Mookie, did you also find the towel I put out for you?  Hope so:  you just might need
both that towel and Chris' s, to get dry from the wet leaves.

Lunch is now ready.  You've got your choice(s) of the following:

1.  tuna salad salad
2.  cream of potato soup
3.  cream of mushroom soup
4.  broccoli cheese soup
5.  leftover roast, taters, etc. from supper last night
6.  tomato soup w/either grilled cheese or pb&j sandwich

Willie, which of these do you feel up to having?  Hope you feel better soon!!

Now, are there any requests for supper tonight?!?!?!

CW & Chris - I have towels all over the place.  I can now lay on one and cover up with the other!  MMM - feels good!

Willy - maybe growing pains?  Shy [8)]  Possibly another ENT problem?  And when I sent that particular mouse to the great cheese wheel in the sky - I had two cats - indoor/outdoor ones.  They used to bring me gifts of live mice!  Bless their little pointed heads!  They were well fed and just wanted more toys!  GAH!

Tuna Salad and Tomato soup - it is a little chilly yet.  (gonna have a red moo-stash!)

Wow, MC, that reminds me of a Schnauzer that my aunt used to have. Doesn't matter what type of rodent happened to bein the house as a pet at the time (hamsters, gerbils, rats, etc.) she would attack the cage like a Cat D9! Gotta love ratting terriers!

Now my Chihuahua (that my mom stole from me) is the exact opposite. He is absolutely scared to death of my sister's rats. Then again, some of them are almost as big as he is!

I know I'm a little late for lunch, but if there is any tomato soup and fixings for grilled cheese leftover, I will have that this evening.

The doctor says I have a severe sinus infection so he prescribed three weeks worth of antibiotics for me. I think I'll be feeling better pretty quickly, though.

Willy, of course you can have some tomato soup and grilled cheese for supper.
I have bouts of severe sinus infections about twice a year, and they are no fun
at all, are they?

Supper tonight will consist of the soups from the lunch menu.  I made plenty today,
so we could all have something nice and hot to warm our insides, after dealing
with the cold, and the rain that a lot of us are putting up with today.

A female Columbian red tailed Boa Constrictor, two of her offspring from the last clutch, and a Lucent Texas Rat snake.

The female is 6 foot plus, about 45 lbs, and when she is hungry, faster than a rattlesnake!

Maybe the snakes should have come and joined us at Camp Mookie! Of course, if the snakes had come along, I would not have shown up because snakes terrify me.

Long overdue report on the trip out east.

Conway Scenic Railroad's Notch Train at Crawford, NH

And a view of Crawford Notch

The Mt Washington Cog Railway train.  (Look carefully on the enlarged version)

Conway Scenic 0-6-0 hauls their train between North Conway and Conway, NH

Now down in PA.  The eastbound Pennsylvanian makes a late appearance on the Horshoe Curve

And 10 to 12 thousand feet later a pair of SD40-2's

All that and whale watching, too.

Spectacular shots, Jay, but I didn't think the whales went up that high.

Willy, take things easy--by the way, did you get the pictures I sent?

(And I don't blame you--I'm not sure how afraid of snakes I'd be, but I would feel just a little uncomfortable with them around.)

Rain should stay away for a round trip tomorrow.

Two granddaughters have their costumes for Halloween--one's a monkey and the other's a banana!  Grandma made the banana costume.

Jay - Very nice shots!

Carl - I don't see them in the inbox, try sending them again. As much as I would like to take it easy, I think I'm going to have to go back to school tomorrow. It takes a whole lot of effort to make up just a day or two of missed work.

I applaud your dedication, Willy.

Don’t let anyone tell you different, being smart is being cool.

For your review, I present you with four Honor Roll students…the worst grade among the bunch last week was a 91.

Beth, second from the left,( mine, of course,) blew a question on her last French test.

All four already have college credits, and all four are in the HISD Magnet program for Advance and Accelerated Learning.

Left to right, you have Sarah, who will either be a Doctor, (GP) or a neonatal ICU nurse. Beth, Astronaut and Reptile Biologist, Savannah, Criminologist and soon to be enrolled in the HPD CSI school, and Laura, Thespian, writer, and poet, who has several commercials under her belt, both in front of the camera and behind it as a script writer, along with a small book of her poems, published.

Oh, and last year, they were undefeated HISD Volleyball District Champs, this year, they are one slot out of first place.

Not to bad for a bunch of brains…

Saw the reports from the swamp briefly, but didn't see any Ed's swimming...

Forecast looks like snow...

May ride the ADK on saturday...

Any leaves left Tree?

LC

There were some last time I worked, but that was two weeks ago.  Wish I was going to be up there - great chance to meet!   I believe I'll be taking some family members for a ride on Sunday - after the wedding festivities are over.  Which train are you riding?

T -

Riding the Utica train with a big 300+ group from several NRHS chapters from Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse. Hop on Amtrak to get to Utica then transfer to the ADK.

LC

Take this along - you'll have a leg up on the narrator once you get to Otter Lake.

Saturday is pretty well out for me - but not completely.  Depends on what the family decides in terms of riding the train vs other plans for the day.  Sunday has been the goal, though.

If I am there, I won't be in "uniform," but may well have my railroad radio on my hip.  At 6'5", I'll be hard to miss.  Might be hard to hook up, though, as the Otter Lake train gets back just in time for the Utica train to leave.  (You might check with the ticket office to see if I'm in the area.)  In fact, we usually cancel our Form D from the train (vs the phone at the station) so the Utica train can get their paper.

