Not a bad day here today. The warmest I saw it was 73°. Now it is 68°, with a low of 55° forecast.
Due to delays caused by the Canadian postal strike, only today did I finally received my August issue of TRAINS. I was becoming concerned when I saw the advertising for the September issue start last week.
Regarding the mudslide I mentioned in my last post, it fell directly onto the Trans-Canada Highway. The CPR line was not affected.
Well, I guess that is all for now.

Almost a half inch of rain here before noon. Now the sun is out and the temp has gone up almost 20F...
Looks like the dealer finally fixed the problem with my truck, but until I put some miles on it, they can't do the state inspection. I'll be headed out shortly for a drive for that very purpose.
Later I've got to clean out the exhaust fan at our banquet hall - it's full of birds nest materials...

Good Monday morning everyone. 78 degrees here in Louisville this a.m., and a nice little breeze blowing outside. Our high today is to be 93, but with a tad bit lower humidity.

Some years ago Watertown, NY got a brief, but abundant, gusher of a rainstorm. It overwhelmed pretty much all regular drainage causing widespread flooding around the city.
Shortly after the rain ended, I was driving down a main street and was treated to the sight of a manhole cover nicely balanced on top of the gusher that was coming out of the manhole. It was a foot or two in the air, too...
AgentKid Murray: I just saw a news clip from Montreal...they had a rainstorm there...and it showed a car parked over a storm sewer. The sewer was gushing up with such force, that it literally picked the rear end of the car up into the air. Murray, that incident actually happened last Tuesday. Everyone who has seen it has talked about it. It is one of those tailor made water cooler topics. I suppose that fellow will have to have his fuel system flushed to remove trace amounts of water! CW, BBQ'ed steaks and corn on the cob sounds just great. I was overly pessimistic in my last post, it did make it to 70° yesterday. A bit cool for camping weather. There has been a mudslide across the Trans-Canada Highway at the Spiral Tunnel viewpoint, but I haven't yet been able to confirm if it affected the CPR mainline. The slide was caused by the excessive amount of rain this year. The highway has since reopened. Now it is time for supper! Bruce

Two days on the railroad, a midnight medical call, then at the fire station at 0600 to assist a neighboring fire department burn several old, tumble-down buildings. Home by 11, but then I had to wash everything (including me) to get the smell of smoke out.
Pizza was delish. A place in Old Forge that we hit often for supper has superb pizza. They also have a bowling alley. Maybe that's something we can add next time we remodel.....
Weatherguessers suggesting it may rain overnight. I hope so. Even my arborvitae are drooping...
.....We have received about an inch of rain in the past 24....And no storm with it. That's more rain than we've received in about a month.
That will bring the tractor to life on the lawn soon....

Not sure what our current temp is, here in Louisville, except hot. So, for our Sunday Dinner, here is what I've come up with:
1. Leftover cold pizzas from last night
2. Steaks, hot dogs, brats that have just come off the grill, with corn on the cob, baked beans, tossed salad and an assortment of fresh blueberries, cherries and peaches.
For Dessert: Strawberry or peach shortcake w/Redi Whip whipped cream, and we have plenty of homemade ice cream: whatever flavor you'd prefer, and a good selection of ice cream novelties. That should help keep us all cool!

Been ebaying a lot lately, trying to get some flthy lucre. Last night was a good night for purchases, but sales went nowhere. I ain't cut out to be a salesperson, I guess.

Good Sunday morning everyone. 80 degrees, and going for a high of 94 today; heat index will be between 100 & 105, according to the weather report I heard around 7:30. But tomorrow, our high is to only be 89, with a 40% chance of rain.
Speaking of rain, I saw on the news this morning, where our friends in Chicago got 7 inches of rain yesterday. Saw several vehicles stuck in water about half way up the sides of their vehicles, including a police car.
Joe, thank you very much for taking care of breakfast this morning! I really do appreciate all the help you and others give around here.
Yesterday afternoon, Sarah, Walt and I worked out in the front yard: picking up pine branches (and other branches that had blown into the yard Tuesday night); after we got the little stuff bagged up, Walt and I got the saw horses out, and he got his saw, and we cut up the big branches/limbs. Then the grass was cut and trimmed. Now our yard looks really good again, and is mostly green grass.

93 degrees with a heat index of 100 currently here in Louisville, KY. Only going to "cool down" to 80 degrees by morning. But we'll also have about a 30 - 40% chance of seeing some rain tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully, it'll be just rain, and no storms.

AgentKidCalgary is really not participating in the N.A. heat wave. It is really cool in the apartment today, and I checked on the Weather Network site to see why. We dropped down to 42° at 6:00 AM! It is 63° now (1:00 PM) and sunny, with a high of 70° forecast, but we still have a west wind so I wouldn't want to bet on it getting that warm. I was looking at a temperature gradient map Wednesday night and it gave me a funny thought. Regina, SK was not really that warm either, but between the Regina/Moose Jaw area and the Saskatchewan/North Dakota border it started to get real hot. The temperature lines were running almost perpendicular to the rail line down to the Twin Cities and Chicago. Back in the days before good air conditioning, someone riding south on the Soo-Dominion might start to become concerned by the time they got to the border, maybe a little scared going through ND, and thinking of taking a train back north by the time they got to the next State boundary! Who knew how hot it was going to be in the Twin Cities, and forget about Chicago.

AgentKidThat was due to the fact I was unable to get my computer to perform satisfactorily until last night. I tried every trick I had ever heard from various "customer support" people, and I think I have things the way I want them. I am still not sure things are back 100% from where they were before Tuesday night's shut down, but I guess I will have to take things one day at a time to see if everything continues to work.
Bruce, when all else fails a good 5 pound ballpeen hammer is usually effective.

.....Partly sunny so far today. Temps. in the lower 90's, but the humidity is still hammering us. 15 min. of rain yesterday, but with a dry spell like we're in, that won't last long.
But...We'll be glad to get any that comes our way. With all this heat and humidity, sure hope we don't get in the center of a nasty electrical display.

We're starting out with a temp of 81 degrees, already feels like 91 outside. Supposed to only reach 95 for a high this afternoon, which means the heat index will be about 105. Double yuck!!

15 min. of rain....Not much, but we need all we will get right now. But the radar shows, {for now}, that's it. Clear behind it.
Dropped the temp. one or two degrees....That won't last long. Was 98.
Well, made it home from the doctor's and totally good news: arteries are clear and heart is doing well. Don't have to see him again until January, unless I have any problems come up.
Our Friday Fish Fry is under way on the serving station. Along with the regular side dish menu and dessert menu.
I have no idea what our current temp & heat index is right now. Haven't heard, and haven't looked at the thermometer.
