Raining this AM - hopefully it'll hold off for a few so I can walk down and check the mail.  It's a bit cool for keeping the windows open at the moment, however.

Not much on the agenda today.  Tomorrow will be a long day - drive 2 1/2 hours to Saranac Lake to refresh on the NORAC rules so I can keep 'workin' on the railroad.'  Then drive 2 1/2 hours home...

Q - we have magnolia trees in Nebraska.  Should never have happened.  They are so beautiful when the bloom, which they did about 5 days ago.  They lasted mmm- about 2 days.  Spring means wind here, so they looked beautiful on the trees for such a short time and now decorate the lawns of everyone who has one.

We should have plastic magnolias with scent bottles attached!  Approve

Therapy went well this morning.  They managed to get me in early, as my ride showed up over an hour early!!  When I got there, I told them I didn't mind sitting there and wait until my appointed time.  But they must have had someone not show up, because it wasn't long before they called me back.

Mookie, personally, I like your idea of opening a can or two of tuna and making some tuna salad, but I don't know about others around here!  So, I've gotten the fish fried, and here is today's menu:

Fish:  cod, perch salmon patties, jumbo butterfly shrimp, popcorn shrimp, clam cakes

Side Dishes:  Cole slaw, corn on the cob, baked beans, tossed salad, macaroni & cheese, fries, hush puppies, fresh baked cornbread

Desserts:  Chocolate cake w/white icing, Yellow cake w/chocolate icing, Yellow cake w/caramel icing, pecan pie, and the following cobblers:  apple, cherry, blueberry and cherry; plus ice cream to go along with all the desserts.

The dog and I are the only ones home who are awake.  Sarah and the two cats are sleeping, and Walt has ridden his bike to the library.  He's read all his books, so needed to go stock up on reading material.

Mookie, I would love to have a laptop!  That way, I could be on the puter the same time Walt is on the desktop, and neither of us would have to worry about getting done, so the other one could use the puter.

The sun is shining brightly, and the wind is blowing!  Also hear the big jets going over the house.  They must be taking some practice maneuvers, getting ready for tomorrow's air show.  Anyone who wants to see the list of what we'll be seeing tomorrow, go to:  www.courier-journal.com, and you'll see the schedule.

Everyone enjoy your afternoon, and take care.  See you all later.

.....Oh yes Jen....Today as we came back to the house and pulled up to the mail box, opened the truck window....and with some wind today, blossoms blew inside the truck.  I too wish they would be longer lasting.  Pretty and with fragrance, but they do vanish with any wind....

Thought we would get a hard rain mid day today as the wind really came up like a cold front passing thru with rain to follow, but it was just a very few drops.  Now, still a bit windy, but sun is shining again....and cooler.  To be cooler for a day or two.

We've been into almost Summer temps.

A friend of mine who lives out in Spearfish, South Dakota sent me an email this morning, and in that email there were three pictures from a truck/train collision which involved the Canadian Pacific at Barrett, Minnesota, 12/14/07.

The lead locomotive in this CPR train slammed into a truck which had apparently tried to beat it to the crossing. And guess what the truck was carrying? 156,000 eggs!! Can you imagine how bad that would begin to smell in 90+ heat had this happened in the summer? I would have included the pictures with this post if I knew how to do that, but I will forward it to a number of people who normally read this thread.

Hello, down there......

About 75 or so on top of the mountain in Pioneer, TN, not too bad out, have the windows and vents all open.  Supposed to rain later, and get cooler, tomorrow should be in the 60s.  Monday will be service day for me, and also to look into an overheating issue, can't run the A/C with a load if it's over 75-80, and the water temp shot past 200 pulling a hill with only 3500lb in the box, and I turned on the engine fan to cool it back down.  Thinking either the radiator is plugged, or the water pump on the engine is starting to fail.  At 695,000 miles, it's probably in need of one.

Should be by the house on Sunday, to sign a letter of intent to buy a house (needed before end of month to get that homebuyer's credit), and look over my new locomotives, three WC SD45s from Athearn, I now have both Operation Lifesaver units from Wisconsin Central.

We can use some of that rain yall are getting. The state has issued a burning notice stating that conditions are getting dangerous when burning things. The next thing will be a red flag alert which bans burning. Permits are always required nowadays to burn anything.

Have not had a great day, and am thinking of lying back down.

Speaking of magnolia trees, did you know a seed will not germinate till it's been through a bird? My mother planted several of the things when I was young, and we now have a number of them.

Everyone take care

Tom

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  52 degrees, sunny skies, going for a high around 63, maybe get to 65 this afternoon.  On the news this morning, already seeing people setting up their spots for the Air Show and Fireworks.  The Air show starts at 3 p.m, and goes to about 9:30, when the Fireworks show starts.  Saw the people in coats, jackets and blankets this morning!

Tom, hope you start feeling better today!

The coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  turkey bacon, pork sausage links & patties, scrambled eggs, country fried steak and pork chops, buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, grits, oatmeal, toast, pancakes, waffles, jams, jellies, maple syrup.  There's a wide variety for you all this morning.  And for Mookie, bagels, and for Larry, bear claws.

We did manage to get some rain last night.  Around 6:30, it was absolutely pouring, coming from the north.  Walt had to go upstairs and shut the window at the top of the stairs, and the window in our bedroom.  Forunately, he had already brought the American Flag in, as it was blowing all over.  Didn't want it get tattered!

You all enjoy your breakfast, have a good day, and take care.