Enjoy your trip!  With 300+ on the train, you'll undoubted have both F's, plus the Geep.

T -

Well I won't be in "uniform" either. May wear my NS hat. I hit about 6'3" or so and I'll be with a small group...

Why not?

Kids tend to follow your lead, even if they pretent not to.

Expect a lot from them, and if they are eager to please, and you encourage them, you get good results.

Set the bar low, and all you get is mediocrity, or worse, apathy.

Even if they dont achieve all their goals, imagine the skills and self assurance they will and already possess...and trust me, all of them were raised with the idea that just because they are "girls" dosen't mean they are any less qualified that a man to do or be just about anything they want.

They are not perfect kids by any means…being a honor rolls student is not a pre requisite to being on the team, but as the coach said, if you are already an honor roll student, then keeping that up is a requirement to play on her team…excellent incentive if you think about it.

All four girls come from working class families…a concrete contractor, a railroader, a Sheriffs Deputy and a Data and Communications technician, otherwise known as a cable guy!

Elizabeth was picked as a Student Ambassador for the People to People program last year; her group went to the United Kingdom as representatives of the Houston Independent School District.

One of the requirements was they had to earn at least ½ of the total cost of the trip…you aint seen such well cared for lawns and so many washed and waxed cars in one subdivision in your life!

Laura got her “big break” when her mom sent in a tape for an audition for a local supermarket chains advertisement program, they wanted a few kids for background work on a TV add, but ended up shooting the commercial around her instead.

The producer liked her enough to hire her for other local TV work, introduced her to a group of “artsy” folks at Rice University, and the rest she did on her own, a very head strong young lady.

Seriously, high schools are recruiting these girls; we get a letter every week from several schools wanting Beth to attend their school next year, as do the other three.

Point is, if you trust your kids, and then give them the tools to accomplish their goals, encourage them and provide supervision from the sidelines a little, well, who says she can’t live on Mars?

Laugh [(-D] I thought you knew that!  We talked about it at the get together, but maybe you weren't present when we did.  I think there may be two of them.  I know at first blush - I was thinking cat with no feet, but then remembered the snakes.  Now I want to know how Ed knows it is fast up a tree and how he got the snake back?  Hmmm?

This is almost better than breakfast - but not coffee - one big one please - black with one cream to cut the evil spirits in it.

Good Friday morning to all!  It's nice and chilly here this morning.  Current temp is
around 44 degrees, going to get down in the 30s tonight, after a high in the mid
50s.

Mookie, coffee is ready, and here is a big cup of coffee for you, with the one cream
cutting the evil spirits.  And how about a chocolate covered doughnut to go with it?

Yep, we have doughnuts for this morning.  Whatever kind you want, I've got it this
morning.  Also have some bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, and biscuits, sausage
gravy, and hash browns.

Ed, I know you and Aimee are very, very proud of Beth, as well as your other daughters.
Looks like you two are doing a very good job with your girls!  Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]

Good morning, all!  TGIF!  Should be a nice day here today, then tomorrow it goes to **** in a handbasket.

Mook, I don't remember that subject coming up in the conversation, but then it could be that I was distracted by another topic on my end of the table, or maybe it's just my CRS disease kicking in...

Oh, and thanks for the PM ping, Joanie's hanging in there- surgery is scheduled for next Thursday, and she can't wait to get it over with.  She's been gimping around lately with a borrowed cane, and would love to return it to its rightful owner.  The last couple of days she's been fighting off a cold as well, hope it doesn't get any worse and postpone the surgery.

Jay: Great Pictures! Thanks for sharing. I really need to get out NE one of these autumns...

Ed: Congrats on having such a talented daughter. Kind of makes me wish that I hadn't been one of those mediocre or perhaps even apathetic teens you spoke of when I was in school. Sigh...hindsight is 20/20 I suppose, and this just means that I can only get better, right?

Brian: Hope Joanie does well with everything. I'll keep her in my prayers.

Well, the Colorado weather folks are saying that today should be nice, but tomorrow and Sunday could be a little nasty. That's a bit of a shame, too. Not only was I planning to get out and do a bit of railfanning, we've also got our company picnic on Sunday up at one of the Corn Mazes up north a bit. Not necessarily my thing, but I was hoping to get some good shots of the kids playing in the maze, and with the animals, etc. for the company newsletter that I write. Oh well...if it's just overcast, that's better for portraits anyways. I guess time will tell all...

Anyways, I must be about my tasks. Hope you all have a great day, and a great weekend!

TTFN!

Gonna be that here today.  Just got a call from this evening's bride - the outdoor picture session before the ceremony has been moved inside at the church.  Central New York has flood warnings....

But, everybody from our side of the family that had to travel is here, I'm pretty sure (a couple of them were flying standby and got bumped to later flights - arriving after I went to bed).   Mom is staying here for a week after the wedding, to visit friends an relatives, etc.  I get to chauffeur.

Son and DIL spent the night here, so I had my bed to myself (while I'm running the kennel here the three mini-dachsunds are burrowing into my bed).  The daughter's Dalmatian is camped out in my recliner - more to avoid the little dogs than anything else.  He is a tad confused - daughter moving out of her apartment, he comes up here (at least he knows this house), and when he goes back, it'll be into new digs at the newlyweds house.  In case you're counting, that's five dogs in the house this week...  Son & DIL just bought a new house in MD (she was transferred east), but they aren't ready to move in yet.

So, the ceremony is all rehearsed, the players are in place, and with any luck, chaos will be kept to a minimum, tonight, and all next week (5 dogs plus Mom..)

See ya on the flip side...
