Good evening.

It has been pretty much normal around here lately. Not too hot (high's in the low 70's), not too cool in the evening (59° right now), and a few thunder showers. There was a brief moment yesterday when it was though a tornado had touched down in the west end of the city. It was later determined it was just a straight wind gust.

This did lead to the most accurate statement I ever heard from a radio weather man, "funnel clouds really blow!"

Thing are drying out a bit around Edmonton, which is helping CN's operations get back to normal, but they still have work to do.

Everyone enjoy their Friday.

Gee, Mookie, wish I could send you some of our non-humid weather!  It is beautiful outside:  pleasant breeze, and very comfortable outside.  Walt and I just came in from being outside.

Everything went pretty good this morning at the doctor's office.  Unfortunately, I won't know anything about any of the test results until next Friday.  Guess I can wait that long.

For supper tonight, here is our menu:

1.  Roast beef, taters, carrots, choice of green beans, broccoli w/cheese sauce, rice, tossed salad and dinner rolls.

2.  Beef noodles w/rice, tossed salad and broccoli w/cheese sauce.

Everyone have a good afternoon/evening, and will try to be back in later on.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  Currently 73 degrees here in Louisville this morning; our high today will be about 88 degrees, with lower humidity and lots of sunshine.

Hope you all had a good evening.  Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.   Breakfast is on the warmer/serving station.

Everyone enjoy your morning, and I'll see you all sometime this afternoon, after I get back from my doctor's appointment.

It looks like we've been fairly busy around here today.  Been taking a break from the computer since early this morning.  Guess, since I've been thanked for supper, I should let you all know what is for supper?!?  Here goes:

Grilling out this evening:  burgers, dogs, brats, steak, pork chops, grilled 'baked taters', corn on the cob; sides:  baked beans, mac & cheese, slaw, potato salad.

Desserts:  Strawberry Jell-O w/strawberries mixed in it; chocolate cake, yellow cake w/white icing

Hope everyone has a very  good evening, take care and see you all in the morning.

How DRY IS It in TEXAS??

A buddy out of Longview said he'd killed a mosquito that was carrying a canteen.

A man in Dime Box said the chicken farmers were giving the chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.

In Lake Palestine , they caught a 20 lb catfish that had ticks on it!

But just this week, in Bryan, a fire hydrant was seen bribing a dog.

It's so dry in Texas that the Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling, the Methodists are using wet-wipes, the Presbyterians are giving out rain-checks, and the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water.

Now THAT's DRY!

Dare I say it?  My side of the patio is wet this morning.  Rained from around midnite to about 3 am.  Nice gentle....well, I won't say any more.

People south of us would love to send trainloads of water to anyone in need.  Trouble is, they can't get the trains near them.

Joe - had a burst of trains really early in the morning yesterday (according to an eyewitness there).  By the time we got there about 10 am - it was all over but the shouting.  And I was the only one doing the shouting.

Figured out they are doing business for a couple of hours and then long stretches in between.  Just haven't figured out when the stretches are happening.

Also found out that some road travelers came into Lincoln in a DPU - air and all.  That surprises me!  I figured all locomotives were locked when not occupied, but Houston told me no.  Wny would you not lock something that important and expensive just to keep down unwanted guests if nothing else?  Couldn't you use something like a switch key - a universal key?

I feel a rant coming on, so will go find my coffee and a dry spot.

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Zugman, nice to see you in here last evening!  Hope you will drop by a little more often!  It is always nice to have 'new' patrons come in.

74 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  We did get some thundershowers last night.  Heard thunder for several hours before it actually started raining in our immediate area.  Have a nice little breeze  this morning, too.  Supposed to get back up to about 91 degrees today.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is ready and on the warmer/serving station.

Even though I didn't do anything but lie down or sit up during the test yesterday, I was really worn out, when I went to bed last night.  Don't think I even rolled over through the night:  woke up in the same position I was in when I went to sleep.  Actually feel rested this morning, and raring to go.

Mookie, how about us taking a carafe of coffee and our cups/mugs out on the patio this morning, or   into the garden?

Everyone have a good morning and take care.

Murray

Here in San Antonio we have received 5.62 inches of rain...for the year!

Our normal rainfall amount for today would be 17.71 inches...

That leaves us with a net deficit of 12.09 inches for the year.

My lawn is nice and crunchy brown.

And our current temp is 97.    Cool

Doubling out a train and the thermometer across the road said 82.  This was 1030pm.  Was in the 90s earlier in the day... god only knows what the B-temp was.  (ballast temp).  I wish there was a 3rd trick job I could hold right now.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Good evening. The guessers had a malfunction today. None of the forecasted rain showed up. However, it was cloudy all day. It is still 64° at 10:30 PM, not bad for any summer day here, in spite of the clouds. More rain is forecast tomorrow, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

CN is still having problems with washouts around Edmonton. Now they are dealing with one SW of there. They get ahead of the problem in one location and another one washes out. It is a combination of rain on site, and rain swelling rivers upstream increasing flowing water, washing out trackage. Hard to say how long that unfortunate combination is going to continue.

Larry, CN would certainly be happy to send some wet weather your way.

Bruce - could you send a (slight) Alberta Clipper this way?  Us northern New Yorkers aren't used to 90...

We'll take some rain, too.  My lawn is turning a nice shade of brown, and my posies want more water than my well is willing to give up.  A nice overnight soaker would do nicely, and wouldn't mess up very many people's vacation plans.  The farmers would be grateful, too.

Off to the railroad tomorrow - it's "Train Robbery" day, which actually makes my life a little easier.  All I have to do is get them on and off the train - the acting troup takes care of the rest.

