Morning all!

Good to be back in here. We have been so busy these last few days! We put in a new garage door, put in new countertops, and a new sink. Also I’m mowing my grandpa’s yard to earn a little bit of money this summer. That’s why I haven’t been on much, and I sure hope none of you take it personally, I just haven’t had time to.

Well, with that off my chest it is another gorgeous day here in western Indiana. 57* here and I think it will get warmer. I do have another new photo to show you all. I hope you like it. We can frame it, and hang it on the wall if you want.

ON second thought. Something seems to be wrong w/my PC. It says there is something wrong with the “/” in my server of something like that. Hummm…

See you all later!

Justin

Hey there!  Welcome back, everyone!  I'm with you guys:  I really missed trains.com being down.   Looks like things are running smoothly with the new software system:  it only took a couple of seconds for the site to come up, and get logged in.

Joe, thanks for taking care of breakfast this morning.  You are a godsend around here!!

I think we'll celebrate being back, by having a grill out today:  The grills are already going, and on the serving station you'll find:  steaks, burgers, brats, hot dogs, pork chops, (and a grilled roast for tonight), along with baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, grilled 'baked' potatoes and tossed salad.

For dessert:  chocolate cake w/white icing, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, strawbery cheesecake and cherry cheesecake.

Now, guess I'd better get ready and go to the grocery store, to get some food for us for this next week.    Everyone have a great afternoon ,and take care.

Afternoon all....

Did the trifecta of big cities this week, New York, Boston, and DC/Baltimore.  Don't care for all three of them, but the waterfront in Boston was pretty.  (Note to self:  Do NOT do the George Washington bridge at 9am local time, it's not pretty!)

Waiting for the Budweiser distributor to open, so I can unload and head to Lipton in Suffolk, VA to pick up a load for the St. Louis area for later in the week, by then it will be time to find a shop to get my truck serviced (or maybe get a new one, I'm hoping).

Impressed with how fast they got this up and running, now, if I can get Pilot Travel Centers to clean up their internet servers so the speed comes up, I'll be happy.  Can't call it high speed when it's slower than dial up.....

From Colonial Heights, VA, see everyone later.....

Randy - You might like the Inner Harbor in Balto, too.

I absent-mindedly hit the "Trains Forum" in my favorites - and got the "closed" banner.  All better now...

Nice day outside, but I've got a couple of deadlines to hit, so I'm stuck inside.  Still got all summer!

Got fresh grilled meat, pork, poultry, veggies, etc., on the serving station for tonight.  Joe, fixed you some containers for work tonight.  Hope you enjoy!

Randy, hope you don't have to come through our area over this next weekend:  it's Thunder over Louisville, and starting, probably Thursday, they'll start closing/limiting traffic in several areas, so they  can get the fireworks set up on the Clark Memorial (2nd St.) Bridge, for the Air Show Saturday afternoon, and the evening's fireworks display.  Can you tell it is getting close to Derby Time?!?!  Three weeks from yesterday.

Everyone have a great evening, and I'll see you all in the morning.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  What a beautiful weekend we had here in the Ohio Valley.  The only thing that wasn't beautiful, was all the grass and tree pollen around.

Coffee, juices, hot water for tea, iced tea (sweet & unsweeetened), are fresh and ready to go.  There's also apple cider and Gatorade.

On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon ,sausage, scrambled eggs, made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy.

My wish this morning is for all of you to have a great day, be safe and take care.

Afternoon all.

Today I went to this really cool place called the Reality Fair. It is like this simulation of real “Life” I ended up coming out on in the black, but it makes a person relies that you can’t just go out and buy whatever you want.

Have a good evening.

Justin - Just imagine that the virtual stock market just took a dive and ate up all that "money" you ended up with....

We're dealing with the second firefighter fatality in a little over a year here.  A silo exploded while he was on top of it.  Memorial service is Thursday.

Finished my printing jobs.  Time to get some household chores done.

A silo "exploded"?  Wow, I didn't know that that could happen...

More often than you think, especially with dust explosions. Somehow Tree, I don't like visualizing the chain of events that puts anybody on top of a silo under questionable circumstances.

The sugar factory explosions at Scottsbluff NE are the more dramatic stories, but any time you get particulates in suspension and then introduce a spark from an electric motor....

The fire in the silo probably was the result of the adjacent barn burning a couple of days earlier.  The silo in question was an "oxygen-limiting" type (the blue ones).  Absolutely nothing has been released about the events leading up to the explosion, but based on information on the web, some conclusions could be drawn.  They would be guesses, at best, at this point, though.

