Well, it looks like it's a good thing I came up with an idea for our lunch and supper
menus today, since no one had any requests.  So you are stuck with what I've
lined up for lunch and supper.

We will have a Mexican Fiesta Day:

tacos and other Mexican dishes, and you can "build your own" tacos;
we also have a Fiesta Meatloaf that is very, very good.

Nothin' wrong with that.  Enchilada, frito frijoles, and a couple of tacos (I prefer flour tortillas) ought to take care of me for the night....

Oh, I think Matt has a hat somewhere! Wink [;)]

We might get flaky rain tonight, too.  It's been dreary and wet all day (a half inch in our gauge).  I returned to work to find a retarder out of service, some of my switch protection not working, a substitute hump engine that couldn't hold a steady speed (or go over the hill because its plow wouldn't clear the retarders), and--natuarlly--a yard full of stuff waiting for me/us to switch out. Bedtime's five hours away, but I can hardly wait.

The arctic front swept through this morning and it looks like 25 degrees will be the low temperature tonight. The big chill has indeed arrived.

I would like to wish a happy birthday to everyone who has had a birthday recently or is going to have a birthday in the next couple of days. I know there are a lot of you! Happy B-Day [bday]

With no homework, tonight looks like a good night to light a fire in the fireplace and watch a good movie or read a book in bed.

TTFN.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] what he said.

We're getting snow squalls through here tonight- just drove home from choir practice, and it was coming down so hard it was actually starting to stick to the road.  I wouldn't be surprised to see white lawns in the morning.

EDIT:  Forgot to add that Joanie and I met Jay at a downtown Cedar Rapids hotel earlier this evening- had a nice visit with him for about an hour before I had to skedaddle to the choir practice.  He's in town with the Lexington Group, which gets to ride the Iowa Northern rails tomorrow and the IAIS line on Saturday- lucky bunch.

It looks like I'm the first one here in the Diner this morning. So I've got the coffee going and I'm mixed up some fresh orange juice. And the cinnamon rolls are ready, fresh out of the oven, you people better grab one while they are still warm!Chef [C=:-)]

The area where I live got it's first taste of winter early this morning. We at last report had 24 degrees and a light dusting of snow on the ground. With the wind chill as it is, it feels more like 12 degrees. The wind is blowing out of the northwest at gusts up to 20 mph.

Good Thursday morning to one and all!

Coffee is ready, juice, tea (hot) and hot chocolate are made.  Make my hot chocolate
with milk, not water, so it tastes pretty good, especially with marshmallows in it.  Even
have some cocoa and hot water for anyone who wants hot cocoa this morning.

Breakfast is on the warmer bar:  bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs.

NOTE TO HOUSTON ED:  FIX A PLATE FOR YOUR LOVELY WIFE AIMEE, AND
TELL HER  HAPPY BIRTHDAY for me please!!

Guess that's about it for this morning.

Gee Ray, looks like we were missing each other in here.  Thanks for adding the cinnamon
rolls to the breakfast menu this morning.

Yawn - CW you are up early this morning!  I need some help from the next person in - got gooey on my face from the cinnamon roll.  Then I get it on a paw, then the face - it is a never ending problem.  Need a wash cloth!  Paws taste good however!  And the butter was divine!  One bite, one lick.

Only 39 overnite for us.  Maybe a little lower, but no hard freeze yet.  Poor Driver - his nose would make a better faucet.  I used to do that, but I gave it all to him!  Isn't that love - you give people things?Evil [}:)]

Going to go lay on my back in the hammock - wait for Joe or Tree or somebody to rescue me.

Last time I 'rescued' Madam La Mook I used a fire hose - maybe just a damp washcloth this time...

We're promised substantially cooler weather through the weekend.  Not good news for the outside portion of our fire prevention presentations at the elementary school.

Need our western friends to send some good weather for Friday the 20th - daughter's big day, I gain a son-in-law.  She wanted a fall wedding, hopefully she won't get a winter wedding instead...

Happy B-Day [bday], Aimee!

I hope this weather isn't an bad omen for a year from tomorrow, when my daughter has her wedding scheduled.  We've got a dusting of snow here as well.  My folks are coming down from Minnesota for the weekend, and my Dad wants to play golf Saturday.  I hope it warms up...

Morning All,

Sorry I've been absent lately. Work's been insane, and I've been trying to get the house ready for my sisters, who arrive tonight. Hmmmm...I think it now qualifies as "Clean," but possibly only from a bachelor's perspective. I hope they aren't expecting the absolute definition of "Clean," but rather the definition that is a little more open to interpretation! Tongue [:P]

Meanwhile, Happy Birthday Aimee! And a very Happy Birthday to all of the other October birthday folks out there that have had their birthdays in my absence!

Brian, your daughter is getting married on the 13th? Hmmmm....October 13th...I always liked that day! Apparently my parents did too, as it was the day of their wedding. It's a shame that they got their best anniversary gift on their first anniversary, and after that they were a bit more 'traditional.' Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Well, must be on my way. Have a large plan that I need to finish before I take a couple days off while my sisters are in town. Hope you all have a great, if a bit chilly, day!

TTFN!

Joe, I think you read my mind this morning!!  Because I have a huge pot of beef
stew on the stove, simmering (can you smell it, as you come into the DD/CS?)
and am mixing up the cornbread, and have the oven turned on, so all I've got to
do is pop this cornbread into it.  We've also got some cream of mushroom soup,
and cream of broccoli soup.

Chris, glad to see you in, even if just for a quick visit.  Hope you enjoy the visit with
your sisters.

I think I'll be dropping in at the Diner for lunch this afternoon. If Cherokee Woman has a big pot of beef stew simmering on the stove top, that will be perfect for a COLD day like this.Dinner [dinner] The sun has come out here and it looks deceptively warm outside. We have a temperature of 26 degrees, and I can only guess at what the wind chill is here. We need an extra smiley to add to our posts........one that is shivering with cold!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Okay, everyone:  the beef stew, soups and cornbread are ready for consumption!!

Sit yourself down at a table, booth, or at the counter, and we'll start dishing it up!

Our low temperature last night ended up at 29 degrees. The winds stayed up at 10 to 20 mph all night and I think that kept temperatures from getting as cold as forecast.

School gets out in exactly 1 hour and tomorrow is off so today is my Friday. I think I'll just stay home tomorrow since it will be Friday the 13th. Better safe than sorry... Wink [;)]

Brother Carl just called me - they got a little snow!  Let me repeat that.  A Little SNOW!

We got the wind and the cold and they got the good stuff!  Not enough to shovel, just enough to make it look good.  Like someone shook the paperweight globe!

Grrrrrrr.

Current temp: 32*F here.  We've got 'bug' snow.  That's when you have those little flakes that look pretty but seem to sometimes act like a mosquito or fly.  They'll go up, down, sideways, etc...Kinda pretty.  I'll buy a Lotto Ticket tomorrow.  It's been my lucky day too!

BTW, got a good look at Jay's "ride" for this afternoon while running an errand downtown.  IANR put together a nice little excursion train made up of three AMTRAK coaches, a passenger coach of their own, and book-end engines consisting of F40PH #678 and GP38-2 #3801.  Unfortunately, the camera was at home.Banged Head [banghead]

52 here, but snow very definitely in the forecast, possibly tonight, for sure by tomorrow PM.

I think I've brought this up before, but the old "Pogo" comic strip had a running gag with "Friday the thirteen is on a {insert day of week} this month.  So, Friday the thirteenth is on a Friday this month....
