Afternoon all.

I’m grounded from the PC at home, so I didn’t see any harm in getting on after school.

Cool here in western Indiana snow still on the ground. We might have a new person visiting the café in a while. My friend Tyler has joined trains mag.com and might check in from time to time. Try to make him feel welcome.

Have a good afternoon. Smile

Justin

Larry, seems like you all in New York, Pennsylvania, and surrounding areas are really getting hit hard.  I just saw on the news, where there is also places having to deal will 3 feet of water.

We currently have plenty of sunshine, but with the wind blowing, our wind chill is in the mid 20s, with a current temp of 35.

Here is our menu for this second Friday of Lent:

FISH:  Cod, Flounder, Haddock, Halibut, Perch, Shrimp, Clam Cakes, Oysters

SIDE DISHES:  Cole slaw, Corn on the cob, Fries, Breaded fried mushrooms, Hush puppies, Baked beans, Macaroni & cheese, Mashed taters & beef gravy, Tossed salad

DESSERTS:  Yellow cake w/chocolate icing, Yellow cake w/caramel icing, apple, cherry and peach cobblers w/ice cream (any flavor you want) and pecan pie.

Everyone enjoy, have a good afternoon, keep safe and take care.

Well, the snow stopped around 2 AM, but the wind has taken its place (24 mph gust so far).  Fortunately, the snow that did fall was fairly wet so it doesn't appear to be drifting.

I only got about 4" for the event.  Syracuse apparently scored big time, with around a foot and a half.

They say there will be a little more snow.  I just hope travel on Saturday is OK, since I have a meeting to attend about 80 miles from here...

Well, hello there! 30 degrees and sunny in Carolina this morning, expecting to make it to the mid 50s with upper 20s tonight.

We had a nice day yesterday but there was a right smart of wind. It gave the wife a sinus headache, whilst my shoulder gave me a fit. That seems to happen a lot when a front comes through. Some locals saw a few snowflakes yesterday morning, but nothing to speak of.

Everyone take care and stay warm

Tom

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Mookie, I'm feeling the same way, don't know what direction I'm in, etc.  Except that I can hardly wait for Spring to finally come our way.

We have 24 degrees this morning, looking for a high of 39, possibly 40 degrees by 3 p.m. this afternoon.  Then, a possibility of light snow showers/flurries tomorrow.  Not supposed to be any accumulation, though.

I'm going to deviate from our normal "Friday Doughnuts/Danish" this morning.  The coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider, and hot water for tea  are all fresh and ready to go.

On the serving station this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, hash browns or tater tots, along with the regular bagels and bear claws.  Or, you can have oatmeal, or rice with toast.

You all have a very good morning, take care and I'll see you all later.

diningcar

Still morning in AZ and will be near 60 this PM. Thanks for the breakfast Paula!!!

I have been seeing doctors, labs and imaging labs for the past few days. Severe lower back pain ( just above the more commonly describded location) and no prognosis yet. Anyway my wife of almost 56 years is giving me extra care and it sure is appreciated.

Hope you all have a great day.

Jack, hope everything turns out o.k., and they find out what is causing your lower back pain.

Our temp is hovering around 31 degrees, think we'll be lucky to see the 33, 34 degrees for a high this afternoon.  The meterologist said we could possibly see some more light flurries this afternoon.

Since I've been busy starting packing up kitchen supplies (what won't be needed in the next 4 days),  here is our menu for the rest of the day:

1.  Sloppy joes w/your choice of fries, curly fries or tater chips, and tossed salad

2.  Leftover Chinese beef & broccoli w/rice and won ton soup

Everyone have a good afternoon, and I'll see you all later on.

Mookie
Tree - if you don't get piles of snow, you will be surrounded by it anyway.  Might want to drop us a line in the Spring - about July 1st?

Almost noon - the radar says snow, and snow is falling, but it's melting on contact with bare surfaces (like my driveway - glad I shoveled, even if it was only an inch).   Temperature is 35 degrees here.

With any luck, the snow won't pile up on branches and wires and we'll escape those problems.

Light dusting of snow right now - but they're promising us more later, and it's supposed to be the wet, heavy stuff.  It's already above freezing, so it's hard to tell what to expect, aside from it being a mess.  A few people with winter amnesia activated their ditchfinders in response early this morning, but things have been quiet of late.

Time to scrape off the half inch or so of snow already on the driveway, then check the mail and get the paper.

Adrian's shots are a neat depiction of microweather.  We see it in the fire service to, but it's rarely documented - I, for one, rarely have my camera at a 'real' fire (as opposed to controlled burns).

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Thought I'd give us a little touch of 'spring' with the green type.  I mean, we have what:  3 weeks of winter left officially?

Adrian, it's good to see you in last night.  Those are some awesome pictures you have there.  And like Quentin, I really like those night shots!!

Pat, good to have you back, also!  Hope you come around more.