Tom, if you or anyone else would like to take a peak at it, just go to:  wave3.com, and you might be able to see some of it.  I know right now, they're telecasting the Air Show.  (Walt is in the living room watching it, and I'm here at the puter, turning around in the puter chair to catch glimpses of it!)

Here's our Saturday Night Pizza Fest Menu (and hopefully enough of you will come in to make my efforts worth while!):

1.  Canadian bacon

2.  Cheese w/extra cheese

3.  Goetta

4.  Hawaiian

5.  Pepperoni/mushroom

6.  Pepperoni/sausage/onion

7.  Italian

8.  Supreme

Everyone enjoy your pizzas, and have a good afternoon/evening.  And stay warm, if your temps are cooling off like ours are (supposed to get down into the 40s tonight/in the morning).  Take care, you all!

Wow, I know it was a nice day, if a tad cool, didn't get over 60 on the way up to Hebron, IN.  Tomorrow morning should be a quick 2.5 hours to the house, even with a bit of a walk from the truck lot to the apartment.

Well, I'll take some of the Canadian bacon for dinner, see everyone later....

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  The fireworks did go off last night, albeit after a delay in the countdown.  Aparently, one of the barges' computer system had a malfunction.  But they got everything in sync, and no more glitches.  Ended up being a pretty good show, as usual.  The three of us watched it on the TV here at home.

Randy, hope you enjoyed the pizza and took some home with you.

Not sure what the current temp is this morning, but it's very cool, when I stepped out on the porch and went down the steps to retreive the paper.  And I know it's supposed to be a pretty cool day again.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go, including hot water for our hot tea drinkers.

On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws and an assortment of doughnuts, rolls, danish.

Everyone enjoy your morning:  people going to Church, work, or just out and about.

Randy - congrats on new house!  Now you will know what you are doing the rest of your life - making house payments?  Approve

I finally had to call our landlord on our "quiet" neighbors.  One of them has a friend that visits occasionally and thinks the "music' needs to be louder than normal.  It only happens when he visits and long story short - there was no reasoning, so phone call was made.  Instant quiet!  Ahhh....

Wanted to watch Cops last nite, but ended up watching the final inning of a 7 hour baseball game.  Only took them 20 innings to completely wipe out an evening's worth of entertainment.  Wasn't that good of a game, either!

Nice day coming.  Haven't heard any trains calling, so will have to go investigate.....

Not much going on around here (Cafe and here at home) this afternoon.  Had a very bad sinus headache this morning, so went back to bed.  Still have a little bit of a headache, but it's not pounding like it was this morning.  That, along with a chest cold, does not make for a good day.

Our Sunday Dinner menu:

Meat loaf w/green beans, mashed taters, gravy, tossed salad and cornbread.

Dessert:  Chocolate cake w/vanilla ice cream (or whatever flavor you like, in the freezer)

Have a good afternoon, and everyone take care.

Mud and Mook:  Haven't bought it yet, yust want to sign a letter of intent so I can still get the homebuyers credit, but yes, will have a place to store my toys, and a full basement for a layout.....

Home now, more comfortable than a sleeper, and only half hour from the customer for tomorrow.  New locomotives look very nice, as do the piggyback flats.  Can now do a Wisconsin Central intermodal train, now need a bunch of trailers to put on the flats.....

May be in for dinner, but sister is making meatloaf for dinner, so will be a hard choice.....

Looooong drive yesterday.  About two and a half hours each way, on a curvy state road.  On the good side, the scenery (western Adirondacks) was spectacular, when the sun wasn't in my eyes.  Of course that wasn't a problem on the way home, as it rained the whole way (at least the snow that fell while I was in Saranac Lake didn't stick.

I'm pretty sure I passed all the rules tests, so I'm good for another year on the railroad.

Headed for the PBS station tonight for the annual merchandise auction.  Always a good time, and way too much food...

Good Monday morning, everyone; and, Welcome back Bob!  Hope you all had a great time on your vacation.  I still have a touch of the sinus headache.  Not too bad, yet, this morning, so I'm at least coping.  Still sneezing, too, but the cough has let up quite a bit.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go, and there's plenty of hot water for our hot tea drinkers.  On the serving station this morning:  all the regular weekday breakfast menu items, including bagels and bear claws.

It looks like it's going to be a pretty day, after the sun comes up, and we'll probably top out today with a high around 63 degrees.

Everyone have a good morning, and take care.

Hello Americans, it's Monday. A half hour before sunrise, it's 44 and clear in Carolina. Not sure of the high today, but it is likely to be a really nice day.

I feel good enough, for a change, to make a sortie to the grocery store later. I will try to do some other errands at the time and kill two stones with one bird.

Since I'm not able to any yardwork, we are waiting for the grass cutting guy to make an appearance. We had a miscommunication and each of us was waiting for the other to call. The grass is really growing fast. Last night, we had a possum show up and he could almost have hidden in the stuff. The girls put him up a tree and shouted insults at him for a while!

Thanks for breakfast, Paula. Have a great day

Tom

Well, got several errands to run this afternoon, so decided to go ahead and post the meals menu for this afternoon and evening.

There's plenty of meat loaf, etc., left from our Sunday Dinner, and everything that needs to warmed is taken care of, and is now on the serving station.  Salad's in the cooler.

After I posted this morning, the "people in the know" updated the predicted high to today.  Now, it's supposed to be 65 degrees, if not a degree or two warmer.  With plenty of nice sunshine, maybe we'll see the temp pushing 70.

Everyone have  a great afternoon, and see you all later.  OH, and Tom, glad to hear you're feeling better.  You all take care, and see you all later.
