A while back the inscription on the metal bands used by the U.S. Department of the Interior to tag migratory birds has been changed. The bands used to bear the address of the Washington Biological Survey, abbreviated "Wash. Biol. Surv." until the agency received the following letter from a camper:

"Dear Sirs:

While camping last week I shot one of your birds. I think it was a crow. I followed the cooking instructions on the leg tag and I want to tell you it was horrible."

The bands are now marked "Fish and Wildlife Service".

FYI We serve only USDA approved meats in the Diner. My head cook Cherokee Women wouldn't have it any other way, and neither would I.

Won't have a chance go run up to Folkston, either [:(!].

And I'm at work today - on alternate Mondays I'm off, I don't get up early (usually) and may not go on-line until evening...

As for next week - I'll be in, but I'll also be in the Jacksonville area, so it'll all probably be evening visits, then, too. Wish I was going to have some time for train watching, but they've got our schedule pretty full.

Oh no CW don't quit cooking [:O]. Being a left coaster I don't make it in here as early as most. I fear without your excelent cooking the diner would not be the same. I'll take a double order of everything to make up for the lack of business. How's that?

I'm sorry, CW--I'll go find Sarah and we'll both come by. A tall glass of OJ would probably be just right for me.

Gee, sure is awfully nice to fix breakfast for everyone, and no one
comes in to eat any of it.
Guess I'll just have to quit cooking!!

Joe, thank you for getting the juice and coffee going for me. Larry,
the weekends seem to have everybody dragging on Monday
mornings.

Breakfast this morning will be: cinnamon rolls w/vanilla icing,
turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits & gravy, and
cereal.

Regular lunch menu today; lunch special will be soup & sandwiches.

It's Monday - if everyone's weekend was as busy as mine, it's no wonder they aren't up and about yet...

You'd think that after visiting Sarah on her home ground that I'd be able to coordinate my visits to the diner with her. But no...I was out along our main line--visited Galt, Rochelle, Elburn, and LaFox before coming home. Couldn't get close to the new bridge(s) at Galt (they're done, though), but did see a few trains at Rochelle before getting out of the cool breeze. Elburn and LaFox were visited to see how the Metra expansion project was coming along. Pat and I will probably go to LaFox more often--a quilt shop was discovered right next to the main line in the "historic" section of town.

Way to go, Sarah! I'm very proud of you. I can't even HIT a ball with the
bat, and I am absolutely terrible at throwing the ball. Never could catch
too good, either.

I'm glad you enjoyed the oyster stew. That was a staple of my Daddy's.
He absolutely loved oyster stew (with the oyster crackers), and potato
soup. Still miss him, after 30 years; but I know he's with me everyday.

Yes I think sitting out by the patio to watch trrains and eat some of that delicious oyster stew w/ cornbread (bread is my favorit food), and the grilled chesse on 100 percent whole wheat bread. MMMMMMMM good eats.
Ok it rained a bit at my softball game today. :( And my team lost to the same team we played the begining of the season, in which we lost to. However, we did play a good game given the fact that we were short handed. I've so far in the season have never stuck out. I got one out as catcher during the game today.

Okay, the soups are on simmering, and the sandwiches are all made
up and ready to go. Such a nice day, even if on the cool side, think we
CAN sit out on the patio at the picnic tables and watch the trains go by.

OH thankx soo very much CW for the oh so wonderful brunch this morning. :) I had toast, sausage, cantolpoe, juice and cream of wheat. I love Cream of Wheat, I usually make it out of grits. !!! I can't wait to have some of that delicious oyster stew and what not. I think I'll have that after my softball game today. It's a nice day here in the greater Philadelphia area. It's very hott here!!!! So, I should be burning up on the feild today. Not to mention my softball game is at the Norristown State Hospital. That will be very interesting.
Well, for now it's bye bye :)

Joe thank you for starting the coffee and juice. Sunday brunch will be:

turkey bacon, sausage patties and links, biscuits and gravy, cantaloupe
slices, sliced tomatoes, oatmeal, toast, grits and cream of wheat. Heck,
if you want, take a little of everything on the breakfast bar this morning.

Later on today, since just about everyone is on the "cool" side today, we
will have: potato soup, clam chowder, oyster stew, beef vegetable soup,
with your choice of cornbread, oyster crackers, or saltines. And of course,
with your soup, you can have the following sandwiches: grilled cheese,
PB&J, tuna fish, roast beef, hamburgers, hotdogs, turkey, ham, bologna.
