Good Wednesday morning, all.  A very chilly 20 degrees here in Louisville.  When I got up at 5, it was 22.  But we're supposed to get to the mid to upper 30s today.   Some good news, though:  Sarah will get the Jeep back today!  She'll go pick it up after she gets through doing Standby at the firehouse.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are all ready to go.

On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, along with the prerequisite bagels and bear claws.

Two days to go, and I go back to the cardiovascular doctor, to find out the results of my ultrasounds.

Willy, at least now you have the dreaded final out of the way.  You don't have to worry about it anymore, your least favorite subject is over for now.  See, there is a silver lining behind every cloud!!Thumbs UpSmile

Everyone have a very good morning, enjoy your breakfast, keep safe and take care.

Good morning and thanks for breakfast. 39 and clear in Carolina, and all is well. Paula, I hope your tests come out clear and all goes well for you. Willy, I remember finals at USC well, and some of them were a terror, especially one old girl who lectured on everything but the text, and then, gave tests on the minutae in the text, including graphs.... Everyone take care and stay safe and warm

So far my professor has not proven to be too tricky when it comes to exams. He told us pretty much everything that will be on it, so it's just a matter of reviewing vast quantities of Calculus, some of which I don't really understand. Just have to do my best.

Barry, Spring looks like quite the little charmer!  I'll bet he/she got nice and warm, lying on the laptop.

Plenty of sunshine this afternoon here, just not warming up very much.  Current temp is 31.1 outside, on our indoor/outdoor thermometer.  And I need to make a quick trip to our neighborhood Kroger to get something for our supper tonight.

For our noon and evening meals today, you tell me what you'd like to have.  And if no one gives me any suggestions, there won't be anything fixed.  There's hardly been anyone in here lately, and that distresses and miffs the resident cook here.  So you let me know what you want, and I'll comply.

Have a good afternoon, and I'll see you all in a bit.

Comments on professors, etc.

As a freshman, I was unable to take one of the required freshman courses, History of Western Civilization because of my Chemistry major course. One spring day, the freshmen came out from their test following the section on the French Revolution, moaning because they had been asked to outline the French Revolution. Three years later, I did take the course (under a former student of the same professor). Her test after this section? "Outline the French Revolution." Somehow, I was able to do so.

I had one professor in graduate school who intimated that if you could find copies of his old tests you should do well on his tests.

Tom, perhaps your old girl wanted to broaden your knowledge of the subject, and expected you have absorbed the basic information found in the text--and did not explain her plan to you? Incidentally, one of my brothers did some graduate work in chemistry at USC; his undergradute degree was from the College of Charleston.

When I took an elective course in Differential Equations (an advanced calculus), I hoped to do as well as I had done in the basic course (C and C). After spending a little time on the basics of advanced differential equations, the professor spent most of the semester on the LaPlace Transform, which involved plugging values into an equation (I remember nothing more, not even its use). I aced the course.

Calc one through four was an evil time frame for me...

Anyway, had a 3 day no notice deployment that I'm now in place for in a new part of the world I've never been to before.  High today of 20 with a heat wave this week.  Normally sub zero.  Another missed Christmas, but should be back in time though for fishing this spring.  I hope anyway.

I'll start workin' on the pictures here soon.

Joe, my sympathies and prayers are with all involved also.

And Joe, your meal suggestion sounds pretty good to me, so soup and sandwiches it is:

Soups:  Vegetable beef, Cream of Potato, Tomato soup

Sandwiches:  Grilled cheese, PB&J, burgers and cheeseburgers and fries or curly fries

You all enjoy, have a good evening, stay warm and take care.

Johnny, Miss Calvert spent her lecture time talking about life in the CCC camps and teaching children to swim, or discussing her flight home from some vacation place. Her exams were based on footnotes, graphs and the like and covered hundreds of pages sometimes. For the final, she decreed no shorts or bare feet, and those who showed up with flipflops, culottes and shorts were kicked out. According to her, it was a stand for morality. HOO BOY, there were some mad people that day. Another professor who taught history spent his time telling us to burn down the admin building. He had come from UC Berkley and taught revolution instead of history. End Soapbox, no more. Out

I recall reading about some manner of a medical class where, on the first day, the students found a detailed drawing of a skeleton on the chalkboard - complete with the names of all of the bones.  The drawing remained on the chalkboard all through the semester.

Until the last day.

On the day of the final exam, the drawing was gone.  The final exam?  The same drawing, sans names.  The test?  Fill in the blanks.  All of them.

The students complained that the instructor hadn't said a word about the skeleton, to which he replied that the drawing had been on the board all through the term...

0430 wakeup call this morning, in the form of the fire siren.  Smoke in a house.  On arrival we found a fire in the basement.  It also managed to burn into a small portion of the first floor before being stopped.

Considering that this is a ~150 year old farm house, we're luck we didn't find it collapsed into the cellar.  I'm pretty sure they can fix it up.

Cause was apparently a wood-fired furnace in the basement.

I'm pooped.  Three more letters to accompany some Christmas cards, and I'm in bed.

Tom, had she escaped from the end of Bull Street?

Whoever was responsible for that history professor's presence certainly had escaped from that institution.

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Not too bad here in Louisville this morning, with a current temp of 27 degrees.  Supposed to be mostly sunny and clear today, with a high in the mid 40s, probably around 47 degrees.  Nice to see a few of you were in last night.  Larry sounds like you had a very looonnnnng day.  I hope you had an uneventful night, and could get some good sleep.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready to go.

