Good Sunday morning to one and all!!  Looks like it's going to be a very beautiful
autumn day!

Joe, thanks so much for putting the coffee on, making the juice, and baking the
cinnamon rolls.  And we also have some pizza you can warm up, if they would
like leftover pizza from last night.

Since it's supposed to be so nice today, think I'll fire up the grill for this afternoon,
and grill some chicken, burgers, hot dogs, bratwursts, steaks, and corn on the cob.
How's that sound for our Sunday Dinner?

Everyone have a great day, and be careful out there!

If Cherokee Woman is going to fire up the old barbeque grill tonight, I'll provide dessert. I'll bring a couple gallons of homemade ice cream and a batch of chocolate chip cookies.Chef [C=:-)]

We had a little surprise here last night in the form of some totally unexpected thunderstorms. The forecasters were saying that there would just be a few isolated showers, if anything, but then in the middle of the night I woke up to these loud, sharp booms of thunder. We didn't get even a tenth of an inch out of it, but it was still a nice surprise.

I'm going out to eat this afternoon with my family for a late birthday dinner so I won't be able to participate in the barbeque.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday!

Okay, everyone, the first batch of food is now coming OFF the grill.  So grab your
plates and utensils, and dig in.  Along with the hot dogs, burgers, etc., we have
potato salad, cole slaw, your choice of fries or tater chips.  The second batch will
be on the warmer bar, staying warm for you all.

Ray, you got the dessert ready?

Dessert is Ready! The flavor of my homemade vanilla ice cream is so delicate that you would spoil it with Hershey's chocolote syrup. And the chocolate chip cookies are still warm - fresh from my oven!Chef [C=:-)]

That's impossible in my book.  Hand me the chocolate syrup.

Much to our chagrine, today's chicken BBQ was very poorly attended.  Not sure why - things have been tapering off for some time now.  Perhaps many of our loyal customers have gone on to their reward.

So - Joe - no problem on your request - a couple of halves of chicken along with some beans and macaroni salad, a roll or two for each and some pudding (chocolate or vanilla?) are ready for you.

OK, now that we're done with that fabulous supper, I'll share some pictures from yesterday!

A different point of view of the Cedar River bridge...

Sitting on the old passenger spur...

Lots of autos headed west...

A shot from this spot appeared in a calendar several years ago, so I thought I'd try duplicating it...

And then, just a few seconds later, an added bonus...

BTW, that's the CR sewage treatment plant in the background.

Nice shots, Brian!

I think we'll have to explore CR a little more thoroughly sometime.

Brian;   Very good shots . Rail pics would lose if they wont' accept them .

Sittin' on the spur is cool and Eng. 4904 is my kind of train. I wish I had my Mattel Super Flash - O Matic . Thanks for the comments, guys.  We'll never know whether or not railpics would accept them, as I don't even try.  Maybe someday I will.

Carl, you'll definitely have to come on over some weekend and we'll spend a day or two exploring the Cedar Rapids rail scene.

Cannonball, sorry to hear about your camera.  I'd be devastated if I dropped my Digital Rebel- it's my #1 toy.

Good Monday morning to everyone!  Looks like I might be in here all by my
lonesome this morning.  Oh well, such is life.

Coffee is on, juice is made, and I'm cooking breakfast.

Bacon, scrambled eggs, biscuits, toast, sausage, gravy, oatmeal are on
their way.

Does anyone have any meal requests for me today, for lunch and supper?  If
so, I hope you'll let me know.  If not, you'll have to eat whatever my muddled,
half asleep brain comes up with.

---O-O----

< u n u n >

If this turns out - it is a pumpkin face with glasses!

Belated Happy Birthday to Zardoz - yesterday!

Happy Birthday to Brother Carl and Tree today!

Had a good weekend - lots of little naps.  But when I did have my eyes open, saw a couple of SD-9's parked together around a grain elevator.  Made a nice fall picture.  Soybeans in the background, SD9's on the rails and the imagination of sun - (it was very cloudy and misty all weekend!)

Guess our group picked the best weekend for our get together.  It was perfect weather then.

How about salmon patties for lunch.  Maybe for our non-furred people a good chicken/rice casserole and if you are cold lasagne?  I will let CW sort it all out.  I will go for salmon, a can opener and a big cup of coffee.

Still shoveling off to Buffalo.  Wow.  And the earth moving in Hawaii.  Makes Nebraska look pretty tame right now!

Nite....

Sounds like a good idea! Maybe we should include a salmon/rigatoni pasta casserole, too! Dinner [dinner]

Congratulations on the NS hats, Joe!  Hope one size fits all!

Happy birthday, Larry!

And, SJ, I hope that's a big can of salmon you opened up for us (I actually did have salmon for dinner yesterday!).

Out to pose for a picture at a place near our hospital.  They said they were going to draw some of my blood.

Larry, maybe your all's lower attendence was from Louisville's Great Fire Drill & Chili Cook-Off yesterday.
We saw and talked to quite a few New Yorker's while we were there. Actually a 'transplanted' one
gave us a "lift" on an 80' Snorkle so we could get a few shots, including the second pic.
(there are trains in both pictures, you just have to look hard to see them!)

And a GREAT BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY To you and Carl;and Zardoz,Happy Belated Birthday!

Brian, that would be nice if I could get our weekends to agree (I'm on mine now).  Meantime, think about coming east sometime when Joanie's up to it.

At last!  (Brian will understand.)  This is something for Carl from Altoona. A 250 depressed center flat car at the Museum on the site of the old shops.  This side had been painted over but the back side had CR 766163.

(Now that I haven't gotten the drill, I'll post a few more pics sometime today.)

Folks -

Belated Happy Birthdays guys.

Thought I'd drop off some great apples. Got a box of Cortlands (cooking) and another of Empires (eating) that should be good for pies and just plain eating respectively. Pick you own is big this year and there are a LOT of apples after recent INS raids. Hope the snow doesn't get 'em like in Buffalo.

Happy monday...lol...

For some reason I feel older today...

One of our firefighters shares a birthday with me.  They say that if you have a group gathered of any size at all, you'll likely find two people with the same birthday.

Happy birthday to Carl and Zardoz.  Got a call from my mother last night.  She had so much to cover about my daughter's wedding that she forgot to wish me a happy birthday...  I'll be seeing her Thursday, though.

'Mutt - I really do think we've 'lost' some of our usual customers.  The advertising has been about the same, but the attendance has been lackluster for the past few events.

Now I just get to wait for the dealer to finish fixing my truck...

Our respective mothers had little to do with our daughters' weddings, for which I think we (and they) should be thankful.  After all, it was their day.

Jay, I couldn't see the picture, but thanks for thinking of me.  I guess if it's at the museum it's too old to be used on the road any more.  They've had to build a lot of heavy-duty flats in recent years (the past ten or so, I would guess) just because the old ones had mostly been retired!  Late edit:  this time it came up.  It looks like something they're restoring to its old PRR identity.

My birthday "cake" is apple pie.  Birthday lunch coming up shortly (barbecue something-or-other).  We also got some good eating apples on our way home from Nebraska; I'm trying to keep a lot of doctors away!

I had my sitting just a while ago--they drew my blood, but I didn't see the results.