Well, we have about and inch, maybe inch and a half of new snow on the ground this morning.  It started around 9:30, 10:00 last night.  Current temp is 23 degrees, supposed to get up to about 33, 34 degrees today.

Coffee, juices, hot cider, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are all fresh and ready to go.

On the serving station this morning:  turkey bacon, pork sausage patties, scrambled eggs, and your choice of toast & jelly, or made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy.

Everyone have a good morning, stay warm, keep safe and take care.  I'll be around here this morning, starting to get some things packed up, and ready for our move Sunday night.

And just for fun some other recent pics I like.

Larry, Randy and others, regarding truck stop food:  The only one I know from experience, is the one we would stop at going down to Tennessee to visit Mama's family, when I was a child; it's around E-town (Elizabethtown, KY).  They had the best biscuits & gravy, BLTs, burgers, cheeseburgers, and open-face roast beef sandwiches. Whenever we would go down there, Daddy would get us all up around 3:30, 4:00 in the morning, to get dressed, get the car loaded up, and head out.  So by the time we got down to E-town, he would stop for breakfast.

Now, for our menu today:

1.  Open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters & gravy, green beans, corn, and your choice of cole slaw or tossed salad.

2.  The following soups:  Vegetable beef (homemade from scratch), cream of potato, and tomato w/grilled cheese sandwiches or PB&J and beef stew w/cornbread

We getting a nice little snow shower.  Sarah just came in from the firehouse, and we could see it coming down, ever so lightly.  She got a run just after 10 this morning.

Everyone enjoy your meal, have a good afternoon, keep safe, stay warm and take care.

Bright overcast this morning....Have had several very light flurry activities.  Temp 28.9 right now.   Actually, sun is almost peeking thru.

Nice feeders Larry....Critters need to eat too.

Project here today, or at least begin with it:  Assemble and connect received electronic units to adapt XM Radio to my family room stereo system to bring in good music.  Music on normal FM outlets not very worthwhlle anymore.  So hope this capability will cure that.....

Purchased all components needed to do this on the internet....From order to received:  4 days.  Not bad.

Good morning. 44 degrees and fog in Carolina. I too slept in, and plan on going back for a reprise. We have spent the past day or two working on the taxes, and likely have another full day or more yet. Much cursing around here lately.....

Larry, I remember one meal in a navy mess hall where the roast beef was really chewy. Someone finally noticed that they sliced up the binders twine wrapping along with the meat and served it with gravy....

Johnny, the ACL R1 class was a notable failure. It would get wound up and the engine would literally jump up and down on the tracks at speed. The mechanical dept tried  numerous fixes but nothing worked. After a few years, the R1s were retired. This is the only forum I attend.

Everyone take care

Tom

Good Morning!

Sunshine and six below zero to start the day here. We're looking at a high of 18 today.

Mookie - If I could have gotten to a computer quick enough, I would have alerted you to something special that came through Omaha on the BNSF yesterday. Just out of pure luck, I saw a westbound coal train led by a Conrail SD70MAC. That was only the third of fourth Conrail unit I've ever seen in person, and to catch it on the point was extra special.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  As you can see, I slept in this morning.  Woke up right at 7:30:  and with no cats pouncing on me, to wake me up, 'saying' Feed us, we're hungry!!"  Trap is the really good one at doing that, believe you me!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, and BLTs.

Woke up to a little bit of sunshine.  Our high today is supposed to only be about 32, 33 degrees.  I'm not even sure what our current temp is, or how low it got last night.

You all enjoy your breakfast, have a good morning, keep safe, stay warm and take care.

Mookie
Might try a bowl of cereal at truckstops - they can't mess that up too much!

You wouldn't think that anybody could mess up pizza, either, but the Navy did when I was shipboard.  Sheesh, that was bad.

Kinda pretty here this morning:

However the snow seems to be taking its toll with some accidents and a fair number of wires down calls.

That's all of my bird feeders - two platform feeders, a Yankee feeder, some suet, and some thistle, which the goldfinches absolutely love.

I get quite the selection of birds, too.  Several types of finches, chickadees, redpolls, cardinals, nuthatches, blue jays, mourning doves, juncoes, sparrows, hairy and downy woodpeckers, red-winged black birds, grackles (you can have them...).  I used to get grosbeaks, but they've been scarce lately.

If there's a downside, it's that I can easily go through a gallon container plus a day of the black oil sunflower seed I use...

Time to do battle with the driveway...

Evening all.....

Had a nice drive down through the hills of KY and WV this afternoon, after skirting the wreck on I-65 this morning, involved a semi pulling hazmat and a 4-wheeler, you can guess who lost (from what I heard on the radio, 2 dead).  Other than that, trying a different truckstop tonight, the Flying J at Max Meadows, VA.  We will see if I can stomach the food at this one (not sure what it is, but can't take the food from most Flying Js).

Quick, light dinner, then bed, then 2.5 hour drive to Charlotte to drop off a load, then who knows where.  See everyone later.....
