I'm liking the longer days, too.

I was checking around on-line to see if I could find a balance board for my Wii.  Talk about scarce!  A local store showed up has having them in stock, so I made a flying trip into town, but, alas, they had none.

Rumor has it that a newer version will be coming out, so no one wants to stock the old one.

.....Light snow continues....Just looked at my unofficial records here and I note we've had snow cover now since Feb. 6th.  No sign yet of let up of these weather systems crossing west to east, but fortunately, the center of them seems to still be a on a path going south of us....just on the fringe of many of them.  But, if it continues as it is now, we'll no doubt add another 2" or so today.....Temps. now in the mid 20's....

Good stuff continues though....We've gained 1.5 hrs. of daylight now since we hit the low spot.

We've had at least an inch of snow on the ground since December 8th in Omaha, including a stretch of over 20 days with more than a foot on the ground. We've got you beat!

I'm also quite pleased with the increasing daylight. The evenings aren't as dreary and depressing anymore. I'm looking forward to the start of daylight savings time in March.

Good afternoon, folks.  We did not have Produce again this week.  There hasn't been anyone over at the Center since Sunday, so no snow has been cleared off the steps and ramp.  The Center's director lives across the river in Indiana, so imagine he is snowed in over there.  Our high today is to be around 28 degrees, currently in the mid 20s at 12:21 p.m.  and there's a very brisk breeze blowing around outside.

For the rest of the afternoon and tonight, I've made the following, and put the pots on the serving station:

1.  Vegetable beef soup w/fresh baked cornbread (or you can have crackers, if you want

2.  Chili:  mild, medium and 2 alarm hot.  All three are distinctly labled , so you'll know which you are getting.

There's also some grilled cheese sandwiches, PB&J, tuna and ham w/cheese

Mookie, do you still have grandson with you?

I know what part of my toothache problem is:  the filling has come out of that bottom left tooth, and that's what is causing the aching.  So far, no swelling in my jaw, and am keeping tabs on it.

Think I'll go dig out my big winter coat, put on some more layers of clothing, and take Winter, the dog, out for a walk around the front and side yard.

Everyone enjoy your meal, have a good afternoon, keep warm, safe and take care.

P.S.  Ray, thanks for the postcard from Wyoming.  It arrived in today's mail.

Off to the post office with the Dal (he expects the daily walks...

Larry, that reminds me of Buddy (see his picture). I took him out for about an hour four days a week--and he knew which days they were, and when I came home from work on those days, he was ready to go.

They are able to keep county and addition roads and streets open, but with it staying cold, the hard packed layer of snow / ice on the streets assures us we must drive defensively and carefully when driving locally.

A bright an balmy 25 here in the northwoods of NY, with just a hint of snow flurries.

I've got to sit in on an interview this afternoon, but for the morning, I think some more decluttering is on the agenda.  Got one cupboard in particular whose contents may mostly be headed for the trash.

Off to the post office with the Dal (he expects the daily walks...

Tom, it is indeed very sad these days that a lot of people seem to be giving no thought whatsover to properly raising their children and instructing them about good behavior. I read a lot of news stories on the internet that are indeed very disturbing to me.

13 degrees here in Gillette, Wyoming, it is supposed to get up to 40 here this afternoon. Not much snow here in this community, and my sister and her husband told me that they never get very much. I think we will be headed into Sheridan, in the Bighorn Mountains on Thursday to visit my neice and her husband.

CW, you mentioned that you need to find a dentist. I will be going back to my sister's dentist later this morning for a full panoramic ex-ray of both upper and lower sets of my teeth, these ex-rays will then be taken to the oral surgeon who will extract the one bad tooth that I have. And if I have any need for any further work, I can take the ex-rays to my own dentist in Sioux Falls.

Mornin. 30 and clear in Carolina, headed for 46 and sunny. Joe, what you did in the restaurant doesn't always work. The same thing happened locally a few years ago, and a minister in the restaurant did what you did. When the punks were through with him, he had to go to the emergency room! Life is cheap nowadays and people are dying or being assaulted over trivial things. Last week, gunshots were fired after a local basketball game. Schools are war zones and parents object to any kind of discipline being used on their darlings. End of soapbox, no more, out

I’d like to know why society can’t be less violent these days.

