We just finished supper: butterfly shrimp. Haven't had that for a loooong
time; sure was good. Will have to get some and serve it in the diner one
day soon.

Actually, the recipe for the "5 alarm chili"is mine.[:)]
I just don't do her 'dumplin's'[:p]

Well, this is one of those sloooow mornings getting into the diner.
Sorry about that. Breakfast will be: turkey bacon, sausage, pancakesw/
syrup, scrambled eggs, toast, biscuits and gravy. If you've already had
breakfast, and you're ready for an early lunch, there's hamburgers, fries,
meatloaf, green beans, mashed potatoes, and still have soup, stew and
chili left. all still good, and not spoiled.

Supper will be: any of the above you might want, plus chicken & dumplings,
pizza, lasagna, spaghetti.

Everyone have a good day, and please be careful out there doing whatever
errands you have to do, and stay safe.

Tom, how about a quesadia pizza? Does that sound good to ya!

And I think I'll fix myself four slices of turkey bacon, and make a
bacon sandwich on toast.

Some of you missed the point (literally).
QUOTE: Rule of thumb - 1" of snow for every .1 inch of water.

Note the point in front of the one inch of water. Said another way, that's 10 inches of snow per inch of rain. Probably should have written it as 0.1 inch..

Michael - Having worked in weather in the AF, as well as being an avid weather buff for most of my years, I know the moisture can vary widely. The stuff in my driveway right now is too heavy to blow out with the blower (which is why it's still in the driveway). That's why I referred to the number as a rule of thumb. Gives one a point of reference...

Larry, Joe, Tom,

All, and none, of the above. The water content varies depending on the conditions during snow fall (particularly air temperature and relative humidity, and wind speed somewhat). Consider the difference between wet, packing (snowball) snow and powdery fluff that skiers crave. Liquid water content varies from 0.1% to 8% of the snow mass.

Michael

OK. But what about the Mexican food?

We are currently getting POURING rain. If this keeps up, we may need all
you guys to bring sandbags down here. They have blocked off River Road:
while Metropolitan Sewer District was putting up Flood Walls (gates),
they had to start putting up the ROAD CLOSED signs. All the restaurants
along the river and River Road are closed until the water goes down. I may
have to learn how to swim very quickly!!

Rain, rain, rain here today. And, it's supposed to continue through Monday. We've had 36 inches in my backyard rain gauge so far this rain year (which in central coastal CA, starts in October).

Sure wish it was snow....

Rule of thumb - 1" of snow for every .1 inch of water. Please note the picture from Fulton, NY that I posted earlier in the thread. Be careful what you wish for....

Larry,

In the seven years I've lived here, we've had snow twice at our home. Both times it was only about 3 mm.

I did see that picture (very cool! (no pun intended of course))...it's what Mammoth Lakes, Truckee, etc. look like now.

Turns out we set a record for most rain in a year for our Kentuckiana
area last year. We are only seven days into 2005, and looks to me like
we'll be on our way to break the record for January!

Espeefoamer, which of the supper menu do you want? Have plenty
of it all.

I escaped!!!!!!!

They put me in a very small duplex, locked the doors and windows and heaped snow all around it for 2 days! I think we had about 9 and poor Willie2 in Omaha had 14. But I tunneled out and escaped!

So now I am reviewing my winter weather plan - bring in an extra supply of food, some clothes and don't go back to that duplex when it snows. Just stay here in the office - the building has showers, microwaves, full kitchen sans stove, entertainment and I can sleep at my desk or on the couch in the lounge! Did I neglect to tell you that the microwave at home went out right as the snow started to get bad! It was awful......I had to remember how to use a stove!

Fortunately pizza is delivered in bad weather, too!

I am so glad to be free, even with my desk now overflowing with work and mail. I am so happy!

Our 8 to 12 inches in this area made the front page headline and lead stories in the Janesville (WI) Gazette. If they were to look at this paper the good folks of Mammoth Lakes would be laughing, or crying if the were a "displaced" Angeleno.

Larry,

Thanks for "digging" up that snow story. I've seen it told from the perspective of an Angeleno (i.e. someone from LA) who has moved to Mammoth Lakes CA in the Sierra Nevada (where I do my snow ecology research, and where they now have nine feet of the white gold...). Too true for many Angelenos who move there.

Thanks again,
Michael
