getting rid of a lot of our snow.

I was in bed before midnight last night, and I don't have too much going on around here today.

AHA!!!  Are the temps. in the "SPA" warmer than 40 degrees?!

If so, we might make a trip in that direction.

In our area, we started at about 58 degrees this morning, now it's about 43 degrees and dropping, with high winds.(no snow, rain, etc., thankfully!)

"spa" closed for repairs today and tomorrow.  We are at 42, but have a wind out of the north @ just about the same.  But mid-week will be back in the lower to mid 50's.

Sun shining brightly - precursor of 16 above tonite.  Hey, it's January.

Bruce - bedtime was about 10:15; asleep @ 10:16 - fresh air in afternoon always turns me into a nitetime puddle.  That and really, really bad tv.....

Been kind of busy in the kitchen this afternoon.  Like Walt said earlier, it is very, very windy, temps are dropping.  The sun did peek out for awhile, but it is overcast now, at 5:20 p.m. By Tuesday, our high will only be about 30 degrees, then back up into the mid to upper 50s for Friday and the weekend?

Here is the menu for the rest of the afternoon/evening:

1.  Corned beef brisket w/cabbage (cole slaw for those of us who don't care to much for boiled cabbage), black eye peas.

2.  Pizzas:

     a.  anchovie

      b.  cheese

      c.   goetta

      d.  Hawaiian

       e.  pepperoni/mushroom

       f.  supreme

Desserts:  Chocolate cake, pineapple upside down cake, peach cobbler (and, if anyone is brave enough for it:  ice cream).

Everyone have a good evening, take care and see you all later.

MC - If you're missing any wind, I think I know where it is (and it's threatening to bring snow with it tomorrow).  Got blown all over the road on the way home from Syracuse, and have heard three wind-related dispatches in the past 5 minutes on the scanner, with many more likely to come.

Talked to my sister in Aurora (CO) tonight - she, too,  noted that it was a tad windy there yesterday.

.....A very windy day all day here.  And now the temps have dropped as the cold air is coming down from Canada.

To be here for several days....then better later in the week.

Let's hope a better NEW YEAR for all....and especially for those in dire need...

A nice sunny day here, the kids spent a couple of hours at the beach after spending the morning taking down decorations from the Christmas tree. High here was low 70's, though the forecast from a couple of days ago was calling for 80F.

Good Monday morning everyone.  Erikem, glad to see you paid us a visit!  Come back any time.

Thermometer is showing 32 degrees this morning; that's also supposed to be our high todaySad  Guess our temps will be slowing dropping throughout the day (haven't heard any weather reports this morning, this is just what I'm seeing on the computer).  At least the winds have died down from yesterday, this morning.  Just a slight breeze blowing.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  A breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast, sausage, biscuits, gravy on the warmer/serving bar, along with some bagels and bear claws.

Need to try to get hold of someone in our Metro government this morning.  Changing our recycling/trash/yardwaste pickups for this year.  Not to have any pickups today or probably all week, and need to find out exactly when we can put our Christmas tree out to be picked up.

Everyone have a good morning, take care, keep warm, and see you all later.

Looks like the "lake effect machine" has set up to the south of me, and the weatherguessers are suggesting upwards of two feet of the white stuff for them.

I'm looking at partly cloudy skies here, and not a snowflake to be seen.

Looks like a good morning to settle in with a bearclaw and some tea.

Did Christmas with daughter's family yesterday.  Grandson had "Cranky and Flynn Save the Day" added to his collection of Thomas trains, much to his joy.  He's only 2 and a half and he gets great joy from playing by himself ("Mom - go!") with the trains, re-enacting scenes from the episodes he's familiar with, etc.  "Cranky" is a remote control crane - but he's starting to get the hang of it.

Son-in-law won an I-Pad at work.  Since he already has one for work, daughter uses this one.  And grandson has it all figured out - almost better than his mom...

It's cold here this morning....24 when I first looked.  Blowing snow...Wind is still treating us with it's force....

Difficult to tell on the snow....I'd say, perhaps almost an inch overnight to now at noon.