......I'm with you Justin.....Don't give up hope, perhaps this too shall pass.

In my psychology course at Creighton, we've taken a look at several studies that indicate that violence on TV and video games plays a large role in shaping the tendencies of kids these days. If a kid watches a lot of violent TV shows, or plays violent video games, he will be more likely to show signs of violence. There have been enough studies that support this correlation that the majority of psychologists accept it as fact. The situation probably won't change much until we find a way to keep kids (young kids in particular) away from this kind of stuff.

Duh!  Willy - I bet even you didn't even need a psych class to figure this one out.  Seems like good old common sense would tell people this.  What we need is parents to "parent" more responsibly, even in limited amounts.  Your own parents are a good example.  Will stop there - feel a rant coming on.....

Had coffee.  Had breakfast.  Now need to go work off my rant plowing fields...  Banged Head

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  I hope you all had a very good evening last night.  All three of us here at home, took a hand at sweeping/shoveling the snow yesterday afternoon:  I started the ball rolling, by sweeping the front porch and steps; then Walt went out, and swept the snow off the awning, and reswept the porch steps.  Sarah finished by doing the shoveling the sidewalks.  I went out in the yard, and measured the snow:  center of front yard, 4 & 3/4 inches, south area of front yard, 4 inches and did not make it to the back yard to measure out there.  If I went out there, that total would have been a combined total w/the other snows we've gotten lateley, as nothing has melted back there.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go.

On the serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage patties & links, oatmeal, grits, toast (dry, buttered and french), scrambled eggs, fried taters, made from scratch buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy.

Johnny, Larry and others, as soon as this snow clears up some, where I can get the two blocks west to my doctor, I'll make an appointment, and also find a dentist.

Everyone enjoy your morning, keep safe and take care.

Afternoon all.

I don’t understand some of the kids these day’s. I’m just a kid who stays out of trouble, and then these know-it-all kids get into these huge fist fights out to kill one another for petty little reasons. I saw one of these huge fist fights today at the bus stop.Disapprove Dad had to go out and stop them. The would have killed one another. There were also little kids around watching. I’d like to know why society can’t be less violent these days.

Humph…Confused

Coffee - good

Welcome Flatwheel

Guarding grandson - school out.  He's awfully quiet downstairs, but then he is awfully quiet upstairs, too!  Approve

Hectic weekend - had whiteout yesterday - lots of accidents - sun shining brightly today.  I will send it on just as soon as I have rung all the light I can out of it.

CW - open wide - yep - dentist....most are pretty gentle, so just go and keep your eyes closed.  This won't hurt a bit....

Hmmmm.   Baggage tags?  Seems like I've seen some that looked something like that.

CW - Time for a visit to one kind of doctor or the other.  You might have a dental problem, or it could be a sign of something more significant.  Better safe than sorry.

Think I need to find a dentist:  my teeth are really aching on the bottom left side of my mouth.  At least, so far, no pain that I can't handle

Paula, please, seriously consider finding a dentist.

As to seat numbers--for use in a triple decker cattle car (look how high the numbers are)?Smile

Tom, porter or redcap badge numbers? They do look as though they would fit on a cap. I queried you since you have evinced a liking for the road my father worked for. Since I grew up in a town served by the Southern, and my first trips that I had anything to do with the planning thereof were on the Southern, I have had a strong liking for that road, but I, of course, am not familiar with all of the Southern's practices and usages.

Johnny, they do kind of look like seat numbers to me (although I don't know for sure).  There should be someone else on here,  perhaps Larry, can give a definitive answer.

Walt looked out the back door, and took a picture of the snow (and yes, it's still snowing here).  Maybe he'll post it later on.  You can't even see the prints the dog and I made the last couple of days in the backyard!  Neither one of us has ventured out to get a current measurement of snow depth.