On the warmer bar this morning:  muffins = blueberry, chocolate, cherry, bagels, bear claws, along with the regular breakfast items of sausage, bacon, eggs, toast, etc.

You all enjoy your breakfast, morning, keep warm, keep safe and take care.

Good morning and thanks for breakfast. 30 and clear in Carolina this morning. Our heat pump is holding its own whilst the part to repair the furnace is on its way. It is 50 years old, so we were blesst to have parts still available. I think I will go back to bed after the girls get back in. It's a good day for it.

Johnny and Larry, those days were rough ones in academia, with their prima donnas. Some were very nice and helpful, othere were strutting little martinets or miniature Napoleons and as mentioned, at least one Vladimr Lenin. Some classes had more than 600 students and were totally unmanagable. When I went back to school in 1978, it was to a smaller school with helpful professors and classes of 20-30. My GPR changed accordingly.

Everybody take care, stay safe and warm

Good Morning--Smile

DULL DULL DULL----oh---and cold. That is it for the weather up here--Grumpy

We had a watermain break occur last night and now they're out there cleaning all the ice and stuff from the area. There was enough water that came out'n the break that we now have a giant lake to contend with--that is--until there is none of this stuff around.Sigh

"Spring" was in the Xmas tree all asleep this morning--Whistling

Anyhooo---all the University teachers I had seemed pretty good. The only thing that stuck in my craw were the few who had no ENUNCIATION!!! Who would mumble into their podium and leave the class of--oh, say 400-- going-----"eh? Wha'd he say?"ConfusedWhistling.

Cold here this morning.  I wouldn't be surprised if there were places with no temperature at all (0 degrees F).

The sun is out, though...

Think I'll throw my bearclaw on the grill with a little butter on it.  Warm is good.

Man, it still fills like the temp is in the low 20s, even though the thermometer reads in the mid 30s.  I'm not shivering and teeth aren't chattering like Sunday, but I'm still too cold.

On the and warmer bar, you'll find pots of soup:  bean soup w/ham, vegetable beef, and there's a couple of large pans of baked cornbread.  What kind of sandwiches do you all want with your soup?  Does anyone here like oyster stew?  If so, I'll start putting that on the menu, also.

Walt has gone with Sarah to pick up the Jeep.  By the time the mechanic got through, and did a test drive, it was too late for her to go pick it up last night.  Sure will be glad to see the Jeep back in the parking lot, next to the house.

You all have a good afternoon, and if anyone wants something different for supper tonight, just let me know, and I'll get started on it.  Take care and see you all later.

Whew, what a day!

Was up at 2am central today, drove nearly 600 miles from South Carolina, and missed every scale in Virginia and Maryland.  Load I picked up yesterday was loaded badly, had to slide tandems quite a ways back to get it to axle out, so played the "Dodge the Scales" game.

Is right at freezing here in Elkton, MD, to get into the 20's tonite, 30's again tomorrow, with snow forecast for the weekend.  Should be interesting to see how we get back to the house by Tuesday, we shall see, though.

.....Beautiful dry, sunny day here.....Believe 38 was the max. on temp this afternoon.  20 something this morning.  But we too are hearing the words, possible snow showers, flurries, etc....for upcoming weekend.

Item:

Witnessed the Triple Crown coming thru Muncie today....first in quite some time....Counted the cars {to check how the economy might be doing}, and the rough total was 128....That's better than I might have guessed it would be.

Had my last final today, which was Theology. I find that to be a much more pleasant subject than Calculus. Don't tell the ACLU or they may come after me for embracing religion. It just isn't right for me to be so insensitive toward all the atheists, is it? Sarcasm aside, classes don't start again until January 13th, so I've got close to a month of freedom ahead of me.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Not a bad morning here in Louisville this morning:  a temp of 35 degrees, going up to 47 today.  That's before the rain starts later this evening, which they say will turn to snow, and it will snow the rest of the night into tomorrow.  They say we may see about 3 inches tomorrow, and may pick up possibilly another inch between Saturday night and Sunday.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are all ready, along with milk for anyone who wants it.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws and homemade chocolate chip cookies, that I started baking about 5:30 last night.

Guess I'll see you all when I get back from the doctor's office.  Then Monday, I go back to my GP for a follow-up with him.

If any of you will be starting your holiday travel today, please be careful, and stay safe and sound.

Everyone take care, and I'll see you all later.

Good morning and thanks for breakfast. 39 and cloudy in Carolina with rain likely. I got blessed with a jury summons yesterday. I don't have any problem with serving, but physically am not able anymore. I hope my quack realizes it too, cause I need an excuse to get out of the summons. Paula, I hope your visits go well today and Monday and all is well. Everybody take care and C U.

Well, I won't know about my test results until I go to my GP Monday.  The cardiovascular doctor was not in, so they rescheduled me for next Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m.  One of the receptionists said that they sent out notices that he would not be in today.  I told her I never received one.  Otherwise, I would not have showed up this morning.  I'd have slept in a little longer!!  Getting off my soapbox now.

Our Friday Fish Fry is now under way.  We have:  cod, flounder, halibut, haddock, perch, jumbo butterfly shrimp, and talapia on the warmer bar, along with the following side dishes:  corn on the cob, cole slaw, fries, hush puppies, breaded fried mushrooms, cornbread, onion rings, curly fries, baked beans, mac & cheese.

Desserts:  apple, peach and cherry cobblers, chocolate and pecan pies, and yellow cake w/yellow icing and yellow cake w/chocolate icing.

You all enjoy, have a good afternoon, (and evening, if I don't get back in here), and take care.
