Thanks Randy and to anyone else with birthday wishes....We're pleased to be here. And I believe you are correct about the big snow headed across Carl's area....
Quentin
Happy birthday, Quentin!
Made it to Lake Station, IN, last night, getting ready to hop to our yard in Richfield before the snow flies, sounds like Carl will get the worst of it, we may get six inches just north of Milwaukee, will see what happens.
Well, time to fire up the big putty tat and head on down the road.....

Good morning to all.......Yep, one year added today....Must say thanks, we've been blessed.
Now Jen, that birthday weather present is not going to reach us....We have good moderate warmth {if you can call it that}, swirlling up around an eastern High, and pushing your big snow trail north of us. It looks like Carl is going to be the one getting a big load of it....Just saw, on TV weather 8 to 10" or more trending up north and west of Chicago and out over the great lakes. We will be on the fringe of it at best....
It's {the snow}, been melting here now for about 3 days and even this morning, it's above freezing by several degrees....Our streets are slushy here in our addition, but all County and main roads are {were}, dry...Perhaps a bit wet as we might see some very light rain....
So....we're off to a day when {with a bit of luck}, the snow will {still}, continue to melt...Oh, and Jean said she saw a Robin this morning out here under one of the nearby evergreens where the ground is bare.
Too bad some of them make the mistake and arrive too early....Must be a rough survival trying to find food with snow cover...
Thanks, Paula....breakfast looks great....and right here at the computer I also just had white toast W/ jelly and butter and orange slices....
Soon we'll get ready for church, and get my truck a bit slopped up with some wet snow here as I just put it thru the car wash yesterday before the salt consumed it...
Oops - almost got underfoot there....
Happy Birthday, Quentin. Breakfast sounds wonderful.
To celebrate your birthday - we are sending a real mess your way weatherwise. I haven't looked outside yet, but heard the snowplows go by. Glanced at radar and then immediately shut it off. It isn't for the faint of heart.
Ray is probably happy - he looks pretty high and dry in Wyoming! But this summer, when I want a cold drink of water, I can get it from the front porch - melt some snow!
Blah!

Good Sunday morning, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, QUENTIN!! We hope your birthday is a really great one! And may your birthday wishes come true!!!!!
Quentin selected the menu for this morning: bacon, eggs, crisp fried taters, and toast w/grape jelly. The toast is white bread, homemade, even.
We also have plenty of coffee, orange juice (high pulp for Quentin, and anyone else who likes pulp in their juice), hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea.
Everyone have a blessed morning, enjoy your breakfast, be safe and take care.
Pizza sounds really good. So good, that in addition to the virtual pizza here, I went out and got a real pizza...
Headed for a model train show in Syracuse tomorrow, and since I'll be in the area, a visit to my grandson (and his parents, of course).

Ray, it's good to know that your eyes are A-OK. Also glad that you are enjoying your vacation.
It looks like we've not been very busy today: guess everyone is taking advantage of the slightly warmer weather, and are out and about. I've been busy with laundry, so I don't really know how it feels outside. Walt took Win-Win out awhile ago, and guess what he saw in our South yard? A big fat robin! He came in and told, me, and said Spring couldn't be too far away.
Here is our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:
1. Canadian bacon
2. Cheese w/extra cheese
3. Pepperoni/mushroom
4. Goetta
5. Hawaiian
6. Supreme
7. Italian sausage
8. Italian sausage calzones
I've only baked two extra large of each type of pizza, but, as usual, there's plenty more in the freezer, if more of any one or two is needed.
And Mookie, there's some barbecued ribs especially for you, for supper.
Everyone have a great evening, keep safe, stay warm and take care.
Rare phenom here - it's snowing! Imagine that!
Joe - went trackside for about an hour. I saw a complete CSX grain train headed your direction. Head end was 5201 and 4788. Had CSX cars along with one Conrail and several Family Lines System - (Clinchfield and SCL-L & N) Maybe it was lost? Or maybe they like the grain here better?
Also had an MT coal train go around the yard - had 8 motors on the head end. Had to use a parachute to slow him down a little before he hit it again going out the other side.
CW - can we have BBQ ribs for supper? That sounds so good. (I went to the store and got some ribs and a corned beef - we will eat good this week.)
Off to do damage somewhere.
Good morning! I'm still here in Gillette, Wyoming, and I anticipate that I will be here for at least another 2 weeks. Currently here in Gillette, we have a temp of 18 degrees and the humidity is about 40%. It is supposed to warm up to about 25 degrees here today, and if we get any snow, it will not amount to much. I don't know what the weather conditions are like in my hometown, but my sister told me yesterday that Sioux Falls had gotten 6 inches of snow a couple days ago.
My brother-in-law is a plumbing and heating contractor and has a key to my house. He had gone into my house earlier this week, so says my sister, to make sure everything was O.K. and that the plumbing had not frozen. He discovered that the house was unusually cold, and he found out that the entire flue in my chimney had to be replaced, so he got that done earlier this week. I had remarked to my sister on the way home from Sheridan the day before yesterday that this family would not know what to do in a lot of situations like this without Harley.
I had a complete eye exam earlier this week at my sister's eye doctor's, and he told me that I had passed it with FLYING COLORS. The computerized technology which is now used to examine one's vision is really quite amazing. This doctor was able to show me what the interior of my eyes look like on a computer screen. He showed me my optic nerves and told me they are both in very good condition, and he also told me that there is no sign of any glaucoma or macular degeneration. There is a small chage in my prescription, and I will be getting new glasses next week. I picked out my new frames yesterday afternoon.
Well, I hope the rest of you out there are all having a good day. Stay warm!
Peace be with you! 33 and sunny in Carolina this morning, with a projected repeat of yesterday. I got up early to play with the wireless and had a good time.
CW, thanks for breakfast with the help from Joe.
Joe, I am glad that Matt is better and is sleeping in. It will do him good.
Larry, my girls may not be deaf, but they got no volume controls either, and seem to fire up whilst somebody is trying to sleep....
Everyone have a great day and stay warm
Tom