Think I need to find a dentist:  my teeth are really aching on the bottom left side of my mouth.  At least, so far, no pain that I can't handle.

For the rest of the day, we have leftover spaghetti casserole, breads and tossed salad.  Everything is heated up, baked, and put on the serving station, and on the cool end is the tossed salad.

Think I'll be starting some laundry work in just a little bit.  We may not be able to get out anywhere, but we'll have plenty of clean clothes for when we can.  I kind of miss not getting out and walking everyday.

Everyone have a good afternoon, stay warm and take care.

Good morning. 47 and cloudy in Carolina at present, so there goes our chance for more snow. What we got last week was the fifth largest on record. Although the local weather office shows no precipitation, Columbia got eight and a half inches, the most since 1973. Why we show no snow here is anybody's guess, but is typical for Florence.

Flatspot, welcome aboard, and don't hesitate to ask questions, no matter how simple they seem to be.

Now, I have a question. What does TY&E stand for?

Well, Tom, I won't jump on you for having snow when Northern Utah is short on its water year (I hope Ricki and I will be able to take baths this summer), but it seems that some other folks are enjoying more than their share; can they send some back to the Wasatch Front (keep most of it in the mountains and let the valley have only a little)? Willy, can you do anything about this?

Yes, Flatspot, welcome, and feel free to offer any information you have, as well ask questions.

Tom, as well as I can decode it, TY&E is "train, yard, and engine."  The thread on protective/reflective has this expression quite often.

Tom, the following is copied from the Classic Trains forum. Do you have any idea as to the use of the tags ?

Hi, I recently acquired some old brass numbers from an auction, and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what their purpose was. They came stored on a tag that said "Atlantic Coast Line Railroad," but there wasn't really much more description than that. I was thinking that they may have been seat numbers, but I'm not really sure. Here's a couple pictures:

Lake effect in the forecast, but so far I haven't seen a single flake.  It's already up to a mild 30F, so I'm not complaining.

The DC area is apparently under the gun again tonight.  My son is working at a different fire station than usual and expects some business.

Not a nice day today. We're looking at a high of about 20 degrees, along with gusty winds. It's not very pleasant walking around a college campus on days like today, especially when a class is on the opposite end of campus. Oh well.

I hope everyone has a nice day.

I am new here and I am too lazy to research it but your Flat Wheel Cafe sounds intrigueing, (or however you spell it). What and where is the Flat Wheel Cafe?          thanks

The Flat Wheel Cafe is a virtual "diner" where we can get together to discuss stuff that would otherwise be off-topic for this forum.

While we do have some fun with the "food", we also commiserate about the weather, share family news, and generally get to know each other a little better.

The "Trackside Lounge" is about the same, sans food, but has a slightly different crowd.  We also tend to share some rail oriented pictures there, as opposed to starting a new thread each time.

As for where it is, you're already here.   Welcome!

A similar thread is running over on the Model Railroader forum.   I haven't checked any of the other forums - you may find them there, too.

Due to the "mechanics" of the forum software, we "move" into new digs on a monthly basis.  It's just to keep the post count on any individual thread down to a manageable level.

Good Monday morning, and Happy Presidents Day everyone.

Flatspots, welcome to the forums and the Flat Wheel Cafe/Diner.  To answer your question, we started out here about 5 1/2 years ago as the Depot Diner and Coffee Shop.  Had a 'contest' to decide on a new name last year.  Flat Wheel Cafe was what was decided by a majority of the people who 'come in here'.

At the present time, we have about an inch and a half of snow here in Louisville this morning.  They say we may end up with 3 to 5 inches, sometime tonight, in the morning.  Guess we'll have to wait and see what the total ends up at.  They're saying that Southern Indiana will end up with close to 8 inches of snow, by the time this round of snow is over.  Then, more coming into the area,  Friday and Saturday.

Coffee, juices, and hot beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Mookie, here's your coffee mug, ready for you.

All the regular breakfast items, including bagels and bear claws are on the serving station.

Everyone enjoy your breakfast, have a good morning, keep warm, stay safe, and take care.  See you all later.
