The comments about the size of syringes reminded me of an incident back when I was in the tenth grade. A new building, which housed the lunchroom, the home economics classroom, and the vocational agriculture facilties had been built, and my algebra class was now in the classroom formerly used for the vocational agriculture classes. Our teacher (principal and coach) gave us a test, sat back, opened a desk drawer, pulled a horse syringe out, and asked, "Anybody want a shot?" Nobody took him up on it.
Yesterday, when we went up to South Ogden so Ricki could visit her physical therapists, we saw part of not one, not two, but three UP freights. The first one was northbound from Salt Lake City, the second one (on our way up) was eastbound from Ogden, and the third one (on our way home) was also eastbound. We saw only part of each one because of their length, and we had no opportunity to stop and watch the whole. It was nice coming down a long hill to see the third one from above from a distance, go under it, and look back briefly to see it above. Yes, a freight train ran over us yesterday. Once in a great while, one wold run over me as I was on my way to work.

Yeah, I seem to remember that there were extra "band-aids" around the facility after sessions like that.
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
locomuttthat reminds me of the military, where you had to get all kinds of shots.
In the navy, at least, a lot of guys fainted while getting those shots, and when that happened, they were dragged off to the side and left alone until they came around, and then given the next shot. Then they promptly fainted again and the process was repeated until all the shots in the series had been given. Why the shots couldn't be given while they were out has never been explained, but as many as 7 shots were given in one series, Sometimes, it was the big tough looking guys who fainted away as opposed to the Caspar Milquetoast types. They always told us not to tighten our arm muscles when we got the spray needles, or it would cut us

Yes, I too saw some pretty good sized fellows in line {as I was}, getting shots that they didn't take too well.
I found if i simply just looked away it just took an instant and it was over. Overseas {Asia}, we had to have Malaria shots or pills each week as long as we were there. 55 plus years ago.

CW is Not in the Kitchen tonight due to a bad Sinus Headache. Supper and desserts will consist of leftovers and be served on the Patio so we can watch trains!
Nice stories about the "shots" in the military, have witnessed a few of things related.
(you don't have to be 6'-6" weighing 200lbs, or 5'-8" weighing 130lbs. to have that happen; there's no discrimination on that.)
Walt, give Paula our best wishes for relief from that headache.
grampaw pettiboneWalt, give Paula our best wishes for relief from that headache.
Will do Tom; she very seldom has sinus, migraine, etc. headaches like this one.; so it causing a few problems.
Larry, caught your reply over on the "Trackside Lounge" surprised you didn't show this one.
While not exactly "Severe Weather"; it should come close to qualifying. (for that area anyway)

locomuttThe cause of the rupture has not yet been released.
It should not be released lest it rupture another pipe.
Good Thursday morning everyone. Well, the sinus headache is till around, though it isn't hurting as much as it did all day yesterday. Walt is very correct: I haven't had a sinus headache that bad before. It was worse than the eye strain headaches I sometimes get (and, knock on wood, I haven't had one of them for several years). Thank you all for your comments and well wishes regarding the headache. And I enjoyed everyone's responses about the cortisone shots. Glad to know I'm not alone, in the "hurts like heck" department of people getting cortisone shots!
Coffee, juices, lemonade, iced teas freshly made, and there's hot water for hot tea and cocoa. On the breakfast bar: bagels, bear claws, cantaloupe, watermelon, and hot biscuit/egg, sausage/cheese 'sandwiches'.
Looks like you all did a good job eating the beef stew and cornbread yesterday. And someone even cleaned up the Crock Pots. Thank you, whoever did the cleanup last night.
Everyone have a good morning, enjoy your breakfast, and if anyone has any meal suggestions for today, let me know. Take care, you all, and see you later.

Mutt - I did see that in the trade press. How much you want to bet that apparatus gets renamed "Titanic" or something of the sort.
"Cap - we're going down!"
"Abandon Ship!"

.....Maybe a better name would be: "Normandie"...because it was refloated......!
Hopfully the firetruck's fate is something better than that of the Normandie.
One of our railroad club members works for an outfit in this region which actually builds fire trucks, but offhand, I can not remember the name of this business. It is possible that this fire truck which ended up in that sink hole was built in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Even if the electronics are toast, it's most likely that the rest of the truck would be refitted, possibly even to a new chassis.