Stories, with images of the silo:

Larry, looks like what happened was a leak in the steel shell of the silo, allowing oxygen into the silage inside, causing rapid fermentation (and a lot of heat).  Might have gotten hot enough for the silage to spontaneously combust, and it was possibly a backdraft situation that caused the explosion.  I do remember from a barn fire about 10 years ago, the fire department was quick to seal up any cracks in the walls, to keep oxygen out.  Silos are still standing, though the farmer did not rebuild the barn.  I'm not an expert on this, just my opinions and theories.....

Usually, the big problems with silos are the gases put off by fermentation, which are deadly.  Back when dad farmed, when we were filling silo, and needed to throw some down to feed cows, we fired up the silo blower about half speed to provide airflow.  Only had to do this with standard concrete stave silos, the Harvestores were bottom unloading only.

Anyway, got to Waddy, KY today, though now I'll have to find a tire shop in the morning, picked up a bolt in a drive tire, not leaking yet, though.  No big deal.

Well, off to bed, see everyone later.....

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  We have a current temp of 60 degrees, going for a high of 80 today.  It's going to be a nice morning for Tuesday Produce.

Larry, I'm so sorry to hear about the firefighter.  My sincere condolences to his family (personal and firefighter family.

Coffee, juices, teas (iced, sweet, unsweet) are fresh and ready to go.  Got hot water ready for our hot tea drinkers.

On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon ,sausage, eggs, biscuits & gravy.

Well, Sarah went back to work last night cubbing.  Guess she'll be home around 8 this morning.

Dan, yeah, some ladies will be putting their fancy hats on in a couple of weeks.  And, of course, we'll see the mens' hats, the funny hats (you know, the ones with the tubes coming out of them, so they  can drink their beer or whatever).

Everyone have a great morning, and I'll see you all after Produce, and in between exercise rounds.

We had a beautiful morning yeserday, with the temperature about fifty. Yesterday the weatherliars predicted much colder, with rain out in the valley, light snow on the benches, and much snow in the mountains. This morning: thirty-five--and snow on the ground in mid-valley. I haven't heard or seen any report on snow quantity on the benches or in the mountains. It's bright and sunny now.

Produce went well this morning.  Truck came a little bit early this morning, but not quite as early as last Tuesday.  They delivered lettuce, onions, potatoes, yellow crook-neck squash, zuchinni, apples and fresh mushrooms.  Had 59 people show up, and there was no food left today, to give to the people who would be coming in for their Dare to Care food boxes.

I've got our regular Tuesday Mexican Fiesta on the serving station:

Burritos (beef, beef & bean, beef burrito deluxe), Tacos (hard shell & soft shell), Chimichangas, Fajitas (beef and chicken), Spanish rice, along with several other Mexican dishes.

Even though we started out this morning, with a temp of 60 degrees, by the time I left the house at 7:58, the temp had dropped to 54 degrees.  We don't usually see a 6 degree drop temp wise in the mornings after sunrise.  I'm glad I went ahead and put on a lightweight sweat jacket.

Hope you all enjoy your afternoon, and I'll be checking in periodically this afternoon.  Take care, everyone!

Sir C - actually got to watch a few minutes of Harsco work.  How they grind and then lift the grinding wheels to go over the grade xing.  It was very interesting.  Easier to see than other forms of grinders.

Someone in the know down there said they have been working the southbound tracks for 2 days now.  (Those are the ones they seem to have the most trouble on!)

Lotsa fun to watch 'em at night. Just stand well in the clear before one of those stones goes flying or you get burned by Speno droppings. (500 feet away is almost too close)

Still has the ex-L&N Alco slug in the consist? (used to have a satellite dish on top)

Methinks we now know where the bulk of the coal trains go!Wink....If you had a scanner, you could learn some new "choice" words from the dispatcherLaugh

Got the next round of Tuesday Mexican Fiesta on the serving station.

Now to go do my fun thing:  my back exercises.

Mooks and Da chicken are going to have to soft pedal it around here for a while. Seems that Foxxy and her two kits have moved-in up the street under the front porch of the Denver K-9 cop. The Malinois and the retired German Shepherd there have got to be watching carefully. My 3 guyz (Da Boyz) alerted to their presence during their evening stroll. Rabbits suddenly got scarce.

Mooks: look familiar in dirty blue?
