Actually, it wasn't along that line. It was in Fort Washington, and it looks like R5 would have taken me closer to it. But R8 is closer to Sarah's neck of the woods, for her to come meet me at 30th Street.

By the way, I really did like 30th Street, both inside and out. Much better than the other two big stations I saw on this trip (DC and Chicago)!

Mookie said I could use this word in the Diner: Sarah and I are soul-mates!

The first thing we did after Sarah found me at 30th Street was look into each other's eyes. And we spent most of the rest of the visit keeping an eye or two on each other.
The second thing we did was take a short ride on SEPTA's R5 route before taking the R8 toward my hotel room.

We didn't have too much train-watching luck at Sarah's usual haunts on Tuesday, much to her chagrin (chin up, Kiddo--that could happen anywhere). However, we saw a fox pretty close up, and a deer crossed our street a little too close for comfort. And I was able to do a little mentoring on gondola construction and signal aspects (including the significance of the dummy mast).

Sarah can tell you about the quad/scanner episode. That may have been the high point of the trip to Abrams Yard and other locales on Tuesday.

We went to a number of good places to eat; her mother joined us for dinner Monday night, after which she gave us a tour of some prime Philadelphia real estate (sorry, Joyce--if you want me to move there I'd probably be in another neighborhood!).

Wednesday we managed to catch a NS in the distance before Sarah took me back to the R8.

So quite a bit was seen, a good deal of fun was had, much was discussed, tears were shed before parting--as I said, a pair of soul-mates were discovered (much to my wife's chagrin). Chalk up another victory for the Forum!

Next time, maybe we'll see some of the other places around Philadelphia. Sarah is on her own to see the Zoo that looks like an interlocking tower. Because instead of taking her to the Zoo, I'll take her to...Paoli! (little inside joke there)

Carl,

I'm glad you took the time to post; I've been very curious about the trip. It sounds like a good time. Did you like 30th Street Station? I have to say, as a former regular commuter on the R8 Chestnut Hill West, that I'm curious where along the line you were in a hotel.

That first pic may be what Dan really looks like. But according to the
second pic, he must be Tom Cruise's identical twin!!

Since it seems to be so cool EVERYWHERE today, have a big pot
of chilli for everyone. And if you don't want chilli, I also made a big
pot of spaghetti for tonight. With the spaghetti, you'll also get two
slices of garlic Texas Toast.

Oh THAT Dan! Wasn't he seen around Louisville as I kid? In recent years I thought I had seen pictures of him with a really hot babe, but I think she dumped him. Probably spending too much on the forum.

That chili sounds good back here in Wisconsin, too, it's only supposed to hit 45 degrees with the wind and the rain forcast for today.

Hmmmm, Springtime in the rockies: isn't that a song title? And no,
I'm not thinking of "Rocky Mountain High". Mudchicken, here's a
big ole western omelet for you. I'll personally send you a big thermos
of nice, hot chilli to warm your feathers up today, since you'll only
have a high of 50 degrees today.

Joe, thank you so much for helping me with the omelets.

I had Marty all pictured in my mind and when I got his picture, I knew exactly who it was! (and for the ladies on the forum, he is great eye candy!) I told Houston Ed "yes! That's Marty!" (like he didn't know!)

I have a few pictures that the gentlemen of the forum have sent me and, you know....
You are a good looking group of forum posters! [:I]

Good morning everybody. After the ice cream last night, slept all through
the night: didn't wake up once until a little after five this morning.

Your "special" breakfast, suggested by the Mutt, will be: western omelets
or pancakes and whatever topping you want on them, and turkey bacon or
sausage. Joe, you do the omelets so well, would you like to help me with
them this morning? You don't have to, and I'll understand if you've got
something else planned to do this morning.

Tina, do you have all your packing done? Need any help?

Hey Marty, welcome back. Long time no see. Since it's kind of warm
tonight, how about some ice cream? Have all the usual flavors: choco-
late, vanilla, neopolitan, and Snicker's Ice cream. Thought maybe if we
had something cool, it would help us sleep tonight.

Marty, I've been to Texas, but haven't had the privilege of meeting Ed. Both
CW and I would love to meet several of you, our forum family members.
Maybe someday we can work out a way to meet some of you guys and gals.

CW and I understand that you've been very busy; think she has some leftover
birthday cake in the freezer.

Unfortunately,I know how some of them work.
