I understand. It is just a matter of personal tastes and in the whole scheme of things, not an area high on my list.

I still have to cringe a little when "How much is that doggy in the window" comes to mind.

I'm with you Modelcar. Sure, some of it may have been "cheesy" happy, but it was still happy. Compared to my contemporaries, who listen to stuff that generally praises murder, rape, and generally all things dark, a little happy 50's music is sometimes a nice effort at trying to relive the halcyon days of America, and Americana.

Shall we all jump on Rt. 66 while listening to our AM radio, read some Burma Shave signs, and try to find the best tourist trap on that fabled stretch of road?

Years ago, I played around a bit {actually working}, on old 66 in Arizona....Like up through the old wild town of Oatman....{Automotive test work}....What a route...!

I think I've driven most of the route of Route 66, although by the 70's, when I was on the road, a lot of it was Interstates. There were parts, though, that were either still the old two lane, or used the two lane for one direction of the interstate. It is, indeed, and interesting ride.

Even though we've found out they might not have been as innocent as we thought, a trip back to the innocent 50's, and early 60's can be refreshing - anybody for a yellow polka dot bikini?

Tree.....Yes the era I was mentioning of being out on 66 was 69 -71....and specifically from Kingman west....down through "perfume pass" and then when down on desert floor....swing off to the right and on the "old" 66 route and up over the pass...{can't remember the name}, and through Oatman and Goldroad, and on down to Topock...and with trucks...! That was some route straight down off cliffs along the side if a mistake would have been made and dry and super hot....{yea I know it's dry heat}, but it was fun......

Hey everyone! Been quite a day here. It's been very warm, and for tomorrow to be
the first whole day of autumn, we're to have a high of 89, 90 degrees. I'm still hoping
for cooler weather!! Guess maybe we'll start seeing cooler daytime
temps in the next couple of weeks, hopefully.

There's a big, huge pot of popcorn ready, if anyone would like some.

Hmmm - popcorn all over the floor in here!

CW - it was 103 here Wed and 73 on Thurs. So cooler coming.

Must explain a remark I made - armed with a heavy back scratcher and a bottle of shampoo - was not to take a bath as alluded to by Joe..... You can use the back scratcher as a weapon and the shampoo is good to squirt - preferable to the eyes.

And - have the driver stand behind you in case this doesn't work.

This is going nowhere, so will just slink off and find some coffee...

Of course. Curiously, the "itsy bitsy, teeny weeny" of the day would be considered modest by today's standards...

Modelcar - I drove 66 in "stages" while assigned to Tinker AFB in OKC, all the way from Chicago to at least San Berdoo.

Tree...Then you may remember Kingman, Az. That was our base of operations while running automotive tests in the area....Rt. 66 was still the main highway through there at that time as only parts of the interstate were completed in that general area....and leaving Kingman heading west...{southwest}, and after reaching down on the desert floor..."old" 66 moved off to the right to wind up over a pass and down the other side and on down to Topock and on to Needles, etc...It's that stretch we were running tests on and to say the least...That was some road...{what was left of it}....But Oatman is sort of cult famous even yet today...Probably can see data right here on the "net" of it.....

I was mainly passing through, having come across the desert (I went via Phoenix and San Diego on the way to CA from OKC) and looking forward to a good night's sleep in Flagstaff.

I'll pass on the catfish, too, but that double BLT sounds good! Make my Dew a diet version, and we're set for the day!

Speaking of Route 66, there was an article in the Tribune a couple of weeks ago about a plan to pave portions of the old road (oftentimes not in use any more) for use as a trail, with the eventual goal of making a "66" bike trail from Chicago to St. Louis!

Oh, to take about 20 pounds off the weight and 20 years off the age!

My younger daughter, who was very interested in pre-tailfin automobiles, got the thrill of her young life when we allowed her to get some of her driver-ed road time on Old 66 between Joliet and Bloomington. She had the road to herself pretty much, and we didn't do too badly compared to traffic on the often parallel I-55. We also hugged the former GM&O pretty closely.

I'll pass on the catfi***oo.... too many bones in it for my liking. I'll be working untill 10 tonight, I'll take a fish fry after that, though.

Sadly, I'm way to young to remember anything that early (born in '79) but when I was 10 or 11, I'd be helping my dad do the baling on the farm with a 1966 vintage John Deere 3020 gas or 4020 diesel (many people call the 4020 an icon nowadays). That was the core of my dad's fleet- three "New Generation" tractors, he never had any "Poppin' Johnnies" (though I like to go to the antique shows to see them). I also have a friend who owns a 1924 Case threshing machine-it's still operable, and its getting restored, little by little, each year.
