Okay, guys, do I need to start making things in here sugar-free?  Or labeling what has sugar in it, and what is sugar-free?  I can do both.

Our regular Friday Fish Fry menu is now on the serving station.  Instead of the regular Friday desserts, tonight we have Jell-O w/whipped cream.  Think later on, I'll pop some popcorn.

It ended up being a very nice day around here.  The sun came out, and we ended up with a high of 37 degrees.  I think tomorrow, the weather guessers said we may see temps in the low to mid 40s!  Sarah even washed the salt and grime off the Jeep this afternoon.

Everyone have a  good evening, enjoy your meal, take care, and I'll see you later, or else in the morning.

Oy, what a day.  earlier had 81,250 lbs to coax over the West Virginia Turnpike, seems the scale at the shop in Trenton was about 1600 lbs off, and not in my favor.  I hate going around scales, good thing I don't do it often.....

Was up in some of that cold last weekend, was -10 in Trenton, OH when I rolled in at 7am EST last Saturday, found out the beer load i picked up was not fitted with a heater to keep it from freezing.  Got lucky, it was still liquid when I delivered on Monday.

Well, whenever MillerCoors in Eden finishes my load for Westfield, MA, off to there for Monday, then to figure out how to avoid the snowstorm going that way come midweek and get home at the same time.  Should be a fun week ....

Good Saturday morning everyone.  Gnrygrandson, Welcome to the forums and the Flat Wheel Cafe!  We're always glad to see new people join us around these parts!

Randy, sounds like you've had an interesting week, and will have an interesting(?) week ahead.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  regular Saturday brunch menu, ranging from bagels, bear claws, biscuits, gravy, bacon, sausage, fried country ham w/red eye gravy, scrambled eggs, to several different kinds of fruit.  Should be something for everyone on there this morning.

Our current temp is 32 degrees, may reach about 41 degrees for a high today.    Hope you all have a very good day, take care and I'll see you all later this evening, for our Saturday Pizza Fest.

Back from breakfast and train watching:  watched a GP28 move around 2 9's.  Looked like a tug boat pushing around the QE2.  They were being shoved into the diesel shop.

Cold, but sunny.  Not much wind, so nice day.  Randy - I heard today that Chopped Pig Day may be a big blizzard, so you run hard and we will run to the grocery store and maybe we will all miss being out in it.

Blah - Blindfold  How much longer....?

CW - the diner is always sugar-free or sugar, sugar - tailored to each need.  We can eat tofu and wash it down with Mt Dew if we want.   Thumbs Up

Mookie, sounds like you've had a pretty good day, train watching!

Here's our pizza menu for tonight:

1.  Canadian bacon

2.  Cheese

3.  Chicago style

4.  Goetta

5.  Hawaiian

6.  Italian sausage

7.  Pepperoni/mushroom

8.  Supreme

I haven't heard what our official high was for today; but a couple of hours ago, when I looked at our outdoor thermometer, it was reading 55. something degrees.  When I just got on the computer, it shows current temp as 50 degrees.  It's been a beautiful day!

Who would like to have popcorn and hot chocolate or cider later on tonight?

Good Sunday morning everyone.  Joe, thanks for taking care of breakfast this morning.  I decided to sleep in a little bit; didn't wake up until 6:15 or after.  Moving a bit slow this a.m.

Everyone have  a good morning, and if anyone has any special requests for Sunday Dinner, just let me know.  Take care and see you all later.

....Sunshine is shining in my eastern office window here after the fog has thinned.  Mod. temps this morning.  Snow was melting yesterday.

Now.....A massive storm is heading east that is producing sleet, ice, rain and much snow....Right now it appears it is headed right for us.  And very well might produce for us:  sleet...icing...and much snow.

The weather people are saying...."this is a very large system", so it appears this will be the big one {so far}, this season.  Lots of snow overall for many this Winter.

Now...must get ready for Church.   Probably Texas Road House after that {this afternoon}, for the Sunday meal.

Hope the people prepare for this weather system that happen to be on it's approaching path.

Going out into the world, sunny and cold, for awhile since will be housebound for 2-3 days.

Watched a little news this morning on the snow in the northeast.  If they could get all that into the ocean, we could see a water level rise....Smile, Wink & Grin

Later....

