As usual my trip to Cincinnati had more to do with family things. Stuff like supporting the local economy with trips to the mall and food service establishments, visiting with family, exchanging some gifts, playing with the granddaughter, assisting with some house projects, etc. The really important area of looking for passing trains is relegated to the chance of a passing glance while heading in and out of town.

THIS WILL CHANGE!!! On the next visit, the Trains Cincinnati trackside edition will in hand, the camera will be loaded and at least ONE full day will be scheduled.

Promise.

Back to the colid northland.

Hey Joe, thanks for doing breakfast this morning[C=:-)]
As for sending a cake to Wisconsin, why don't we make
some cheesecakes and send that way? We could do a chocolate
cheesecake, cherry cheesecake, along with a plain cheese cake.

Lunch and supper will be more five alarm chili.

Anybody catch that gorgeous Northern in the Rose Parade? I wasn't watching the parade, just happened to be running through the channels when it was being shown on H&G. I was also able to get a look on Univision after it made the corner. Someone was obviously having fun with the real horn, although I might have preferred to see something other than "Honda" on the tender....

On top of that, it looked to be at least life size....

Joe:

Jay's in Cincy right now. You might slide over to I-75 and make a meet with the cheesepicker on the return trip north. I'm in the burbs of Denver right now.

The PRR/GTW/I&O line along the river is now gone. Disappeared about the same time Great American Ballpark & Paul Brown Stadiums were built and Cinergy came down.

Seen the re-lit CUT fascade yet along I-75 or Spring Grove Avenue?

MC

Take out ribs from the Montgomery Inn for supper last night. Daughter in law Amy is preparing a pork tenderloin speciality for us and her parents tonight.

There was a good 6 inches of snow on the ground when we came in Thursday night, but 60 degrees and a light drizzle has about done it in. Good thing. The kids live in Norwood in a neighborhood popular for students. If the snow didn't melt, it would probably be easier to park in Indiana and walk to the campus.

Saw a piece about CUT on TV last night. Might try to get over and give it a look this evening, depending on when the company leaves. If so will take the Rebel and see if I can capture a decent night shot.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Yeah, I know: I'm late getting in the diner.

For dinner and supper, we'll have boiled cabbage, and cole
slaw for those who don't like boiled cabbage, black-eyed peas,
and corned beef. For anyone who doesn't want that, we have
PLENTY of chili left. And that's always better on the
second, third, etc. day after you make it.[:p][8D]

Got a big pot of five alarm chili on the stove here at home for our
supper. I made sure it would be hot: has a whole jar of Pace
Hot picanti sauce, a whole jar of Louisiana Hot sauce, one can
Red Gold diced tomatoes hot sauce, one can Red Gold diced
tomatoes Italian, a whole can of chili powder, plus half a jar of
chili powder. Tasted it, and it's HOT!!

It would be a strange sensation to me, celebrating the coming of the new year shortly after the first day of summer!

We're about as close as one could reasonably expect to come to that up here, though, with temperatures in the 50s today. If it dries up out there, I'll convert my bag back into a back-pack and bike to work!

Yep--this week we're working on both of the holidays. Business seems brisk, at a time when nearly everything normally slows down.

When I get off work at 2300, if the skies are clear enough, I'll literally be able to see into 2005 (the Eastern time zone isn't that far away)! I'll either bike or drive home, where we'll pop open the sparkling grape juice (nothing stronger, I promise!) and wish everyone a joyous, healthy, and prosperous new year!
