Walt trimmed the small burning bush

We have a burning bush, too. At least, that's what we call it, though it is actually an Alberta Spruce. After we moved in (in 1974), and the weather turned cool enough to warrant a fire in the living room fireplace, we saw a reflection of the fire, in a window, superimposed on the bush. It's now a tree, higher than the bottom of the eaves, and I have to keep it trimmed away from the house to satisfy the insurance company.

I saw my first robin at noon today, when I returned from the grocery store. He hopped into the carport, and was loathe to leave and let me drive on in.

We expect more snow tonight and tomorrow--perhaps I will be able to use my snowthrower after all this snow season. Wednesday was nice and warm--up about sixty--but yesterday and today were cold-- lows about thirty and highs below fifty--and we expect such through Sunday. The grass may need cutting in a week or so.

Yeserday, I missed the move to new digs, and was wondering this morning why I had so few new email messages. What's the decor?

Afternoon all.

What a marvelous day it has been! In fact, it has been incredibly nice the past 4 days! We mowed the yard for the first time in 2010 yesterday. I have good news today: I received the A-B Honor roll! I will get to eat lunch with my 4th hour teachers because of that.Approve Anyhow, Just wanted to say hi, and get some supper.

See you all later.

Justin

Mookie

It's 58, cloudy and very nice.  Snow staying in So Dak; rain in KS; zip in NE except for maybe a stray shower.  That's fine.

Brian - I have met you, so think you and Tree could very well see eye-to-eye.

CW - yesss - to the patio - have already heard some train activitiy.

MC - should we "otter" be looking?  Sorry BC - this one was mine.  You get the next one.  Think also that the the businesses that clean up after wrecks and rebuild or repair railroad cars should have seen their stocks rise considerably.  Seems to be a rather nasty time of year.

CW - stay home and just wait.  They will come eventually.  Some regularly; some just out of curiosity.

Tree - had a good scenerio for you here in town and se NE yesterday.  Telephone switch and backup switch failed.  Took out a huge part of the city - including 911 for 11 hours.  Had the ham operators mobilized, cell phones handling what they could and me - oblivious that the Driver was trying to call me and geting a busy signal.  He finally went to the one sure place he could get me - e-mail!  Big Smile

As usual, the outages we have are always on a beautiful sunny day.  Squirrel chewed thru line; switch failure; cable cut.  Some brainiac will decide beautiful sunny days are bad for communications and elec/gas and will want to outlaw them.

Good Friday to all....

"Snow staying in South Dakota?" Mookie, I don't think so! And there certainly isn't any here in Minnehaha County where I live. It's been a bit cold here today, but yesterday it was really nice up here in Sioux Falls. We do have a lot of standing water in our farmer's fields, and I noticed that while on the way home from Wyoming on Saturday, the 13th of March.

We had a similar problem last fall (on an otherwise nice day, too).  Construction crew took out a fiber optic line which took out phone (landline and cell), Internet, and who knows what else in about half of the county.  Volunteer fire stations were manned and people were instructed to go there to report emergencies.  I don't think anything untoward happened.

Oddly, it seems that in times of adversity, the "routine" calls tend to drop off.   We're busy with the storm, etc calls, but not the normal stuff.

Came to the conclusion today that it's time for the Dalmatian to go "over the rainbow."  Very tough decision, as any pet owner knows, but he's virtually helpless - no strength/control of his hind legs.  I often find him where he collapsed, to weak to get up on his own.

Gotta call the vet on Monday.

Yes, we pet owners understand that is the time in a pet owner / pet's life, that is so sad to face....But all pet owners understand why it has to be done.  No other acceptable way out...

Larry, that is how Buddy was; totally unable to get up. We asked the vet to come out and take him, since there was no way I could get him up from the basement and out to the car. We have missed him greatly, and I know you will miss the Dal even if you get another dog. Sad

Good Saturday morning.  Larry, so very sorry to hear about the Dal.  That is the same problem our Win-Win is having:  loss of control in her hind legs.  So far, she can still get herself up.  We will be thinking of you Monday.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:

Country fried ham w/red eye gravy, fried taters, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, pancakes, bagels, bear claws, cinnamon rolls:  a little something for everyone this morning.

We have a temp of about 60 degrees this morning, looking for a high of about 68, with a fairly good chance of rain/thunder showers around 10 a.m. this morning.  They are saying it should clear out, so the kids can hunt Easter Eggs outside tomorrow.

For our Easter Sunday Dinner tomorrow, would you like like ham, roasted chicken or turkey?  Need to know, so I can start preparing it all for tomorrow.

Everyone enjoy your breakfast, and your day.  See you all around 6, 7 p.m. for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest.

CW - I vote for an Easter egg....Thumbs Up

Ray - other end of SD - map showed snow/mix all over the western end.  Pretty clear today.

Put your rain bonnet on CW - looks like you & Q are going to get wet.

Larry, sorry to hear about the Dal...

As most have guessed, yesterday would have been Jack Webb's 90th birthday,  Radio Classics on Sirius XM was celebrating with episodes of Dragnet, Pat Novak for Hire, and other shows starring Jack, plus interviews with the woman who played Ma Friday and the man who wrote his biography.