Hmm, I think I'm definitely going to have to watch the news tonight, just to check out the weather (or turn the TV channel to The Weather Channel) for this coming week.

Here is our Sunday Dinner menu:

1.  Grilled pork chops w/baked tateror steak fries, tossed  salad, or Caesar salad, green beans or baked beans and apple sauce

2.  Country fried chicken w/any of the above sides

3.  Steak kibobs w/steak, onion, mushroom, tomato, red & green peppers, and seasoned rice (or any of the above mentioned sides)

Hope you all enjoy, have a good afternoon, and take care.

FYI for any of the NL cam watchers:  Owl was on limb in #8 about 12:30am - their time (about 5:30 p CST)  It has the face of a barn owl and a trill for a call - sounding like an odd telephone that just keeps ringing.  He doesn't stay long - only about 10 min, but think he may be looking at rental property in the box.

Since I had a big lunch, will go make a PB&J for supper.  Have a banana and an orange to go with it.

Later....

Probably morning in NL now.  I'm headed for bed.

Back from Springfield and what is touted to be the largest model railroad show in the country.

Even made an appearance on the local news!

Those poor folks are sweating a weather forecast the suggests they may get another 18" of snow this week.  The have precious few places left to put the stuff.

Good Monday morning everyone.  Larry, looks like a good time was had by all!

Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Usual breakfast menu on the serving station.

We currently have 30 degrees (at last check a few minutes ago), and supposed to drop another degree, then going for a high of 41 degrees.  No supposed to get any precip today.  Light rain for tomorrow, then heavy rain tomorrow night, into Wednesday morning.  Then the rain will change over to snow.  May see about 1/2 in to 1 in of snow.

Everyone have a good morning, take care and see you all later.

.........Sunshine in the east office window now, and 17 degrees about an hour or so ago.

But....We're waiting, anticipating the eastward bound super Winter storm.  Latest weather map projection, has the middle of it passing thru in upper Indiana, but they are still saying bad stuff for here, enough to bring down power lines, etc....It's too fresh in our minds yet what happened here back in Jan. of 2005....No power for 5 days here, and 125,000 without power in the Muncie area for up to 10 days.

Wouldn't mind the heavy snow, but ice, we {humans}, can't deal with that to keep utilities intact.

So we stand by...{after visiting the grocery}, yet this morning, probably with lots of other people.....Have all my stuff on "charge", now that is rechargeable.  Cell phone, etc....12 vt. power unit...flashlights, and have several LED flashlights now, which last longer.....and have a fluorescent light powered by D cells that is ready to go to work.  The problem is heat.....with an electric home.

Looks to have gotten in the the mid-teens below zero here this AM.  But the sun is out in full force!

The Amherst club show at Springfield saw an official gate of just over 20,000 for the two days - and that doesn't count the vendors and folks who may have slipped in.  It's reportedly one of the biggest such shows in the country.

Now it's time to recover and sort stuff out.

MC, you certainly have changing weather. We woke to a gray day, with the temperature about 30oF. We received a light snow which, as I was out and about, gathered in strange ways on sidewalks–there would be clear places (both in shaded spots and in unshaded spots) and accumulations (both in shaded spots and in unshaded spots); I do not recall seeing such before. Perhaps this "storm" will clear the atmosphere of the muck that had settled in. We are promised, according to one weather guesser (who usually guesses lower that realized temperatures) a low of +8o in the morning.

I feel for the people who have been overwhelmed by the snow that they have received.

We are going on, from day to day. Ricki has been helped by physical therapy at home (I brought her home four weeks ago tomorrow), but it will probably come to an end soon, as Insurance will do only so much.

The last weather update I heard, at noon:  light rain beginning sometime later tonight, switching to heavy rain during the day tomorrow.  Then, it may switch over to light snow.  If we get any accumulation, maybe between 1/2 to an inch.   Quentin, your predicament is exactly why I prefer gas for home heating and cooking.

Been busy doing laundry, so lunch/supper is going to kind of on the light side, in the way of:

Sloppy joes w/fries and garden salad.

Everyone take care, keep as warm as you can, and hope those of you in the path of this storm/blizzard have kept your snow shovels/snow blowers handy.  It sounds like you will be needing them again.

Nothing wrong with that supper!