Good Saturday morning, everyone. We are starting out this morning, with a temp in the mid 30s, going for a high today of 47 degrees. That will be the warmest temp we have had here since the early part of January! It won't be as sunny today, mostly cloudy, but at least the rain basically evaporated before it reached ground level.
Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: bacon, sausage, pancakes, muffins, scrambled eggs.
Everyone have a very good day, whatever you have planned. Take care, keep safe, and I'll see you back in here for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest.
good morning
juice coffee and hot chocolate are on the way.we also have cinnamon rolls too.Csx is very busy this morning.Matt is sleeping in and he is feeling better today.Randy have a safe trip. More stuff coming your way.
Well, I was going to write something here, but the Dal is informing me in no uncertain terms (deaf dogs don't have a volume control) that it's bedtime, so it's off to bed I go...
cherokee womanJohnny, good to hear you got a good report from your post op checkup. How's Ricki doing, after her shot?
Thanks, Paula. As to the shot in the eye, Ricki says that it is #14; this is done to prevent more macular degeneration. Often when we go to this doctor, we spend three or four hours there because many pictures are taken of her eye, but no pictures were taken yesterday so we got away about an hour after she was called in.
We had a light snowfall early this afternoon; I have not seen any report as to how much the ski resorts received. For next next few days, we expect lows in the twenties and highs in the upper thirties.
Johnny
Johnny, there were times, when I was growing up on the farm, that we didn't have electricity either. Daddy taught all five of us kids, how to use the kerosene lamps, and how to be safe with/around them.
Randy, good to hear from you. Hope you make it to your destination, safely.
The serving station has been replenished with the fish, side dishes and desserts. Everyone have a good evening, stay warm, keep safe and take care.
Afternoon/evening all....
Willy, send the snow back, I don't want anymore, after nearly jackknifing twice on Tuesday night in New Hampshire (found out they have polka-dot underwear on) and Maine. Thirty miles of solid ice on the road is not fun, especially with an empty trailer.
Have not been in lately, pretty much due to snow, was in Dallas-Fort Worth the day after they got record snow, had a hard time trying not to laugh at the ice escapades of four-wheelers. Followed that storm east, and got in the northeast storm, and then the usual NY lake effect stuff. I could use some warm weather now....
Fish fry, please, see everyone later....
From Pembroke, NY:
cherokee womanWell, the electrician finally got out, and we now have a working ceiling light in our bedroom. But there's a part for the fan that has rotted away. So in the spring, before we can turn on the ceiling fan, we'll have to take that one down, and put up a new one. (Glad we happen to have one on hand, never been out of the box!!)
Paula, I think we can go you one better on having bought an item and not using it for several years. About 1980, we bought a nice kerosene heater which has a flat top suitable for a kettle or pot or such-- and did not use it until Christmas night about six years ago when a heavy snow broke bare branches, which fell on power lines. As I recall, we were without electricity more than twenty-four hours (some people had to wait longer). We have two kerosene lamps and a few candlesticks, so we could see what we were doing (but we did not have enough light to read).
When I was growing up, in South Carolina, we often had power failures during thunderstorms, and I early learned the use and care of kerosene lamps. At times, we also used a lantern to light our way "out back." And, when I lived in Alabama, in the late sixties, we had occasional power failures, which did not last long. One came when lightning hit a pole in front of my house and blew the fuses there; I was able to call the power company and report that I saw two fuses hanging down.
Mookie Willy - I will send a trainload of snow up to you. I think we got at least an inch of new, and I am not a happy unit. Isn't there a way you can stop this nonsense?
Willy - I will send a trainload of snow up to you. I think we got at least an inch of new, and I am not a happy unit. Isn't there a way you can stop this nonsense?
Well, I could resort to some sort of primitive rituals and potions. It's worth a shot, no?
CW - Thanks for the fish fry. Why do I always have this craving for meat on Fridays during Lent??
Willy
Yeah, Mookie, I hear you: I sick of this snow nonsense, myself! And we haven't gotten it like you have there in Nebraska!
Our Friday Fish Fry is now on the serving station: Fish ranging from cod to shimp, and sides ranging from cole slaw to breaded fried mushrooms.
The usual pies and cobblers, along with a yellow cake w/chocolate icing, yellow cake w/caramel icing, and ice cream galore.
The inspector did make it over to check out the work that's been done. He found a couple of things that he had forgotten to mention to them, so he'll be getting them back out here, to take care of that, then he'll be back for a final final inspection.
This afternoon is laundry detail around here. Currently, Sarah is doing her laundry, and when she is through, I'll be starting on Walt's and my laundry. And the doggie's laundry (her blankeys she lies on, and her towel under her water and food bowls).
Well, you all have an enjoyable afternoon, and I'm off to the farms.
The snow failed to materialize here, for the most part. We didn't even get an inch of accumulation. There's another chance on Sunday, and it looks like that storm could bring a bit more.
The next two weeks will be busy for me as the third quarter of the school year ends. I have a sociology exam, Spanish exam, and calculus exam next week, followed by a psychology paper, psychology exam, and world literature exam the week after. Then spring break. It never fails that the professors try to pile everything on at the end.
Good morning. We barely have 22 degrees here in Gillette, Wyoming, and I think I am going to be here for at least another two weeks.
Yesterday my sister and I made the drive up to Sheridan to see my neice, and Sheridan itself is about an hour and 45 minutes from Gillette. Sheridan sits within a valley which is surrounded by the Bighorn mountain range, and was served by one of the predecessor roads of today's BNSF, the Burlington Route, or CB&Q.
While in downtown Sheridan yesterday afternoon, I discovered a Burlington Route O5-A class 4-8-4, #5631 sitting next to the BNSF mainline, and it is surrounded by a chain link fence. It is situated so that it is pointing toward the north, and appears to be in real good condition, at least cosmetically. I got a few pictures of it with my Nikon and a wide angle lens, and then I turned around to get a shot of a BNSF empty coal train which was rolling past me, and at that point my camera's shutter locked up on me! #@$#!!! I don't know, I simply may have a dead battery. I own two of the same Nikon camera bodies and they should both go into the shop for an inspection and repair.
My sister and I might bake cookies this afternoon, and she might put me to work in her kitchen baking bread or dinner rolls. And for tonight we are going to have pizza.
Good morning to all......We're a bit warmer here in eastcentral Indiana this morning...17 degrees earlier. But, with bright sunshine and I believe we will be melting snow today. Normal rise in temp from morning to late afternoon normally is about 20 degrees, so that should put us in the melting snow bracket later today. We sure did yesterday with almost 40 degrees.
It's a bit difficult to imagine the chances are pretty good that I'll be mowing the yard late next month.....How's that for looking towards Spring. Oh my, and I'll be a year older by then too.....Time is flying. But I'm glad and thankful i'm still here....
Morning all.
Thanks for the breakfast Tom it’s a nice treat! Were warming up here in Western Indiana. Not to melt anything, but it is a nice change from 13*F!
Have a safe day.
Justin

