CSX is kinda hokey in their reply....Gonna grab a bag of popcorn and watch this one from the peanut gallery.
Threat of snow Mon-Tue to 60 degrees today...it's that time of year.
As SJ said, we got a couple of flurries this morning, enough to stick until the temperature rose above freezing.
I should call the relatives on the Michigan side and see whether they got more--another giant cloud bank was hovering over the big lake this morning, before our clouds blew in.
Happy birthday, Aimee!
And you, too, tomorrow, Chris!
Tomorrow is supposed to be warmer after a cold night tonight. Don't know whether I'll be biking, but if I do, I may decide to rig a sail for the ride in.

Yup, I was right--Michigan's getting it!
Kalamazoo had three inches on the ground when I went to bed last night, and it's probably up to two or more (and still snowing) in Grand Rapids right now.
Gonna take advantage of the tailwind to work today on the bike--may not be able to get back home!
Hummm...
Low of 72 for today, not a speck of snow in sight.
Aimee says "Thank you Carl".
Might have to find a long sleeved shirt, just in case.

Good morning!
Let's See - Chocolate/chocolate for Chris. I am reading his mind!
Tree - Shovel off to Buffalo?
Mutt: Driver slips on my shoes when he goes outside briefly. I will let you ponder that one.
Dan - keep buying - the states need more $.
Joe - Is Matt's new coat fur?
Sir Chicken - CSX sounds like they are growling to me! Can't help but think they will win this one! Goliath wins most of the time - if nothing more than because they have all the time in the world and can talk it to death! And - Lincoln has narrowed down an arena choice to - are you ready for this - WEST of the depot and including the depot as the FRONT DOOR and maybe still a hotel/convention center just NORTH of the depot. Is there that much soundproofing material in the world?
People yell about the noise now - so they build right in the middle of the main line of BNSF! And where does poor Amtrak go if they can't get to the depot? Or do they build a mini-bridge over the tracks for pedestrian traffic?
We have land west, north and even south of us - for miles - especially west.
I am going to go stick my head in a bowl of oatmeal and blow bubbles!

It's about 28 degrees here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and it is supposed to warm up to about 48 degrees later this afternoon. That's a marked improvement over yesterday by roughly 20 degrees. The weekend here is supposed to be fairly nice, with a temperature of about 52 on Saturday and 60 on Sunday. As long as we don't get any freezing rain, I am happy.
Happy Birthday to Chris!

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Thanks all for the b-day wishes! CW, Mook did an excellent job of reading my mind. Chocolate/Chocolate sounds wonderful!
Meanwhile, sisters arrived in town only 3.5 hours late last night to drop off my sisters. Oh well, they got to wish me Happy B-Day at my birthday time on my birthday (12:06 AM).
Probably headed someplace up into the mountains, though I haven't decided where yet. Might try the Peak to Peak Highway and see if there's any remnants of color left (doubtful, but you never know!). Either that, or I could head up to A-Basin and go skiing (they're the first to open up...today in fact!)
Anyways, hope you all have a great day! Don't let triskadecaphobia (sp?) ruin your days!
TTFN!

