Mudchicken, I HOPE you meant 65.8 degrees: otherwise, everyone in
Denver would have burned up today!![:O][}:)]

Here at home tonight for supper, we each had: a THIN sliced ribeye
grilled on the George Foreman Champ grill, with sliced grilled onions
and had corn on the cob.

How does breakfast sound for supper tonight? Think that's what
we'll have in the diner: sometimes you just decide to have breakfast
food twice in one day: breakfast and supper.

Chocolate covered donuts and "long johns" (cream and jelly filled) from LeMars just for Tom!

Well, he said chocolate - he probably meant hot chocolate, but hey - chocolate is chocolate!

I can't believe all the icky weather around us. We are actually "bear" able this morning - it will be in the 30's and while probably cloudy, at least it is "you can wear your coat unzipped" weather. As long as you are only going from the car to the house or work.

Tree: They had an ugly fire in Omaha a few years ago - an old warehouse building that was converted into apartments and street floor businesses. In fact they have had quite a few of those fires, but this one was in January when the weather is truly horrible. The pictures showed a lot of ice hanging on the front of the building for weeks. They had trouble getting it out and just had to pour more water on it - which in turn messed up the sidewalks, streets and of course, the property itself and all that around it. Truly incredible pictures.

Tuna casserole, salmon salad, Cream of potato soup and milk duds......mmmm good menu! Mouse for dessert.....

tv dinners tonight: LM will have turkey and dressing, I'll have fried chicken.

slightly warmer temps.tomorrow.

Yeah Larry,it is hard to fight a fire with'frozen water' from the
hoseline. Those 'ice'droplets don't put out tooo many flames.[:D]

Interesting story actually.

As I heard it: Homeowner apparently stopped by to stoke wood stove. Smelled LP gas but did not do anything about it. Don't remember what time that supposedly occured.

About 2 a.m. a fire department in another township was dispatched for a "glow in the sky." Upon determining it was not in that district, the next most logical (at the moment) fire department was dispatched. They soon discovered it was not their area either, and we were finally dispatched. On our now very belated arrival we discovered a blazing hole in the ground. We dumped several thousand gallons on the fire, determined there was nothing left to save, and headed home to thaw out. I was running the pumper. Most of my gauges froze. Valves on several trucks froze. We managed to get out of it without damaging anything. It was estimated that the temperature was 50 below at the time.

Despite the occasional dubbing of volunteers as "cellar savers," at this incident we weren't even able to do that. The house had wooden basement walls (as opposed to masonry), not very common in this area. Those burned as well, meaning we couldn't even save the cellar...

Nothing should burn or move at those temps! Did you have to use chemicals to put it out or just let it heat up the area? We had a big warehouse fire when it was a ways below zero - started in a paper container storage area! What a mess!

Tree - it is going to be close to 30 today, but with a south wind - it feels worse than it did when it never got above zero! At least then we had no wind.

Warmer weather on the way. Embarrass MN was -50. I'd be red, too!

Into the 30's the rest of the week, so hold on.

Chili was great. Homemade bread - selling point only - it was bakery....

Have covered mucho territory (that's much for Rio Linda - and no I don't listen to him!)
this morning. Going to get to operate a scanner this afternoon. Hmmmm.....now about all those pictures I can't send.....hmmmmm.....maybe...?

Mookie, thank you for getting things started here. Managed to totally
wake up this morning before 8. Thanks for the chili and home made
bread. Don't have a bread machine here at home. And real butter
sounds gooood.

Think our temp is 8 degrees now. Heard on the tv that it will be 9 degrees
by 9:00. Still colder than a well digger's behind, though.

^^ I'm back...crumbs all over the place. Looks like the pie was a big hit!

Well, so far, I have had 3 holidays and January isn't but just half over. 2 snow days and MLK. I will have to work extra hard to get back to whatever "normal" is.

Haven't been train watching lately, so getting a little irritated between the ears. Have heard a mess of them during the night and Amtrak was 15 min early this morning. What a nice sound at 5 am, when there are few other sounds to mess it up.

Weather to warm up a little, so maybe....Millie and I can sneak out on Sat while the Driver is at work and....maybe have a little get-together trackside.

Skipping breakfast - ate at home, but will have some chili and homemade bread for lunch. All the items will be ready when CW comes in. Warmin' up the real butter for the bread....and lots of milk to go with it! Ah................

What flavor pie does Matt want? He names it: he gets it! Gee,
I do wonder where he learned that. Could it be he learned it
from his Daddy?

Hmmm, did everyone get today off for MLKJr.'s birthday? Must have,
since no one has been in the diner. But everything is all set out, and
whenever anyone comes in, they can serve themselves from the
warming breakfast bar.

Well, here I am, finally in the diner. Breakfast this morning will be
plenty of hot food to eat and warm us all up. Bicuits, gravy, bacon,
canadian bacon, scrambled eggs, etc.

Also have plenty of hot soups: tomato, chicken noodle, beef
vegetable, chili, beef stew, etc. Think we all need some good
hot food to warm everyone up!
