Mookie;  ~~~~~aren't you glad you don't have to thaw rail switches today?? LOL

I doubt they can even find the switches, rails or some of their ATV's.  It is really getting deep!  But as an engineer, I would have to worry about that, would I?  Mischief

Here in WI, just north of the border, got a break on the weather.  We stayed on the warmer side, had some rain with temperatures up to 40 degrees.  Got rid of most of the ice on my driveway from the last storm.  Colder with flurries now.  Still about 10-12 weeks before there is any hope of a snow and ice free world around here.

Merry Christmas, all.  We escaped the heavy stuff on this side of Iowa, but Joanie and I played it safe and skipped a planned trip to the Minneapolis area today, opted instead to visit her sister's place near Kalona, IA.  Now we're back home safely.

Good morning! Joe, thanks much for making the coffee and laying out the donuts and rolls. I just pulled a pan of cinnamon rolls out of the oven here, and all I need to do is frost them. And while the grill is hot, I've got some blueberry pancake batter ready for pouring. We've got pork link sausage ready to go on the grill and I can also do eggs, scrambled or sunny side up.

I'm about to run out and shovel a path between my front door and the curb, I am guessing that the snow depth here is about 20". I hope to be going over to my sister's house later this afternoon for our Christmas party. I hope the rest of you are all having a good day, and stay warm!

Good Saturday morning Boxing Day to everyone.  Joe and Ray, thanks, guys for taking care of breakfast.  Since this is Boxing Day, does that mean that I don't have to take care of preparing the pizzas for tonight?  Or do I come back on KP duty this afternoon?Wink

Brian, I am very glad to hear and know that you and Joanie are safe and sound.  I've been worrying ever since that snow storm started out there.  And Ray, glad that you are also safe.  Now, what about Dan, Misty and Aedan, and all our trains.com friends/staff?

Everyone have a good day, keep safe and take care and be sure to bundle up before going out in the cold.

CW, I just finished shoveling a path between my front door and the street here in front of my house. The city's plow had come through here at about 2:00 this morning. I am listening to KELO AM and the official report is now in, so far the total amount of snow that we have received from this one storm system is just shy of 25 inches! I should load my NIKON with a fresh roll of film and take some pictures.

Saturday morning report of weather here in our central Indiana area.  Just a skiff of real fine snow overnight.  Temp now above freezing so it will soon be gone.  Bright sunshine early but now more clouds moving across making it just partly sunny.  Still no complaints on our weather comparing it to what is happening just west and north.....Expect to have flurry activity this weekend with a chance of 1 to 2" total.

Of course Spring is on the way now......We've gained 6 min. of daylight already for sunset time.

Well, about 3-4 inches of new snow on the ground, and still snowing as we speak.  Just got back from having fun on my dad's ATV plowing out his driveway, and cutting wood for the benchwork for my layout.  Should get around to putting some of it together later tonight.

See everyone later for dinner...

Good Sunday morning everyone, and Joe, thanks for getting breakfast.  It seems we were both posting at the same time in here, and I got knocked off just as I was getting ready to click post.  Oh well, these things happen, don't they?

We're looking for some flurries, very light snow showers to be in our area somewhere around 5 p.m. this afternoon, and will continue on through the night.  They are saying, though, that we won't have much accumulation, just a light dusting.  Guess we'll see how much "dusting" of snow we have in the morning, when Walt gets ready to go meet Sarah at the airport.  If her plane isn't delayed, she will be taking off from Philly around 9 a.m. in the morning, getting into Lousville about noon.

And guys, I'll need a little bit of help from two or three of you, to hang Birthday decorations up Tuesday night, as SpokyBob's and Houston Ed's birthdays are Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.  I'll definitely appreciate any help you all could give me.  And on Friday, New Year's Day, if Babe ruth 78's birthday.  Is he still around here anywhere?

Everyone have a good, safe morning, and take care.  See you all later on, around 2 or so, with our Sunday Dinner menu.

CW, I'll see if I can't help you out.

For now, though, I'm packing up and getting ready to hit the long road home.  Had a great time with the little ones (and their parents).  Both of the little ones now have way too many toys, but they're fun to watch.

We had to keep convincing grandaughter to go back and open more presents.  She was content playing with what she'd already opened.

Grandson isn't quite old enough to ride his little ride-on fire engine by himself, but he sure liked being pushed around on it!

Time to get going.  Looks like decent driving conditions all the way home, and I'm hoping I won't hit much "going home" traffic.

Later!

We got about 11 and drifting.  Between the Driver and the landlord, we finally got all the snow around the house removed.  Going to try to take Millie out today and see if she knows how to ice skate.

Bitter cold will now replace the snow until the next go-round.  I can hardly wait.  Blindfold

Good morning all.......overcast here  but just one or two snow flakes overnight.  We too have a chance as Paula indicated, of light snow this afternoon, but I doubt if it amounts to much.  Which suits me fine.

Happy birthday to the fellows Paula mentioned.....

30 degrees here now, so seems just about seasonal.  Still feel very fortunate we missed the "big one"....