Today and this evening, then forward in the week thru Sunday, it gets better with partly cloudy and warmer.....That doesn't sound too bad.

So today...it's stay home in the warm.  Music is entertaining from SiriusXM....And checking "stuff" on here....

A better New Year to everyone.

I am grounded (unless someone comes to take me somewhere) until Friday because of my surgery last Thursday. Daughter Ginny took me to see Ricki yesterday (in a care facility until I am again able to take care of her) after bringing me lots of food. Daughter Katie also comes over to see me often.

Three SEC team football games (all begin at the same time) to watch today. Two good ones Misissippi State and Auburn won) and one bad one (Vanderbilt lost) so far. I know that one SEC team will lose next Monday; Tom, have you ever known two teams from the same conference to play for the national title before?

I plan to get to church for the Epiphany service Friday night (I missed yesterday morning).

On my way home from Syracuse last night I took my usual route - a county road (instead of the state highway).  I noticed some headlights that looked out of place, and they were - the small pickup was cross-wise in a ditch, having crossed the county road from a side road and run straight into the ditch.

After determining that he wasn't hurt, I called it in to dispatch and waited for a patrol.  During the wait, the motorist tried several times to back out (his back-up lights came on), but he wasn't going anywhere - he was stuck.

I read this morning that he got tagged with a .14 BAC...

And it wasn't even New Years Eve...

Larry, Walt says that while he was still on the FD, he hated those runs.  With all the admonitions this day and age, it makes you wonder where the heck these people's minds are.

For the rest of the day, here is the menu lineup:

1.  Sloppy joes w/tossed salad and fries

2.  Grilled steaks w/baked taters and tossed salad

3.  Soups and grilled cheese or PB&J sandwiches:

     a.  vegetable beef

      b.  cream of broccoli

      c.  tomato

Joe, know you're probably hating to get back into the swing, by going back to work tonight.  Matt's probably not looking forward to Christmas break being over.  And me, have to set the alarm for tomorrow morning, cause it's back to Tuesday Produce.

Everyone have a good afternoon, keep warm and comfy and take care.

Not quite.....

First - it was #20 (NE) vs #8 - not exactly a closely matched game.

Noticed that #16 GA and #17 Mich St were playing each other this afternoon.....

Also - until the 4th quarter - there wasn't a whole lot of action on either side.  You were only 3 points ahead of us until then.  So let's give the Huskers a little more than just a shove to the sidelines.

Evening all....

At home today, had some blood work done this morning, and it turned out there was no freight to be moved, so just decided to finish out a 34-hour reset.  After the 40+ mph winds yesterday, it's well needed.  Truck is running outside right now, keeping the fuel warm (forecast low is 7 above here in Burlington tonight), might shut it off later, but not sure yet....

Have not paid much attention to the Rose Bowl today, was 14-all at the start of the second quarter, so Badgers must be doing something right.  Looks like its 35-31, Oregon out in front, about 10 left in the third now, see if they can win this one......

Yes, Mookie, for a time, it looked as though the chickens were going to be shucked--but they were able to take a load of corn home with them. Are you and Tom still friends?Smile

As to Georgia and Michigan State, it seemed for quite some time that Georgia would win by the lowest possible score, but Georgia decided to do something about that--and Michigan State caught up and then (in the third overtime) passed Georgia.

Thanks, Carl. I learned this morning that I go see the surgeon on Thursday, and not on Wednesday. I hope he does not consider me to have been bad and ground me past Friday morning.Smile

Johnny, remind me never to cheer for my team on this forum again.... FWIW, I would have congratulated Neb had they won.

Next, it's Florence's prettiest  in the Miss America Pageant. I WILL cheer for her too!

Tom - Not to worry - things get ruffled here from time to time, and we all love to root for our teams (how about that Syracuse?)  But we get over it and life goes on.

It's a good example of why we stay away from certain hot-button topics here, though.  At least with sports, we all know that on any given day, any given team can beat any other given team.  Maybe your team beat my team today, but next time....