Well, the nuclear stress test did not take 4 hours:  only just over 2 hours.  Then, when I went up to have the ABI test done, it was canceled:  the room is very small, and the tech said he wasn't staying in that room without any air conditioning.  So they rescheduled me for Thursday morning at 10 a.m.  The nuclear test wasn't bad:  they do it in two sections, and during each session, each time I was about to drop off to sleep, it was over. So, I've been home just about an hour now.

For lunch, I've fixed some tuna salad sandwiches, BLT sandwiches and you can have your choice of fries, tater chips or Cheetos, along with your choice of cole slaw or garden salad.

If you want anything different for supper tonight, just let me know.

For dessert:

Cantaloupe, watermelon, grapes, or you can have cake or cobbler and ice cream.

You all have a good afternoon, keep as cool as possible and take care.  See you all later.

....Half inch of badly needed rain early last evening, but it was over in about 20 plus minutes.

This will be another hot one today.  First peek at the instrument this morning at 7 was 76.8, so the heat will be on again today.  Rain helped, but we need more.

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  We had an interesting evening here in Louisville:  over by the U of L campus, a big ole water main burst, probably just after 6 p.m.  From the pictures we saw on the news, it looked like the Ohio River had extended its banks well south of the river.  Some of the local area (not our neighborhood) is under a boil water advisory until further notice.  Although, our water pressure did go down for awhile, but seems to be pretty much back to normal.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Breakfast is on the warmer/serving station.

I'm about to have a fit, cause I can't have anything to eat or drink this morning:  have to go in a couple of hours, and have that nuclear stress test, which takes four hours.  Then, after that, I have to go up one floor for ABI test.  I know the AB stands for ankle/bone, but haven't figured out what the I is for.  So you all won't be seeing me around until probably 6 p.m. or later.

Everyone have a good day, keep cool, and take care.

Good evening. Not a great day around here. It is 61° which is about as warm as it got all day. It was overcast with showers.

I had planned on going down to the Stampede Grounds today, to look around at the exhibits and the midway. I don't do rides anymore but it is fun to watch. There are both indoor and outdoor exhibits, plus there is midway junk food. My once a year chance to eat corn dogs and such. Each year they seem to invent a new kind of junk food, and I think they may have come up with the next sign of the Apocalypse; deep fried Pop-Tarts!!Thumbs DownWow

I still haven't decided if I am going to try one!

Unfortunately, tomorrow is supposed to be wetter than today and I have other commitments on Wednesday. But I have until Sunday to tempt fate.

CN has been having trouble with small washouts all over the place NW of Edmonton. Last report I have seen though indicates they may be getting ahead of the situation now.

Hope everyone has a good Tuesday.

.....Oh...that word, elderly....I better be careful.

And....at 5 pm this afternoon our weather instrument registered 99.5 degrees...and plenty of humidity to go with it.  Felt like a very hot day in Florida when walking out of the house, it was like going into an oven.  Then back in...burr....for a few minutes.  20 degrees cooler and low humidity.

Then  this evening {early}, a horzional red {radar}, line came across Indiana and a portion of it passed our way...It was traveling eastsoutheast.....and lasted but just 20 min. or so, but brought us one half inch. of badly needed rain.

Tomorrow....another hot one forecast.

I am not a gonna say a word about women and gravity!  Gonna take the high road, here!  Embarrassed

It just kind of surprises me that there are so many falls and it is summer.  I understand elderly falls, but we had one off a roof (30 feet), someone walking and tripped, and since they usually give the age of the soon- to-be patient, there are a just lot of young people falling, too.

Maybe they felt "the earth move under their feet....".....

Having hit the floor 4 times since my surgery, I tend to agree that falls are on the rise. County EMS, who hoisted me up each time at no charge, told me that every third or so call they get is for a fall. Each of my falls was for a separate reason, from blacking out to simply having my bad knee give way. I haven't hit the deck in over a month now, so hopfully, it is all past tense. Mookie, I can assure gravity is still alive and well.

Mookie
Listening to the fire calls and have decided that the earth's gravity must be in serious trouble....

About every 3-4th call is a fall.

Calls seem to go in streaks - I noticed a similar trend around here a while ago - an awful lot of falls.

Could simply be a difference in how dispatch is characterizing the calls.   F'rinstance our dispatchers have started to use "sick person" instead of "general illness" for many dispatches.

One could probably come to some conclusions regarding the economy and health care in general, too.  I'd bet that many, if not most, of the calls are for elderly folks.

Not that young people don't fall - it's just that usually they tend to trend over to "traumatic injury" because they fell off something (like a roof).  Old folks usually just fall down from a standing position, but that can lead to some significant injuries (including broken hips).

You're wrong about gravity losing its grip, though - I think it's pulling harder.....  Indifferent

Listening to the fire calls and have decided that the earth's gravity must be in serious trouble....

About every 3-4th call is a fall.  I have listened for years and don't ever remember this many falls - even in the winter time.  So think it must be gravity losing its grip....

Went outside a little while ago, to get the recycling bins, and couldn't wait to get back inside.  Walt has gone to the Library:  bet he'll need a towel to dry off on, when he gets back home! Feels like it is more than about 88 degrees outside already.

For lunch/supper today, we have:

1.  Leftovers from Sunday Dinner

2.  Cold cuts with tomatoes, onion, cheese, whatever you'd like to have on a sandwich or 2 or 3, along with tater chips

For Dessert:

There is some cake, pies, cobblers, and some berries with your choice of cream or ice cream

Everyone keep as cool as possible, drink plenty of water, Gatorade, lemonade, whatever you can, to keep hydrated.