Good Morning--

Got a wee bit o' snowflurry activity today mixed in with a wee bit of sun--around here we call those 'incidents of sun'. Don't seem to having much of either this yearWhistling

Interesting thread going on about the loudness of trains one can hear. Around here--since we sit somewhat on a ridge we tend to hear quite a few trains coming through that either end up all muffled or clear as a bell. There is even a few times when a Nathan 3 or 5 chime horn can actually be split up into their various notes--and even hear overtones as well--My favourites involve turbos winding up as they hit the grade coming up the Thames R valley towards Komoka---

Have a good one!!

When I answered atmospheric pressure - I was thinking that different engines sound different depending on what the weather is doing.  We live at a right angle to some tracks and about 1/2 mile away.  Some turbos will have a high whistle and can wake me during the nite.  And Amtrak, for a long time, sounded way different than anything else.

LaughLaughWhistling Quite true at times!!

There is that thing too about being involved in music---I tend to notice that not all engines sound the same---a 645 may sound the same as another to some but not to this little one. I'm always finding these overtones in some that make me wonder---Whistling

Well, I've got everything warmed up, from the turkey, ham and all the side dishes, leftover from Friday.  And it's all on the warmer bar, along with the 'cold dishes' in the smaller cold section of the bar.

There's still some sugar cookies left, along with cake, pies and cobblers.  Help yourselves, enjoy and have a good afternoon, staying warm, and out of trouble.

.....Well our forecast of 1 to 2" of the stuff has arrived.....Started as we were in Ruby Tuesday's for lunch after church.  Pretty wet stuff.  Temp has been above freezing most of the day so far, but just peeked at the temp instrument and we've now decended just a bit below that mark.

Looks like about 1 1/2" to this point....but still coming down.  That big Low press system needs to continue to move farther north so we get out of range with it's outer extremities as the system rotates counterclockwise around it.  That's where our bit of snow is coming from.....the back side wraparound.

Still we've been very lucky with all that's been passing thru the plains and upper midwest /Great Lakes area.....

A good time to stay right where we are and a bit later watch our Pacer's {probably loose}, playing down in Miami.  If we'd play 3 qtr. games, we'd win quite a few.....I don't know what the cure is for the way our team seems to let it go in the 4th.

Evening all. About 2 inches of the white stuff is currently on the ground here. The plow trucks are out now, hard at work with keeping them clear. I haven’t been able to get in here the past 2 days cuz the internet has been down. Something to do with the modem. I think it si fixed now though knock on wood… <<<knock knock knock>>> Well, I hope that you all have a safe, and good week!

God bless.

The snow at my son's house in MD went from over 1' on the ground when I got there Thursday afternoon to maybe 4" by the time I left this morning.  Most of the 2-3" I had at my house is still there, but it's packed and crispy now, due to warm temps over the weekend.

Traffic on the roads wasn't too bad, but it had its moments.  I'm glad I was out of the DC area before all the "short haul" visitors headed for home.

Had a brief delay to my return this morning.  Stopped at a 'big box' to get some batteries for the GPS and scanner (I use the GPS to help track my speed, and to watch the elevation changes).  As I was headed back to the truck, I saw some people all moving toward one point, but I couldn't see why.   On investigation I found an elderly woman who'd found a patch of ice and fell flat on her back, whacking her head pretty good.   Helped the local EMS folks packager her up and sent her to the hospital, then hit the road myself.

The ambulance was from my son's fire company, so even if the crew didn't know me, they knew who I was.

I'm pooped.  Time for bed.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  A very cold 21 degrees here in Louisville, but at least the snow showers have left the area.  We had a good dusting, but it did cause a whole bunch of accidents last night:  153 non-injury, 53 w/minor injuries, and I think they said 6 hit and runs.  Just about all the interstates were closed for awhile, until they got the salt trucks out and treated the bridges, ramps and overpasses.  I-65 had several accidents, especially on the Clark Memorial (2nd St. Bridge) and further out in the county, around Grade Lane (which is close to the CSX Railyard).

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are all ready to go, and there's turkey bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits & gravy on the warmer bar, along with the bagels, bear claws and oatmeal & toast.

Larry, glad to know you made it safely home from Maryland, and I hope the elderly lady you helped, will be o.k.

Sarah's due to leave Philly about 9:45 this morning, and should arrive here at Louisville Internation right at noon.  Will check online later on this morning, just to make sure her flight is ontime.

Everyone enjoy your breakfast, have a very good day, stay safe, warm and take care.

Good Morning

Got enough of a snowcovering last night that we had one fellow down the street spin out and end up on someone's front lawn---a foot from their houseShockWhistling

Now the weatherbeguessers are saying that there could be about 15cm of snow for us'uns today if snowsqualls come through here---we may get that but we WILL get a lot of wind otherwiseSigh

Gotta bit of work paperwork to do--enough to make for a trip to the office for a bit this afternoon. Maybe I'll use the time to check on some stuff going on downtownSmile

Have a good one, peopleSmile

Good morning, it's Monday. 41 and clear in Carolina this lovely day. It is supposed to get into the mid 50s and stay clear all day. In my younger days, I would go for a walk. Nowadaysa, I look out the window! I have been reading up on the Wreck of the Old 97, and find it really interesting. Does anyone know what the percent was on the 3 mile grade, and when that section was bypassed? Thanks and have a great day.