27 and clear in Carolina a half hour before sunrise. It is expected to get up to 52 later with partly clear skies. Everyone have a great day.
Good Friday morning, everyone. Our temp this morning, is a little bit cool, somewhere in the 20s, looking for a high around 40 today, with plenty of sunshine.
Mookie, I know you're looking forward to some time off from grandson, even though you love him very much. Kids do zap the energy out of you, don't they?
Johnny, good to hear you got a good report from your post op checkup. How's Ricki doing, after her shot?
Coffee, juices, hot cider, hot chocolate, hot water for tea are all fresh and ready to go. On the serving station this morning: some bagels, bear claws, and our usual Friday assortment of danish and doughnuts.
Well, Mookie, here's your coffee mug, clean, and ready for coffee to be poured into it. Everyone have a good morning, take care, and I'll see you all later on this morning.
We are somewhat in the doldrums, weather-wise, here. Lately, the lows have been in the thirties and the highs have been in the upper forties. We were promised snow today, but all we saw was a few minute flakes on the windshield this afternoon as we were coming back from an appointment Ricki had with one eye doctor (she got a shot to combat macular degeneration in one eye).
This morning, I went to see my colon doctor, who simply greeted me when he saw me in the hall; his nurse looked me over, gave me some words of advice, and said that I no longer had any restrictions on lifting, but be careful (while the doctor was working on my major problem last month, he also took care of a bad hernia that I had). I go back there in June. So, it looks as though we will be able to take a trip this spring.