Uh, reckon they want to brag about how much water they can pump?!
edit: Just an FYI to anybody that lives in the Louisville, Ky. area; (or close surrounding areas) according to emails I've received from various sources, the "Disney Train" is now at Louisville Union Station, opens tomorrow the 11th and will be here through the 13th. WILL try to get some pictures!
(Looks like Sarah & I may have to do a "bike trip" today.)
Well, I think the sinus headache has gone "bye-bye", finally. Beginning to feel 'human' again! (Not sure what I was, but definitely did not feel like a human being 33 hours.
Lunch and supper tonight: BLTs w/your choice of vegetable, cream of broccoli, or tomato soup.
And if anyone has any other suggestions/requests, just let me know, and I'll fix it also.
Cw thanks for the BLTs for supper tonight.Speaking of produce I did see the empty salad bowl returning to Carl today.3 up horses and about 30 cars.Walt good luck on your bike ride.got some chores to do here at home then its work tonight.Matt will be home from school soon too.

Walt.....The National News showed the Disney Train last evening and people were lined up for hours to go into it. Seems it's a very popular display, and of course the train itself.

Well, as promised (?) here are a few pictures of the Disney Train that arrived at Louisville's Union Station this morning. The exhibit doesn't open until tomorrow, and runs through the 13th here, then on to Cleveland, Oh. I'm very glad I was able to get there today while they were still "setting" it up; not too many people in the way of taking pictures, although I did have to remind one of the "Security Guards" that the sidewalk he said I couldn't go on was public property.
Pictures aren't the greatest, but when you have to access something like this strictly from "public property, this is what you get.
(no real good "camera angles"!)
I think I'm thankful that I didn't ride the bike, might have had a very hard time "chaining it up"; and people that are coming here to see it are going to have a very hard time finding parking places; as there aren't that many around this particular area to start with, and "Disney" has the west parking lot at Union Station under their control for the weekend.

Mudchicken, I think it might actually be Central States Fire Apparatus, which is located in Lyons, not far from here. I will ask him though the next time I see him out at the Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society.

It has been cloudy here in the NC Piedmont today. A small shower before dawn as I was going to work (0545). Cool is the operative word for now with temps in the lower 70's at best.
The investment community is getting a bit excited about Kansas City Southern. No one ever thought Mike would pull it off in Mexico. It seems that with the West Coast US ports raising their landing fees that the Mexican Pacific Ports with their more reasonable fees will get more business going North.
Anyone want to weigh in? (Just for the Cafe talk of course)

Thanks for showing the photos Walt....

Crimson is in Brandon, SD. Central States (a division of Rosenbauer now) is in Lyons, SD.
The truck in the sinkhole was built by Pierce, in Appleton, WI.
Good Friday morning, everyone. So far, we have a pleasant 65 degrees, with no fog this morning. Going for a high of 83 for today.
Should be very good weather for the people who will be going to see the Disney Christmas Carol Train. The 'viewing' times today are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. tonight and tomorrow; right now, I can't remember the hours for Sunday. I believe it is the WHAS-11 TV station, has a 'contest' going on: anyone who visits the train this weekend, can register for a brand new HP computer and printer. I wonder how many people have already parked themselves up there by Union Station, so they'll be there when they 'open up' at 9 this morning.
Coffee, juices, etc., are freshly made this morning, and there's hot water for hot tea.
The breakfast bar has bagels, bear claws, doughnuts (ranging from regular glazed doughnuts to chocolate covered cream filled long johns to danish to blueberry muffins to sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy.
Everyone have a great morning, enjoy your breakfast, and take care.

If they keeping delaying school with such great abandon, they'll have to add a few days at the end of the school year. Sorry, but I'm going to be stubborn with this. I just don't see much point in delaying school due to fog.
And speaking of school, my work load at Creighton is getting a bit heavier. I have a few papers due over the course of the next week, and the first exam for Atmospheric Sciences is on Tuesday. A theology exam is coming up too. I found it interesting that somebody I work with was quite offended that theology is part of the core curriculum at a Roman Catholic university. Makes perfect sense to me, but maybe that's just my jaded, insensitive Catholic point of view...
