WOW, I miss one day and all kinds of stuff is happening. We have new customers who need to hide under the table! There are threads I'm sure I saw yesterday morning that have disappeared! I missed all the excitement.
That was due to the fact I was unable to get my computer to perform satisfactorily until last night. I tried every trick I had ever heard from various "customer support" people, and I think I have things the way I want them. I am still not sure things are back 100% from where they were before Tuesday night's shut down, but I guess I will have to take things one day at a time to see if everything continues to work.
We are definitely not taking part in the North American heat wave. It is only 54° and partly cloudy at 1:15. We dropped down to lows of 50° the last two nights. I was talking with a neighbour, and we both agreed that if they took windchill readings in summer then the low two nights ago would have felt like it was down in the mid-forties. That was definitely below normal for this time of year.
That's all I've got for now, but I hope our new customers from yesterday stick around.

Grandpaw: this weather is getting old: I really feel for you in the mid west. Those heat indexs really are terrible. Here south of Atlanta the highs are 95 - 98 and lows at night around 75 -- 74.5 last night. It has been a constant 90 degrees + since Jun 1 -- maybe even into may.
Our day started out a bit after 7 and the instrument was displaying 82 degrees. 87 when I headed to bed last night at 12:45.
Of course it's still sticky and all potentials are present to be very near that 100 mark again today. Dry as a bone still....
Quentin
Good morning and peace be with you. Already 80 at 0800 in Carolina, headed for 100 again later. It topped out at 100 yesterday with a heat index of almost 110. No end is in sight.
Paula, beleving that your tests come back acceptable. I got mine back this week and they showed that everything was normal.
Even after our heavy rain last week, the grass hasn't grown much. The lawn guy came by Wednesday and said it looked like the last time he left after cutting it. He will be back next week to check it. At least it is green now instead of brown.
Everyone take care and stay as cool as possible.

Louisville, KY is a tad cooler this morning: 78 degrees, but with the h.i., feels like 80 something. Our projected high is 96 or 98, with scattered storms.
To those of you coming in to avoid the hot thread, welcome aboard. You can hide out in here anytime you want, and we'll be glad to have you join us.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. Breakfast is on the serving station.
I won't be back in until probably mid to late afternoon: today is the day I go back to the doctor for the results from my tests. So everyone have a good morning, keep cool and take care.
zugmann Murray: 96 and sunny here in Alamo City. 97 here. Go figure.

"Yes but..."
We had a great time. The thermometer was 100 degrees downtown. Riding overe the Arsenal double-decker bridge was a real treat. The Chinese loco pullled smoothly. The event had lots of volunteers to help the people in need. I may go back in the morning.
Murray 96 and sunny here in Alamo City.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.

When I was younger, I spent a month in Austin and SA in August. Nice country but tough getting into a parked car and sitting down.

schlimm We're not used to your Texas heat, Murray. Don't know how you stand it.
You get used to it after a while.
Its the lack of rain here thats really been hard on Texas.
We are off to Rock Island for the TrainFestival 2011. I'm not sure how well Barbara will do in the heat. We are taking plenty of water & a few pics.
Here in Louisville, our current temp is 91 degrees, with a heat index making it feel like 103 degrees. Saw a bicyclist riding his bike early this morning, about 8 a.m., and he was wiping his face with a towel.
Got some more salads on the serving station, along with apples, oranges, bananas, kiwi, papaya, plums, cherries, strawberries. Got a cooler set up with ice and a few watermelons in it cooling. Think our Dog Days of August came a tad bit early this year. And there's plenty of ice water, Gatorade, lemonade, iced tea, and other cold drinks (except alcoholic) for everyone to keep hydrated.
Appropriate for another hot day here in the Midwest, but I've dropped out of the discussion.

Wow....Lots of drama going on in the "Question to Moderators" thread.
....Seems today will be almost a repeat.
At 7:15 am....80 degrees Humidity: 83% Seems so "close" when walking out in it right away this morning. Won't be doing anything outside today.
Um, Mooks....Carefull there, they'll send one of those ethanol tankers to attack a train near your neighborhood. (Sitting on my hands as well)
Rain missed us yesterday. Hope the Mexican Monsoons are back this afternoon to cool us off and start the trip east. Saw an old UP GP-9 (former #611, now DRIR 1606) lay a smoke screen north of Denver yesterday on the old Rock Island Denver East Belt Line (somebody needs to change the rack setting on that 567).....Lots of concrete crossings "blowing up" (think vertical sun kink) in the heat.
ps - It's time for Uncle Pete's steam kettles and armour yellow varnish to make the Denver-Cheyenne Frontier Days run....
Murray Quentin...you mentioned that whe you were mowing you were mowin high. Is that around the 3 1/2 inch mark??????

Murray, my mower has been set at 3" for most of the Summer. Sometimes in the Spring, when we have so much water content in the grass, and it's growing fast, it might take a higher mowing height.
But, I'm of the opinion when we enter these very hot extended periods....Mowing at 3" seems about right. Longer grass under these conditions, {for me}, seems to allow it to survive better than being very short.
Zug: Awwww. Been my experience that orange tigers, especially males, have a very laid back temperment. We had a neighborhood one that would come when you whistled.
Tree: I want to stir the pot on the locked Nevada thread, but don't want to get into the pot to do it - so will just post here that we had an empty tractor trailer fall over and burn on the overpass that goes OVER the yards of BNSF. Wonder who they will blame for that?
Off to watch MOW work in direct sun and high heat. They are definitely more interesting than the roofers. At least they have jobs, but....
9 AM, 83 degrees, 57% RH. If it weren't for the brisk breeze and light overcast, it would already be intolerable. I can only guess that it will become so later in the day. We're still under an advisory.
Yep, orange tiger. Actually the 4th orange one we have in the house right now.
zugmann 930-10pmish, I was doubling out the manifest. 83 degrees on the ol' thermometer. And I also brought home one of the orange kittens that was living in our yard. ORCA guy said he was 6 weeks old, but he may only be 5.

Zugmann, if you didn't live so far from us, I'd ask you to get one of those little orange kitties for me. Are they, by chance, orange tiger striped kitties? We would love to have another one of them, but haven't found any around our area.
And good Thursday morning to everyone. 81 degrees and rising here in Louisville this morning. Skies are fair and we should reach a high of 97, 98 today. Heat index should range from 105 to 115.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go, and breakfast is on the serving station.
Everyone have a good morning, keep as cool as possible, and take care. See you all later.