Mooks:
(1) In reality, what CSX put up is pretty lame (more like a wimper than a growl). Sounds like the big operating lizzards(*) in Jacksonville guided the CSX response, failing to talk to CSX's Engineering or Lease & Contract people. The STB examiners have to be laughing or groaning at what was said in the CSX response. In either case, the STB is going see past CSX's whining to side with preserving rail service & competition. Higher speed "raised flange/ sheep jump" crossing frogs (60 MPH, nearest one I can think of is at Chenoa, IL- TP&W/UP x-ing) are out there, just CSX is going to pay more to install them. Crossing frogs alone are not solely responsible for congestion either.
(1A) It's beginning to sound like M&W has rights (acquired from NS/N&W/Wabash) that are senior at the crossing frog location. If M&W has done nothing to breach the contract (possibly written back in the dark ages), then they will be in the catbird seat and CSX will have to comply, screaming all the way. If dirt poor M&W has to install and maintain the thing, along with the signals, then there would be a different outcome the moment M&W fails to abide by the contract.
(S.I. Hayakawa Principle -" When you've got 'em by the balls, the heart and mind will soon follow!")
CSX is definately footdragging over the additional unwanted expense and headaches.
(2) You have some political science majors there at Cornhusker Tech running a social experiment on how to not manage/govern a major urban area? (and I just know the planners, as in "lack of", had a hand in this....)
(*) Running gag & slang on some parts of the Santa Fe:
Lizzard = Operating Dept. Supervisor
Division HQ = Squirrel Factory
Regional (General Manager) HQ = Lizzard Parlor
System HQ= Wax Museum (Really big lizzards = dinosaurs)
Get promoted and the first thing asked was "did you suddenly start feeling waxy behind the ears?"
Check Please!
//running for the door....
also the city went hand in hand with csx to outright zone and eniment domain land for an industrial park here in defiance.who got federal and state grant $$ for a spur into this industrial park?(csx) if they went with csxs plan for the crossing alot of people on the southside would be waiting longer for trains. alot of companies are being held hostage by csx rates with no crossing there.

Hey Carl, I bet your backside still froze even though you probably did 20 MPH going to work...
Surprisingly, no to both--I was dressed warmly enough to feel fine, but my speed didn't get over 17 (that was a real surprise--I should have gotten up to 25 or better. Probably generator drag.).
Also didn't make it over 12 on the way home. Tomorrow should be better all around.
Friday the 13th is usually a lucky day for Pat--but today she's going to the dentist. It might be my lucky day, though--the dentist is in Elmhurst, and she might want to dine out afterwards. I suspect I'll be able to talk her into going somewhere with a view of the tracks...
Afternoon All,
Many thanks for all the birthday wishes. Mother Nature seems to have sent some B-day greetings too because we had an absolutely SPECTACULAR day up in the high country. Started the day by heading up over Loveland Pass (and watching the very first skiers of the season up at Arapahoe Basin). Came back through the tunnel and headed down to Georgetown for lunch (stopped in Silver Plume on the way...looks like they're trying to turn the Hawaiian 2-5-2 back into a more traditional Prairie). After lunch the girls did some shopping, and I played the piano at the Ice Cream Parlor (that was fun!) Finally drove over Guanella Pass and caught 285 back into Denver.
Now I'm here having some delicious fish and a terrific cake (that doesn't even seem to have any paw prints in it!).
Man, I love Friday the 13th!
Thanks again everyone. Hope you have a great day!

Brian - I'm already well past that point in the wedding thing - daughter's big event is this coming Friday. So far all I've had to do has been get measured for a tux and send money.....
The hard part has been getting the house squared away for some company. Long-term bachelor pads/pack rat abodes are a real pain to get straightened up....
Preps are underway for our Chicken BBQ tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we won't see a version of Buffalo's mess. We seasoned the chicken on Thursday, and I didn't see any muddy ones in there...
Back to housecleaning. I'll try to get back for pizza later.

great pizza CW thanks.fostoria was nice and we got to meet people from my old hometown of Celina ohio.we stopped by the little railroad in Findlay ohio so matt could ride the pumpkin train.Carl I think the recent wind has done some damage to the wooden boxcar.they also have another switcher in their collection too.
Hawaiian, SVP. I'd have some pepperoni, too, but don't feel like picking the mushrooms off....
Lake effect snow possible south of here tomorrow - hopefully we don't get a repeat of the Buffalo thing.
Joe, Pat and I got to ride the "pumpkin train" a couple of weeks ago, with our granddaughters. Unfortunately, no rails were involved--just three wagons pulled by a tractor with a face that could have belonged to one of Thomas' cousins. I think the girls were as underwhelmed as I was. This is where I first found out that Kates recognizes crossbucks for what they are (she saw the one at the pumpkin farm and went "whoo-whoo"!).
Thanks for sending along the pictures, by the way. Always good to see our little buddy! Sorry to hear about the box car. It needed a lot of work, which it apparently didn't get in time.