About 55 and cloudy here, got some rain overnight, supposed to clear up today, but still be windy.

See everyone later......

Larry,

I'm very sorry to hear about the Dalmatian. Just remember the poem "The Rainbow Bridge."

How about roast chicken for Easter, CW? Something a little different than the norm.

Larry, I too am sorry to hear that you are going to have to put your Dalmation to sleep. I know it is a most difficult decision to have to make, though I've never had a dog of my own. I'm thinking perhaps God has reserved a special place in Heaven for dogs and maybe He will send one of his Angels to retrieve your dog's spirit when the time comes.

....Jen, you are correct....off and on light rain with some wind today.  Cooler too.

Different from yesterday when we were able to accomplish some things around here outside....Such as:  Had 70' drive way...sidewalks....and rear patio, pressure cleaned.  Had a fellow remove my good Spaulding TV, FM tower that I put up 39 years ago....{still as plumb as the day it was put up}, but hasn't been in use for some years.  {Cable and XM now}...

Jean even had 2 carpet pcs. that protect inside at several doors, outside yesterday and cleaned them and let them dry in the sun.  Cleaned up the garage floor too.

Also, put in some screens at various places around the house....and had my truck washed....but we'll stay in mostly today.  Did go out for breakfast though.  No rain then to get truck messed up.

To be nicer tomorrow for Easter and warmer next week again.

Every one enjoy our Easter weekend and remember it's meaning.

Sunny and about 73 degrees here right now, cleared up some after early rain showers.

Unfortunately didn't get trackside today, just been working around the house doing somethings like adding flexible drain to a section of guttering/downspout and working on "new" bracket for my bike for the "tail lights". Last Sat. We were out on the bikes and a Gust of wind blew my bike over destroying one of my blinking lights,(we were parked, and about 50 feet away from our bikes) Had to get that fixed so I can "Hopefully Be Seen" while I'm out riding. (and trying to see trains, which is what we were doing at that time.)

Well, I guess I'm playing bachlor tonight, as Sarah and CW are out grocery shopping for our house, and doing several other things. Guess I get to put out the Pizza Menu for tonight.

So, here goes!

1.  Canadian Bacon

2.  Cheese & Extra Cheeses

3.  Goetta (for Brian, Ky., and others that like that)

4.  Hawiian (for Larry)

5. Pepproni & Mushroom

6. Supreme (for people like me....and I'm not a pizza fan)

7. Italian Sausage

8. Anchovie (for Jay whom hasn't been in for a month of Sundays)

Everyone Take Care and enjoy what's left of tonight and have a Great Easter Sunday.

(and as Quentin said, remember it's meaning!)

Larry; so sorry to hear about your pal. Iknow Dal will be missed. We had a Boxer ~~ Dixie Belle  and she loved my pick up truck. I would take her with me to do errands . She would hear me rattle my keys and run to the door. ~~~ Even after 10 yrs. when I get the keys  sometimes , I still look.

Well - it was a long day on the railroad - 660 people rode the trains (three different trips) which included a visit from a certain seasonal rabbit and a stop at the Remsen depot to hunt for eggs (and the treats therein).

I have a wonderful friend who looked in on the Dal while I was out.  A report was waiting for me when I got home.  About the same.

Tomorrow it's Easter service, and probably dinner, with daughter and her family.

Time to set up for tomorrow and call it a night.

'Mutt - Thanks for the pizza!

Happy Easter everyone!! He is Risen!! I've now got the turkey and the ham in the oven for dinner later this afternoon, and the coffee is brewing and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice.

For breakfast this morning we have bacon, scrambled eggs, french toast, blue berry pancakes with hot maple syrup and english muffins.

I will be going to church to celebrate Easter in a couple hours with a couple old friends I've not seen in a long time, and I am looking forward to it.

Good Sunday morning, and yes, Ray, He is Risen!

Thank you for getting breakfast ready!  You, Joe and my other assistants are very good helpers, and I appreciate each and every one of you.

Breakfast sure does look good this morning.  I've got my coffee, and Mookie, here is your coffee mug.

Got the chickens ready to go into the oven.  What side dishes would you all like to have with the roasted chickens?  You get to pick the side dishes today, and I'll prepare them!

It looks like it is going to be a very beautiful Easter Sunday:  we have a current temp of 47 degrees, but will reach the upper 70s, 80 degrees by 5 p.m., with just a few clouds and plenty of sunshine!

Everyone have a great morning, and take care going to Church, work (for those who have to work today, as the railroads don't particularly take the day off), and we'll see you back in here later on this afternoon.

Good Morning and Happy Easter everyone from Alamo City.

On a sadder note, a good friend and fellow railfan, Kevin Gillespie, passed away yesterday following a bout with Pneumonia.  Some of you may have known Kevin.  Kevin was very active in civic and religious organizations in the Balitmore, Maryland area.  In addition, he was also a longtime volunteer at the B&O Museum in Baltimore.  He was also a moderator over at Railway Preservation News.
