Boy, did I have a senior moment today--and not the way one usually thinks of one!

There are nine employees who work our hump any given shift: three car retarder operators, one hump conductor, one general yardmaster, and four remote control operators (who pull the pins and do whatever else needs to be done with locomotives). Well, I added up years of service--and I had five years' more seniority than all eight of the others put together!

Speaking of newbies--welcome, Chris! I was about 14 when I discovered that there were a bunch of other people who shared my interests.

Carl I think I've said this to you millions of times before. With all that seniority you have you should be basiclly running Proviso, Ya know??/

Chris [#welcome] to the diner, I hope you enjoy your time here, I'm more than certain that you will.

Well I was blessed with a nice treat today. I went to the mall at Willow Grove which is right outside of Philly. I was leaving the mall at around 9pm and then from the top of the hill in Willow Grove I got to see and hear some really awsome fireworks! It was awsome I almost thought it was the New Year! I wish. Though I couldn't figure out why would there be fireworks in the heart of Willow Grove on a "nothing" night for no reason. So, my mission tomorrow or I should say later on today is to figure that one out.

Thank you Joe, for putting everything out on the breakfast bar, and making the juice
and coffee!! Hope you, Mama and Matt have a good Sunday.

Supper tonight: baked ham, potato salad, deviled eggs, baked beans.

Dessert: apple pie, peach pie, blackberry cobbler w/ice cream, and chocolate
cake with chocolate frosting. And if Jim comes in to check on us, there's always
a white cake with white frosting, always on hand for him.

Good morning everyone! We're still getting a little bit of rain here. Down to
sprinkles and drizzle.

Breakfast this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy, oatmeal
and toast.

Lunch: rest of the ham, potato salad, deviled eggs from yesterday.

Haven't decided on supper menu for tonight yet. Will get back to you
on that one.

I see Jay is taking liberties with the Mookie....(computer mouse...hmmph...)

CW is talking about all the rest of you. (Old and Gray).

New youngster in the diner - Welcome and just remember one thing - Don't Rock on the Cat's Tail!

Willy2 is about your age and out there somewhere, also doing homework! Will have to drag him in here.

Yawner weekend in the land of no weather. Coffee tastes good this morning. Nice to be back to "normal" after a night of paw wringing Friday nite over the hurricane. Still looking for a person from Lake Charles. [sigh]

And to my "older" brother Carl.....HA HA HA!

2" of rain in central Indiana since Sunday morning most no doubt related to Rita. It was just light and steady most of Sunday.

Well tip top o' tha marnin' to ye all,

Spent the weekend in RMNP. Fall color was the best I have ever seen! Did a modest 9 mile hike with a little bit of elevation gain here and there.

Started on the Bierstadt Lake Trail, went to Bierstadt Lake, hiked over to Bear Lake, then onto Nymph Lake, Dream Lake and Emerald Lake. Hiked back to Dream Lake and caught the trail up to Lake Haiyaha, and thence back to Bear Lake where I caught a shuttle bus back to the Bierstadt Lake Trailhead.

Temps were in the 40's to 50's and very few clouds (depsite a 50% chance of rain). We did have a couple wind gusts in the 50-60mph range(so sadly the color won't be around for long), but really a great day. I felt bad thinking about what a great day it was while Rita was busy soaking the south.

Should have gone over Trail Ridge Road and headed back down through Granby, Tabernash, Fraser and Winter Park to catch some action on the Moffat line, but didn't feel like dealing with mucho traffic on I-70 on a Sunday afternoon durning Elk Rut/ Fall Color season.

Should have a new sig picture sometime today if I get the time to process soem pics. Hope you all had a great weekend, too.

TTFN!

Finally--a good night's sleep!

Today will be the first day in three that I've been able to bike to work. I guess I can kiss 2500-miles-by-the-end-of-the-month goodbye (I might get to 2400 if I'm lucky).

Lunch sounds good, Cher! We'll be there!

I'd posted under the breakfast menu, that lunch today will be ham, potato
salad and deviled eggs from last night's supper leftovers.

And tonight's supper will be: beef stew w/cornbread, and fried apple pies
(half moon shaped pies).

Well gang, skipped lunch to edit pictures. I've updated my sig. photo, and posted a new gallery at:

www.pbase.com/copcarss/rm_color_05

Haven't gotten captions done yet, but should have them up tonight.

I know it's not rail related, but I was pretty happy with the results, so I had to share them in the diner here.

Hope autumn color is as nice as it moves down to lower elevations for all of you!

Hey Carl, does I-294 go by the yard where you work? My wife and I spent the weekend in the area around O'Hare, and I managed to get a few minutes of railfanning in by taking a walk down Mannheim from our motel and watch some action in the yard immediately south of the airport. I've got a few pictures, hope to put them up on rrpicturearchives.com tonight. Also drove past a huge yard on the way out of town (Proviso?). Another neat experience- standing in the parking lot of the Rosemont Target and watching the planes come in to O'Hare, couldn't be more than 200 feet above me. Got some more great pictures of that.

CW, I'll take some of that stew. Not too much though, ate too well over the weekend.