Going through my purchases from the show.  Lots of work to do...

One fellow was selling etched brass kits - talk about impressive!

You could find just about anything railroad there, either in scale or real.  You couldn't buy them, but the show was right across from the CSX Springfield yard...

Johnny, what you have there is Canadian Prairie style snow. It is so dry it doesn't stick to anything, and it drifts like fine sand wherever the wind blows it. We will get snow like that until mid-March or so, before the moisture content rises and it starts to stick in place where it falls. That is why it seems to people not from here that we are not getting huge accumulations of snow, but it is enough to create blizzards, and whiteouts. Drifting and blowing snow that will disorient you.

I am getting in here late today. the temperature has risen to -4° F. in a cloudless sky. I was up earlier, about 5:00 AM, and it was -22° F. We ended up with a fair amount of snow over the last three days, but not as much as the guessers were projecting. After a snowstorm like that, when the clouds clear out and the new layer of snow on the ground, the temperature just bottoms out. So in the last 5 days, if you are keeping score, we have gone from a high of 54° to a low of -22°, with a three day snow storm in the middle.

My former team did not do well in the Curling on the weekend. They failed to win a single game. So with the snow tapering off on Sunday morning and the roads still not fully plowed, I did not go down to see who won the event, but the team that was undefeated at the end of Saturday's games likely won the final playoff game.

The two fifty degree days last week didn't do the Curling Club any good. The roof sprung multiple leaks, and where the water would drip onto the ice it would form frozen mounds on the ice about 6" high. Just like little stalactites I think they are called. One lady said we could invent a new game, "Bumper Curling". It meant that some games were canceled because those sheets were unusable. You had to walk around pails set up in the viewing lounge. One fellow speculated it might cost $150,000 to fix the roof.

Saw Larry on the video link.

Looks like I will have to go out later to pick up some groceries.

Bruce - Bread (any kind) and 1% milk - overnite to Lincoln NE.

Sir C - We are going to win the lottery and then move to AZ - that seems to be where all our bad storms start.  That way, we will be on the backside of any storms and won't have to go thru this mess.

So far, just glare ice, but next mess moving in from - see above -

Housebound until at least Thursday now.

Filed income taxes today.  I hate that - I don't care if you write them out in crayon, e-file or send it by mental telepathy - it is a pain.  Credit this, credit that, exempt that!  Just keep the taxes and leave me alone!

Thanks, Bruce. First, when we moved out here back in '74, I was introduced to powder snow, which I have come to like much better that ordinary snow since it does not clog the exit of the mechanical snow thrower. Then, I learned all about lake effect snow, which comes from the Great Salt Lake (if the wind is right, we can get more snow than Salt Lake City gets, and perhaps as much as one of the ski resorts gets). Now, I have learned about Canadian Prairie style snow. The snowfall did continue into late morning, and covered our sidewalk and street completely--and after the sun came out while we were eating lunch it all melted away from the paved surfaces.

A more reliable weather guesser says to look for + 10 (-12.22222) tomorrow morning--and 0 (-17.77778) Wednesday morning (I don't know how to produce the standard notation for the repeating decimal--a bar over the first part of the decimal that can be repeated into infinity). Do you have some warm weather you can send us?Smile

My former team did not do well in the Curling on the weekend. They failed to win a single game. So with the snow tapering off on Sunday morning and the roads still not fully plowed, I did not go down to see who won the event, but the team that was undefeated at the end of Saturday's games likely won the final playoff game.

I'm sorry to hear that; perhaps with your support they will do better next season.

The difference between stalaCtites and stalaGmites? I learned (when I was in grammar school, I think) that stalaCtites come down from the Ceiling, and stalaGmites come up from the Ground. I am not sure, but when they meet they become a column.

Our weather predictions are grim:  Any amount of sleet....ice....combination of both....and of course snow up to anybodies guess.

It's just started to put something down now....

If we get what they are telling us , computers in this area {might be / will be}, quiet....Power lines in peril.

We went thru "the ice storm" 5 years ago in January, and we'd certainly not like to even come close to repeating that....but that's the possibility.

Stores {all kinds}, were overloaded today.....Food we have....and have drawed many gallons of water....but heat we have no backup.  Neighbor across the street has a wood burning stove.....
